Tesla Model 3 2019 problems
The Tesla Model 3 is a battery electric mid-size sedan with a fastback body style built by Tesla, Inc., introduced in 2017. The vehicle is marketed as being more affordable to more people than previous models made by Tesla. The Model 3 was the world's top selling plug-in electric car for three years, from 2018 to 2020, before the Tesla Model Y, a crossover SUV based on the Model 3 chassis, took the top spot. In June 2021, the Model 3 became the first electric car to pass global sales of 1 million.
An upgraded Model 3 with revamped interior and exterior styling was introduced in late 2023 for countries supplied by the Shanghai factory, and in early 2024 in North America and other countries supplied by the Fremont factory.
History
In an interview for Wired Science recorded during 2006, Elon Musk presented the Model 3 as likely being affordable by most people able to purchase new cars, aiming for a $30,000 price point. In 2008 the car was stated to be a family car. In 2017 Tesla added that the Standard Range version of the all-electric car would have an estimated EPA-rated range of 215 miles (346 km), a five-passenger seating capacity, front and rear trunks, and promised sports-car levels of acceleration performance. Tesla said it would have a 5-Star safety rating and have a drag coefficient of Cd=0.225. This is lower than the Tesla Model S drag coefficient of Cd=0.24, which, in 2014, was the lowest among the production cars of the time.
Within a week of unveiling the Model 3 in 2016, Tesla revealed they had taken 325,000 reservations for the car. These reservations represented potential sales of over US$14 billion. By August 2017, there were 455,000 net reservations.
Industry experts were dubious when, in May 2016, Tesla announced its decision to advance its 500,000-total-unit build plan (combined for Model S, Model X, and Model 3) to 2018, two years earlier than previously planned, in order to accelerate its target for Model 3 output. As predicted, there were "production bottlenecks" and "production hell". In May 2016, Tesla issued US$2 billion in new shares to the stock market to finance the plan.
The company plans for the Model 3 are part of Tesla's three-step strategy to start with a high-price vehicle and move progressively towards lower-cost vehicles, while the battery and electric drivetrain were improved and paid for through the sales of the Roadster, Model S, and Model X vehicles.
On April 18, 2018, Tesla updated its production target to 6,000 vehicles per week by the end of June 2018, an increase from its previous target of 5,000 vehicles per week which was previously promised at earlier dates. On July 1, 2018, Elon Musk announced that Tesla had met its production goal of 5,000 cars in a week.
On February 28, 2019, Tesla announced the availability of the highly anticipated Standard Range trim priced at $35,000 (equivalent to $41,710 in 2023). However, on April 12, 2019, Tesla announced that the Standard Range model would no longer be available for ordering online, but only over the phone or in stores. Autopilot, previously a $3,000 option, was included in all versions of the Model 3 except for the Standard Range, while each version's price only increased by $2,000. In February 2019, the Model 3 passed the Chevrolet Volt to become the all-time bestselling plug-in electric car in the U.S. Model 3 sales surpassed the Nissan Leaf in early 2020 to become the world's all-time top selling plug-in electric car.

Common Tesla Model 3 2019 problems
The Tesla Model 3, released in 2019, is generally considered a reliable electric vehicle, but like any car, it has some common problems that owners have reported.
One of the most common issues reported is related to the in-car electronics, specifically the infotainment system. Several owners have reported issues such as the screen going black while driving, requiring a reset to fix the problem.
Another issue that some 2019 Tesla Model 3 owners have reported is related to the EV battery. One owner reported that the car lost 40 miles of range while parked all day, which is a significant loss of range for an electric vehicle.
The steering and suspension system is another area where some owners have reported issues. One owner reported that the front suspension lateral link may be insufficiently torqued, which could lead to issues with the car's handling.
The brake system is another area where some owners have reported issues. One recall was issued for the brake calliper bolts, which may not be secured to the correct specification.
The user interface (UI) is another area where some owners have reported issues. One recall was issued for vehicles that display vehicle speed but not a unit of speed (i.e. mph or km/h).
The rear-view camera harness is another area where some owners have reported issues. One recall was issued for the rear-view camera harness, which may fail, causing no image in the centre display.
In addition to these specific issues, some owners have reported rattles, panel gaps, and stiff suspension, which can affect the overall driving experience of the car.
Overall, while the Tesla Model 3 is generally considered a reliable electric vehicle, it is not without its issues. Owners have reported problems with the in-car electronics, EV battery, steering and suspension system, brake system, user interface, and rear-view camera harness. However, many owners still enjoy driving and owning their Model 3s, and the car has received high marks for reliability in surveys.

LANE DEPARTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-08-20
- VIN: 5YJ3E1EB9KF
- Components: LANE DEPARTURE
- Summary: I see in today's news that the NHTSA is investigating Tesla's FSD due to accidents in poor visibility, but the articles I've read are not discussing another visibility issue that may actually be more widespread. I already reported concerns with Telsa's FSD in incident 11618812, but I forgot to mention another issue I believe is crucial to the success or failure of Tesla's FSD, and I am surprised to find that nobody is talking about this serious flaw. Because Tesla's FSD relies on camera video only, the vehicle is blind in the dark. I live in a rural area, and on some roads without streetlights or other vehicles nearby illuminating the areas around the vehicle, Tesla's FSD falsely assumes that the side and rear facing cameras are obstructed because they cannot see in the dark. This was also an issue when my son and I drove home through the night from South Carolina. When we hit North Carolina on [XXX] in the middle of the night between cities and no streetlights, traffic was sparse so there was nobody behind or to the sides of the vehicle. Every few minutes, FSD falsely warned us that the cameras were obstructed, and alerted us that FSD's capabilities were limited. One point of view is that there was nobody there so my car was clear, and FSD could assume that everything is okay and suppress the warning, but what if the driver of the other vehicle at night failed to have their lights on? And how will FSD ever know that the camera is obstructed, or is in pitch dark? Take an average of the low light across multiple cameras? Is that risky? In my opinion, Tesla's FSD cannot rely on video alone and either needs to use LIDAR, night vision, or 3D radar to see more accurately around the vehicle in poor visibility conditions. The answer to low light, bright low sun, fog, or dust is probably the same solution. But we were all promised FSD, so will Musk upgrade the hardware in our cars at Tesla's expense, or expect all of us to pay for the upgrade to get what we were all promised? UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-08
- VIN: 5YJ3E1EB9KF
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: I have been an owner and fan of Tesla’s FSD for 5 and 1/2 years. Even though Tesla has repeatedly missed Elon’s promised delivery dates, I’ve remained an advocate. I am a Sr. Enterprise Architect and have a Masters in Software Engineering. I know how difficult a problem like an AI-based FSD is to solve, so I’ve been cutting Elon some slack on his constant over-promising and under-delivering. My daughter goes to school over 800 miles from home, and I’ve used FSD to do over 90% of the driving taking her to and from school, and it’s done pretty darn well, but the latest two versions I’ve received over the last few weeks have been so bad, they are dangerous in my opinion. Issues like panic braking for no visible reason, and today my car made an unexpected lane change across two lanes, cutting off a rapidly moving truck in the fast lane, all requiring me to take control. I now have interventions every few minutes, sometimes only a few minutes from engagement. With Tesla’s focus on “Robotaxi Day,” I am concerned that the demo may be more smoke and mirrors, because the latest version of FSD on my car is nowhere near ready for prime time. Can Tesla fix this? I’m sure they can, but this software version was definitely rushed out too soon, probably because Elon put heavy pressure prior to their big Robotaxi event. My wife has a Model Y with FSD behaving the same way, so it is not isolated to just my car. If Robotaxi Day is a smash success, they are either running a hardware or software version my 2 cars do not have, or they demoed in a very controlled environment. But here’s another issue. We’ve all been promised a working FSD. If Tesla found that level 3 hardware cannot deliver, and if Elon has to eat crow and embrace LIDAR, for example, there will be a class action against Tesla from owners stuck with an FSD technology that is not safe and doesn’t deliver on Elon’s promises. I doubt Tesla will upgrade all of us to hardware that works. Then what? My FSD is v12.5.4.1.

- Summary: There is a common warning message on Tesla Model 3 and Y that states “Front Passenger Safety Restraint System Fault” I just received it on mine. Tesla service advised that the passenger airbag and safety system may not function in the event of a crash. I searched online and can see in forums that many people receive this warning. Tesla also confirmed that if someone receives this message while driving and then they get into an accident during that same drive, the airbag may not work. This is a HUGE safety issue, and Tesla should be held accountable.
SUSPENSION PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-09-04
- VIN: 5YJ3E1EA8KF
- Components: SUSPENSION
- Summary: The suspension front control arm and lower links were all bad and had to be replaced. One day, our car started making this terrible clunking sound, so we brought it in. They charged us $1,800 to replace the whole control arm/link system. I have seen that this is a common problem. I have heard that the issue is known by Tesla as a defect because they put in bad control arms in the early models of Tesla that are known to go bad. We were told that if we did not get them replaced, they could go out while driving and cause us to lose control of our vehicle.
AIR BAGS,SEAT BELTS PROBLEM

Can someone look into this since it appears to be defective from Tesla Sincerely
SEAT BELTS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-07-25
- VIN: 5YJ3E1EB7KF
- Components: SEAT BELTS
- Summary: The week of July 29, 2024, I received a report on my computer screen that the driver's side seat belt was malfunctioning. I checked and it moved freely--there was no restraint. I drove to Rocklin Tesla and they did a diagnostic test ($235) and found there was a low voltage circuit integrity issue. This problem was not from physical damage to the seat belt, but a problem during manufacturing. They required the left front row seat harness assembly be replaced. As the driver, I was at risk because if I was in an accident, my seat belt would fail to stop forward motion. Online Tesla forums explain this has been occurring, but Tesla does not have a recall. The problem was confirmed by the dealer. I was advised to send a report to NHTSA.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-08-28
- VIN: 5YJ3E1EB9KF
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: The component is a software update by Tesla, the change is in the climate control screen, the problem is that the recirculating air icon was large and easy to change status while driving but is now microscopic and not able to safely check status or touch to change the air recirculation. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,AIR BAGS,SEATS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-08-06
- VIN: 5YJ3E1EB8KF
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,AIR BAGS,SEATS
- Summary: Safety issue: Got a "Front Passenger Safety Restraint System Fault" (code RCM_a056) out of a sudden. Apparently, the passenger's occupied-seat sensor is not communicating with the system, leading to potential hazard in airbag deployment scenario. Upon reaching out to the Tesla Service Center, got a quote for $1600, which includes a replacement not only of the passenger's seat sensor, but there's also a need to replace the airbag - to maintain compatibility with the new sensor. Upon additional research, I've discovered that this is not merely wear and tear; some owners reported that this error appears on brand new cars. In short, Tesla is requiring customers to pay $1600 to cover a design failure that could result in a safety / injury. The company should be held liable to its errors, not customers.
LANE DEPARTURE,BACK OVER PREVENTION PROBLEM

- VIN: 5YJ3E1EA8KF
- Components: AIR BAGS,SEAT BELTS,SEATS
- Summary: I continuously receive a notification on my car that the there is a fault with the passenger restraint system and includes a red income with the airbag. I have found hundreds of Tesla drivers that have reported the same issue. Tesla is claiming that my airbag needs replaced as well as other safety components with the seat that need retrofitted in order for the airbag to work properly. They quoted me over $2.4k for the repair and are holding me responsible for all costs since the vehicle is out of warranty. They told me that the airbag may not work properly. This is a common problem among Tesla’s and should be assessed.

I've been the proud owner of a Tesla Model 3 for just over two months now, and I have to say, driving has never been more enjoyable. The car is incredibly easy to drive, with features like instant torque and smooth acceleration that make it an absolute pleasure to be behind the wheel. The regenerative braking is a particular highlight, as I rarely have to take my foot off the accelerator pedal. And let's not forget the luxurious interior - the sound system is simply amazing. Our family now has a mobile karaoke system for those long road trips. Overall, we're absolutely loving every aspect of this car, and we can't wait to discover even more features that we haven't used yet.

I'm glad to hear that you've been enjoying your Model 3 for the past three weeks! It sounds like you're having a lot of fun driving it, with great acceleration and handling. I'm also happy to hear that you find the touch screen easy to use and not distracting. It's interesting to consider why people might choose other EVs when the Model 3 offers such a great combination of affordability, range, and technology.

I received my Model 3 in March and after 5 months, I couldn't imagine going back to a non-electric vehicle. In my opinion, you need to be somewhat of a technical person to fully embrace this vehicle, but I think that's true for most new vehicles. The ride is excellent, and while the interior is a bit spartan, it's still very comfortable. As someone who is 6'3They recently updated the IOS APP and I am currently running the 2021.24.4 software version. I use TACC (Traffic Aware Cruise Control) almost all the time, but only use Autopilot on the Interstate when I visit my daughter. In my opinion, TACC is wonderful, but my girlfriend dislikes the way it accelerates and slows down (which is too slow for her). I explained that it is designed to maximize regenerative braking, and while she understands that, she doesn't like it! I tend to disengage the TACC when going through a turn from a stoplight as it can be a bit herky-jerky in that scenario. I hope that Version 10 of Autopilot, due out in late September, will be much better than the current version. Despite everything, I still think it's the best electric car on the road today for the money. Of course, if money was not an object, I would have myself a Plaid Model S!! :-) In March 2022, I have had the FSD Beta for about 3 months now, and it's pretty amazing. It can be scary at times (It IS A BETA), and you have to watch it all the time, BUT it's very useful, especially in heavy traffic. My biggest issue with it is phantom braking. Now with gas prices going up, the car is paying for itself. My monthly bill to fill the car up is about $10.00. In all of January, it cost me $24.31. Of course, I don't drive a lot of miles, only 4,000 a year, but I bet it would have cost more than that for gas! I have had no issues with it, and I still think it's one of the best cars out there. In March 2023, I have had the Model 3 for 4 years now, and I still LOVE my Model 3! We take it whenever we go on trips as my girlfriend loves to drive it now too. I only paid $5k for the FSD option, and I really thought that it would be fully available by now. If I had paid what they are asking now, $15k, I would be a bit miffed that it, The FSD, has not reached fruition, but the Beta is worth the $5k I paid. Let's face it, level 4 and 5 autonomy is VERY DIFFICULT to achieve.I drive from St Augustine Beach to Jacksonville once a month and I let the FSD do as much as it can. About 70% of the time, the FSD BETA is at a Level 3 autonomous car. Most of the time, it will do 98% of the trip without me intervening, including city driving but mostly I-95. I still love my Tesla!

The Model 3 is hands down the best car I have ever owned! It handles like a dream, has lightning-fast acceleration, and boasts a comfortable, well-made interior. I've been a proud owner for 10 months now and have experienced no significant issues. The fit and finish are excellent, and the electronics are simply out of this world! Plus, it's incredibly practical. Admittedly, it took me some time to adjust to the touch screen, but now it's second nature. While Apple play would be a nice addition, the available streaming in the car is more than sufficient. We even installed a charger at home with a 240-volt line, which only cost $1000 installed. And get this, it only costs me $50 a month in electricity charges, which is about a third of what I used to pay for gasoline, with no other maintenance costs! All I have to do is rotate the tires every 6 months and change the brake fluid every other year. That's it! And let's not forget about the Tesla supercharger network, which is both excellent and fast. The navigation system is also top-notch, directing me to the nearest chargers based on my range and destination. It's safe to say that the future is here, and I'm thrilled to be a part of it!

I was fortunate enough to be one of the first to receive the fully loaded Model 3 Performance, and I must say, it brings me joy every day. Compared to any other car I've driven, the handling, acceleration, fit and finish, and electronics are unparalleled. With a range of over 300 miles, I find that I only need to recharge on longer trips, which has become a seamless part of ownership. It may take a week to get used to the center display that controls virtually everything on the car, but once you do, you'll realize that this is how car controls should be laid out. Additionally, the car is updated regularly, so my Model 3 Performance is always the most up-to-date Tesla on the road. It's truly spectacular. If you're considering purchasing this car, I highly recommend test driving one and speaking with someone who owns one. You'll receive honest feedback that will help alleviate any fears you may have, which are likely based on the unknown rather than any shortcomings of this car.

I've owned my 2019 Model 3 for 15,000 miles and 3 years, and recently sold it to a local Porsche dealer. Despite the fact that I sold it for $4,500 less than what I paid for it new, I was pleasantly surprised to find that it held its value remarkably well. I'm now in the process of ordering a new 2022 Model 3, which is actually less expensive than what the Porsche dealer is asking for my used M3. While the car was a bit pricey, I found that it offered great value for the range and performance it provides, especially when compared to other EVs on the market. The car feels solid and well-built, although I did find the seat material to be a bit lacking for a car in this price range. However, longer distances are a breeze thanks to the Supercharger network. Tesla has done an excellent job designing the driver experience from start to finish - they've simplified it to the basics, such as turning on the car with a simple press of the brake, unlike other carmakers that require you to push a redundant start button. This is by far the best driving car I've ever owned, but it's important to note that it's a very sporty car. While the handling is amazing, it comes at the cost of a punishing ride and it can be uncomfortably loud on most freeway surfaces. The headrests are hard and can't be adjusted, which can be painful for passengers if the driver has high-regen set. However, we've set the car to default to standard regen, chill mode, and comfort steering, which makes for a much smoother ride for passengers. The back seat is not very comfortable, as the seat seems flat and unsupportive. What I love most about this car is never having to go to the gas station - charging at home is the best thing ever. I also appreciate the massive trunk and the streaming media for music. However, during a heat wave in the summer of 2021, the rear glass spontaneously developed an 18-inch crack from the trunk lid up. It took Tesla service over a month to obtain the new glass, and they indicated that it may have been caused by something getting caught between the lid and glass when I shut the trunk. Overall, I highly recommend the Model 3 for its great value, excellent performance, and innovative features.I don't recall that happening, but unfortunately, it wasn't covered under warranty, so it cost nearly $900 to replace. However, Tesla's supercharger network is impressive, and they have come a long way in improving their service experience. While the process is now app-based and somewhat inflexible, they still offer innovative engineering and the best range in the market. Overall, I believe that the Tesla M3 is still the best value electric car available.

The car cabin can become quite noisy when the speed exceeds 70 mph and the noise level reaches 75 decibels. This is due to the cheap weather strip and poorly sealed openings around the windows and doors, which causes wind gushing sounds from the front windows and windshield. Unfortunately, the service center's response has been extremely poor and inconvenient. They only take appointments from 8:30 am to 5 or 6 pm, and they do not offer any assistance on Saturdays. This can be inconvenient for people who work during the same hours and require maintenance. We understand how frustrating this can be and we apologize for any inconvenience caused.

When you spend $65,000 for a vehicle, you rightfully expect everything to work as intended. Unfortunately, my new Model Three had some issues with the Bluetooth connection. Despite the tech team's best efforts, the problem persisted even after a software re-download, which also caused some other features to stop working. I was disappointed to learn that the car did not have some standard features, such as automatic rear braking and rear cross traffic alert, that are typically found in vehicles at this price point. While I enjoyed driving the car, I ultimately decided to return it within the seven day period due to my concerns about its reliability.

I've owned the Model 3 since April of 2019 and have had mixed feelings about the car. While the economy and performance of the drivetrain are outstanding, there are multiple areas where the car falls short for me. The audio system performance is very good, but unfortunately, on demand music content and XM radio are not included as part of the audio user interface and are only accessible via your cell phone. This means having your cell phone mounted somewhere or having it in your hand, which can be frustrating. Keep in mind how unreliable cell phone coverage is in congested areas or areas out of cell phone range, so plan to be prepared. Tesla does offer a very vanilla version of on demand audio, and a dumbed down version of Spotify, but it's not as advanced as Apple Car Play. Hands-free and phone-free XM Radio, Apple Car Play, etc. are pretty much standard with the user interface of even most mid-range and lower-priced sedans. If you're used to this, you'll be frustrated with having to fool with your phone when you want access to this content. The car does not offer true keyless entry via a real key fob but opts for either a very cumbersome key card, or a 1990's type manual key fob that requires locking and unlocking the car manually. The Tesla phone app ostensibly serves that purpose via Bluetooth, but it can often take up to ten seconds and multiple unsuccessful pulls on the door handle to open. Obviously, this is not very convenient in the cold, rain, or an emergency where you would need to enter the car quickly. It's honestly the only car I can remember where the door didn't open on the first pull. BTW the futuristic door handles are cool but can be confusing for new passengers. This sounds insignificant, but it can become extremely annoying day after day.How about a car of the future that opens when you pull on the handle for the first time? The auto wipers work intermittently, so you usually go back to manual mode when you need them. Instead of the wiper control on the stalk, it appears on the screen, requiring the driver to reach over as opposed to simply turning the stalk control. Also, you can count on your wipers scraping your dry windshield the next morning if you forget to turn auto mode off. It doesn't sound like a big deal until you need them, then it can be very disconcerting. If you live in a cold weather climate, you may be disappointed in the climate control. The heater works OK if you don't exceed 70 MPH or if you keep it at 80 degrees or higher. In either case, for some reason, the car never actually heats up at temps below 30. I have a service call in to Tesla on it that I placed on Nov 27th. The earliest appointment is for January 2nd (36 day wait!), telling me that either Tesla is understaffed or overburdened with service issues. Sure would be a bummer if the car had a drivetrain issue, huh? For some reason, I always seem to have to engage the stalk at least twice in order to go into drive or reverse, but Tesla can't validate why and declined to fix that. It does eventually work, so I guess that's good enough for Tesla. The rear trunk is actually pretty spacious, but without a hatchback, it can be a pain to use with large items. Also, there is no cargo net for groceries and loose items and no back window wiper in the event of rain or snow. Good luck with a flat tire as there are no spare or run-flat tires included with the car. The drivetrain and suspension are exhilarating, and the performance is nothing short of spectacular, but don't expect a comfortable ride. The car is very low to the ground, and the ride, while very tight, is very harsh. This is not a luxury car ride experience. It feels more like a sports car than a luxury cruiser.Great if you like it, but it can be annoying on bumpy roads or snow and ice and honestly can wear on you day after day if you like a smoother ride. Adjustable suspension would be a good improvement. I've had several service calls since owning it and had to have the entire steering wheel assembly replaced as the directional signals didn't work correctly. The auto high beams sometimes work and sometimes not. A couple of months after buying the car the headlights wouldn't shut off and required rebooting the car. Every day is a new experience with the Model 3. I'll admit, it keeps it interesting. Finally, after almost eight months of ownership, I would give the car a B- at best. Great drive train but too many issues. Annoying would be the operant term for me. If you're looking for a reliable and predictably good driving experience, I'm not sure this is the car for you. On the other hand, Elon and the team are to be commended for trying to change the world. I would just advise them to pay attention to the details while they're doing that.

The car is fast, comfortable to drive and safe. Although, I faced some issues while picking up the car, the pickup went very smooth and quick once I got to the Tesla dealer. On my way back home, I wasn't completely satisfied with the car and wanted to return it within the seven day return period, but unfortunately, I had driven too many miles. After the first wash, I found two dents on the top rear trunk, which Tesla did not want to fix. I made an appointment for service through the Tesla app, which was a bit inconvenient, but the service center in Rocklin, CA was able to help me out. Although there were some delays in the appointment date due to updates in the app, I was able to get additional service. However, I am currently facing an issue with the car's sudden acceleration, which Tesla service says is operating as intended. Overall, I think the service could be improved, as it is mainly app-based and there is no option to call for an appointment.
