2016 Subaru Xv crosstrek problems
The Subaru Crosstrek (Japanese: スバル・クロストレック, Hepburn: Subaru Kurosutorekku) (also known as the Subaru XV globally for the first two generations) is a compact crossover SUV produced by Subaru since 2012. It is a successor to the Outback Sport in the United States and Canada, and the Impreza XV globally. Like the Outback Sport, the Crosstrek is a lifted Impreza hatchback with minor differences, though with a more substantial lift than the Outback Sport.
Initially, the vehicle was marketed as the XV globally, and as the XV Crosstrek in the United States and Canada. In 2015, Subaru dropped the XV moniker in the United States and Canada, marketing it simply as the Crosstrek for the 2016 model year and onward. In 2022, Subaru introduced the third-generation model, using the Crosstrek nameplate globally for the first time.
All generations of the Crosstrek are raised versions of the Subaru Impreza hatchback.

- CVT Problems: The Subaru Lineartronic CVT has undergone numerous revisions and has been largely issue-free since around 2015, but earlier models from 2013 to 2014 have been reported to have more frequent CVT issues, including severe hesitation on pull-away, trembling ratio changes, grinding and/or knocking noises while operating, and stalling when coming to a stop .
- Unintended Acceleration: Some Subaru models from the time period of the first-generation Crosstrek, including the 2016 and 2017 models, may be susceptible to sudden unintended acceleration . This issue is the subject of a class-action lawsuit filed in 2020 in the District of New Jersey, but there is not yet enough information to make a final determination .
- Batteries Draining: Premature battery failure is still a problem for Subaru, with all Crosstrek battery issues from 2013 to 2017, as well as issues with Foresters and Outbacks . It is still a CVT, though, and this particular type of transmission is unfortunately known to degrade prematurely . Earlier 2013 to 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek CVT issues are much more prevalent .
