2012 Subaru Tribeca problems
The Subaru Tribeca is a mid-size crossover SUV made from 2005 to 2014. Released in some markets, including Canada, as the Subaru B9 Tribeca, the car derives its name from the Tribeca neighborhood of New York City. Built on the Subaru Legacy platform and sold in five- and seven-seat configurations, the Tribeca was intended to be sold alongside a slightly revised version known as the Saab 9-6X. Saab, at the time a subsidiary of General Motors (GM), abandoned the 9-6X program just prior to its release subsequent to GM's 2005 divestiture of its 20 percent stake in FHI.
Inspired by the B9X concept car, the Tribeca's original design was criticized at launch and subsequently revised in 2007 for the 2008 model year, and the model name was shortened to simply Tribeca in all markets.
Although not sold in Japan, North American markets received the Tribeca in 2005 for the 2006 model year, and it was introduced to Australasia and Europe in late 2006. In addition to these markets, the Tribeca was also sold in South America, South Africa, China, the Middle East, and parts of Southeast Asia.

Common 2012 Subaru Tribeca problems
Based on complaints from owners of the Subaru Tribeca 2012, several common problems have been reported:
- Shaking While Driving: The 2009 Subaru Tribeca, which is part of the 2012 model year, has been associated with shaking while driving, which is the most-reported problem for this model. The average cost to fix this issue ranges from $3,000 to $6,200, depending on the mileage.
- Puddle Light Malfunction: Owners of the 2008 to 2012 Tribeca reported problems with the welcome puddle lights that would stop working due to water collecting in the side mirror, corroding electrical connections, and melting the housing. A recall was issued to seal the wiring harness and address this issue.
- Rust on Front Brake Rotors: Some drivers of the 2010 Subaru Tribeca experienced significant rust on the front brake rotors after a relatively low mileage of 45,000 miles. The solution involved replacing the affected rotors to resolve the problem.
- Door Flying Open While in Motion: A limited number of 2010 Tribeca owners faced a serious safety issue where the door would fly open while the car was in motion. This was caused by incorrect routing of the power cable for the windows in the front doors during assembly. A recall was issued to inspect and reposition the cabling as necessary.
- Suspension Squeaking: Some owners of the 2008 Subaru Tribeca reported a strange squeak in the suspension, particularly noticeable during wet weather. While dealers confirmed the noise, it was not linked to any mechanical failures and tended to diminish in warm, dry weather.
- Ignition Switch Issues: Early Tribeca models included a manual keyed ignition that could lead to the car shutting off while in motion. This was caused by the key ring's weight or the driver's knee inadvertently switching the key to the accessory position, cutting power to the engine. A recall was issued to replace defective ignition switches if found.
These problems highlight various issues that owners of the Subaru Tribeca 2012 have faced, ranging from safety concerns like doors flying open to minor electrical malfunctions. Addressing these issues promptly is crucial to ensure the safety and reliability of the vehicle.

- Consequence: Over time, migration of the moisture into the circuit board and/or into the connector cavity, may result in a short circuit of the puddle light system. This may generate heat which may melt the plastic resulting in smoke or fire.

I'm glad to hear that this is your fourth Subaru and that you're sold on its versatility, reliability, and safety. It's great to know that the Tribeca performs well in terms of appearance, comfort, and safety, ranking number 1 in its class. While it may not have the best fuel economy, this is likely due to its heavy weight and all-wheel drive system. The third row seat is a nice feature for children 8 and under, and with it down, there is plenty of storage room. It's unfortunate that the electronic fold-in mirrors are not available for tight spaces like the garage, but it's good to hear that you haven't experienced any issues with the vehicle at 9,889 miles. Thank you for sharing your experience with us!

We upgraded from an '06 Outback to a '10 Tribeca due to our growing family and the limited space in the Outback for rear-facing car seats. The Tribeca has been a great all-around vehicle for us. It has plenty of power and handles corners with ease. The seats are wider than in the Outback, which makes long trips much easier, especially for a big guy like myself. While the third row is a bit tight, it's meant for kids, so it's not a big issue for us. We purchased the 'base' Tribeca, but it comes with standard features that are options in competing vehicles like the Traverse. Overall, we've been very happy with our purchase.

I recently traded in my 2009 Forester XT and I have no regrets at all. The Tribeca is overall a much nicer SUV. The only thing I miss is the turbo in the XT, but everything else has been great!

I have a 2012 Tribeca that has been an awesome car! Other than brakes and belts, I have had no issues and now it has 220,000 miles. Although it tends to go through headlight bulbs prematurely and the fuel mileage is not super, if I drive the car conservatively, I can get 29 mpg. I absolutely love this car and cannot wait to review it again after it turns 300,000 miles!

Hi there! I'm new to Subaru and recently made the switch from Toyota to the Tribeca because of its sleek design and great features. After driving over 1000 miles, I have a few minor gripes that I wanted to share. Firstly, I find the steering wheel mounted audio controls to be poorly placed, as I tend to accidentally change the radio station when making hard turns. Additionally, the gas mileage could be better, as I'm currently averaging 18.6 highway miles per gallon. I also haven't noticed much of a difference between regular drive mode and 'Sport' mode. The leather seats could use some improvement in terms of fit and finish, as there are a few bunched up spots. Lastly, I wish there was more small storage space for items like sunglasses, wallets, and my Garmin. Oh, and the Good-Year tires that came with the car aren't great in the snow! Overall, I'm still enjoying my Tribeca and look forward to more adventures in it. Thanks for listening!

My 4th Subaru and first Tribeca. I live in Australia and vehicle specs different to USA and Europe.Issues are, no fold back mirrors, not reversing sensors, no digital speed, no auto on/off headlights, no rear fog light/s, steering wheel not adjustiable for in and out, unable to program Sat Nav to show vehicle speed roadway speed and set over speed warning or other warnings. Also only able to install 'whereis' GPS software which cost AU$295 for a one year map. Subaru and Kenwood refused to re-program or show me how to re-program unit. No alarm system and not 'pre-wired' as advertised and then went back on deal to pay for alarm if I paid for fitting. Subaru lied and no after sales support.
