2009 Subaru Tribeca problems
The Subaru Tribeca is a mid-size crossover SUV made from 2005 to 2014. Released in some markets, including Canada, as the Subaru B9 Tribeca, the car derives its name from the Tribeca neighborhood of New York City. Built on the Subaru Legacy platform and sold in five- and seven-seat configurations, the Tribeca was intended to be sold alongside a slightly revised version known as the Saab 9-6X. Saab, at the time a subsidiary of General Motors (GM), abandoned the 9-6X program just prior to its release subsequent to GM's 2005 divestiture of its 20 percent stake in FHI.
Inspired by the B9X concept car, the Tribeca's original design was criticized at launch and subsequently revised in 2007 for the 2008 model year, and the model name was shortened to simply Tribeca in all markets.
Although not sold in Japan, North American markets received the Tribeca in 2005 for the 2006 model year, and it was introduced to Australasia and Europe in late 2006. In addition to these markets, the Tribeca was also sold in South America, South Africa, China, the Middle East, and parts of Southeast Asia.

Common 2009 Subaru Tribeca problems
The 2009 Subaru Tribeca has been reported to have several common problems based on complaints from owners of this car. One of the most significant issues is with the engine, which is the worst category for the 2009 model year.
Another issue with the 2009 Subaru Tribeca is related to the transmission. The car was equipped with a 5-speed automatic transmission, which was mated to a Jatco 5EAT transmission. The Box fluid often overheats, which can seriously affect the health of the machine. The additional radiator is installed only on European versions, and the automatic transmission may need to be repaired after 150 to 200,000 kilometers
The 2009 Subaru Tribeca also has problems with the all-wheel-drive system. The branded symmetrical all-wheel drive in normal mode distributes the thrust along the axis in a ratio of 45 to 55. Torque is transmitted to the front wheels directly from the box where the front differential is integrated and to the rear wheels through the rear differential. Malfunctions of key components of the all-wheel-drive system are rare, but sometimes the oil overheating in the rear differential can occur
In addition to these mechanical issues, some owners have reported problems with the central monitor. Ripples appear, the image twitches or disappears after 150 to 200,000 kilometers. The backlight of the round climate control regulators begins to dim or flicker, and it is necessary to solder the contacts of the microcircuit under the top cover of the radio
Finally, some owners have reported problems with the body of the 2009 Subaru Tribeca. Small paint bulges can be found on the roof of the old Tribeca near the windshield on the lower edge of the tailgate and in the area of the wheel arches. Sometimes paint peels off the front bumper in places of chips after 100 to 150,000 kilometers
In summary, the 2009 Subaru Tribeca has several common problems, including engine shaking while driving, transmission issues, all-wheel-drive system malfunctions, central monitor problems, and body paint issues. These problems can be costly to fix and may affect the safety and reliability of the vehicle.
Is Subaru Tribeca 2009 a good car?
With class-competitive performance and a somewhat smaller size than most of its midsize rivals, the Tribeca is peppy enough and fairly easy to maneuver in crowded parking lots and on city streets. Of course, the standard all-wheel drive also provides confidence when driving in foul weather.
Are Subaru Tribecas reliable?
The Subaru Tribeca Reliability Rating is 3.5 out of 5.0, which ranks it 18th out of 26 for midsize SUVs. The average annual repair cost is $563 which means it has average ownership costs.
Why was the Subaru Tribeca discontinued?
The biggest reason for the Subaru Tribeca being discontinued was the low sales rate. They simply weren't selling, so Subaru decided to scrap the name and car in favour of a better vehicle, the Subaru Ascent. In 2014, the last year the Tribeca was sold, only 732 models were sold.
How many miles can you get out of a Subaru Tribeca?
While results will vary and the big variable is always how well the car has been maintained, what I can tell you is a Subaru is capable of going 300,000 miles. And if you are a regular maintenance type of owner you should expect to get that type of mileage out of it.

LITHER SUBURU IN WHITE BEAR LAKE MN WAS REQUESTED TO CHECK THIS OUT FOR ANOTHER SERVICE MAINTENANCE. THEY WOULD NOT CHECK IT BECAUSE IT WAS NOT UNDER RECALL SUCH AS THE 2011 LEGACY MODEL. SINCE MY WIFE DRIVES THE VEHICLE SHE IS NOT KNOWLEDGEABLE AS TO THE DISTANCE THE FOOT PEDAL SHOULD TRAVEL. I HAVE SPENT YEARS IN AUTOMOTIVE AND HEAVY EQUIPMENT AS A SERVICE ENGINEER SO I FEEL QUALIFIED TO SAY THAT THIS IS A SAFETY DEFICIENCY. I HAD ANOTHER ENGINEER DRIVE IT TO VERIFY MY CONCLUSION. *TR

- Summary: WHEN ACCELERATING MODERATELY, THE DRIVETRAIN/TRANSMISSION SHUDDERS. THE VEHICLE HESITATES FOR A BRIEF PERIOD OF TIME AND THEN BEGINS TO ACCELERATE. THIS USUALLY OCCURS BETWEEN 20-40 MPH, ESPECIALLY WHEN MOVING IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC. DEALER HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE CONDITION AND NO "ERROR CODES" ARE SHOWING IN THE COMPUTER. MY WIFE DOES NOT FEEL CONFIDENT DRIVING THE VEHICLE ANY LONGER AS IT MAKES IT DANGEROUS TO PULL INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. APPARENTLY WE ARE NOT THE ONLY PEOPLE TO EXPERIENCE THIS, BUT SUBARU DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE WILLING TO RECTIFY THIS CONDITION. OWNERS OF 2008 AND 2009 TRIBECA'S FREQUENTLY COMPLAIN ABOUT THIS ISSUE, BUT "NOTHING IS WRONG" WHEN THE VEHICLES ARE LOOKED AT BY SUBARU TECHNICIANS. I WONDER IS SUBARU IS HAVING THEIR DEALERS COVER UP THIS ISSUE. *TR

Negative 2009 Subaru Tribeca car reviews
Positive 2009 Subaru Tribeca car reviews
-
'08 Tribeca is a significant improvement over the underpowered '07 model, and the design and build quality are excellent. Although it's a bit of a gas guzzler, averaging only 17 mpg, it's a beautiful car that I'm very happy with.
-
Great handling and superior forward vision. Very nice ride.
-
As a proud owner of a Subaru, I can confidently say that it has been a reliable and comfortable car. Although I have faced some issues with the tires, such as a nail puncture and a loose rim, I still believe in the quality of this vehicle. While there are some downsides, such as the gas mileage and lack of automatic hatch opener, I would still consider leasing another one in the future. With some improvements, this car could be even better.
-
Tribeca is such a fun car to drive! I really like the cool-looking instrument panel that is also easy to read. The interior design is great too. The front seats make you feel like you're in a cockpit, not just any regular car seat. However, it is a bit tighter on space compared to other similar SUVs. Unfortunately, the mileage is a bit disappointing as we're only getting just over 15mpg with all city/local driving.
-
I recently traded in my problematic Audi Allroad and decided to purchase an 08 LL Bean Outback 3.0L in April. My family and I are very impressed with it! I also had the chance to test the Tribeca, but unfortunately, I didn't like the interior design as it felt too spacey. After looking at all the other CUV/SUVs and wagons, I thought about purchasing a used MDX, but I ended up liking the new Subi better. I completely agree with all the comments about the stupid nav system, but they can easily fix that by issuing a new software update if they're smart. Currently, I'm getting 19mpg on 87octane while buzzing around town and commuting 42 miles each way a day. The car has 1750 miles and will improve. Overall, I'm very comfortable and pleased with my purchase. Driving in Sport mode only helps to improve the performance, which is a bonus!

When considering the 7-passenger model, it's important to keep in mind that the leg room in the rear seats is limited, so taller passengers may not be as comfortable. Additionally, the middle seat in the second row has a ceiling-mounted seat belt that may cause some discomfort for the passenger sitting to the right. The gas mileage may not be as efficient as some would prefer, so it's worth keeping this in mind when making a decision. The navigation screen may also darken when the headlights are turned on. It's worth noting that the keyless remote can be unreliable, so it's recommended to use the key to lock and unlock the car to avoid any issues with the alarm. Finally, the CD changer may require manual switching between CDs and the middle seats may not be the most comfortable. Overall, it's important to weigh these factors when considering this model.

After almost two years of ownership, my car's warranty is about to expire. Unfortunately, I have had to bring it in for warranty fixes three times, including a jammed CD player, a mechanical issue with the front right drive train, and a problem with the climate control. Despite the mechanics acknowledging the issue during my three visits, I was informed that the system is functioning normally. However, I am still experiencing cold air blowing when the temperature is set to 72, which is making my 3-year-old freeze in the back seat. I am disappointed with this car and have decided to switch back to an Outback.

I purchased the vehicle a year ago and have noticed that the oil burns very quickly. Despite adding 4 quarts of oil, the dipstick was completely empty just two weeks later. Tires Plus suggested that I take the vehicle to the dealership as the oil is burning too quickly and could cause engine issues. Additionally, I have been experiencing frequent headlight bulb outages. I have replaced both the left and right headlights twice in the last 4 months. Currently, both high beams and fog lights are out, and the trunk light flickers from time to time. Lastly, the threads on the leather seats are coming apart. It's important for me to check my oil weekly to ensure it doesn't run dry.

The BMW X5 was my previous car, and while I initially thought the Tribeca was comparable, it has unfortunately proven to be far from it. I have experienced several mechanical issues, including a persistent air leak in the front left tire, compressed foam in the center console, and a high-pitched noise at certain speeds. Despite bringing these issues to my dealer's attention, they have been unable to provide a solution. Additionally, I have encountered difficulties installing blue-tooth due to the proprietary cd/radio system, and there is a noticeable amount of cabin noise while driving. While the heated seats and back-up camera are nice features, the ride is not as firm as the BMW X5, and the small gas tank (less than 16 gallons) is a major inconvenience, resulting in gas mileage of only 15 city and 18 highway. Overall, I am disappointed with the Tribeca's performance and Subaru's lack of interest in addressing my concerns.

I have owned several Subaru Outbacks in the past and recently purchased a 2009 Subaru Tribeca. Unfortunately, I experienced some issues with the car, but I am confident that the problem has been resolved. The check engine light came on within the first eight months, but it was a minor issue with a faulty sensor. Recently, the car lost power while I was driving, but the problem was quickly identified and resolved by updating the computer. Overall, I am still a fan of Subaru and trust in their quality vehicles.
