The Porsche 911 (pronounced Nine Eleven or in German: Neunelf) is a two-door 2+2 high performance rear-engined sports car introduced in September 1964 by Porsche AG of Stuttgart, Germany. It has a rear-mounted flat-six engine and originally a torsion bar suspension. The car has been continuously enhanced through the years but the basic concept has remained unchanged. The engines were air-cooled until the introduction of the 996 series in 1998.

The 911 has been raced extensively by private and factory teams, in a variety of classes. It is among the most successful competition cars. In the mid-1970s, the naturally aspirated 911 Carrera RSR won world championship races including Targa Florio and the 24 Hours of Daytona. The 911-derived 935 turbo also won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1979. Porsche won the World Championship for Makes in 1976, 1977, 1978, and 1979 with 911-derived models.

In a 1999 poll to determine the Car of the Century, the 911 was fifth. It is one of two in the top five that had remained continuously in production (the original Beetle remained in production until 2003). The one millionth example was manufactured in May 2017 and is in the company's permanent collection.

Common 2014 Porsche 911 carrera problems

Based on the complaints from owners of the Porsche 911 Carrera 2014, several common problems have been identified:

  1. 200rpm Surge Issue: Owners have reported a 200rpm surge accompanied by a power surge or just with an increase in rpm. This issue may indicate a clutch slip, similar to what was experienced with the PDK transmission in the 997 model. Calibration of the PDK system has helped in some cases, but if the power surge is present, it could point to a different component causing the problem.
  2. Electrical Misbehavior: Some owners have faced strange and seemingly random electrical misbehavior in the interior systems of the car. This can manifest as interior lights staying on, airbag faults, seat malfunctions, among others. The root cause of this issue has been traced back to a control module located under the driver's seat, which can get water damaged, especially in cabriolet models, leading to electrical faults over time.
  3. Ignition Switch Failure: Another common problem reported is the failure of the ignition switch. Symptoms include the key getting stuck in the ignition or the car not starting. This issue is typically caused by a failure in the ignition switch mechanism. Replacing the electrical portion of the switch can usually resolve the no-start problem, but in some cases, the mechanical portion of the switch may also need replacement.

These issues highlight some of the common problems faced by owners of the Porsche 911 Carrera 2014. Addressing these concerns promptly and accurately can help maintain the performance and reliability of this high-performance vehicle.
