The Pontiac Vibe is a compact car that was sold by Pontiac from 2002 to 2010. It was jointly developed by General Motors along with Toyota, which manufactured the mechanically similar Toyota Matrix. Manufactured by the Toyota-GM joint venture NUMMI in Fremont, California, the Vibe succeeded the Chevrolet Prizm in production at NUMMI and like the Prizm, it was derived from the Toyota Corolla, making it the last of the GM and Toyota developed S-body cars.
From 2002 to 2004, a rebadged right-hand drive variant of the Vibe was exported as the Toyota Voltz to the Japanese domestic market. The Voltz did not sell well in Japan and was discontinued after two model years.
Production of the Vibe ended in 2009 with the discontinuation of the Pontiac brand and the closing of NUMMI under the General Motors Chapter 11 reorganization. Its twin, the Toyota Matrix, was in production for another three years for the American market and four years for the Canadian market, as the Matrix was manufactured by Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada in Cambridge, Ontario and was unaffected by NUMMI closing down operation.

AFTER WAITING 90 MINUTES, I WAS TOLD THEY DID NOT HAVE THE RIGHT PART. I DO NOT KNOW WHY THEY DID NOT KNOW THIS WHEN THEY MADE THE APPOINTMENT OR WHEN I CHECKED IN (THE KING O'ROURKE CHECK-IN PROCESS CAN TAKE UP TO 20 MINUTES). THEY SAID THEY WOULD ORDER THE PART AND CALL ME WHEN IT WAS AVAILABLE. THEY NEVER CALLED ME. I CALLED THEM IN EARLY NOVEMBER 2016 AND THEY SAID THEY HAD THE PART AND SET UP AN APPOINTMENT FOR NOV. 30, 2016. I ARRIVED AT 7:45 A.M. AND WENT THROUGH CHECK-IN AND WAS TOLD AT 8:45 THAT THEY DID NOT HAVE THE PART. AGAIN, I DON'T KNOW WHY THEY WOULD NOT KNOW THIS WHEN THEY MADE THE APPOINTMENT OR WHEN I FIRST CHECKED IN. SO THE LATET PLAN IS THEY SAY THEY HAVE TO REORDER THE PROPER PART AND THEY WILL CONTACT ME WHEN IT ARRIVES. I HAVE NOT HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH MY AIRBAGS. JUST A BIG PROBLEM GETTING THE RECALL COMPLETED WITH KING O'ROURKE.

- Components: AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:PASSENGER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE
- Summary: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2003-2008 Corolla, 2005-2008 Corolla Matrix, and Pontiac Vibe vehicles equipped with a front passenger air bag assembly replaced under a prior recall. The air bag may not unfold as designed during inflation under high temperature conditions, possibly resulting in the air bag not inflating properly.
- Consequence: An improperly inflated air bag increases the risk of injury during a crash.
- Remedy: Toyota will notify their owners. Pontiac Vibe owners will be notified by GM. Dealers will replace the front passenger air bag assembly or sub-assembly, free of charge. Toyota owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-888-270-9371. Toyota's numbers for this recall are K1Q and K0Q. Pontiac owners may contact GM customer service at 1-800-762-2737. - Summary: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain model year 2008-2010 Lexus SC vehicles manufactured August 3, 2007, to July 30, 2010, 2008 Toyota Corolla vehicles manufactured May 25, 2007, to December 21, 2007, 2008 Toyota Corolla Matrix vehicles manufactured June 1, 2007, to December 18, 2007, and 2008 Pontiac Vibe vehicles manufactured June 1, 2007, to January 2, 2008. This is to address a safety defect in the passenger side frontal air bag inflator which may produce excessive internal pressure causing the inflator to rupture upon deployment of the air bag. This recall addresses both the passenger side frontal air bags that were originally installed in the vehicles, as well as replacement air bags that may have been installed as replacement service parts. A replacement air bag may have been installed, as one example, if a vehicle had been in a crash necessitating the replacement of the passenger side frontal air bag.
- Consequence: In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the passenger's frontal air bag, the inflator could rupture with metal fragments striking the vehicle occupants potentially resulting in serious injury or death.
- Remedy: The recall began on March 25, 2016 for Toyota and Lexus vehicle owners. The recall began on June 23, 2016 for GM owners. The respective dealers will either replace the front passenger air bag inflator or the entire front passenger air bag assembly depending on the model. THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECM) FOR THE SUBJECT MODELS EQUIPPED WITH THE 1ZZ-FE (LV6) ENGINE AND TWO-WHEEL DRIVE MAY HAVE BEEN IMPROPERLY MANUFACTURED. THERE IS A POSSIBILITY THAT A CRACK MAY DEVELOP AT CERTAIN SOLDER POINTS OR ON VARISTORS ON THE CIRCUIT BOARD.
- Consequence: THERE ARE A VARIETY OF WARNINGS AND CONSEQUENCES ASSOCIATED WITH THE DEFECT. THE ENGINE WARNING LAMP COULD BE ILLUMINATED, HARSH SHIFTING COULD RESULT, THE ENGINE MAY NOT START, OR THE ENGINE COULD SHUT OFF WHILE THE VEHICLE IS BEING DRIVEN. AN ENGINE SHUTOFF WHILE THE VEHICLE IS BEING DRIVEN INCREASES THE RISK OF A CRASH.

I really like my Vibe! Although it doesn't have a lot of power and there is some road noise, it's still a pleasant car to drive. Plus, I get great mileage - I average 34 mpg on the highway with an automatic.

I paid $17,400 out the door for this car which has auto & power locks, keyless entry, and more. Although it doesn't have a sunroof, it's perfect for me as I needed a car that could haul a lot if needed and pull a small boat. So far, this car has been great! I even had a U-Haul hitch put on and it pulled my boat with ease. I was able to fit a beach cruiser bike in the back with no trouble, there was plenty of room and I didn't even have to put the front seat down! I also had an antenna iPod adapter installed so I can play my iPod, which is great! The only thing I'm not thrilled about is the color (a blue-green) which shows every speck of dust! Additionally, the Black-Charcoal interior draws heat and shows every hair, dirt, etc. However, I got cream seat covers which have made a difference.

I purchased this car with the intention of saving on gas mileage during my daily one-hour commute on the highway. However, I am disappointed to report that I am only achieving 25 miles per gallon, despite the sticker indicating a range of 26-31 mpg. Additionally, I was hoping to use a luggage carrier for travel purposes, but unfortunately, the car did not come with the necessary rails to hold the carrier, requiring an additional purchase. Furthermore, the placement of the radio antenna on the roof presents a challenge for the carrier's placement. Despite these issues, I do enjoy driving the car. I will need to evaluate whether it is worth keeping, given the poor gas mileage.

During my business trip to San Diego in 2006, I rented a Vibe and was pleasantly surprised. Despite being 6 foot 6 inches tall, I fit comfortably in the car and was impressed by its fuel efficiency. I was so impressed that I ended up purchasing a 2008 model, which averages 33-35 mpg in town and 36-39 mpg on the highway. The 5-speed transmission is also a joy to drive, especially around town. Thank you, Pontiac, for creating such a great little car!
