2007 Mini Cooper engine

What is the common problem of Mini Cooper?

The 1st generation (R50/R53) Mini Cooper is known for premature clutch wear and failure. This typically occurs between 40,000-60,000 miles on vehicles built from 2001-2006. The root cause is due to an under-designed single-mass flywheel and weak factory clutch that cannot handle the torque of the supercharged engines.

What is the problem with the 2007 Mini 1.6 petrol engine?

The high-pressure fuel pump has been known to fail on the Mini Countryman and the 2007 through 2009 Mini Cooper S models. If it does, this can result in a lack of power, rough running, and significantly reduced performance. You may notice that your check engine light comes on and the engine goes into “limp mode.”

What year is bad for Mini Cooper?

According to Consumer Reports surveys, Mini Cooper released from 2006–2012 is considered the worst years. Having said that, there have been problems in the earlier 2000's as well. First and second-generation MINI's had quite a few problems, of which the most significant was the transmission malfunction.

How many miles do 2007 Mini Coopers last?

The MINI Cooper is the type of car that's designed to last a long time. A MINI Cooper that's well cared for can last anywhere between 75 thousand miles to 150 thousand miles. Depending on how much you drive the car, it can last a long time.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-03-01
  • VIN: WMWMF33547T
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
  • Summary: The open recall for this vehicle has been open for 15 months now. Meanwhile my wife's car remains broken down with a bad footwell module due to the exact reason the recall is being issued. I contacted mini and they said I'd have to pay for repairs out of pocket and apply for reimbursement after they come up with a remedy. I have issues with this for a few reasons. First, the repair is costly. Second, it's already been over a year since the recall has been issued, and still no remedy so who knows when they'll actually have one. Third, they said that even if I pay for repairs out of pocket there's no guarantee I'd get reimbursed for them. In my opinion, for something as serious as this recall, the manufacturer should be on the clock to determine the remedy and repair customers cars. It would be nice if BMW/Mini would get some pressure to get this resolved so the my wife and the thousands of other people affected by this can enjoy the vehicles they spent their hard earned money on without worry that it might spontaneously burst into flames.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-03-13
  • VIN: WMWMF33577T
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING
  • Summary: My Mini Cooper was rendered unsafe to drive as most of the exterior lights (i.e., headlights, brake lights, turn signals) stopped working--all at once. A local mechanic verified that the electrical short resulted from a severely corroded Footwell Control Module, which is the subject of the recall (Recall No. 23V-337, July 2023) for which a "Remedy is Unavailable." When contacted, a case management specialist of BMW of North America could tell me only that a remedy is not yet available. Again, the car is unsafe to drive as it lacks exterior lighting. As such, I am forced to purchase another vehicle as the Mini Cooper sits unusable.

ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2016-11-16
  • VIN: WMWMF33537T
  • Components: ENGINE
  • Summary: On 2014 a Class Action Lawsuit was filed against BMW OF NORTH AMERICA for claims regarding MINI COOPER models. Answering your questions as follows: -The failing component was the timing chain tensioner -Yes, engine stalled at any speed -No, dealer did not acknowledge the real problem -No, dealer did not told me about the Class Action Lawsuit, did not advice me of any preventive repair or to install a new timing chain tensioner, when the component failed dealer told me that the problem was a jumping timing chain ; the same excuse as in the lawsuit. -There was only an engine light, not any other warning light There were two repairs, the first for $ 2,629.10 on 6/18/2016 the second for $ 3,354.93 on 1/13/2017 dealer had a two years parts and labor warranty that didn't honor and in 2016 the lawsuit was active and not of my knowledge. My question is: if the production numbers engraved on the timing chain tensioner cylinder face match or are part of the production batch from the factory for which the class action lawsuit took place ? Numbers top line: 7565868 80-02 Lower line: IV/ IS GERMANY 3 1 0 This is looks like half cero All components (parts) and the vehicle are available for inspection. Once engine is out of timing pistons will hit the valves (interference engine), in my engine broke at least one valve seat, pieces fell into combustion chamber getting stuck between pistons and cylinder walls scratching these, result lost of compression, engine die. Engine was beyond any repair, and still was charged for. Lawsuit for vehicles manufactured goes to April 2007 mine was February 2007 Neither the MINI COOPER dealer or BMW North America corporate offices paid any attention to my complaint.

THE VEHICLE SPONTANEOUSLY BURST INTO FLAMES WHICH BURNED THE ENGINE BAY AND FRONT END OF THE CAR BEFORE THE FIRE DEPT. ARRIVED AND EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE WITH FOAM. THE CAR HAD BEEN SITTING UNSTARTED FOR OVER A WEEK. I AM UNSURE OF WHAT CAUSED THE FIRE AND BECAUSE OF THE EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE BAY I COULD NOT DETERMINE WERE THE FIRE ORIGINATED. PERHAPS A PROFESSIONAL FIRE EXAMINER COULD DETERMINE THAT. I AM BLESSED THAT THIS DID NOT HAPPEN WHILE PARKED IN MY GARAGE BUT WAS SCARY. I JUST WANT THIS INCIDENT ON RECORD SO THAT OTHERS WHICH OWN THIS PARTICULAR TYPE OF VEHICLE CAN BE WARNED ABOUT THE POTENTIAL DANGERS. I HAVE OWNED THIS VEHICLE SINCE NEW AND HAD A COUPLE OF UPDATES DONE PER BMW SUCH AS THE TAILPIPES AND TIMING CHAIN IN THE ENGINE. I WAS NOT AWARE OF ANY ADDITIONAL RECALLS OR UPDATES BUT APPARENTLY THERE HAVE BEEN SOME INCIDENCES OF FIRES SUCH AS MINE WHICH I LEARNED ABOUT AFTER SEARCHING THE INTERNET TO SEE IF SIMILAR ISSUES HAD BEEN DOCUMENTED. I WILL ATTACH A FEW PICTURES FOR YOU TO HELP WITH YOUR ASSESSMENT. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME AND CONSIDERATION. I HOPE THIS INFORMATION WILL BE SOME HELP TO OTHERS IN PREVENTING A SIMILAR SITUATION. I THANK GOD NO ONE WAS INJURED OR PROPERTY DAMAGED OTHER THAN MY CAR. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT MADE A REPORT BUT IT DID NOT INCLUDE INVESTIGATING THE CAUSE JUST A RESPONSE TO A FIRE. *TR

Negative 2007 Mini Cooper car reviews

  1. Nelson Parisian 2024-11-23

I purchased my 2007 MC used with 24,000 miles. It was the perfect first car for me - small, easy to park, and fun to drive. However, after reaching 50,000 miles, the car's reliability took a turn for the worse. It has required service 7 times this year and has been towed twice. Everything from steering wheel locks to o2 sensors has needed to be replaced. It has started to overheat and make concerning sounds. Alignment pins have started rattling, which unfortunately is not covered in the warranty and will cost $700 to fix. After a recent service trip, the service light was at 10,000 miles, and two weeks later, it's at 7,000 miles. There's no possible way I drove 3k in two weeks. My mom and sister both have brand new minis and love them, so perhaps buying a used car is not the best option.

  2. Jakob Bergnaum 2024-11-07

My husband and I have been proud owners of a BMW product since 1986, and the Mini is no exception. It comes with all the benefits and drawbacks that are typical of a BMW. BMW is renowned for its exceptional engine, handling, and braking, and they prioritize performance over trivial features like cupholders or interior materials. But let's be honest, when you're behind the wheel of a BMW, you're having too much fun to care about those things! Just keep in mind that, like our other BMWs, maintenance costs can be quite high, averaging around $1,000 per visit. However, this is a small price to pay for the joy of owning such a fantastic car. I highly recommend attending a Mini car club dinner (yes, ladies too!) to meet other owners and discover the best mechanics and body shops in town.

  3. Collin Rippin 2024-10-09

I have owned and driven my car for 15 months. While it has been a fun ride, I have experienced some reliability and design issues. Unfortunately, I have had to take it in for repairs six times, including for issues with the turbo, audio amp, sunroof, tailpipe recall, and a factory built transmission motor mount that was too small. Additionally, my windshield has suffered from multiple stone chips and cracks due to the high windshield angle. The engine also has a cold idle issue that sounds like a diesel truck for 1-3 minutes. If you are looking for a car that is fun to drive around town and don't mind overlooking some flaws and major issues, then this car may be for you. However, I have decided to sell it at the end of the warranty. Thank you for considering my experience with this car.

  4. Demarco Beier 2024-08-18

I got my car in June. I used to have a VW Beetle, so I'm familiar with small cars, but every time I get into Coop, it seems to be getting smaller. The leatherette seats can make you sweat, and the doors don't stay open, but overall it's a fun car to drive, especially when you go fast. However, in the city with stop-and-go traffic, it can be a bit jumpy. I'm not sure if that's normal, but the dealership assures me that it is. It's been in the shop twice since I got it. The first time was because my check engine light came on, and I asked them to check the

  5. Salvador Cronin 2024-08-09

This is a cool looking car and a blast to drive, but unfortunately, we have had some issues with the service at the dealer. We have only driven 45,000 miles, and we have already had to replace the tires twice, as well as the door locks that broke. Currently, we need a new turbo and a valve job. We were told that this may be due to not changing the oil often enough, but we were not informed of this when we purchased the car, nor when we brought it in for maintenance. It would be great if they could contact us, like almost every other high-quality car manufacturer, when we are due for maintenance.

Positive 2007 Mini Cooper car reviews

  1. Jamison Reichert 2024-11-16

I chose to wait for the '07 model because I was drawn to its design details and the fact that it comes with a 6-speed as standard on the base MINI. The driving experience is simply amazing, and I find myself eagerly anticipating the next time I get behind the wheel, whether it's parked in my garage or at work. I didn't feel the need to upgrade to the MINI Cooper S, as I'm perfectly happy with the base model. So far, I've been getting an average of 28 MPG (city driving only), but I can't wait to take MINI MAC out on the open road to see what he's really capable of. And yes, I say 'he' because my MINI has become so personalized and full of character. MINI MAC really shines on the curves and always turns heads wherever we go. With great gas mileage, plenty of new technology, and loads of fun, I couldn't be happier with my choice.

Congratulations on owning a MINI! It's great to hear that you're enjoying the experience so much. Your commute sounds like a breeze, especially with the impressive fuel efficiency you're getting. It's wonderful to hear that you feel so connected to the road and that driving in the rain is no longer a concern. It's clear that you have a special bond with your car, which is always a great feeling. Thank you for sharing your positive experience with us!

I have a one-year lease on a basic Mini. I got Minnie, my Mini, six weeks ago off the lot, so it came with features I would not have ordered or known I wanted or needed - but now I love them. However, I have been a bit worried since the check engine light came on intermittently from day 3, due to gas cap issues, it seems - but then it went away. It went on again yesterday (1100 miles) when the tank got low, but that was okay. Despite not being into cars, I find it fun to drive. It's like a go-kart but feels super safe, and you don't feel small. It can be a bit tight if you're on a long trip trying to stuff lots of stuff in the car, but with one person, you can do it. Two people may find it tougher, though. I love my Mini, and it gets lots of compliments!

This car is a blast to drive and always turns heads! The MINI mania HP upgrades really make a difference in performance. The Borla exhaust can be a bit loud on long trips, but it's worth it for the extra power. While there have been some body fit issues, the dealer is working to fix them. There have also been a few quality issues, which is surprising for a BMW product. One of the key remotes didn't work, but the dealer replaced it. The line to the boost gauge came loose and triggered some engine warnings, but overall the car is fully loaded with fun features. The performance and looks are definitely high points. The electric top has a few quirks, but it generally works very well. Overall, this is a really fun ride!

We have owned BMW, Acura, Jaguars, Fiat, Saabs, and Peugeots, but by far, this Mini is our favorite. Almost daily, someone says, 'Great car,' and we always agree.
