The Mercury Cougar is a series of automobiles that was sold by Mercury from 1967 to 2002. The model line is a diverse series of vehicles; though the Cougar nameplate is most commonly associated with two-door coupes, at various stages in its production, the model also was offered as a convertible and a hatchback. During its production as the mid-size Mercury line, the Cougar was also offered as a four-door sedan and five-door station wagon.
In production for 34 years across eight generations (skipping the 1998 model year), the Cougar is second only to the Grand Marquis (36 years) in the Mercury line for production longevity. 2,972,784 examples were produced, making it the highest-selling Mercury vehicle. During the 1970s and 1980s, the marketing of the Mercury division was closely associated with the Cougar, with promotional materials advertising Mercury dealers as "The Sign of the Cat" with big cats atop Lincoln-Mercury dealer signs. Cat-related nameplates were adopted by other Mercury lines, including the Bobcat and Lynx.
During its production, the Cougar was assembled at the Dearborn Assembly Plant (part of the Ford River Rouge Complex) in Dearborn, Michigan from 1967 until 1973, San Jose Assembly (Milpitas, California) from 1968 into early 1969, Lorain Assembly (Lorain, Ohio) from 1974 until 1997, and at Flat Rock Assembly (Flat Rock, Michigan) from 1999 through 2002.

AFTER RUNNING SOME DIAGNOSTIC TESTS, I WAS TOLD I NEEDED A CATALYIC CONVERTER, REPAIRS OVER $1500.00. I WAS READING THE RECALLS FOR THIS VEHICLE AND CAME ACROSS CAMPAIGN ID# NHTSA 04V421000. THE RECALL WAS FOR CONTAMINATION OF THE FILTER I THE FUEL DELIVERY MODE(FDM) CAN REDUCE AND EVENTUALLY BLOCK, THE FLOW OF FUEL TO THE ENGINE. IN WHICH, CAN CAUSE MANY PROBLEMS. I HAVE THOSE PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE. UPON STARTING, IT REVIVES UP, THEN EVENTUALLY SLOWS DOWN AND ALMOST KILLS. IT SOUNDS AS IF NO GAS IS GETTING TO THE ENGINE. LOSS OF POWER, STALLING. MY QUESTION IS HOW I COULD FIND OUT IF THIS RECALL WAS DONE TO THE VEHICLE. WHERE DO I START. I've been driving my Cougar for three years now and it's been a great ride. I did have a minor issue with the sunroof cables snapping during normal operation in its third year, but thankfully a private mechanic was able to repair it for a reasonable price. Other than that, I haven't had a single problem with the car. It's a joy to drive, comfortable for a sports coupe, and always turns heads with its sleek appearance. The only downside is that other drivers seem to be jealous of its sporty look and often try to race me on the road!

You will feel proud owning this pretty car. It was built with safety features to ensure the driver's comfort and safety. The double lock brakes on all 4 tires make it stop on a dime. It will get you where you need to go on time. I have owned mine since 2009 and paid it off in 2012. I love it! Even after being wrecked, it is still beautiful and durable. Although it has some dents, it still runs well. I hope to put it in a body shop one day. It needs shocks and the seats recushioned, but with shocks, the ride is awesome. It has been a lifesaver for me, getting me to the doctor and hospital when I needed it the most. Unfortunately, it seems to have a problem with the fuel filter or fuel module, and possibly needing a coil. I am thankful for the awakening knowledge and will try to fix it. If I had been notified of the recall, the Ford place of Florence SC would have helped me. I also have a problem with a broken key and no alarm key, and the blinker bulb is out, leaving me with no flashers or signal lights. This is annoying and has left me stranded. My car is a 2001 Mercury Cougar V-6 hatchback racecar engine, loaded with a speedometer that goes up to 160. It is beautiful inside and out. I love my Betsy Boop.

The car is still drivable, but there are a few minor issues that have come up. Firstly, the sunroof is broken and sometimes leaks during rain. Secondly, the driver's side window doesn't always go up. Thirdly, the alternator died a year ago. Lastly, the counter for how many miles you have left is way off and has died twice on me when it said it had 23 miles left. Despite these issues, the car is still functional. However, I am planning to sell it as I would prefer a Ford Mustang.

This car is truly unique. Its driving experience, appearance, and overall design are becoming increasingly rare. Despite having several issues, it offers a superior ride quality compared to modern cars. Even when taking sharp turns, you never feel any harsh pulls. The car glides through effortlessly. Although I didn't get the eight-cylinder, it still had enough power after I installed an intake and chip. It endured many collisions caused by other reckless drivers and always came out with less damage. I will always cherish my memories of it.

Hey there! I wanted to share my experience with this car. While I initially fell in love with its looks, unfortunately, it hasn't been the most reliable. I bought it as a birthday present to myself, but since driving it off the lot a year ago, I've already spent $4000 in repairs. Currently, it's at the garage waiting for another transmission, which is frustrating since I've had it in twice before for the same issue. On top of that, my AC stopped working this past summer, the fan at the radiator stopped working, and the headlights do this dimming thing that just drives me crazy. However, it does have a great radio! It's definitely seen the back of a tow truck more than the road itself. Just wanted to share my experience with you.

Hi there! I'm happy to hear that my car has been very dependable with a little over 60k and no problems. However, I have noticed that the ergonomics leave much to be desired. For example, I can't shift if my passenger is fiddling with the radio, which can be frustrating. Additionally, the steering is quite stiff. I'm not sure who this car is made for since I find the dash too high and the seat too low, while my husband doesn't have enough headroom. In general, I find the seats to be really uncomfortable.

I have experienced multiple issues with this car, including three fuel pump failures and a starter replacement. The car's performance is not up to my expectations of a sports car, as it feels sluggish on take-off. Overall, I am extremely dissatisfied with this car.
