The Mercedes-AMG GT is a series of 2-door grand tourers produced by German automobile manufacturer Mercedes-AMG. On 28 October 2021, Mercedes-Benz announced the new Mercedes-AMG R232 SL-Class as the direct successor for the roadster version. The coupe version will be redesigned on the same platform as the 2023 Mercedes AMG SL, but will retain the name AMG GT.
First generation (C190/R190)
The interior of the Mercedes-AMG GT was previewed on 16 April 2014. The car made its debut on 9 September 2014 and was officially unveiled to the public in October 2014 at the Paris Motor Show. The GT's exterior design was kept similar to that of the preceding SLS AMG, with wide wheel arches, lower bodywork, and fastback sloping roofline of the SLS AMG, but using conventional forward-opening doors instead of the iconic gullwing style pioneered by the 300 SL in the 1950s. It also employed an upgraded and shortened version of the Transaxle Spaceframe platform used by the SLS.
The vehicle structure is made up of 93% aluminium, with the front module base made up of magnesium. The exterior lead designer was Mark Fetherston, whose previous works include the W176 A-Class, the CLA-Class, and SLS AMG. The interior, designed by Jan Kaul, features a large centre console and decorative elements in a leather and carbon polymer design. The trunk offers room for a medium-sized suitcase.
Two engine power output options were offered: the GT, with 340 kW (462 PS; 456 hp), and the GT S with 375 kW (510 PS; 503 hp). The GT generates 600 N⋅m (443 lb⋅ft) of torque, and the GT S generates 650 N⋅m (479 lb⋅ft) of torque.
Shortly after its introduction, Mercedes-AMG CEO at the time, Tobias Moers promised a Black Series variant of the Mercedes-AMG GT. The new high performance variant was called the AMG GT R.

It's amazing how this car continues to surprise and delight even after a year of ownership. If there was ever a car that could combine a track car, muscle car, and grand tourer all in one beautiful package, it's this one. I traded a Ferrari F430 and Shelby GT500, and while each of those cars did their respective party tricks quite nicely, the AMG plays the part of an exotic (without the exotic quirks) and muscle car (while still being able to take a corner) without a hitch. I have a couple of 911's that share garage space with the AMG, and I always choose the AMG if I don't need to tote kids. If I had to choose just one, the AMG would stay and all others would go. The only thing I would change is the lack of a manual option...I understand the reasoning, but sometimes outright speed should take a back seat to outright fun. Overall, there are no disappointments, and I look forward to every mile behind the wheel.

Before I share my thoughts on the AMG GTS, let me give you some context. Over the years, I've had the pleasure of owning some amazing cars, including the Porsche 911 Carrera Techart (997.1), Porsche 911 Carrera (991.2), Porsche 911 GT3 (991), Dodge Viper RT/10, Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder, Audi R8 V10 Manual, Aston Martin Vanquish, Lotus Elise, and Ferrari F12. Now, let's talk about my Solarbeam Yellow AMG GTS. I bought it certified pre-owned from Mercedes when it had only 1,600 miles on it, and I've put over 14,000 miles on it in the three years I've owned it. So far, I haven't had any issues with the engine, body, or transmission. While I don't take it to the track, I do enjoy driving it on back roads. The seats are incredibly comfortable, which makes for a smooth ride. I keep it in Sport Plus mode (with the suspension set to Comfort) because I love the crackles on downshifts, but I also don't want to feel like I'm getting a kidney punch. The drive is fantastic, whether I'm using the automatic or paddle settings. While the paddles shift a bit slower than my GT3 or F12, it's not enough to make me dislike the car. The handling is surprisingly good for a car with a heavy nose, and the acceleration and braking are both excellent (I have the steel brakes). The only downsides are the rather large A-pillars and side view mirror, which create blind spots at 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock, but you learn to live with them. The design of the car is breathtaking, especially in Solarbeam Yellow. It's one of the most beautiful cars I've ever owned. Recently, I was offered a build slot for the new Porsche GT3, but after some consideration, I decided to keep my AMG GTS for a few more years.

I ordered my 2018 AMG GTC (Magnetite Black Metallic with Beige Interior) convertible in early December 2017 and took delivery in mid June 2018. After putting on 1,500 miles in four months, I can only say WOW! This car handles like a dream and is so much fun to drive. I traded in our 2015 MB SL400 with only 16,000 miles, a car that my wife and I both hated to drive. The 2018 AMG GTC changed all of that, everything! The hydraulic steering is remarkable, the shift points in Sport mode are precise, acceleration is phenomenal and braking pedal modulation is smooth. This car gives such a tremendous road feel and command while also being surprisingly smooth and comfortable. I noticed that Edmunds recommends saving the extra money by opting for the GT version over the GTC but I would disagree with that. The agility of the rear wheel steering is something amazing and you have to experience that first hand--it makes the car feel smaller than it is. Under 62 mph, the rear wheels turn in the opposite direction as the front, making cornering on winding roads an incredible experience--there's absolutely no under-steer or over-steer--the car is amazingly neutral and feels more agile than the SL versions that we have been used to. All of the body vents are functional on the GTC version and the rear axle slip differential is electronic rather than mechanical. I expect to own the car for many, many years and can justify (rationalize) the higher GTC price...somewhat.The car's build quality is exceptional and it looks great too! The driving experience is beyond description and beats all the other cars we've owned, including several MB's and BMW's. We used to love our 2001 BMW Z3, which we thought of as a motorcycle with two seats, but the AMG GTC is even more fun to drive. On a scale of 1-10, it's a 20!

The car is incredibly fast and handles like a supercar should. Although the ride is quite stiff, it is expected for a race car. It is different from other Mercedes models. Due to the low seating position and being right in front of the rear wheels, the road noise can be quite loud. On tar and gravel roads, the noise can be so loud that it becomes difficult to carry on a conversation. However, the interstate road noise is not much louder than the SL. It is important to remember that this car is more of a race car than a luxury car, but it still has the MB luxury. It is loaded with everything I was looking for. If you put the pedal to the metal, be prepared for a thrilling ride. Additionally, it looks great!

You've had quite a few cars, including 5 Porsche 911's, a Panamera, and 5 other Benz' including another AMG. I must say, this car is the real deal when compared to a 911. The acceleration is phenomenal, and the steering (full hydraulic) outdoes any Carrera you've owned. The handling is superb with tremendous cornering and grip and very little understeer. The interior design and material quality are fabulous, and quite frankly, I think it is one of the sexiest cars on the road today, far better looking than a 911 in my opinion. The sound system is great, and that exhaust note is glorious. However, there are some downsides. The seats, while very functional, are not very comfortable, and the cabin tech is a little sparse. There is no head-up display or even remote start. The DCT is not as good as PDK, but it's close, and I think it shifts faster. I know a lot has been said about the location of the gear shifter, but who cares? You use it to put it in gear, and that's it. This is quite an achievement for Mercedes Benz, and you are more than thrilled.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share a quick update on my car situation. Unfortunately, my car has been in the shop for 21 days now and they still haven't been able to figure out how to fix it. It's frustrating, especially since my car has less than 1000 miles on it. The engine light has been on since I got the car and they're saying that the engine has been misfiring. I'm currently in the process of turning my car back in through the legal system. I just wanted to give you a heads up about the engine light - it's not just a simple gas cap issue. Take care!

Very nice but.....The seat padding is beneath Mercedes Benz. Also, I didn't like the spare tire fix being a can of fix-a-flat. Additionally, the annual maintenance (oil change) seems to cost around $1600 per year. Also, the rear hatchback is not big enough to fit golf clubs.

If you're looking for a car that performs well both on and off the track, you won't be disappointed with this one. It's definitely a fast car, although the Corvette Z06 is faster and costs $50,000 less. However, there are some downsides to the GTS. The ride is very firm, even in Comfort mode, and the Sport and Race modes are strictly for the track. They can be uncomfortable on the road. Additionally, the GTS is missing some features that the Corvette has, such as a Heads Up Display, Run Flat Tires, and a Touch Screen Interface. The GTS has a mouse and click wheel, which is outdated technology. Entering a navigation destination is slow and cumbersome, and the interior design and quality are not as good as the Corvette's. The GTS console has no room for anything, and the buttons seem to have been placed at random. The dash is made of Mb Tex (vinyl) instead of Napa leather like the seats and doors. Within a week, the foam was separating from the leather on the driver's seat of the GTS, creating a ridge and indent that will have to be replaced. Despite these drawbacks, the GTS is still a good car, and it's up to you to decide if the features it does have are worth the price.The C7 seats are wider, more comfortable, and adjustable, with a memory function located on the door. In comparison, the GTS has its memory function on the side of the seat and the passenger seat has fewer functions. The C7 also offers generous storage space with a net to keep things from sliding around, while the GTS has about 1/3 of the space and no net. Although both cars are great, I personally prefer the C7 as it is almost trouble-free and offers a better driving experience. This is my 5th Corvette and I have found them to be more reliable than other cars I have owned. While the GTS is a great car, the buyer had some issues with paint flaws and overspray, and the dealers are reporting slow sales. Overall, the C7 is a fantastic choice that offers great value for money and a wonderful driving experience.
