The Mazdaspeed3 is a sport compact hatchback introduced for the 2007 model year by Mazdaspeed and produced until 2013. The Mazdaspeed3 is a performance-enhanced version of the 5-door Mazda3.
Mazda unveiled the Mazda3 MPS (Mazda Performance Series) at the 2006 Geneva Motor Show in February. The same model is sold in North America as the Mazdaspeed3 and as the Mazdaspeed Axela in Japan. The vehicle is front-wheel drive and powered by a 2.3 litres (2,261 cc) turbocharged inline-four gasoline engine. The Mazdaspeed3 was designed prior to the latest generation of hot hatches, including the Dodge Caliber SRT-4, Ford Focus ST, and the Volkswagen Golf/Rabbit GTI. The engine produces a power output of 263 hp (196 kW) and 280 lb⋅ft (380 N⋅m) of torque. The Mazdaspeed3 also features a limited slip differential.
The Mazdaspeed3 is the company's first hot hatchback since the BG Familia GT-X of the early 1990s.

- Summary: THE PASSENGER HEADLIGHT HAS ACCUMULATED A LOT OF MOISTURE (1/2 CUP OR MORE) WHICH RESULTED IN THE HEADLIGHT MALFUNCTIONING WHILE DRIVING. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS, ESPECIALLY HAD THIS HAPPENED AT NIGHT. THE DEALERSHIP ACKNOWLEDGE ITS A COMMON PROBLEM, SAID IT WAS A SEAL PROBLEM THAT BURNED OUT THE BALLAST, BUT THAT IT WASN'T COVERED BY A WARRANTY OR RECALL. THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM (GOOGLE MAZDA 3 HEADLIGHT MOISTURE AND THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF EXAMPLES) AND NEEDS TO BE RECALLED/FIXED. THE DEALERSHIP WILL QUOTE OVER $1000 TO REPAIR THIS PROBLEM. VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION IN CITY DRIVING. ADDITIONALLY IN A MEMO THEY ACKNOWLEDGE HEAVY AMOUNTS OF WATER SHOULD BE REPLACED BUT BECAUSE ITS NOT A RECALL ANYTHING OVER 3 YEARS WILL NOT BE WARRANTIED (SEE ATTACHED). LASTLY YOU CAN SEE THAT THE HEADLIGHT BULB SEAL HAS AN ACCUMULATED RUST LINE ABOUT HALF WAY UP FROM STANDING WATER IN THE LIGHT THAT RUSTED OUT AND EVENTUALLY BURNED OUT THE BALLAST (ATTACHED).

On the affected vehicles, the lift gate support struts may corrode, possibly causing the struts to break and/or the lift gate to drop unexpectedly.

- Summary: Mazda North American Operations (Mazda) is recalling certain model year 2010-2013 Mazda3 and Mazdaspeed3 vehicles manufactured November 18, 2008, to June 8, 2013, 2012-2015 Mazda5 vehicles manufactured October 26, 2010, to June 22, 2015, 2016 CX-3 vehicles manufactured June 1, 2015, to December 26, 2015, and 2013-2016 CX-5 vehicles manufactured December 15, 2011, to December 26, 2015. On the affected vehicles, the lift gate support struts may corrode, possibly causing the struts to break and/or the lift gate to drop unexpectedly.
- Consequence: If the lift gate falls unexpectedly, it may hit the user, increasing their risk of injury.
- Remedy: Mazda dealers will replace the both lift gate supports, free of charge, however parts are not currently available. The recall began April 2017. Owners may contact Mazda customer service at 1-800-222-5500. Mazda's number for this recall is 9916H.

This is the second Speed3 I have owned, and like the first one, it will be a project car. The overall value of this car is unbeatable. Even though the NAV screen is small, you still have navigation compared to other models. The price is amazing for a small sports car. So far, I have not lost a red light-to-red light race yet against trucks or other cars. What you may not know is that this car is lighter than most, and with 263HP stock, you can beat many people right off the line and keep your edge for the mile-long run. This is a great car, and I will definitely buy another one unless Mazda screws it up (which is doubtful). I have bought three Mazdas in the past year, and all of them have been amazing!

Just recently picked up an 09 in pearl white. I'm absolutely loving it! The fit and finish are top-notch, and the overall quality of the car is fantastic. It's got plenty of power to get me into trouble, and I'm excited to use it as my daily driver as well as a fun autox toy. The LSD in this car works great, and the big brakes make it easy to have the back end come around on hard corners. I can't get enough of it!

Traded in a Mazdaspeed MX5. I was considering an RX8, but the Speed3 made me smile more. It's an outstanding all-around performer and offers great value. It's definitely the best performance car I've ever owned, and maybe even the best car I've ever owned!

I cross-shopped the WRX, Ralliart, and GTI, but none of them offered as much equipment for the money. I've found that third gear is the perfect gear to blast from 35 to 65 mph. Even in Philly where no one moves over (I'm a burgher), simply engage the yellow light gear and go. I was able to maintain a constant 75 mph on the PA turnpike for 300 miles and still got 28 mpg as calculated at the pump. Even in sixth gear, passing other cars was a breeze. The exhaust is very quiet at highway speeds. While the seats are comfortable, they may be too form-fitting if you're anything other than slim to medium weight (I'm 5'10 and 175 on a fat day). Overall, I am very pleased with my purchase.

Hello! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my 2008 Speed 3. I got a great deal on it back in January 09, and it's definitely a great value, just like everyone says. However, I've been considering upgrading lately and have been checking out some dealerships. While the car is fast, I don't feel like the ride and handling quite match up to my previous VR6 Jetta. The torque steer is pretty significant in comparison, and the ride and handling aren't quite up to par. Additionally, as an audio enthusiast, I was disappointed with the Bose sound system. The speakers sounded pretty bad, the bass was bloated, and the system had a noise circuit that made the volume fluctuate uncontrollably. I did end up replacing it, though. Thanks for listening!

I purchased this attractive and powerful turbo in early August, which was my first Mazda. However, within a week, I noticed black carbon buildup on the entire rear of the car, and the exhaust was covered in black soot. Although the engine performance seemed fine, I noticed that even after warming up, black smoke continued to emit. As a gentle driver, I was surprised to see this, as I have owned seven cars in my 24 years of driving and have never experienced this before. When I returned to the dealership to have them look at it, they agreed with my concerns. After diagnostic testing, they confirmed with USA Mazda that the car was operating under normal conditions. Mazda's customer hotline and technical service representatives also confirmed this. At this point, I am considering returning the car, as I would expect this kind of issue from a diesel car, not a petrol one.

I hope you're doing well! I noticed that you purchased the last 2009 model in Charlotte, NC back in January 2010. It's great to hear that you're enjoying the car so far. I can definitely see why you like the looks and power of the car. Although it's a simple car with not many upgrades for the top end line, it's still a great deal that you only paid 23k out the door. It's obviously very quick and fun to drive, but I understand that you don't like the 6 speed as the gears wind too quickly. I'm sure it will grow on you though! Your Mazda has been serviced exclusively by Mazda dealerships and has never been abused, raced, modified, or wrecked. However, it began experiencing issues within 100 miles of the end of the warranty. From 36K to 55K, the rear motor mount began to deteriorate, the steering began clicking and popping, and the BlOSE radio stopped working. Additionally, the engine developed incurable throttle lag, the second gear had issues engaging, and one passenger window and the power lock in the driver's door failed. This is the type of car that can provide both an enjoyable driving experience and practicality for transporting people or items. Depending on the audience, you could describe two completely different cars without being dishonest. For instance, to my mother, it's an adorable vehicle that can carry people with its 60/40 split rear seats and ample cargo space. On the other hand, if I were chatting with a fellow car enthusiast while filling up at the gas station, I might mention the turbo. However, I'm not interested in racing your SRT-4. Regardless, it has a unique charm that makes driving it every day exciting, without the excessive plastic adornments found on other manufacturers' performance models.

My husband bought me this car, and while I love the concept of a small 4-door hatch that's manual and fast, I'm finding it difficult to drive for long periods of time due to the painfully stiff seats. I've only had it for a day, but I'm considering selling it soon because my hips and butt are literally numb from the awful seats.
