2023 Mazda Cx-30 problems
The Mazda CX-30 is a subcompact crossover SUV produced by Mazda. Based on the fourth-generation Mazda3, it debuted at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, to slot in between the CX-3 and the CX-5. It went on sale in Japan on 24 October 2019, with global units being produced at Mazda's Hiroshima factory, North and South American units built in Salamanca, Guanajuato, Mexico, Thailand and initial Australian units made at the AutoAlliance Thailand plant in Rayong, and China-market units produced in Nanjing by Changan Mazda.
Overview
The CX-30 features lightweight construction to improve performance and economy, and is offered in either front-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive.
According to Naohito Saga, the CX-30's program manager, the new model is targeted to drivers who are still single or are married and starting a family in the United States. Mazda chief designer Ryo Yanagisawa said that it will be more acceptable as a family car in Europe and Japan. Saga also noted that Mazda named the vehicle CX-30, to avoid confusion with the China-only CX-4.
The CX-30 was released in the UK in December 2019 and in North America in January 2020. It was launched in the Philippines on 28 November 2019, Malaysia on 15 January 2020, Indonesia on 28 January 2020, and Thailand on 6 March 2020. The 2.5 turbo model was released internationally in February 2021.

Common 2023 Mazda Cx-30 problems
The 2023 Mazda CX-30 has been reported to have several common problems based on complaints from owners. One of the main issues is with the exhaust system, including the muffler, pipes, catalytic converter, exhaust manifold, heat shields, and other components. This can lead to performance issues, increased noise, and potential safety hazards.
Another problem that has been reported is related to the electronic nannies in the car's safety system, which cannot be turned off. This can be frustrating for drivers who prefer a more hands-on approach to driving and can limit the car's performance in certain situations
The 2023 Mazda CX-30 has also been criticized for its poor infotainment user experience. The non-touch infotainment screen, controlled via a knob and buttons, can be frustrating and less useful for looking at sat-nav maps that require bigger screens
. Additionally, the car's Android Auto and Apple CarPlay features were designed to be used with a touchscreen interface, making the non-touch screen even more inconvenient.
Winter driving conditions have also been a concern for some owners of the 2023 Mazda CX-30. Snow can easily build up in front of the headlights due to the chrome trim that extends beneath them, requiring more frequent cleaning to ensure visibility
. The rear window is not particularly large, which can make visibility difficult in certain situations. The whole liftgate can also get dirty quickly, requiring more washer fluid usage. De-icing the windows can be a concern in extremely cold temperatures, as the windshield wipers can freeze up and ice can build up in the lower corners of the glass, requiring the cabin's temperature to be cranked up to deal with it
Some owners have also reported issues with the car's fuel efficiency, with mpg dropping significantly after a short period of ownership. This can be a significant concern for drivers who prioritize fuel efficiency and can lead to increased fuel costs over time.
In summary, the 2023 Mazda CX-30 has several common problems that have been reported by owners, including issues with the exhaust system, electronic nannies, infotainment user experience, winter driving conditions, and fuel efficiency. These issues can impact the car's performance, safety, and overall driving experience.

SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-01-27
- Crash: 1
- VIN: 3MVDMBCM1PM
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: My brakes failed at a stop light. I was waiting at a red light waiting to get on the freeway . Brake was completely pressed, when my car started rolling forward. I kept trying to apply more force to brakes but was unable to stop the vehicle until it rolled into the car in front of me. I then had my car towed to Mazda and was told my accident was a result of human error. Inspection was done and no results were found. If my brakes had failed at any other moment my accident could have been deadly. There is a brake recall for my year make and model but my vin number is not yet apart of that recall. My car was barely a year since purchase I am the first owner .
VISIBILITY/WIPER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-01-13
- VIN: 3MVDMBDMXPM
- Components: VISIBILITY/WIPER
- Summary: The contact owns a 2023 Mazda CX-30. The contact stated while driving at undisclosed speeds in the rain, the driver’s side windshield wiper failed to clear the water on the windshield. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, on several occasions, where it was diagnosed that the wiper blades and wiper arms needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was contacted, and the contact was referred to the local dealer for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-03-20
- VIN: 3MVDMBDY4PM
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: The fuel gauge is non linear and erroneous. It is a safety issue because the level of fuel left is unpredictable and I have run out of gas in unfamiliar areas because of this.
SUSPENSION,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-01-22
- Crash: 1
- VIN: 3MVDMBCM0PM
- Components: SUSPENSION,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: I have been the owner of a 2023 Mazda CX-30 since July 2023. On [XXX], 2023, I received automated warnings on the dashboard and through the Mazda App stating, "ActiveSense system malfunction. ActiveSense advanced safety and driver support system may not operate correctly." The service department at the dealership where I purchased the car explained that the sensors had overheated due to the hot weather. Unfortunately, a similar warning appeared on the dashboard on [XXX], and this time it resulted in damage to the car. On that day at 13:33, while maneuvering into a parking spot in the parking garage with my foot on the brake pedal, the car suddenly and rapidly accelerated and collided with a concrete post. Fortunately, I am unharmed but shaken, and the front of the car sustained damage. Immediately after the incident, I contacted the service department, explained the situation, and requested an emergency service to assess the car. The service department conducted checks on the brakes and suspension, performing a full-circle inspection. Their report stated, "Could not find any evidence to support the customer's claim." The service advisor expressed disbelief in the issue I described, stating he had not heard of such problems before. Contrary to the service advisor's disbelief, records on NHTSA.gov reveal numerous instances of sudden unintended acceleration while pushing on brakes for Mazda CX cars (CX5, CX30, CX50). These instances have occurred and have been reported nationally/across numerous states in the USA. I am urging Mazda to thoroughly investigate all reported complaints, issue recalls for affected cars, and enhance their safety features. As of now, there have been no reported fatalities, and it is crucial for Mazda to take proactive measures in investigating and addressing our claims to prevent any potential harm caused by errors in the ActiveSense system. LANE DEPARTURE,BACK OVER PREVENTION PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-09-01
- VIN: 3MVDMBCM0PM
- Components: LANE DEPARTURE,BACK OVER PREVENTION
- Summary: Blind spot monitoring started going off almost constantly on driver side after about a month later the rear cross traffic warning stopped working I took the vehicle to the dealer and nothing was replaced or corrected problem persist.
VISIBILITY/WIPER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-07-15
- VIN: 3MVDMBDY7PM
- Components: VISIBILITY/WIPER
- Summary: Immediately after leasing my vehicle (2023 Mazda CX 30 Turbo) & leaving the dealer (no test drive), I noticed the windshield had a distorted view to it with a wavy/orange peel look covering the entire windshield. When looking at the cars in front of you, road signs, road lines, buildings they all had a orange peel/wavy distorted look to them. After 20 minutes of driving it starts to make you feel dizzy, sick, distorts vision & is very annoying. I went online & found a TSB from Mazda for the 20-22 models for the same problem. I reported my windshield to the dealership who verified, took photos & replaced the windshield through Mazda warranty. HOWEVER, the second windshield is worse than the first. The dealer really didn't know what to say so I have given up. The car is brand new and the driving back & forth to the dealer (in another city) in the first month has put way too many miles & took a lot of time (I was there 3 weekends in August for this issue). I did more investigating & have found many Mazda CX 30 Turbo owners with the exact same complaint, some have had the windshield replaced multiple times & still have the same issue (which is why I don't want to go through the aggravation of getting another one done just to end up with the same/worse situation like I'm in now with the new one). A quick google search & you will find many complaints. There is obviously something wrong with the glass Mazda is using for the CX 30 models. I had a CX 5 loaner from the dealer & it was fine. I now only drive my new car basically to work & home. 20 minutes in and you start to feel dizzy, which is not a good feeling. I hope someone can look into this further so I & other CX 30 owners can get a permanent solution for this or the next 3 years are going to be miserable. The car is brand new & I hate driving it.
SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-04-24
- Crash: 1
- VIN: 3MVDMBDY8PM
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: This is already related to Mazda's recall #23V-275 BRAKE PEDAL TRAVEL CONCERN. My car was already involved in crash which I firmly believe that it was related to the brake pedal issue since the brakes didn't hold off the car and the brake assist system was never activated during the accident. Mazda is claiming that my ABS system serial number is a good part, and their dealership claimed that the problem couldn't be reproduced after they held the car for 11 days! I made several attempts to contact Mazda USA but I am not getting tractions for weeks.
BACK OVER PREVENTION,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-06-21
- VIN: 3MVDMBCM2PM
- Components: BACK OVER PREVENTION,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: I'm reporting significant safety issues. All are related as they indicate that the error rejection for the sensors are not properly calibrated. These false positive errors are dangerous. It affects the automatic emergency braking, forward collision, blind spot, and cross traffic warning systems. 1. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The sensor responsible for detecting road impediments and cross-traffic/blindspots. I'm not sure how to provide it for inspection. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? YES - when safety systems frequently have false positive indicators (auditory and visual). This has caused the car and driver to respond to a threat that is not real. This can also cause ignoring true positive indicators (alarm fatigue) and uncertainty of the systems ability to respond to true negative events. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? No, but they are incompetent. I was told the issues might be: bugs on the sensor, maybe a plastic bag floated by the car, maybe the road was shiny, maybe there was something and I didn't see it. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Not to my knowledge. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No, this is a brand new vehicle (2023) and we are the only drivers. These issues have been happening since we started the lease. The cross/blind spot false positive happen daily. The braking/front end collision have only happened ~4 times.
VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-05-06
- VIN: 3MVDMBAM8PM
- Components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: It happened twice already when I step on the break pedal the car goes accelerated feels like you step on the gas pedal that is the problem the first incident I stopped and parked next to the gate because I need to put the code of the gate to open then when I come back to my car and step on the break to release the transmission from P parking ️ then the car goes accelerate too fast almost hit the gate good thing I release the break pedal then hit again or step again the break pedal. The second time I was with my wife she’s parking backward then the car goes accelerated backward. She just stepped on the break pedal. And if we’re driving in the freeway if we break it didn’t stop right away it will still slide for how many meters
SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-03-30
- VIN: 3MVDMBCM5PM
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: I was driving my car on the highway. The car automatically deployed the emergency braking system with no objects in front of the car. The car automatically braked then flashed the brake warning indicator. Car mad itself come to a complete stop. I began researching and found that others have had issues with “phantom braking” when the car has collision avoidance technology. This needs to be seriously investigated as it is a safety hazard.

I test drove one and it was comfortable and really nice looking in and out. More like a luxury car than a standard SUV. The turbo engine has a lot of pep and is fun to drive. However, I noticed that there were some significant issues with the field of vision. The rear blind spots and rather short side windows give you a poor side view.

The Mazda CX30 is such a fun and spiffy car to drive! It has a smooth ride, great pick up, and is loaded with technology and safety features.

This small SUV is really enjoyable to drive. It has a solid feel to it, almost like a mini-coupe. I absolutely love it!

The Taos should have been a driver's car with the comfort, style, and tech appointments found on more expensive cars. That's what it should have been!

I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to share my experience with my CX-30 GS that I purchased at the beginning of the year. It's been such a blast to drive and the handling is fantastic! The only issue I had was that the dealership delivered my vehicle with slightly overinflated tires, which made the ride a bit harder than it needed to be. Luckily, it was an easy fix and I was able to bring the pressures down from 40psi to the manufacturer's recommended level of 36psi.

I had the pleasure of driving this car for a few days while my own was in the shop. As an owner of a 2011 Rav4, I was able to make a good comparison. I must say, the seats were incredibly comfortable, much more so than my Rav. The car also had many safety features built in, and the backup camera worked like a charm. It was especially helpful in navigating the blind spots. The ride was very smooth, although the steering and acceleration were a bit sluggish. While it may not be the most exciting car to drive around town, it would be perfect for long trips. The car's good looks are definitely a plus, but it's more of a cruiser than a

Yes, the car looks good and handles well. However, I found the seats to be hard and narrow, which made it very uncomfortable to sit in. Even though I only weigh 135 lbs, my behind barely fit. Additionally, the car is quite loud and you feel every bump in the road. Unfortunately, the gas mileage was disappointing for a new economy vehicle. I was told it was comparable to a Corolla, but I did not find that to be the case.
Kaley Hane 2024-01-18
Although the trunk space was disappointing, the car was nicely designed. It may not be the most practical option for running errands.
