In 2006 (for the 2007 model year), the fourth generation LS 460 debuted the first production eight-speed automatic transmission and an automatic parking system. In 2007, V8 hybrid powertrains were introduced on the LS 600h/LS 600h L sedans.
Development of the LS began in 1983 as the F1 project, the code name for a secret flagship sedan. At the time, Toyota's two existing flagship models were the Crown and Century models – both of which catered exclusively for the Japanese market and had little global appeal that could compete with international luxury brands such as Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Jaguar. The resulting sedan followed an extended five-year design process at a cost of over US$1 billion, and premiered with a new V8 engine and numerous luxury features. The Lexus LS was intended from its inception for export markets, and the Lexus division was formed to market and service the vehicle internationally. The original LS 400 debuted to strong sales, and was largely responsible for the successful launch of the Lexus marque.
Since the start of production, each generation of the Lexus LS has been manufactured in the Japanese city of Tahara, Aichi. The name "LS" stands for "Luxury Sedan", although some Lexus importers have preferred to define it as "Luxury Saloon". The name "Celsior" is taken from Latin word "celsus", meaning "lofty" or "elevated".

- Summary: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain model year 2007-2010 Lexus LS vehicles manufactured May 9, 2006, to July 20, 2010, 2006-2011 Lexus GS vehicles manufactured January 6, 2005, to September 10, 2010, and 2006-2011 Lexus IS vehicles manufactured August 30, 2005, to September 10, 2010. Due to anti-corrosion plating remnants, fuel may leak from where the fuel pressure sensor is attached to the fuel delivery pipe.
- Consequence: A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire.
- Remedy: Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will clean and reseal the fuel pressure sensor mounting area, free of charge. The recall began March 3, 2015. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331.

While German cars may outperform the Lexus, they tend to spend more time in the shop and lose value more quickly. In fact, I know someone who owns a Lexus with over 400k miles and it still runs smoothly without any oil leaks! I have owned 5 Lexus cars in my lifetime. The first one was a 1990 model, and the best one I had was the last model of the 430. However, I have noticed a few flaws in the new model. Firstly, the seat comfort is not as good as the previous models. Secondly, the rear view window is not large enough, which affects the visibility. Thirdly, the trunk is smaller due to the larger indented wheel wells, resulting in a loss of space. Lastly, the design doesn't feel as distinctive or luxurious as it should, instead, it feels like a 'pregnant Camry'.

You can even change the driving mode to Normal, Comfort, or Sport, which makes it so much fun.

The Lexus LS460 has had some issues since I purchased it, including starter replacement costing $800.00, ABS failure costing $3,000.00, and radiator replacement costing $450.00. Although I have not yet experienced the water pump issue, I have encountered the same problems as many other consumers, such as sudden deceleration while driving. I have made an appointment with the Lexus dealer to address this issue. Despite these challenges, I still find the car to be beautiful.

I recently purchased an 11-year-old car with 121k miles on it. Although I got it for a great price of $11,000, I did encounter some issues. The brake actuator, which is a part of the ABS system, makes a loud noise every time I press the pedal. Unfortunately, this is a common issue with Toyota cars and should have been recalled. The part costs $3000 to replace, which is quite expensive. Additionally, as the car has aged, some road noises have become more noticeable. Japanese cars are known for their reliable engines and transmissions, although the LS has had some issues and problems. As some others have mentioned, there is a major wind noise issue that cannot be fixed, despite upgrades from the dealer. However, it is important to note that this issue is due to a design flaw and not a lack of effort from the manufacturer. Additionally, the LS has some other noise issues that tend to arise after it passes 50k miles, but this is a common issue with earlier LS models.
