Lexus Gs problems
The Lexus GS (Japanese: レクサス・GS, Rekusasu GS) is an executive car (E-segment in Europe) manufactured and marketed by Lexus across four generations — launched in 1991 as the Toyota Aristo in Japan and as the Lexus GS for markets outside the JDM beginning in February 1993. It continued with the Toyota Aristo name for the Japanese market until January 2005.
Lexus marketed the GS as a performance sedan competing in the mid-luxury class, between its compact executive IS and large/flagship LS. The GS shared its chassis with one of Toyota's longest-running nameplates, the Toyota Crown premium sedans until 2011.
The GS featured six-cylinder engines and rear-wheel drive, with a V8 engines offered forall generations, and all-wheel drive and hybrid versions debuted in 2005. Previously, all-wheel drive versions were already made available in the Japanese-market S140 series Aristo. The first two generations had a Japanese domestic market equivalent, the Toyota Aristo (aristo is Greek for "the best"), which was sold from 1991 until the Lexus marque's domestic debut in 2005. Though largely identical in exterior and interior design, the GS and the Aristo differed in their engine and transmission combinations as well as equipment packages. The GS name stands for Grand Sedan. However, some Lexus importers use the backronymic name, Grand Sport.
The first generation Lexus GS began sales in the United States, Europe and selected Asian markets in 1993. It was originally introduced with an inline-six engine and exterior bodywork designed by Italdesign Giugiaro. The second generation model premiered in 1997, using a new platform, in-house styling, and adding a V8 version for the first time outside Japan. The third generation GS, which premiered globally for the 2006 model year, was produced in V6, V8, and hybrid versions, the latter known as the GS 450h. The third generation models were the first GS sedans to be badged as such in the Japanese domestic market.
The fourth generation Lexus GS premiered in August 2011 at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, where models introduced included the V6-powered GS 350, hybrid GS 450h, and performance-tuned F Sport variants. A lower-displacement V6 model, the GS 250, premiered at the Auto Guangzhou Exhibition in November 2011, targeted at Asian and European markets. In some markets such as North America and Asia, the GS shares the mid-size sedan category in the Lexus lineup with the front-wheel drive ES, serving as its rear-wheel-drive counterpart.
The GS was replaced in Europe by the Lexus ES from December 2018. The seventh generation ES is the first to be sold in Europe, replacing the GS in spite of being a front-wheel drive car. It went on sale from September 2018 in Russia, Turkey and other CIS markets and from December 2018 in Western and Central Europe. Production ended in August 2020.

Common Lexus Gs problems
The Lexus GS350 is a luxury sedan known for its reliability, but like any vehicle, it can experience certain common problems. One issue that has affected some first-generation models is a cracked dashboard due to heat exposure. This problem is primarily caused by exposure to high temperatures and can lead to a cosmetic issue, potentially reducing the car's resale value. To prevent this issue, parking the car in a shaded area or using a sunshade can help.
Another problem that has affected some first-generation models is issues with the air conditioning system. Some owners have reported that their air conditioning would stop working or blow warm air instead of cool air. This issue can be caused by a faulty compressor or refrigerant leak and requires a professional diagnosis and repair.
First-generation models also experienced problems with their fuel systems. Some owners reported that their car would stall or hesitate during acceleration, which can be caused by a faulty fuel pump or fuel filter. Regular maintenance of the fuel system can help prevent these issues and ensure the car runs smoothly.
The second-generation Lexus GS350, produced from 2013 to 2019, had several common issues reported by owners. One of the most common problems was excessive oil consumption, affecting models with the 2GR-FSE engine. This issue can cause the engine to burn oil faster than usual, leading to potential engine damage if not addressed. Regular oil changes and monitoring the engine's oil level can help prevent this issue.
Another common problem with the second-generation GS350 is issues with the infotainment system. Some owners have reported problems with the touch screen display, such as freezing or failing to respond. This issue can be caused by a software glitch and may require updating the system software to prevent.
The third-generation Lexus GS350, produced since 2020, has not yet had many reported common issues from owners. However, some early models have had issues with the infotainment system, specifically the touch screen display. Some owners have reported that the screen would freeze or fail to respond, which can be caused by a software glitch. Updating the system software can help prevent this issue and ensure the system runs smoothly.
Another issue reported by some owners of third-generation models is a problem with the transmission. Some owners have reported that their car would hesitate or jerk during acceleration, which can be caused by a faulty transmission control module. This issue may require a professional diagnosis and repair.
Some owners have also reported issues with the car's adaptive cruise control system. Some have experienced issues with the system failing to activate or not properly adjusting the car's speed. This issue may be caused by a software glitch and may require updating the system software.
Finally, some owners have reported issues with their car's fuel economy. Some have reported lower fuel efficiency than expected, which can be caused by a number of factors, including driving habits, road conditions, and the car's maintenance history. Regular maintenance and prompt repairs can help prevent many of these issues and ensure the car runs smoothly for many years.

- Date Complaint: 2024-09-16
- VIN: JTHBE1BL7E5
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: The component issue is the dashboard. The dashboard has deteriorated and melted to a sticky, shiny tar with a major shine that is causing a glare and potential blind spot will driving. Lexus Gs 2016
- Date Of Incident: 2023-12-10
- Date Complaint: 2023-12-21
- VIN: JTHCZ1BL9GA
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: In October 2019 my engine upon start made a knocking/rattling sound. The engine noise continued even after the car was warm. The vacuum pump was diagnosed by the dealership and it was repaired under the manufacturer's warranty. From my understanding, the failure of the vacuum pump could cause the brakes to not respond. In December 2023 the vacuum pump displayed the same knocking/rattling sounds and the dealer diagnosed the vacuum pump as requiring replacement. No warning lamps, messages or other symptoms, other than the noise.
Lexus Gs 2017
- Date Of Incident: 2023-12-17
- Date Complaint: 2023-12-19
- VIN: JTHBZ1BL1HA
- Components: STEERING,LANE DEPARTURE
- Summary: The system which has intermittent failure on my 2017 Lexus GS350 is the lane keeping assistance safety option. The system seems to work almost perfectly on straight highways. But highways with curves seem to fail at about a 50% rate and human intervention is quickly required. The car is available for inspection and demonstration of the system failure on a nearby winding road. My safety and my wife's safety were put at risk when I realized that my car was heading for a curb and not making ANY correction. I have not taken it to a dealer or any other kind of diagnostic facility. It has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance company or anyone else. The system only has an amber warning on the dash when it detects no human inputs to the steering wheel or (I think) pressure on the steering wheel rim. There is also a dash warning when the system detects left/right lane marking swerves and it flashes "Stop for a Rest". I bought the car as a Lexus Certified Used Car just after hurricane Ian here in southwest Florida after my previous Lexus got flooded. Early on I noticed the lane departure and the lane assist on some rare instances did not respond properly. Since the car did not come with any owner manuals I could not determine whether I had not set the systems properly or not. And since the hurricane, I have not traveled long distances frequently with the car to determine a failure pattern. My son has a Lexus with similar features too but does not trust them. He said to have the dealer disable them.

Fortunately this happened in a mostly vacant parking lot. This car has a lot of horsepower and those horses went crazy. I answered a question on how fast I was going?
