The Land Rover Range Rover (L322), generally shortened to Range Rover, is the third-generation Range Rover model from British car maker Land Rover and was originally developed under the codename 'L30'.

The L322 was introduced in 2001 and had a production run of over ten years. Planned and developed under BMW ownership, the vehicle was intended to share components and systems (electronics, core power units etc.) with the E38 7 Series. However, BMW sold Land Rover to Ford two years before the L322 went into production.

In the UK and many other territories, ascending trim levels were initially marketed as "SE", "HSE" and "Vogue". Various other trims such as "Vogue SE", "Westminster", "Autobiography" and special editions were subsequently produced.

In his Sunday Times column, Jeremy Clarkson once went on record to state that he owned a Range Rover TDV8 Vogue and it was "the best car in the world and best 4x4." As of 2023, he still owns and operates a car matching this description, and it primarily serves on his farm in Chipping Norton.

The L322's successor, the L405, was announced in August 2012 and unveiled the same year at the Paris Motor Show.

Common 2007 Land rover Range rover l322 problems

The Land Rover Range Rover L322, produced between 2002 and 2012, is known for several common problems that can affect its performance and reliability. Here are some of the most frequently reported issues

  • Air Suspension Failure: The L322's air suspension system is one of its most praised features, providing superior ride quality and off-road ability. However, it can also be a source of trouble. When the air suspension fails, a "SUSPENSION INACTIVE" message may appear on the dashboard display, and the suspension may raise very slowly or not at all. The driving mode may also be restricted to standard ride mode, and the car may enter "limp home mode." This issue can be challenging to diagnose, and it may be caused by various factors, such as damaged air springs, leaking air lines, or a malfunctioning compressor.
  • Fuel Gauge Reading Incorrectly: Some L322 owners have reported issues with the fuel gauge reading incorrectly, which can be caused by faulty fuel level sensors or wiring. This problem can lead to inaccurate fuel level readings, which can be inconvenient and potentially dangerous if the driver runs out of fuel unexpectedly.
  • Brake Disc and Pad Wear: The L322's heavy weight can put a lot of strain on the braking system, leading to premature wear of the brake discs and pads. It is recommended to check the brake disc and pad life regularly and replace them as needed to ensure safe and reliable braking performance.
  • Rear Suspension Hub Bushes: The L322's rear suspension hub bushes can wear out, causing a clonking noise over bumps. This issue can be diagnosed by checking for signs of wear and replacing the bushes as needed to ensure safe and reliable suspension performance.
  • Electrical Faults: The L322 can suffer from various electrical faults, such as false warning lights, bings, and bongs. These issues can be caused by various factors, such as software glitches, faulty sensors, or wiring problems. Switching the engine off and on again can sometimes solve the problem, but if not, the fault may be more serious and require professional diagnosis and repair.

These are some of the most common problems reported by Land Rover Range Rover L322 owners. If you are considering buying an L322, it is essential to be aware of these issues and to check the car's service history and condition thoroughly before making a purchase. Regular maintenance and servicing can also help prevent these problems from occurring or becoming more severe.
