The Kia K5, formerly known as the Kia Optima (Korean: 기아 옵티마), is a mid-size car manufactured by Kia since 2000 and marketed globally through various nameplates. First generation (MS; 2000)
From 2000–2005, Optimas were a rebadged variant of the Hyundai Sonata, differing from the Sonata only in minor exterior styling details and equipment content. It was first shown in South Korea in July 2000 and was the first product of the Kia-Hyundai platform integration plan.
In Australia, the Optima was introduced in May 2001, offered only with a 2.5 L V6 engine, and choice of manual or automatic transmission. The updated Optima was offered with a new 2.7 L engine, 4-speed automatic (the manual was dropped), and features such as full leather interior and alloy wheels were made standard. Thanks in part to better marketing, sales increased to 41,289 units in 2005, an all-time high. The Optima was sold until 2006, when it was replaced by the Magentis.

- Summary: TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 KIA OPTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE DOOR FAILED TO UNLOCK. THE CONTACT STATED THAT IN ORDER TO GET INSIDE THE VEHICLE, HE HAD TO CLIMB OVER TO THE DRIVER SIDE. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE "AIR BAG" WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED CONTINUOUSLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC AND THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO LOCATE A SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000.

Hi there! I just wanted to share that this is actually my second KIA. My first one was a 2000 Sephia and I loved how dependable it was, which is why I decided to go back for another. My Sephia had 138,000 miles on it and was only 2 1/2 years old! When I saw the Optima 2003, I really liked its style and I have been enjoying driving it so far. I did have a simple problem, but the dealer will be correcting it for me. I am really hoping to get the same reliable transportation with this car, and if I do, I will definitely be buying another KIA in 3 years!

For the money you spend, it's definitely worth it. I got an LX, 4 cyl auto for 13.5K out the door and it's a real deal for a car this good. I'm still loving it after 5k miles.

We purchased our 2003 Optima shortly after getting married. Although we weren't specifically looking for a Kia, we were drawn to it because of the superior options and affordable price, thanks to the rebates Kia was offering at the time. While we have enjoyed owning the car for the past 7 years, we have decided to upgrade and unfortunately won't be purchasing another Kia. Here's why: Although the car has been super reliable, we have experienced some cons such as terrible depreciation - we paid $18,000 for the car and today it's worth only about $3,500 if we're lucky. Additionally, the belt squeals nonstop and the dealers have been unable to figure out the problem. We have also had transmission troubles that the dealer has been unable to fix. Despite these issues, we have only had a fuel system problem at 30,000 miles and a door problem at 120,000 miles. Overall, we have enjoyed owning the car and appreciate its reliability.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with the Kia Optima SE V6. After looking at several options, including the Olds Alero, Toyota Camry, Ford Taurus, and many others, I found that the Kia Optima was the best choice for me. Not only was it more affordable, but it also came with great features and a fantastic warranty. I also really liked the sleek exterior design. It's been four months and 7,000 miles since I purchased the car, and I'm still very happy with my decision. My goal is to keep this car running past its warranty, and I'm confident that I can do it. Overall, I think the Kia Optima is a great car for the money.

This car is supposed to have great gas mileage, but I've found that the manufacturer should be required by law to state the actual mileage. Despite this, the car has a great exterior appearance. However, I have noticed several rattles on the interior that are quite annoying.

The car has been a reliable car. At 60k, please remember to have your timing belt replaced as I didn't and could have had major expenses, but fortunately no bent valves. Battery out at 65k miles. New tires at 55k miles. That's it and now at 83,000 miles. The power locks on the doors stink big time and the drive window sticks.. Trunk auto popup is gone.

I had some issues with the AC and attempted to have the door locks fixed multiple times, but unfortunately, the problem could not be identified. In my opinion, Kia's assistance was not very helpful, as it appears that all work must be carried out exclusively at Kia dealerships. As a result, I have decided to only purchase American-made vehicles. Although I have previously owned VW and Toyota, I believe that American-made cars are the best choice for me.
