The Kia Forte, known as the K3 in Asia, the Forte K3 or Shuma in China and Cerato in South America, Australia, New Zealand and Russia, is a compact car manufactured by South Korean automaker Kia since mid-2008, replacing the Kia Spectra. It is available in two-door coupe, four-door sedan, five-door hatchback variants. It is not available in Europe, where the similar sized Kia Ceed is offered (except for Russia and Ukraine, where the Ceed and the Forte are both available).

First generation (TD; 2008)
The first generation Forte was introduced in 2008. In North America, the Forte replaced the Kia Spectra, while the Forte retained the Cerato name in numerous markets. It shares the same platform as the Hyundai Avante/Elantra (HD), though employing a torsion-beam rear suspension in place of the Elantra's multilink design. Kia has stated that the Forte was specifically designed to target younger buyers attracted to sharper auto designs.
Succeeding the first generation Cerato or second generation Spectra, several elements of the interior and suspension were changed. The car received a wider (4 cm) and longer (3 cm) body, a longer (4 cm) wheelbase and a wider (7 cm) gauge. However, ground clearance was reduced by a centimeter, thereby reducing the height by a centimeter. At the same time, the design of the rear suspension was simplified, which instead of independent multilink thrust became semi-dependent double-lever, with an elastic beam, which made it more reliable and easy to repair and maintain.
Three body styles, which are compact 4-door sedan, 5-door hatchback, and a new 2-door coupe body style was introduced.

The owner of the vehicle first observed oil consumption at 90k miles oil change. Dealership performed oil consumption test, measured 0.5qt oil burned in 1k miles. At 95k mile oil change, owner requested to record oil consumption, but dealership did not measure it. At 99k miles, owner again requested to record oil consumption, and dealership measured 1.5qt oil burned in 3k miles (0.5qt / 1k miles). After 99k miles, owner began topping off oil every time the oil was measured to be 1qt low. Measured adding 1qt every ~2k miles. Oil change performed at 105k miles with no additional notes. At 108k miles, dealership began second oil consumption test, and measured 1.5qt oil burned in 1k miles (3x increase in oil consumption from 99k miles to 109k miles). Dealership recommending "Hail Mary" attempt to break up carbon build up in cylinders or recommending engine replacement. Manufacturer and Dealership claim that even though the problem began while under warranty, it only became "bad enough" after warranty ended, so the owner must cover all costs himself.

- Summary: I have 2 complaints with my Kia Forte. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Yes it can be inspected. 1st complaint-The component or system that malfunctioned was the brakes, possibly caused from the entire braking system, the electronic parking brake software and any damaged intermediate shafts. The problem is like the Telluride SUV KIA. 2nd complaint is an intermittent burning smell mostly in the rear area after I get out of the car to park in the garage for the night. It does not occur all the time. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? After I was outside of the parked car on a level road, I saw my car rolling. I had to open the door and jump in to pull the emergency brake on with it moving. I was not able to get my left leg into the car with it moving so my left leg was dragging outside on the rough pavement and ruined my brand new shoes and hurt my left leg and big toe. I was shook up. Ever since, I always pull on my emergency brake when parked. 2nd issue- I am not sure of the safety issue with the burning smell. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? No Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No, I did not know what to do. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No warning and no symptoms prior to the issues. The 1st issue with the brakes occurred this past Dec. 2023 and was then only occurrence. The 2nd issue has occurred several intermittent times in the past 2 years with the burning smell.

- Summary: Experienced temporary loss of electronic power steering (EPS) on 10FEB24. After driving about 15 miles returning from across town, my wife experienced a momentary loss of the EPS while slowing to make a left turn into our subdivision. She was able to wrestle the wheel through the turn with difficulty but then stopped the car to decide whether she should keep driving. After just a moment, she decided to try and when she pulled forward found that the power steering was working again. She made two more left turns over the two blocks to our house and had no trouble. She doesn't recall any dashboard warning lights coming on but was too flustered to have really noticed. I verified the drive belt looks fine and there are no saved fault codes. The car has about 116k miles on it and the drive belt was changed at 110k miles. Car was inspected two days later by my local repair shop including the suspension system. No fault codes or other anomalies were found and they could not duplicate a problem with the EPS.

It was taken to the mechanic and an ignition coil was replaced. A month later on the highway, the car began the same process but with no engine light coming on. It was again taken to the mechanic and kept for two weeks with nothing showing on the diagnostic machine. A week after taking it home, the light was on again. Same scenario, of not finding anything wrong with it. The issue began at 100,000 miles. The car is almost paid off and I don't feel comfortable driving it. I have small children and don't feel safe driving around. I have contacted Kia about a possible recall which was denied. It is available for inspection upon request. I'm so disappointed that Kia won't address the issue because I have seen so many reviews saying the same thing. The vehicle is seven years old and has had several recalls already. I will NOT purchase another Kia because of the lack of responsibility and refusal to fix the situation. I believe it's the oil lubrication pump because the reviews stating the same issues are spot on what is happening. The cost of replacing the pump is almost what the car is worth.

However, was informed by mechanic Kia's were known to have oil issues with the oil pump something with foreign particles getting into the pump causing engine failure which was a open recall. In informed the mechanic I had to keep putting oil into it along with coolant, mechanic couldn't find any leaks in radiator, hoses, nor any oil messes on & around engine. I reached out to Kia to discuss that the engine light came on, but the mechanic was unable to find any issue, at that time Kia customer service stated my specific Kia didn't have any open recalls other than the trunk latch. Then 2 weeks later while driving home from work on the interstate, the engine light came on and car started smoking and shut down almost without warning, almost causing a crash on the interstate that could have ended in a tragic situation. Kia continues to give me the run around with a replacement engine on a Kia Forte LX 2.0 MPI engine.

The car's exterior has a high-end look that belies its affordable price. However, it may not be the easiest car to get in and out of for taller or heavier individuals. While there are a few minor complaints, such as occasional confusion in the transmission and some road noise, the car's Bluetooth connectivity can sometimes be unreliable. On the other hand, the car's gas mileage is impressive, reaching up to 50 mpg on two-lane roads. Additionally, the car boasts a spacious trunk for its size, and servicing it is both affordable and hassle-free thanks to the dealership's friendly and supportive staff. Overall, there is little to complain about, as the car is highly reliable and performs well in snowy conditions. While there may be other cars on the market, this car offers excellent value for the money.

10 years ago, I would have never considered purchasing a Kia. However, the brand has come a long way in the past decade. I got my Kia Forte on December 1, 2017. After having it for a month, I can confidently say that I'm impressed. Many people complain about the acceleration, but it is a compact sedan, not a sports car. However, it has adequate power to pass even the sports cars if need be. The interior of the cabin is comfortable and the controls are easily accessible. Surprisingly, the MPG gets 32 combined as promised by Kia, even when I'm feeling heavy-footed. When I'm cruising, sometimes I average 44 MPG. Aside from that, it's a classy looking car. I have absolutely fallen in love with the Kia brand. I will update in a few years to let everyone know if the prospective reliability holds true.

I love this car. It gets about 31mpg and handles really well in the snow, as I have experienced during my second winter with my Kia. The built-in navigation, backup camera, and Sirius radio are all great features. Although the ride can be rough and loud over bumps or in the rain, this car is still a very affordable option.

I recently purchased a 2017 Kia Forte EX and I absolutely love it! From the moment I started the test drive, I knew it was the perfect car for me. The handling is great and it's surprisingly quick for a 4 cylinder. The interior is made of high-quality materials and the controls are easy to use. Even though it's a new car and still needs to be broken in, I've been getting around 30-32mpg with mostly city driving (although I do tend to drive a little fast). The only downside is that the driver's seat isn't electric and there's no auto-dimming mirror, even on the EX model (without the premium plus package). However, these are minor issues and don't detract from the overall value of the car. UPDATE 10/10/18: I've now had the car for about a year and it hasn't given me any problems. The only complaints I have are that the acceleration is poor, which is to be expected for this class of car, and the transmission can feel a bit clunky when shifting up while accelerating. The car is also quite light, so you can feel it swerve in strong winds on the highway. Overall, though, it's been a great car and the maintenance costs have been reasonable. UPDATE 4/10/20: I've had the car for almost 3 years now and have only had one problem with water getting into the taillights, but they were replaced under warranty. The transmission can still be a bit clunky, but the dealership says it's normal and I should just keep driving it until there's a check engine light. Other than that, I've had no issues with the car. UPDATE 10/13/20: Unfortunately, the transmission of the car feels like it's going to fall out whenever I drive it. I've taken it to Kia multiple times, but they say it's normal and because there's no check engine light, they can't do anything about it. I'm going to trade it in for something better as soon as possible.

I have owned my car for over a year now and have noticed a few issues that I would like to address. Firstly, I have noticed that there is a significant amount of wind noise in the interior, which is not ideal. Secondly, the brakes are quite sensitive and can cause some discomfort when coming to a sudden stop. Thirdly, the car lacks power and can struggle when pulling out into traffic. Fourthly, the tires are not suitable for wet conditions and can easily lose traction. Fifthly, the car is not well-suited for snowy conditions and can experience build-up in the wheel wells. Sixthly, the windshield wipers do not clear the whole window and the washer fluid does not spray far enough. Lastly, the heat can be a bit weak on low and too strong on high. Despite these issues, I still enjoy driving my car and am confident that they can be addressed with proper maintenance and care.

I have a 2017 Kia that I purchased new. Despite having only 34500 miles on it, it has been in the shop 5 times for the same problem - a rough engine and engine light. However, during the last visit, the issue could not be replicated, and therefore, a ticket to KIA could not be submitted. As a confident decision, I have decided to pick up the car today and replace it with a different vehicle next week, but definitely not a KIA.

The defroster in this car is not very effective and can actually fog up the windshield at times. It takes a long time to clear the windshield and the windshield washer solution often freezes on contact, making it difficult for the driver to see. The car also has large blind spots in the front and back that can completely hide other cars or pedestrians, making pulling out dangerous. Additionally, the car has slow pick-up, especially when starting on a hill or pulling out in traffic, and the tires tend to spin on wet roads. The headlights do not automatically turn off when the engine turns off, and the only indicator is a small light on the dashboard screen that can be hidden by the steering wheel. It's important to remember that the headlights are not on at dusk, even though the dashboard is lit up. While this car may not be the best fit for an older driver, it has proven to be reliable and runs well. It's worth noting that the windshield freezing up may be due to RainX. Overall, I have had some issues with this car, but it has held its resale value well and with the addition of new, more expensive tires, the traction has improved.
