The Infiniti G Line is a series of compact executive cars manufactured and marketed by Infiniti, a luxury division of Nissan, for the 1991–1996 and 1999–2016 model years — across four generations.

The first two generations of the Infiniti G (P10 and P11) were sedans based on the Nissan Primera. Beginning with its third generation (V35), the Infiniti G have been rebadged versions of the Nissan Skyline line of sedans and coupes that were exported to the United States and Canada. The fourth generation (V36) introduced the hardtop coupe convertible. The Nissan FM platform, used with the third and fourth generations (V35 and V36) of the Infiniti G, also underpins the Nissan 370Z and has shared components with the Infiniti M, Infiniti EX, and Infiniti FX.

Infiniti established a new naming convention beginning with the 2014 model year; all passenger cars are designated by the letter "Q," while sport-utility model names begin with "QX." The Infiniti G was to have been replaced by the Infiniti Q50, but the G37 was revived as the Q40 beginning with the 2015 model year.

Common 1993 Infiniti G20 problems

The Infiniti G20, produced from 1993 to 2002, is known for its quickness, comfort, and cruise control. However, like any vehicle, it has its common problems that owners have reported.

One of the most frequent issues with the first generation of the Infiniti G20 is transmission failure. Some drivers have experienced difficulty shifting, slipping gears, or even complete transmission failure. To prevent this issue, regular maintenance is crucial, such as checking and changing transmission fluid regularly and addressing any issues as soon as they arise.

Another common problem with the first generation of the Infiniti G20 is related to the engine's timing chain. Some drivers have reported a knocking noise caused by the timing chain stretching. To prevent this issue, it is recommended to have the timing chain inspected regularly and replaced as needed.

The Infiniti G20 also experienced problems with its power steering system. Some drivers have reported difficulty turning the wheel or a whining noise when turning. These issues are often caused by a failing power steering pump or low power steering fluid. Regular inspections of the power steering system can help prevent these issues.

Additionally, the first generation of the Infiniti G20 experienced issues with its brakes. Drivers have reported problems such as worn-out brake pads and rotors, squeaking or grinding noises when braking, and even brake failure. Regular inspections of the brake system and prompt replacement of worn-out components can help prevent these issues.

The Infiniti G20 also experienced issues with its suspension system. Drivers have reported issues such as a rough ride, bouncing or swaying when driving, or uneven tire wear. These issues are often caused by worn-out shocks, struts, or control arms. Regular inspections of the suspension system and replacement of worn-out components can help prevent these issues.

Model-specific issues with the Infiniti G20 include suspension problems with the G20t. Drivers have reported that the suspension is too firm, resulting in a harsh ride and discomfort for passengers. This issue is often caused by worn-out shocks or struts, which are a common wear item in any vehicle. Regular inspections and replacement of worn-out suspension components can help prevent this issue.

Another issue that is common with the G20t is related to its transmission. Drivers have reported issues such as hard shifting, slipping gears, and difficulty engaging gears. This issue is often caused by a worn-out clutch or faulty transmission control module. Regular maintenance of the transmission system, including regular fluid changes and inspections, can help prevent this issue.

Some owners have also reported issues related to the engine's variable valve timing (VVT) system. This issue is often characterized by a ticking or rattling noise coming from the engine. This issue is often caused by a failing VVT solenoid, which controls the engine's VVT system. Regular inspections and prompt replacement of worn-out VVT components can help prevent this issue.

Finally, some owners have reported issues related to the vehicle's electrical system. This issue is often characterized by intermittent electrical issues, such as a dead battery, flickering lights, or malfunctioning accessories. This issue is often caused by a failing alternator or battery. Regular inspections and replacement of worn-out electrical components can help prevent this issue.

In summary, the Infiniti G20 has several common problems that owners have reported, including transmission failure, engine timing chain issues, power steering problems, brake issues, suspension problems, and electrical system issues. Regular maintenance and inspections can help prevent these issues and ensure the longevity of the vehicle.
