I've owned the car approximately 8 years and am concerned that this uncontrolled lurching of my car happened 5 weeks after being worked on at the dealership when I had never experienced this problem before. In addition, there is a service recall (it doesn't show in your database, but it is Hyundai Service Campaign 936 [XXX] ) related to the valve gasket literally dumping oil out to the point that it destroys the alternator - it destroyed my AC Compressor, too! That's not the main point of this, but it's relevant in general. I have been attempting to schedule an appointment to get these issues resolved, but all local dealers tell me the recalls have "expired" and refuse to even look at the car. Some legitimately stop answering the phone when I call at this point, it just rings forever. The online tool to make an appointment from the official Hyundai site has you pick a time to bring the car in, but the dealers to not allot any slots to this so none are available to select. I contacted Hyundai Corporate Customer Service to resolve this, and was told I'd need to "continue trying to work with the dealers." It was no help at all. I am trying to fix the issues myself - my car is currently half-assembled in my garage, and I am technically proficient (I hope!), but it seems ridiculous to be denied service for active safety recalls - and keep in mind, I am only trying to do it myself because the dealers refuse to and I don't want to die in a fiery car crash. I shouldn't be forced to do this. Oh, in addition - Hyundai won't reimburse me for the repairs (I bought my own alternator/compressor once work was refused)... because they aren't being done at a dealership! - Summary: In 2015 Hyundai issued service campaign 936 for 2007-2009 Santa Fe valve cover & alternator due to the valve cover leaking & dripping oil onto the alternator, potentially damaging the alternator resulting in the charging system becoming inoperative. My 2007 Santa Fe was repaired under this campaign. Now with less than 30K miles since the repair the same problem exists, the valve cover is leaking oil onto the alternator again. I've contacted my local Hyundai dealer but they refuse to repair the issue under the campaign a 2nd time. The issue was detected by the local dealership during a routine oil change & they advised me that the cost to replace the valve cover gasket & the alternator would be in excess of $1,000.

Driver made a left turn and within two seconds the vehicle started accelerating on its own. Driver’s head and hands bounced off the steering for a brief moment and then returned. Engine could be heard revving continuously in an increasing manner. Nothing on the gas pedal nor was it manually depressed. The pedal felt stuck with no recoil like what is usually felt when ones foot is taken off the accelerator. Driver attempted to depress brakes to maximum capacity but the system would not override the acceleration and the motion the car was travelling. Car continued to pickup speed to about 70 km/hr. Attempted to slightly turn into a side lane. Cars were parked in facing each other position. Driver clipped the first vehicle, then deflected and ran into three other vehicles before becoming wedged. As a result I had the transmission replaced. Moisture may enter the Anti-lock Brake (ABS) Module and result in an electrical short.
- Consequence: An electrical short within the ABS Module may cause an engine compartment fire, even when the car is turned off, increasing the risk of an injury.
- Remedy: Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will install a relay in the vehicle's main junction box to prevent the risk of an ABS short-circuit while the car is turned off, free of charge. The recall began April 2, 2020. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 188.

- Summary: Hyundai Motor Company (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2006-2009 Accent, model year 2007-2011 Azera, Sonata and Sante Fe,2006-2011 Tucson, 2009-2011 Elantra Touring, 2007-2010 Elantra, 2008-2011 Veracruz, 2009-2011 Genesis, 2010-2011 Genesis Coupe, 2007-2008 Entourage, and 2006-2008 Tiburon vehicles. Originally, in April 2013, Hyundai recalled 1,059,824 model year 2007-2009 Accent and Tucson, model year 2007-2010 Elantra, model year 2007-2011 Santa Fe, model year 2008-2009 Veracruz, model year 2010-2011 Genesis Coupe, and model year 2011 Sonata vehicles. In September 2013, Hyundai informed the agency that it was adding more vehicles to this campaign, representing an additional 652,512 units. The total number of vehicles being recalled is now 1,712,336. In the affected vehicles, the stop lamp switch may malfunction. A malfunctioning stop lamp switch may cause the brake lights to not illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed or may cause an inability to deactivate the cruise control by depressing the brake pedal. Additionally, a malfunctioning stop lamp switch may also result in intermittent operation of the push-button start feature, affect the operation of the brake transmission shift interlock feature, preventing the shifter from being moved out of the PARK position and cause the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) malfunction light to illuminate.
- Consequence: Failure to illuminate the stop lamps during braking or inability to disengage the cruise control could increase the risk of a crash. Additionally, when the ignition is in the 'ON' position, the transmission shifter may be able to be moved out of Park without first applying the brake. This may lead to unintentional movement of the car which may increase the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will replace the stop lamp switch, free of charge. The safety recall began on April 22, 2013. Owners may contact Hyundai at 1-800-633-5151. Hyundai's recall campaign number is 110.

- Summary: Hyundai is recalling certain model year 2007 through 2009 Santa Fe vehicles manufactured from April 19, 2006, through July 7, 2008. The occupant classification system (OCS) may need recalibration to accurately detect small statured adults.
- Consequence: Improper classification or detection may cause the front passenger airbag not to deploy in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injury to the front passenger.
- Remedy: Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will update the classification software free of charge. The safety recall began on September 7, 2012. Owners may contact Hyundai at 1-800-633-5151.

Overall, I would definitely say that the car is a winner. Despite owning it for over 10 years, the only mechanical work I have had done is brakes, oil changes, O2 sensor, and fuel gauge. However, the interior quality is its biggest drawback. Unfortunately, both visors broke for no apparent reason and the rear seat fold down has a design flaw that causes crinkled carpet. Additionally, both rear map pockets are missing. If those things are still intact, consider yourself lucky. Despite these issues, I would buy it again 10 times over.

I recently bought a used car with 30K miles and have driven it for 10K miles in the last 6 months. Overall, I have had a great experience with it, except for the headlights which are a bit too dim. Before and after purchasing the car, I did some research and found out some interesting things. Firstly, only the bigger engine has a timing chain, not a belt. Secondly, the tow package includes a transmission cooler and high-capacity radiator, and the tow bar wraps under the exhaust pipes to protect them. Thirdly, the 18-inch tires provide better handling and road feel than the 16-inch tires. Fourthly, the 3rd row has its own AC controls, which is great for keeping children comfortable. Fifthly, only the AWD version has the nice brushed-aluminum dual-exhaust tips. Lastly, the Santa Fe shares an assembly line with the Sonata, but has its own platform. I've owned my 2007 Santa Fe AWD since 2010 and it has never let me down! I have over 196k miles and it's still going strong. I love my truck. However, I have noticed a possible electrical problem. But all in all, I'm still on the road EVERYDAY. Thank you, Hyundai!

I experienced several issues with my Hyundai shortly after the 60,000 mile warranty mark, including rattling in the front end and sway bars, as well as electrical failure. Despite paying thousands of dollars in repair costs for my relatively new car, I was left dissatisfied. After researching further, I discovered that many Hyundai owners experience similar issues right after their warranty ends. As a result, I have decided not to purchase a Hyundai again.

I recently purchased a Hyundai because of their long warranty, but unfortunately, I had some trouble with a vent knob that was supposed to be covered under warranty. Despite having to bring the car to the dealer three times and spending over three hours on the phone with HyundaiUSA, I was having trouble getting them to fulfill their warranty. However, I was able to obtain a part to repair it myself and it only took me 4 minutes and 25 seconds. I hope that HyundaiUSA can improve their customer service in the future and better fulfill their warranty promises.

... at the worst possible time... in the worst possible way. I chose this car mainly on Hyundai's good reputation and was convinced it would be durable. These are important things when choosing a used vehicle. However, 5 months and 6K miles in, the transmission went and cost me 3.5K to fix. Not what I had in mind when I spent $11,5K on it! I've had good ownership experience of VWs, Toyotas and Hondas in the past and while you have to maintain and keep up, none of them let me down, so the Hyundai is on its own. If you're considering it as an alternative to a CRV/RAV4/ Highlander/Pilot/Forester, I would suggest looking elsewhere. If you really must pay $2K for a dealer warranty, it may be worth considering. The driveshaft broke at 134,000 miles, causing the ball joint to detach from the right front wheel and damaging the serpentine belt. As a result, the right front tire fell off. Fortunately, this occurred while I was driving through a parking lot, rather than on the highway where it could have been much more dangerous. Although there is a recall for 2013 driveshaft breaking, Hyundai has yet to acknowledge the issue. It is important to note that this is not an isolated incident and the driveshaft has been known to fail in other cases as well.
