The Hyundai Ioniq is a compact five-door liftback manufactured and marketed by Hyundai. The nameplate Ioniq is a portmanteau of ion and unique. It is marketed as the first Hyundai automobile to be offered without a standard internal combustion engine, but rather sold in hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and all-electric variants.
The Ioniq Hybrid debuted in South Korea in January 2016, with all three variants debuting at 2016 Geneva and New York auto shows. The hybrid variant launched in its home market in February 2016, followed by the electric model in July 2016. The plug-in hybrid version followed in February 2017.
From its first model year (2017) through the 2019 model year, the Ioniq Electric had been the EPA's most efficient vehicle with a rated fuel economy of 136 miles per gallon gasoline equivalent (24.8 kWh/100 mi; 15.4 kWh/100 km). The Ioniq Blue Hybrid version has been rated at 4.1 L/100 km (58 mpg‑US), making it the most fuel-efficient hybrid vehicle to be mass-produced.
Following its discontinuation in South Korea in 2021, production of the Ioniq ended in July 2022 in favour of battery electric lineup of Ioniq-badged models starting from the Ioniq 5 hatchback and Ioniq 6 sedan with Ioniq 7 to follow.

It's a great car for the money. On my first tank of gas, I went 1200 miles and it was such a relief not having to look for a gas station. The car is perfect for short people to drive as the visibility is great. It's also much better looking than a Prius and feels incredibly smooth on city and suburban roads. Despite its appearance, the car is actually quite spacious - I was able to fit a long pool pole in it with no trouble. It's perfect for those who work from home and make lots of short 3-10 mile trips to drop kids at school, etc. I never worry about running out of gas and the two motors in sport mode make it feel supercharged between 20 and 60 miles per hour. The tires are self-healing or run-flat at least, so there's no need to worry about needing a spare tire. Overall, the Ioniq PHEV is a great option for those looking for a dual-engine car on a budget. I find it different but fun to drive and I love it for my wife and daughters too.

I recently purchased a 2019 Ioniq Plug-In and have been thoroughly enjoying it! At full charge, the car starts with 29 miles in EV electric mode before automatically shifting to hybrid mode (at around 52 mph). Since my typical daily commute is only 25 miles, I rarely need to use hybrid mode. Charging the car to full capacity at 110V takes about 7 hours, while using an EV charger at 240V (level 2) takes only 2.5-3 hours for a full 29-mile charge. Overall, I am very pleased with the car, although it would be even better if Hyundai could increase the EV mode range from 29 to 49 miles.

I received a $800 rebate and a $1,500 rebate right after purchasing the car, not to mention the $4,000 federal tax credit. In the end, it only cost me around $20,000. The car is amazing, whether you are using electric or petrol, with 27 miles full electric (it says 29... but that's only if you don't run the AC or heater), then 50 mpg when on gas. I have had it for over a year without any problems at all, and it comes with the best warranty in the business. It's the best car I have ever owned. The only reason the car doesn't have higher sales is because it can only be bought in California! I have had one minor issue, however. If it is 110 degrees outside, the electric charging cable will get stuck in the car charging port, and cannot be pulled out unless you release it with the manual override under the hood (it's a spring you tug on). But this only happens about once or twice a year, and only if it's extremely hot outside like 110. Having to pop the hood for a few seconds once a year is only a minor annoyance, so no biggie.

You've got yourself a great car with excellent fuel economy! It drives more like a normal car than the Prius Prime when in hybrid mode, and it also boasts a better interior and body design than the Prius.

There's nothing wrong with the plug-in, although I must admit the plastic steering wheel turned me off. However, if you're looking for a great deal, the electric version is definitely the way to go!
