Common 2024 Chevrolet Blazer ev problems
The 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV has faced several issues, particularly related to software problems. These problems have been reported by both owners and reviewers, causing frustration and concerns about the vehicle's reliability. Here are some of the common problems with the Chevrolet Blazer EV 2024 based on complaints from owners and reviewers:
- Infotainment system failures: Reviewers have reported issues with the infotainment system, including blank screens and error messages while charging. For instance, Edmunds experienced problems with the Blazer EV's infotainment system after just one trip from Los Angeles to San Diego, causing the system to go from perfectly fine to totally on the fritz.
- Charging issues: Software problems have also affected the Blazer EV's charging capabilities. InsideEVs' Kevin Williams reported that his infotainment screen went completely blank and that an attempt to charge the vehicle failed after just 28 hours of driving the Blazer EV.
- Flickering and unresponsive screens: Consumer Reports experienced issues with the Blazer EV's screens, both the center infotainment display and the gauge cluster, which would flicker and become completely unusable. This made navigation to an EV charger difficult, as the maps would constantly cycle and refresh, making them unusable.
- Laggy touchscreen interface: The Blazer EV's touchscreen interface became noticeably laggy in some cases, with several seconds between touch and interaction. This is a significant issue since the majority of the vehicle's controls are through the touchscreen interface.
- Electrical gremlins: The radio would turn on and off when the vehicle was parked in a garage, indicating further electrical issues with the Blazer EV.
- Incorrectly installed carpet and padding: The carpet and padding behind the vehicle's pedals were incorrectly installed, which may have caused discomfort or inconvenience for some drivers.
- Improperly tucked rear seat belt buckles: The rear seat belt buckles were tucked underneath the seat like an old New York taxi cab, which may have led some buyers to believe that they weren't installed, prompting a return to the dealership.
- USB ports too high for the center console: The car's USB ports were too high to close the center console, which could be an inconvenience for some users.
These issues have led to a temporary stop-sale of the Blazer EV, and General Motors has rolled out a software update to address the problems. The company has also cut the Blazer EV's price by an average of $5,900 and announced that the vehicle will qualify for the full $7,500 federal EV tax credit when sales resume.

EQUIPMENT PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-09-25
- VIN: 3GNKDBRJ2RS
- Components: EQUIPMENT
- Summary: Over the last month, the charger has exhibited erratic behavior, including the current jumping, the current dropping, charging interruptions, and tripping the breaker.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-09-22
- VIN: 3GNKDBRJ4RS
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: On multiple occasions the electrical system of my car has gone completely haywire. Various error messages display on the dash referencing problems with almost all car systems including: high voltage battery warning, reduced acceleration, power steering failure, and others. These error message occur in conjunction with the display screens flickering, all the fixed dash warning lights coming on, and the heater turning on full blast without my input. The blinkers also stop working during these electrical events which is a safety hazard to other vehicles. I have taken the car into the dealer multiple times but they still don't know how to fix it. Software updates have not worked. I have pictures and videos of the events occurring. I have also read on message boards that other Blazer EV owners have this exact same problem.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-09-10
- VIN: 3GNKDBRJ8RS
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: I entered my vehicle, and began to reverse when I noticed that the backup camera did not show up. Then I saw that my instrument cluster was not appearing either. I did a reset on the infotainment and the entire instrument cluster and infotainment set of screens stayed black. I had to leave the area so I ended up driving a few miles with no gauge cluster, camera system, or dash indicator lights. Eventually this was rectified by leaving the vehicle off for several minutes, but now I fear this issue will return unexpectedly again.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-08-03
- VIN: 3GNKDCRJ5RS
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: The high voltage system and charging system have both failed in this car three separate times. It has spent almost 50 days in service for high voltage system issues in the 110 days that I’ve owned it. The manager at the dealership told me that a lot of the Blazer EVs that they have sold have had this exact issue and that GM doesn’t seem interested in actually fixing it. They change sensors in the car but don’t want to spend the money actually fixing the battery. Plenty of other owners online have had the exact same issue, many times in the first week of ownership, one before they even drove off the lot. There is a systemic and recurring issue with the high voltage systems in the Blazer EVs.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-09-04
- VIN: 3GNKDBRJ6RS
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: The Lithium-Ion Battery is not performing as expected. An issue has been detected in the Onboard Charging System which manages your vehicle's battery pack charge level.
FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-08-16
- VIN: 3GNKDCRJ8RS
- Components: FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: The emergency collision avoidance braking automatically activated for no reason. Twice it happened at highway speed, once at 65 mph, once at 55 mph. On the one occasion we were approaching a highway overpass, it was bright and sunny - I suspect the system saw a shadow that it thought was somehow going to be a crash and momentarily activated brakes. The other time at highway speeds - I didn't see anything in particular that it was reacting to. Once this happened at about 30 mph, I suspect it saw a dark patch of asphalt. All of the times was just a moment, it was kinda scarry.... glad there wasn't anybody closely following us - could have gotten rear-ended. I have now disabled the system.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-08-08
- VIN: 3GNKDCRJ1RS
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: Dear NHTSA, I am writing to express concern about the excessive noise generated by the Pedestrian Warning System (PWS) on my 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV. While I understand the importance of these systems for pedestrian safety, the current volume level is unreasonably loud and intrusive. The PWS on this vehicle activates at low speeds, (below 25mph), creating significant noise pollution both inside and outside the vehicle. This excessive noise is not only irritating but also potentially harmful to the well-being of drivers, passengers, and particularly our furry friends. I have hearing aids, and it is painful to my ears! I request that the NHTSA investigate the volume levels of Blazers EV PWS systems to ensure they are both effective for pedestrian safety and considerate of vehicle occupants. They need to match combustion engine noise levels and no more. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-08-05
- VIN: 3GNKDBRJ2RS
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: While this vehicle was in motion the brakes suddenly stopped working. The brake pedal went to the floor with no braking. The screen read brake assist failure. Safety was at risk due to being unable to stop the vehicle until it slowed itself down. This could have resulted in a fatality. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. The vehicle was towed to the dealership today and no answers have been provided. There were no symptoms or signs prior to the total brake failure. Other messages on screen read: one pedal driving disabled, parking brake disabled, rear parking assist disabled.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-08-03
- VIN: 3GNKDCRJ5RS
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: The High Voltage System failed three separate times within the first 3 months of ownership. Has spent total almost 30 days in the shop getting repairs. It happened at 400 miles, 800 miles, and 2200 miles. The car was unable to charge, unable to drive at full Highway speeds, and was a safety hazard because it could shut down at any moment according to the manual. The last time it happened was while I was driving home from a work trip. I had to drive 100 miles in 100° heat without functional AC and at limited speeds, hoping that the car wouldn’t shut down on the freeway in the middle of nowhere because the charging system failed while I was charging to complete my trip. Fortunately I made it home with 2% battery remaining, but if my house was another 10 miles away, I would’ve been stuck on the side of the road. The Blazer EV is a safety hazard, and multiple other people online are reporting similar problems enough that it could warrant a recall.
SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-06-05
- VIN: 3GNKDCRJXRS
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: Ecs failure, brake assist failure. Car upon starting would not brake. Gave above stated error codes. Restarting car resolved issue temporarily. Video available of incident. Braking did not stop vehicle
STEERING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-03-18
- VIN: 3GNKDCRJ3RS
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: Telescoping adjustable steering wheel would not lock into place. If adjusted to multiple different positions, the steering wheel would fall out of position and drop in height as well as in towards the dashboard without warning. This occurred several times while driving as well as while parked. Took back to the dealership and was told initially that it was just the locking mechanism that needed to be replaced. Now the dealership is telling me that the entire steering column needs to be replaced.
POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-11-02
- VIN: 3GNKDCRJ4RS
- Components: POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: I had problems with my 2024 Chevrolet Blazer RS EV since the first week I purchased it a few months ago. The display would go blank while driving. I was unable to turn the vehicle off due to the controls not being accessible on the display. There is a grinding noise inside my dash and the service vehicle soon light on. The climate controls are unavailable resulting in high heat on defrost. There is a vibration periodically when driving on a smooth road. I have brought the car to the dealership several times and it has been there this time for almost two weeks. They are not able to address the issues stating that parts are on back order. My complaints to GM have not resulted in my request to return the vehicle for a full refund. The GM concierge has called me four times and keeps telling me they will need to call me back after asking questions I have already replied to. GM put a stop sale on this vehicle after selling any about 500 and they have not addressed my concerns.
STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-11-25
- VIN: 3GNKDCRJ8RS
- Components: STRUCTURE
- Summary: The contact owns a 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV. The contact stated that the liftgate intermittently closed independently after opening with the fob key. The contact was concerned that he and others might be injured while standing near the liftgate when the failure occurred. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 25.
POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-11-01
- VIN: 3GNKDCRJ5RS
- Components: POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
- Summary: Although the owner's manual specifically states "When enabled, One-Pedal Driving applies in R (Reverse) and D (Drive). This feature remains enabled until manually disabled by the driver." One pedal drive does not work in reverse. Car does not creep in reverse like an ICE vehicle, but quickly lurches backward, surprising an experienced or forgetful driver and possibly endangering pedestrians walking or standing behind the car. Dealer service has checked it and consulted with Chevrolet, who refuses to address the issue, saying the owner's manual is just wrong. The same one pedal drive verbiage appears in both the Chevy Bolt and Cadillac Lyriq owner's manuals.

On day one of ownership, a warning ⚠️ appeared on the dashboard instructing me to shut down the car to avoid the risk of fire. Shortly after, the rear passenger lights began blinking rapidly and then went out. I immediately brought the car back to the dealer, but they assured me that everything was okay. However, later that day, the same issue with the lights occurred again. I brought the car back to the dealer and they discovered 40 codes in the system. As of 11/13/23, the car is still at the dealer.

The car has experienced several electronic issues, including the failure of the infotainment system, which is where all programmed functionality is accessed from. Additionally, there is a constant rubbing sound while driving. Currently, only one dealer in the city is certified to work on this model. Despite the extended wait for replacement parts, the dealer has been working on the car for a week already, and advises that the replacement will take a long time. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend this car.
