2000 Gmc Sierra problems

The Chevrolet Silverado is a range of trucks manufactured by General Motors under the Chevrolet brand. Introduced for the 1999 model year, the Silverado is the successor to the long-running Chevrolet C/K model line. Taking its name from the top trim level from the Chevrolet C/K series, the Silverado is offered as a series of full-size pickup trucks, chassis cab trucks, and medium-duty trucks. The fourth generation of the model line was introduced for the 2019 model year.

The Chevrolet Silverado shares mechanical commonality with the identically related GMC Sierra; GMC ended the use of the C/K nomenclature a model generation prior to Chevrolet. In Mexico, high-trim level versions of the Silverado use the Chevrolet Cheyenne name (not to be confused with the 2003 concept). Competing against the Ford F-Series, Ram Pickup, Toyota Tundra, and Nissan Titan, the Silverado is among the best-selling vehicles in the United States, having sold over 12 million trucks since its introduction in 1998 as a 1999 model year.

History

The Silverado nameplate made its debut for the 1975 model year, becoming the top trim level on all Chevrolet C/K trucks, slotted above Custom Deluxe, Scottsdale, and Cheyenne. For the 1968 model year (seven years before the Silverado), GMC C/K trucks used variations of the Sierra name (Sierra, Sierra Classic, Sierra Grande, and High Sierra). Even after the C/K series officially ended, GM still uses the CK and the CC in their current model codes, to denote a two-wheel drive (CC), and four-wheel drive (CK).

For the 1988 GMT400 model architecture, Chevrolet retained the C/K model nomenclature, with GMC branding its full-size line as Sierras. While sharing the same body and chassis, the model chronology of the Silverado and Sierra are different, with five generations of the Sierra, while four of the Silverado.

In 2018, at the NTEA Work Truck Show in Indianapolis, Indiana, Chevrolet unveiled the first medium-duty Silverado, expanding the model line to a 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD chassis cab. Largely the successor to the 2003–2009 GMT560 chassis, the medium-duty trucks are exclusive to Chevrolet, with no plans for an equivalent GMC version. Instead, Navistar International (now partnering with GM) would sell the medium-duty trucks as a rebadged counterpart, called the CV. This is in fact a very similar nod to how the Avalanche did not have a GMC Yukon–based equivalent, but instead, Cadillac would take its place as the former's rebadged counterpart, the Escalade EXT.

Common 2000 Gmc Sierra problems

The GMC Sierra 2000 is a reliable vehicle, but like any car, it has its share of common problems. Here are some of the most frequently reported issues by owners of this car:

  1. Speedometer Problems: One of the most common problems with the GMC Sierra, especially the 2005 model, is that some vehicles seem to have problems with the Speedometer. This is an electrical and wiring issue, but it can be relatively hard to spot, especially if you don’t live somewhere with speed monitoring on the side of the road. The easiest version of this problem to spot is when the speedometer stops working entirely. However, that’s not the most common problem. If your speedometer stops working, you can use a speedometer on your phone to help limp your vehicle to a mechanic to get the problem fixed. Unfortunately, the most common version of this problem isn’t that the speedometer stops working; it’s that the speedometer stops giving an accurate reading. That can be a bit issue because you might get ticketed for speeding or take a curve at the wrong speed and lose control. Fixing this issue is also a mixed back. Sometimes replacing the sensors is all you need, but other times it’s a wiring or power source problem that is harder (and more expensive) to resolve.
  2. Electrical Issues: The GMC Sierra also seems to have some problems with the electrical system. Other issues, like dash gauges not working, interior lights giving out, or the vehicle randomly locking or unlocking are all relatively common problems for the SMC Sierra. Miscellaneous issues can range from very mild to severe. Fixing these problems also has a widely variable cost depending on what repairs are necessary and how hard it is to access the source of the problem.
  3. Heating System Problems: The GMC Sierra also seems to have some problems with the heating system. The heater in your Sierra might turn on randomly, even in the middle of summer. Thankfully the opposite doesn’t seem to happen, so you won’t have to worry about your heater suddenly turning off in the middle of a freezing winter drive.
  4. Engine Problems: The engine in the GMC Sierra 2000 can have several issues, including minor problems such as a slight leak in one valve cover gasket, engine knock or ping, fuel leaks, and oil leaks. More severe problems include engine rebuild or replacement, cylinder head, head gasket, turbocharger or supercharger, timing chain or belt.
  5. Transmission Problems: The transmission in the GMC Sierra 2000 can also have several issues, including rebuild or replacement, torque converter, and premature clutch replacement.
  6. Exhaust System Problems: The GMC Sierra 2000 can also have problems with the exhaust system, including muffler, pipes, catalytic converter, exhaust manifold, heat shields, and leaks.
  7. Brake Problems: The GMC Sierra 2000 can have several brake problems, including premature pad/rotor wear, pulsation or vibration, antilock system, parking brake, master cylinder, calipers, squeaking, brake failure, regenerative braking.
  8. AC System Problems: The GMC Sierra 2000 can have problems with the AC system, including AC compressor, blower (fan) motor, condenser, evaporator, heater system, automatic climate system, electrical failure, refrigerant leakage.

In summary, the GMC Sierra 2000 is a reliable vehicle, but like any car, it has its share of common problems. The most frequently reported issues by owners of this car include speedometer problems, electrical issues, heating system problems, engine problems, transmission problems, exhaust system problems, brake problems, and AC system problems. If you own a GMC Sierra 2000 or are considering buying one, it's essential to be aware of these potential issues and address them promptly to ensure the vehicle's longevity and safety.

SUSPENSION,POWER TRAIN,ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2020-03-01
  • VIN: 1GTEK19T2YE
  • Components: SUSPENSION,POWER TRAIN,ENGINE
  • Summary: I'VE HAD SEVERAL PROBLEMS WITH THE TRUCK SINCE I BOUGHT IT 3 MONTHS AGO. I'VE FIXED ALMOST ALL OF THEM-ABS WAS ACTIVATING WHICH WAS PUSHING ME INTO TRAFFIC NEARLY CAUSING A WRECK SO I CHANGED THE ABS SPEED SENSOR AND HUB ASSEMBLY. FRONT SUSPENSION WAS GONE SO I REPLACED THAT; AS WELL AS STEERING PARTS, BRAKES, THE PARKING BRAKE DOESN'T WORK, FIXING IT NEXT. OIL SENDING UNIT, A/C BELT AND REFRIGERANT REPLACED. THE PROBLEMS LEFT ARE EVAP EMISSION VENT VALVE SOLENOID, THROTTLE PEDAL POSITION SENSOR, AND RANDOM/ MULTIPLE CYLINDER MISFIRE SOMETIMES AND CYLINDER 4 MISFIRE OTHER TIMES. IN 4X4 WHEN IT GETS UNDER A LOAD SOMETHING SOUNDS LIKE IT'S BINDING UP AND IT POPS BUT IT STILL WORKS. WHEN I SHIFT INTO DRIVE OR REVERSE OR ACCELERATE FROM A STOP IT HAS A SHIFT FEELING IN THE REAR WITH A THUMP SOUND. SOMETIMES I CAN PUSH THE GAS AND IT WON'T DOWNSHIFT TO SPEED UP WHEN I'M ON THE HWY BUT THAT'S PROBABLY THE TPPS. I JUST WANT MY 4X4 WORKING AND MY SHIFT THUMP FROM A STOP TO GO AWAY. HELP. IN 4X4 THE NOISE HAPPENS IN FWD REVERSE AND WHEN TURNING AND WORSE IN 4LO BUT HAPPENS IN 4HI AND AUTO BUT NOT IN 2HI. *TR

AIR BAGS PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2019-03-21
  • VIN: 1GTEK19T5YE
  • Components: AIR BAGS
  • Summary: I BOUGHT THIS TRUCK FROM A USED CAR DEALERSHIP IN BLAIR, NE WASHINGTON COUNTY. THE DEALERSHIP SOLD THIS TRUCK TO ME WITH REPLACED AIRBAGS THAT DIDN'T WORK. THEY REPLACED THE ORIGINAL FACTORY AIR BAGS WITH WHAT NOW ARE MARKED CHEVROLET AND NOT GMC ACCORDING TO MECHANICAL SHOP. SAME MECHANIC EXPRESSED TO ME THAT THIS TRUCK WAS IN ACCIDENT THAT NOT ONLY BENT THE FRAME BUT ALSO CAUSED THE ORIGINAL AIR BAGS TO DEPLOY. WHEN I PICKED UP TRUCK AFTER SALE I ASKED THE DEALERSHIP OWNER WHY THE LIGHT WAS ON, HE SAID HIS MECHANIC COULD FIX IT. HIS MECHANIC COULD ONLY WORK MONDAY THRU THURSDAY WHICH MADE MAKING ANY APPOINTMENT IMPOSSIBLE FOR ME, SO I TOOK IT TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER TO LOOK AT IT AND THAT IS WHEN I FOUND THE AIRBAGS HAD BEEN REPLACED IMPROPERLY. I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH THE NE DEPARTMENT OF VEHICLES AND WAS TOLD TO FILE A FEDERAL COMPLAINT ABOUT THE AIRBAGS. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2009-10-26
  • VIN: 1GTEK19T0YE
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES
  • Summary: TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 GMC SIERRA 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC) BY WEHR FORD (11311 US-60 BUS, MOUNTAIN GROVE, MO 65711, (417) 926-3192). THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DEALER ONLY CLEANED THE ABS SENSOR FOR CORROSION. YEARS LATER, THE BRAKE PEDAL FAILED TO RESPOND DUE TO INTERNAL CORROSION REGARDING THE SENSOR. ALSO, THE ABS KEPT INTERMITTENTLY ACTIVATING AND CAUSED EXTREME DIFFICULTY WHEN BRAKING. THE BRAKE PEDAL FAILED TO STOP THE VEHICLE AND CAUSED THE DRIVER TO HAVE TO REVERSE MORE THAN TWICE TO PREVENT A CRASH. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES AND INDICATED THAT THE ABS SENSOR MAY NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2018-03-07
  • VIN: 1GTEK14T5YE
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES
  • Summary: WENT TO STOP AND THE BRAKE PEDAL PUSHED AGAINST MY FOOT INSTEAD OF GOING DOWN. WAS MOVING SLOWLY AND THE BRAKE PEDAL INSTEAD OF STOPPING THE CAR PUSHED MY FOOT UP FROM THE BRAKE PEDAL AND I WENT OVER A PARKING BRAKE. MECHANIC VERIFIED THAT WHEN WHEEL SENSOR GOES BAD THE VEHICLE THINKS THE BRAKES ARE LOCKING UP AND THE ABS SYSTEM GOES ON PUMPING BRAKE PEDAL. HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES AS APPROACHED STOP LIGHTS PUSHING ME INTO INTERSECTION INSTEAD OF STOPPING.. I BELIEVE WHEN THE WHEEL SENSOR IS BAD IT SHOULD NOT PUT ME OR OTHERS IN A DANGEROUS SITUATION.

SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2018-04-02
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES
  • Summary: DURING A NORMAL STOP AT A STOP SIGN ON A RURAL ROAD, A STEEL BRAKE LINE RUPTURED DUE TO EXCESS CORROSION. THIS ONE LINE BETWEEN THE MASTER CYLINDER AND ABS MODULE IS THE ONLY LINE THAT PROVIDES PRESSURE TO THE FRONT BRAKES, WHICH SUPPLY ROUGHLY 75% OF THE VEHICLE'S BRAKING POWER. THE RUPTURE RESULTED IN RAPID FLUID LOSS AND THEREFORE A LACK OF PRESSURE IN THE HYDRAULIC SYSTEM TO ALLOW FOR ADEQUATE BRAKING. NEEDED TO SWERVE INTO A DITCH TO AVOID A CRASH WITH CROSS TRAFFIC.VISUAL INSPECTION INDICATES MOST BRAKE LINES ARE EXTREMELY CORRODED, AND WERE OBVIOUSLY MADE WITH SUBSTANDARD MATERIALS AS COMPARED TO OTHER MANUFACTURERS. I DO RECOGNIZE THAT THIS IS AN OLD VEHICLE, HOWEVER OTHER VEHICLES OF SIMILAR AGE AND DRIVEN IN SIMILAR ENVIRONMENTS DO NOT HAVE THIS ISSUE. ONLINE RESEARCH, MOST NOTABLY THE COMPLAINTS FILED TO NHTSA, INDICATE THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH CHEVY/GMC TRUCKS OF THIS ERA. ALTHOUGH OTHER OEM'S (SUBARU) HAVE ISSUED RECALLS IN SIMILAR SITUATIONS, IT APPEARS THAT THE GM THAT THE PUBLIC BAILED OUT JUST A FEW YEARS AGO HAS DECIDED TO DENY THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM, GAMBLING THAT THE THE COST OF LAWSUITS ASSOCIATED WITH DEATHS DO NOT EXCEED THE COST OF A RECALL.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2017-12-23
  • VIN: 1GTGC29U0YE
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES
  • Summary: WHILE DRIVING THE BRAKE AND ABS LIGHTS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHT UP. THIS HAS OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING OF THE FREEWAY AND ON CITY STREETS. SOMETIMES THESE LIGHTS GO OFF AND SOMETIMES THEY REMAIN LIGHTED. WHEN THIS HAPPENS I FEAR THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES AND HAVE TAKEN THIS MATTER TO A MECHANIC. THE BRAKES WERE EXAMINED AND HE FOUND NOTHING WRONG. THIS IS VERY STARTLING TO THE DRIVER AND OF GREAT CONCERN. THIS APPEARS ON INTERNET SEARCHES AND IT APPEARS THAT 100,000 PLUS INDIVIDUALS HAVE THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE CONTACTED THE DEALER AND OBVIOUSLY THIS MATTER HAS BEEN BROUGHT TO THERE ATTENTION. YET THEY CLAIM THEY ARE UNFAMILIAR AND WANT TO CHARGE $600 TO DIAGNOSE AND THEN LIKELY MORE TO FIX. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A LIE AS THERE IS NO WAY THAT ONE COULD BE READING SO MUCH ABOUT THIS ON THE INTERNET IF IT WAS NOT A PROBLEM IN THE GMC SIERRA TRUCKS. SOME CLAIM IT IS A FAULTY CIRCUIT BOARD WHILE OTHERS HAVE LOST THE USE OF THEIR BRAKES. THIS IS OF GREAT CONCERN. THIS OCCURS WHILE DRIVING AND THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION AND SOMETIMES AT HIGH SPEEDS ON A FREEWAY.

SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2017-07-29
  • VIN: 1GTEK19T3YE
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES
  • Summary: BRAKE FAILURE FOR THE SECOND TIME ON THE VEHICLE. ORIGINAL BRAKE LINES WERE REPLACED 7 OR 8 YEARS AGO DUE TO FAILURE AT MY OWN COST (RUSTED LINES, LEADING THEM TO FAIL AS THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED), ALL LINES WERE REPLACE WITH GM REPLACEMENT LINES BY A QUALIFIED TECHNICIAN. ORIGINAL FAILURE RENDERED THE BRAKES 0% OPERATIONAL, GRAVITY (UPHILL) WAS THE ONLY THING THAT STOPPED THE VEHICLE. THE MOST RECENT FAILURE (ON JULY 29, 2017) AFFECTED THE BRAKE LINE RUNNING TO THE FRONT-RIGHT CALIPER, LINE FAILED WHERE IT CROSSED OVER THE SKID PLATE NEAR THE CENTER-LINE OF THE VEHICLE UP FRONT BY THE LOWER RADIATOR SUPPORT. LINE FAILED DUE TO CORROSION. REAR BRAKES APPEAR TO BE WORKING BUT ARE NOT SUFFICIENT TO STOP THE VEHICLE IN A SAFE MANNER. NO ACCIDENT OCCURRED, LINE FAILED AS APPROACHING A LIGHT TURNING RED WHILE GOING UPHILL, ROLLED THROUGH THE INTERSECTION PRIOR TO THE LIGHT TURNING GREEN FOR CROSSING TRAFFIC AND WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE AS IT DRIFTED TO A STOP UPHILL. THE QUALITY OF THE GM BRAKE LINES ARE VERY SUSPECT TO SAY THE LEAST. THE BRAKE LINES ARE DANGEROUS AND SEEM TO BE MORE SUSCEPTIBLE TO CORROSION THAN ANY OTHER BRAKE LINE ON ANY OTHER VEHICLE I'VE EVER OWNED, OR ANY OF MY FRIENDS OR FAMILY HAVE EVER OWNED. I CAN ONLY IMAGINE IF THE LINES FAILED UNDER DIFFERENT CIRCUMSTANCES (WHILE TOWING THOUGH MOUNTAINS WHILE GOING DOWNHILL FOR EXAMPLE, THIS WOULD BE A LIFE-THREATENING SITUATION). PLEASE DETERMINE IF THESE LINES ARE FAULTY FOR THE SAKE OF OTHERS WITH THESE VEHICLES, AND THE SAKE OF OTHER MOTORISTS THAT COULD BE IMPACTED WHEN THE BRAKES ON THIS LARGER VEHICLE FAIL. IF THEY ARE FOUND TO BE FAULTY OWNERS SHOULD BE NOTIFIED THAT THESE BRAKE LINES ARE SUBPAR, AND THAT THE MANUFACTURER'S REPLACEMENT LINES ARE ALSO SUBPAR.

  • Summary: GMC TRUCK FRAMES CRACKING, ROTTING OUT, BRAKING DUE TO POOR DESIGN AND COATING AND GM WON'T STEP UP AND TAKE RESPONSIBILITY AS TOYOTA HAS. THE CONSUMER GETS AN UNSAFE VEHICLE BECAUSE OF FRAMES GIVING OUT WELL BEFORE THE BODY, THE FRAMES SHOULD BE STRONG. IN UNDER 2 YEARS THE FRAME WENT FROM STRONG AND SAFE TO NOW RUSTED UP SCRAP METAL. AMERICAN QUALITY SHOULD BE OF GREAT STANDARDS IN MY UP MOST OPINION BEING AN ARMY VETERAN. GENERAL MOTORS SHOULD COMPANSATE OWNERS OR BUY THEM BACK AS TOYOTA HAS.

THIS CONDITION IS MORE LIKELY TO OCCUR IN ENVIRONMENTALLY CORROSIVE AREAS. THIS RECALL WILL BE LAUNCHED IN THE "SALT BELT" STATES OF CONNECTICUT, DELAWARE, ILLINOIS, INDIANA, IOWA, MARYLAND, MASSACHUSETTS, MAINE, MICHIGAN, MINNESOTA, MISSOURI, NEW HAMPSHIRE, NEW JERSEY, NEW YORK, OHIO, PENNSYLVANIA, RHODE ISLAND, VERMONT, WEST VIRGINIA, WISCONSIN AND THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA ONLY.
  • Consequence: THIS CAN CAUSE INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCES DURING LOW-SPEED BRAKE APPLICATIONS, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH.
  • Remedy: DEALERS ARE TO REMOVE THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR AND THOROUGHLY CLEAN THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR MOUNTING SURFACE ON THE BEARING, APPLY RUST INHIBITOR TO THE CLEANED SURFACE, GREASE THE MOUNTING SURFACE, REINSTALL THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR, AND CHECK THE PEAK-TO-PEAK OUTPUT VOLTAGE TO ENSURE THE WHEEL SPEED SIGNAL IS WITHIN SPECIFICATIONS. THE RECALL BEGAN SEPTEMBER 22, 2005. OWNERS MAY CONTACT CHEVROLET AT 1-800-630-2438 OR GMC AT 1-866-996-9463.

  • Manufacturer: GENERAL MOTORS CORP.
  • Components: PARKING BRAKE
  • Summary: ON CERTAIN PICKUP TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS AND BUILT WITH EITHER PBR PARKING BRAKE SYSTEMS OR TRW PARKING BRAKE SYSTEMS, THE PARKING BRAKE FRICTION LININGS MAY WEAR TO AN EXTENT WHERE THE PARKING BRAKE CAN BECOME INEFFECTIVE IN IMMOBILIZING A PARKED VEHICLE.
  • Consequence: IF THE PARKING BRAKE DOES NOT HOLD, UNINTENDED VEHICLE MOVEMENT COULD OCCUR, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH.
  • Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL A LOW-FORCE SPRING CLIP RETAINER FOR VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A PBR PARKING BRAKE SYSTEM. ON VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH THE TRW PARKING BRAKE SYSTEM, DEALERS WILL INSTALL A REDESIGNED PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY. THE RECALL BEGAN ON JULY 29, 2005. • Manufacturer: GENERAL MOTORS CORP.
  • Components: POWER TRAIN:DRIVELINE:DRIVESHAFT
  • Summary: SOME PICKUP TRUCKS, VANS, AND SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A HYDRAULIC PUMP DRIVESHAFT THAT CAN FRACTURE, RESULTING IN IMMEDIATE LOSS OF HYDRAULIC POWER STEERING ASSIST. ON CERTAIN VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH HYDRO-BOOST POWER BRAKES, THE SAME CONDITION CAN RESULT IN LOSS OF POWER ASSIST FOR BRAKING AFTER THE RESERVE PRESSURE IS DEPLETED.
  • Consequence: AN INOPERATIVE PUMP CAN CAUSE INCREASED STEERING EFFORT, AND IN HYDRO-BOOST EQUIPPED VEHICLES ALSO INCREASED BRAKING EFFORT, BUT DOES NOT COMPLETELY ELIMINATE THE ABILITY TO STEER OR SLOW THE VEHICLE.
  • Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE HYDRAULIC PUMP. THE CAMPAIGN BEGAN ON FEBRUARY 14, 2005. OWNERS MAY CONTACT CHEVROLET AT 1-800-630-2438 OR GMC AT 1-866-996-9463.

  • Manufacturer: DURAKON INDUSTRIES, INC.
  • Components: EQUIPMENT
  • Summary: AFTERMARKET PICKUP TRUCK OVER-THE-RAIL BEDLINERS MANUFACTURED FOR INSTALLATION ON 1999-2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO AND GMC SIERRA PICKUP TRUCKS. THE TOGGLE WING ASSEMBLY USED TO ATTACH THE BEDLINER TO THE TRUCK BED IS NOT ENGAGING FULLY IN THE STAKE POCKET OF THE PICKUP TRUCK.
  • Consequence: THE BEDLINER CAN BECOME DETACHED FROM THE PICKUP WHILE IT IS MOTION, POSSIBLY ENDANGERING FOLLOWING MOTORISTS OR PEDESTRIANS.
  • Remedy: DURAKON WILL ISSUE A PRESS RELEASE IN ATTEMPT TO NOTIFY CUSTOMERS THAT COULD HAVE PURCHASED THE DEFECTIVE BEDLINER. IF YOU PURCHASED EITHER A DURAKON ALLSTAR OF PATRIOT OVERRAIL BEDLINER SINCE AUGUST 1, 2003, FOR 1999 TO 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO OR GMC SIERRA TRUCKS, OR PURCHASED ONE OF THESE PICKUP TRUCKS WITH EITHER BRAND BEDLINER ALREADY INSTALLED, YOU SHOULD RETURN TO AN AUTHORIZED DURAKON DEALER SO THAT THE BEDLINER CAN BE INSPECTED AND, IF NECESSARY, REPAIRED WITH A NEWLY DESIGNED TOGGLE WING FASTENING SYSTEM, OR IF REQUIRED, REPLACED WITH A NEW BEDLINER FREE OF CHARGE. PLEASE CALL THE DURAKON HOTLINE AT 1-800-933-4200 TO FIND THE NEAREST AUTHORIZED DURAKON DEALER.

  • Manufacturer: GENERAL MOTORS CORP.
  • Components: STRUCTURE:BODY:TAILGATE:HINGE AND ATTACHMENTS
  • Summary: ON CERTAIN PICKUP TRUCKS AND SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES, THE GALVANIZED STEEL TAILGATE SUPPORT CABLES THAT RETAIN THE TAILGATE IN THE FULL OPEN (HORIZONTAL) POSITION MAY CORRODE, WEAKEN, AND EVENTUALLY FRACTURE. IF BOTH CABLES FRACTURED, THE TAILGATE WOULD SUDDENLY DROP AND STRIKE THE TOP SURFACE OF THE REAR BUMPER.
  • Consequence: ANYONE SITTING OR STANDING ON THE HORIZONTAL SURFACE OF THE TAILGATE WHEN BOTH CABLES FRACTURED COULD BE INJURED BY FALLING FROM THE TAILGATE. ON VEHICLES THAT HAVE HAD THE BUMPER REMOVED, THE TAILGATE MAY DROP EVEN LOWER. ADDITIONALLY, IF THERE IS CARGO ON THE TAILGATE THE CARGO MAY FALL OFF IF THE SUPPORT CABLES FRACTURE.
  • Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE CABLES. INTERIM OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN ON APRIL 7, 20004. THE RECALL BEGAN ON SEPTEMBER 24, 2004, WHEN REPLACEMENT PARTS WERE AVAILABLE, AND WILL CONTINUE THROUGH OCTOBER 29, 2004. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT CADILLAC AT 1-866-982-2339, CHEVROLET AT 1-800-630-2438 OR GMC AT 1-866-996-9463, OR VISIT WWW.MYGMLINK.COM, AND ENTER YOUR VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER.

  • Manufacturer: GENERAL MOTORS CORP.
  • Components: AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:SENSOR/CONTROL MODULE-INACTIVE
  • Summary: ON CERTAIN PICKUP AND UTILITY TRUCKS, SOME OF THESE VEHICLES HAVE AN AIR BAG SENSING DIAGNOSTIC MODULE (SDM) WHICH CONTAINS AN ANOMALY THAT COULD RESULT IN THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER'S AIR BAG FAILING TO DEPLOY DURING CERTAIN FRONTAL CRASHES.
  • Consequence: IN A VEHICLE CRASH, FRONT SEAT OCCUPANTS MAY RECEIVE MORE SEVERE INJURIES.
  • Remedy: DEALERS WILL RECALIBRATE THE SDM ON THE AFFECTED VEHICLES. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN AUGUST 28, 2002. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT CHEVROLET AT 1-800-222-1020 OR GMC AT 1-800-462-8782.

  • Manufacturer: GENERAL MOTORS CORP.
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:FOUNDATION COMPONENTS:HOSES, LINES/PIPING, AND FITTINGS
  • Summary: VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: LIGHT DUTY PICKUP TRUCKS AND SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES. SOME OF THESE VEHICLES HAVE A CLEARANCE CONDITION BETWEEN THE FRONT RIGHT-HAND BRAKE PIPE AND THE BODY CROSS SILL THAT COULD DECREASE TO THE POINT OF ALLOWING CONTACT DURING THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE. IF CONTACT OCCURS AND THE BRAKE PIPE BECOMES DAMAGED, IN HALF OF THE BRAKE SYSTEM THERE CAN BE A LOSS OF BRAKE FLUID AND PRESSURE. THE BRAKE WARNING LAMP WILL BE ACTIVATED WHEN THE BRAKE FLUID LEVEL REACHES THE INDICATOR LIMIT.
  • Consequence: DURING BRAKING, THE PEDAL WILL BE LOWER THAN NORMAL AND STOPPING DISTANCES WILL BE LONGER. IF THIS OCCURS WHEN STOPPING DISTANCE IS LIMITED, A CRASH COULD OCCUR.
  • Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE FRONT RIGHT-HAND BRAKE PIPE FOR WEAR. IF THERE ARE SIGNS OF WEAR, THIS SECTION OF THE BRAKE PIPE WILL BE REPLACED WITH A NEW DESIGNED BRAKE PIPE SECTION. IF THERE ARE NOT SIGNS OF WEAR ON THE BRAKE PIPE, THE DEALER WILL INSTALL A SPACER CLIP TO ENSURE SUFFICIENT CLEARANCE BETWEEN THE BRAKE PIPE AND THE BODY CROSS SILL.

  • Manufacturer: GENERAL MOTORS CORP.
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:FOUNDATION COMPONENTS:DISC:CALIPER
  • Summary: THIS IS NOT A SAFETY RECALL IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE SAFETY ACT. HOWEVER, IT IS DEEMED A SAFETY IMPROVEMENT CAMPAIGN BY THE AGENCY. VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: 1/2 TON LIGHT DUTY PICKUP TRUCKS. ON CERTAIN TRUCKS, FAILURE TO FOLLOW THE SERVICE PROCEDURE SET FORTH IN THE SERVICE MANUAL FOR REMOVAL OF THE FRONT BRAKE CALIPER CAN RESULT IN MOVEMENT OF THE FRONT BRAKE HOSE RELATIVE TO ITS KNUCKLE MOUNTING BRACKET. IF THIS MOVEMENT RESULTS IN INCREASED LENGTH BETWEEN THE BRACKET AND THE BANJO FITTING THAT ATTACHES TO THE BRAKE CALIPER, IT IS POSSIBLE FOR THE BRAKE HOSE TO COME IN CONTACT WITH THE WHEEL RIM.
  • Consequence: THIS CONTACT WITH THE WHEEL RIM COULD, IN TIME, CAUSE THE BRAKE HOSE TO BECOME WORN TO THE POINT THAT BRAKE FLUID LEAKAGE COULD OCCUR. IF THIS OCCURRED, LOSS OF FRONT BRAKES IS POSSIBLE.
  • Remedy: DEALERS WILL ATTACH A NOTICE LABEL TO THE FRONT BRAKE HOSES STATING THAT THE CALIPERS MUST BE SUPPORTED WHEN REMOVED.

  • Manufacturer: GENERAL MOTORS CORP.
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK/TRACTION CONTROL/ELECTRONIC LIMITED SLIP
  • Summary: VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: LIGHT DUTY PICKUP TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH 4-WHEEL DISC BRAKES. SOME OF THESE VEHICLES HAVE AN ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) MOTOR CONTAINING AN OUT-OF-SPECIFICATION SPRING CLIP. THIS CLIP COULD ALLOW THE MOTOR BEARING TO BECOME MISALIGNED. IF MISALIGNMENT OCCURS, EVENTUALLY THE ABS WOULD BE NON-FUNCTIONAL.
  • Consequence: THE BASE BRAKES WOULD REMAIN FULLY FUNCTIONAL, BUT THE DYNAMIC REAR PROPORTIONING (DRP) SYSTEM, WHICH OPTIMIZES FRONT TO REAR BRAKE BALANCE, WOULD BECOME INOPERATIVE.
  • Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE BRAKE PRESSURE MODULE VALVE ASSEMBLY.
