Genesis Gv60 problems
The Genesis GV60 is a battery electric compact luxury crossover SUV produced by Genesis, a luxury vehicle marque of Hyundai. Slotted below the GV70, it is the first Genesis product to be developed on the Hyundai Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP).
Overview
Genesis unveiled the GV60 on 19 August 2021; it was released globally on 30 September 2021. Codenamed JW during development, the vehicle sits on a dedicated EV platform shared by the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the Kia EV6. Powertrain details include a single-motor application for lower trim levels as well as a dual-motor all-wheel-drive model.
The GV60 is the first to apply a new Genesis emblem imprinted with an elaborate Guilloche pattern and a clamshell hood that removes joints between the bodies. Also, the GV60 is equipped with Face Connect which recognizes the driver's face to control the door lock, seat, steering wheel, side mirrors, and infotainment. A smartphone-based digital key can be used to open the door of the vehicle and start the engine. This can be used through wireless software updates.

Common Genesis Gv60 problems
The Genesis GV60, a luxury electric vehicle produced by Hyundai, has been reported to have several common problems based on complaints from owners.
One issue that has been reported is electrical failure during operation. A 2023 Genesis GV60 owner experienced a shutdown while driving, which occurred right after charging the vehicle to 88% at an Electrify America charging station. The car was towed to the dealership, where it has been sitting for almost three weeks with no resolution in sight. The owner is concerned about the reliability of the vehicle, especially for long-distance trips. This issue might be isolated, but it raises concerns about the electrical system's robustness in the Genesis GV60.
Another problem reported by owners is the charging network's reliability. Although the 2023 Genesis GV60 is praised for its performance, handling, and features, some owners have expressed dissatisfaction with the charging network's reliability. This issue can be particularly problematic for long-distance travel, as it may limit the vehicle's usability in areas with less developed charging infrastructure.
Additionally, there have been reports of manufacturing issues with the 2023 Genesis GV60. Hyundai WIA, a subsidiary of Hyundai, didn't manufacture the rear driveshafts for the 2023 Genesis GV60 correctly, leading to an investigation and a safety recall of nearly 1,800 units in the United States. The issue is attributed to abnormal stress points in the rear driveshafts due to improper jig tooling alignment during manufacturing. This defect could result in rear driveshaft failure in dual-motor vehicles, potentially affecting the vehicle's safety and reliability.
Lastly, some owners have reported that the interior materials and design of the Genesis GV60 do not meet their expectations, particularly when compared to other Genesis models. The interior is criticized for using flimsy plastic, shiny black trim that is easily scratched, and matte silver finishes. The rear seats are also reported to be less spacious than expected, with limited legroom and headroom due to the low front seats and sloping roofline. Furthermore, the rear seats must remain upright if the rear cargo cover is in place, limiting flexibility for rear passengers.
In conclusion, the Genesis GV60 has several common problems that owners have reported, including electrical failure during operation, charging network reliability, manufacturing issues, and interior materials and design. These issues may affect the vehicle's safety, reliability, and overall satisfaction for owners. It is essential for Genesis to address these concerns to ensure the GV60 meets the high standards expected from a luxury electric vehicle.
What is the problem with the Genesis GV60?
What Owners Say. "Starting at about 5k miles, at 48 amps AC level 2, the module was overheating and caused the charging to shut off. We were using the recommended home charger within the vehicles advertised parameters. The overheating was progressive and eventually it wouldn't charge at all.
What is the problem with the Genesis EV?
Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis have issued a recall for 147,110 EVs over a damaged Integrated Charging Control Unit. The damaged component can stop charging the 12-volt battery, causing a loss of power to the wheels.
What should I pay for a new GV60?
The price of the 2024 Genesis GV60 starts at $53,350 and goes up to $70,900 depending on the trim and options.
- Standard. $53,350.
- Advanced. $61,900.
- Performance. $70,900.
What is the GV60 comparable to?
Cars similar to 2024 Genesis GV60. Though the Tesla Model Y is perhaps the GV60's toughest competitor and boasts longer range, shoppers shouldn't overlook the Genesis cousins, the Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5, which offer similar amenities at a lower price point.

- Date Of Incident: 2022-12-11
- Date Complaint: 2024-09-13
- VIN: KMUKEDTB0PU
- Components: BACK OVER PREVENTION,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: My car has malfunctioned under the following circumstances: While attempting to make an unprotected left turn at a traffic light intersection (there is no left turn only light) through active lanes of opposing traffic where there is no median lane and no protective barriers between opposite directions of traffic, my vehicle has executed emergency braking on 8 separate occasions. How it happens: I wait for the last opposing traffic car to clear out from the intersection and begin to make my left turn through the intersection. 10 feet into the intersection, where now I'm in opposing traffic lanes, the car initiates sudden and immediate emergency braking. The car is brought to a jarring complete stop and becomes immobilized, hitting the accelerator pedal does not move the car. The proximity sensors are going off, the blind spot sensors are going off, the collision warnings are going off and I am unable to move the vehicle for 3 seconds. Then all the sensors and warnings clear and the accelerator pedal starts to work again. Meanwhile, there is no car in sight. By the time I started making the left turn, the closest vehicle was about 30 feet behind me going the opposite direction in opposing traffic lanes. It appears my car's sensors are picking up the car that is behind me and thinks it is coming towards me rather than away from me while I have my turn signal indicator on. The car is trying to prevent a collision that it thinks will happen but in reality that car is going in the opposite direction and is well behind me. This has happened 3 times. Other times in the same exact type of turn, the car will initiate emergency braking that brings me to a 5 mph crawl and disables the accelerator pedal. So it brings me to a crawl and I lose the ability to accelerate while in the middle of an active intersection. This has happened 5 times. Inspected by dealership and corporate engineer 10 times. Several near accidents that would have hospitalized us. We have dashcam footage.

- Date Of Incident: 2024-08-30
- Date Complaint: 2024-08-31
- VIN: KMUKCDTC6PU
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: While driving down my driveway, heard a pop around the backseat on the passenger side. Right after received the following alert "Check Vehicle electric system", after driving the car for another 2-3 minutes received the following alert "Stop Vehicle and Check power supply" along with the car beeping aggressively when this came up. Returned to my house as felt unsafe to continue driving my car not knowing if the car will randomly die on me. Looking into this looks like it is associated with the ICCM which has been the subject of two recalls for which my car has had prior to this occuring.

- Date Of Incident: 2024-07-04
- Date Complaint: 2024-07-08
- VIN: KMUKEDTB1PU
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: I was reversing into my garage when I suddenly heard a loud audible pop from the back seat. I immediately knew that the High Voltage Fuse and the ICCU completely failed. A "Check Electric Vehicle System" warning showed on the dash and a "Stop vehicle and check power supply" warning appeared shortly thereafter. I noticed also that the car refused to charge with my Level 2 EVSE and the car kept saying a "Charging Unsuccessful" message. I checked my 12v battery with a multi-meter and it still showed 12.4 volts and slowly depleting. When the ICCU was functioning, it would show 14v (since it was charging the 12v battery). Furthermore, I checked with my OBD scanner any codes it would spit out and it was the dreaded P1A9096 code that a recent TSB recall check was for. I was completely up-to-date with the recall fixes and even had my ICCU software updated just 6 weeks ago and yet the ICCU still failed. Thankfully, this incident did not occur on the highway otherwise losing power on the highway can lead to an accident that can cause major injuries and/or fatalities.

- Date Complaint: 2024-06-05
- VIN: KMUKEDTB8PU

Genesis Gv60 2023
- Date Of Incident: 2024-05-22
- Date Complaint: 2024-05-25
- VIN: KMUKCDTC1PU
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: The vehicle is advertised as supporting 48amp level 2 charging. After approximately one year of ownership, high amperage charging lead to overheating at the charging port, causing charging to produce errors and fail. Hyundai/Genesis released a software patch to detect overheating and throttle the amperage. This does not resolve the physical hardware that is overheating. This solution leaves the car in an unsafe operating posture where overheating could continue, leading to potentially unsafe circumstances when the vehicle is located in a garage attached to a home.

- Date Of Incident: 2023-03-04
- Date Complaint: 2024-03-04
- VIN: KMUKEDTB6PU
- Components: SEAT BELTS,SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: 1. Navigtion wrong directions 2. The battery charge runs out too quickly *I said several times that the brakes and driver's seat belt were strange, seat belt wasn't locked no tighter If the seat belt did not work, there was no point in wearing it, so I experienced a big disappointment. so I ended up having it serviced for the second time, but the brakes are still working. One of the three recall problems with this car is the all wheel drive powertrain system, and it seems to be known as April 2023, but I signed a contract for the second car in September and it was finally fixed last month, which was February. The sign doesn't appear, but I can't confirm that it was fixed. The dealer who received the service was also incredible. Still tunes ️ sign on and off
Genesis Gv60 2023
- Date Of Incident: 2023-12-16
- Date Complaint: 2024-01-09
- VIN: KMUKEDTB8PU
- Components: SUSPENSION
- Summary: From the service report: " SCANNED FOUND NO TROUBLE CODES IN SYSTEM PUT VEHICLE ON LIFT AND INSPECTED FOUND LEFT REAR AXLE FAILED INTERNALLY NEEDS NEW AXLE TECH REMOVED AND REPLACED AXLE. My experience: I pulled out of our driveway and after ~100 yards I heard a clunk. I thought maybe I hit a pothole. After driving another ~300 yard I accelerated on a freeway onramp when the car lost power and served a bit. There were no warning lights or messages. I was just able to get off the onramp before entering the freeway. The loss of power and lack of some control was dangerous for me and to those behind me. The car was towed to the dealership (Genesis of Meriden). They determined that it was the rear axel. This is quite concerning because the axel or driveshaft had already been replaced as part of a recall. It is also concerning because the car has ~5000 miles.

- Summary: Over the air updates are a prominent feature of the car that Genesis touts. The car's firmware gets updated including operating issues, brake system and throttle campaigns, safety fixes, and navigation get updated. The updates have been a big issue. Earlier this year an OTA update wiped out every user setting including steering, adaptive cruise and other safety related settings. This was an annoyance but could be corrected in a couple of hours for each driver's settings. In June, a new OTA update was sent out that was corrupted. US vehicles had the update get stuck at 63% completion. My car has been at Genesis service and the head unit now needs to be replaced since there is no way (USB stick or OTA) to reset the firmware. This may affect all US vehicles. It is not obvious unless one checks on the firmware version and gets screens like the ones I've attached. Because not being able to receive updates is not obvious, Genesis should be required to notify owners if their firmware has not and cannot be updated without a head unit replacement.

Vehicle year: 2023
I recently purchased a GV60 after waiting a year for a Jaguar I-Pace that was never built and receiving my deposit back. I must say, this car is truly remarkable! Although many reviews compared it to its Kia and Hyundai siblings, I was pleasantly surprised by its performance trim and the most creatively designed interior of any car on the market. Genesis has an amazing team that is given such freedom, making their designs unmatchable. The driving experience is quiet, fast, and smooth, with the only downside being the limited range. I am curious to see if, like MB, they will be able to improve the HP and range via OTA updates.

I completely agree with the previous poster. The only downside I have experienced is the lack of wireless Apple and Android Carplay. However, I am extremely satisfied with the design, acceleration, charging speed, and mileage of the car. According to the specifications, the car is supposed to have a range between 235-248 miles, but my Advanced 2023 GV60 consistently charges up to 275 miles. I always make sure to keep the charge above 50%. It would be great if they sold this car in more states, as I had to ship mine in from California. The car is incredibly quiet, and you can even customize the drive sounds to your liking. I am also pleased to be driving a unique car, as it seems like everyone and their mother has a Tesla. Overall, I am extremely satisfied with my purchase, and I appreciate the excellent service from Genesis so far.
