Why did Ford discontinue the Tempo?
As the 1990s progressed, consumer preferences began shifting towards larger vehicles, and Ford made the strategic decision to discontinue the Tempo and Topaz models.
What car replaced the Ford Tempo?
For the 1995 model year, the Tempo/Topaz four-door sedan was replaced by the Ford Contour (and Mercury Mystique), developed from the Ford Mondeo; the two-door Tempo was not directly replaced.
Why won't my 93 Ford Tempo start?
The most common reasons a Ford Tempo won't start are a dead battery, an alternator problem, or failed starter.
What is the Ford equivalent of the Mercury Topaz?
The Ford Tempo and its twin, the Mercury Topaz, are compact cars that were produced by the Ford Motor Company for model years 1984 to 1994. They were downsized successors to the boxy Ford Fairmont and Mercury Zephyr twins.

It's great to hear that you found the car comfortable and spacious enough for your needs. Although the gas mileage and acceleration may not be the best, it's good to know that the car has a solid feel and excellent handling. It's also great to hear that you liked the car so much that you traded your Cutlass Supreme for another Tempo the following day!

The Ford Tempo is a reliable car that will always meet your needs. Its sporty exterior makes it a great car for getting around town, especially at high mileage.

This car has been incredibly reliable, with only a few new parts needed along the way. I've replaced the tires, relined the brakes, replaced the calipers and rotors, fixed the headlamp switch and horn brushes, replaced the water pump, hoses, belt, gasket, thermostat, and fuel filter, and replaced the front and rear transmission motor mounts, tie rod front right, and wheel bearings right and left front. I always make sure to regularly check the fluids, change the oil, and perform tune-ups when needed. It's a 4 cylinder, fuel injection, front wheel drive car.

I see that you've owned this car as both your first and second car. It's great to hear that you were able to purchase it for such a reasonable price of 300 dollars. Although it required frequent repairs, it's good to know that they were never anything too serious. However, it did seem to have a tendency to leak fluids quite often. It's worth noting that fluid leaks are common for this car, so it's important to regularly check the fluids and consider purchasing a PIG mat to place under the engine when parking.

In 1990, I purchased a car because it was affordable. Unfortunately, I experienced some issues with the paint, interior, and overheating within the first six months. One time, while picking up my wife from the dealership, we heard a great sound when cranking the engine. However, while adjusting the mirrors, the mirror on the passenger door fell out of its housing. After a year, I decided to trade it in for a Geo Prizm, which proved to be much more reliable.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my first car, a Ford. It was a great car when I first got it - it looked nice and handled well. However, after about 3 years, I noticed that the clear coating over the paint started to peel away, which was a bit disappointing. I've also noticed that this seems to be a common issue with Fords. I reached out to Ford about it, but unfortunately, they denied any problems with the paint. Despite this issue, the car has been generally reliable for me over the years. However, it's now 11 years old and I think it's time to start looking for a new vehicle. I've been putting about $1,500 into it annually and I don't trust it on the interstate anymore - it sounds like a sick dog once I take it over 55 MPH. Thanks for listening to my story!

Hi there! As a high school student, I've been relying on this car for a while now, but after 150,000 miles, it seems to have run into some issues. One of the front ball joints needs to be replaced, and both rear strut mounts have broken in half, causing some loud banging noises. Despite all this, 'Ned' still manages to get me where I need to go. However, as I start to travel more, I'm looking for something a bit more reliable. Do you have any suggestions?
Tatum Stiedemann 2025-01-07
Vehicle year: 1994
This American car has been fairly reliable with over 100k miles. Here's my list of repairs: a partial transmission replacement for $700 at 80k miles, brake repairs for $40 and $90, replacement of 6 window lifters (which was a pain), suspension and tie rod repairs for $400 at 70k miles, a starter replacement for $125 at 100k miles, and a pending radiator repair. It just needs a small fix for the A/C. Anyone who expects too much from life probably shouldn't choose the Tempo, but it's a good cheap car. It's perfect for your high school kid to drive without worrying about ruining it.
