2022 Ford Ranger problems

ford logo

The Ford Ranger is a compact or mid-size pickup marketed globally by Ford over a series of generations, varying between both in-house or outside development and manufacturing — and with a hiatus in North America from 2011–2018.

Debuting as a compact pickup in North America in 1982 for the 1983 model year, the Ranger was later introduced in some South American countries. From 1998 to 2011, the Ranger nameplate was used for models developed by Mazda for sale outside the North American market. In 2011, Ford introduced the first Ranger based on the T6 platform. Considered a mid-size pickup truck, the model was developed in-house by Ford Australia. In that same year, the North American-market Ranger was discontinued, leaving the T6 platform-based Ranger as the sole Ranger model worldwide.

For the 2019 model year, the Ranger was reintroduced in North America using the globally-marketed T6 model. It is manufactured at the Michigan Assembly Plant at Wayne, Michigan. The Ranger is smaller than the F-150 and larger than the Maverick in the Ford North American pickup truck range, while for markets outside the Americas it is typically the only Ford pickup offered for sale.

The second generation of the T6-based Ranger was released in 2021 for worldwide markets, using a revised T6 platform.

Negative 2022 Ford Ranger car reviews

  1. Alphonso Nader 2024-11-07

The truck had some challenges. Firstly, getting in the truck was obstructed by the front pillar, making it difficult to enter. Secondly, the truck's throttle response had a delay, which impacted braking and reaction timing. It's no wonder that when I picked up the truck, it was marked by the rental agency with a ding on the front bumper. The center console seemed like an afterthought, fitting into the leftover space of the design. The visibility was poor, especially for taller individuals. The truck had little feel for the road when steering, which could be acceptable for those with weaker arms or hands, but I felt like I was being disallowed to make the decision. Back-up visibility was terrible, making steering a total nuisance. Although the truck felt sturdy and strong, the overall awkwardness was a bit of a hardship. It seems like the truck was designed for more petite folks looking for the strength of a 1/2 ton truck.

  2. Demond Grimes 2024-10-26

Ford's quality has taken a hit. However, I am confident that the issues I experienced with my truck are not representative of the brand as a whole. The scratches on the dash and floor console, as well as the easily scratched door panels, were disappointing. Additionally, the brakes did not meet my expectations. As a lifelong Ford owner, I was disappointed with this experience. I trust that Ford will take the necessary steps to address these issues and improve their quality control.

  3. Jamaal Hettinger 2024-06-23

The battery issue may arise after a year or two, with 'Battery Saver Mode' notifications on Fordpass, and may result in a dead battery that needs to be jumped or charged. Some customers have reported that Ford and the dealerships have not been responsive to their complaints. If you drive your car daily, you may not experience any issues. However, if you leave it at the airport for a week-long vacation, you may need to jump-start it upon your return. In my personal experience, I sold my 2-year old XLT with 8,000 miles within 24 hours of the dealership telling me that there was nothing wrong with the battery or electrical system.

  4. Emerson Conroy 2024-03-17

Although my 2021 Ranger Tremor has some issues, I have decided to sell it before 8,000 miles. The engine noise is noticeable, but Ford has made some efforts to filter out the direct injection clacking. Despite having a 4-cylinder and 10 gears, I have only been able to achieve 17.2 mpg in the city and 19.8 on the highway. The transmission can be slow to react, but it is still a reliable vehicle. The suspension can make some noise, but it is due to the FOX shocks. The steering is sensitive, but it is still manageable. The dashboard center-stack design could be improved, but it is still functional. The TREMOR sticker may not be applied level, but it is a minor issue. The included skid plate is thin metal, but it is still effective. The brake feel could be improved, but it is still safe to drive. Overall, the 2021 Ranger Tremor is a reliable truck with some minor issues that can be addressed. The Nissan has better towing and power than the Toyota Tacoma. However, it is important to note that most mid-size truck users do not require 7,000 lbs. of towing capacity. Additionally, the Nissan lacks a factory brake controller option and has brakes that are not suitable for towing such heavy loads. Many users prefer a naturally aspirated 6-cylinder engine for its reliability, which the Nissan offers. The new engine/transmission combo in the Nissan is a great improvement. The engine/transmission tuning in the Nissan is much smoother than in other trucks. The A/C in the Nissan can be improved, especially in hot climates like Georgia. It sometimes struggles to cool down the cabin, requiring the user to blast it. This is not a problem unique to the Nissan, as other cars also struggle in such conditions.

I recently purchased a '21 Ranger to replace my old '04 Colorado. While I appreciate the exterior styling, I must say that the interior is made of cheap plastic bits. Additionally, I find the automatic systems (lighting/chimes/auto on-off, etc) without manual controls to be quite annoying. At 6'3, I didn't realize how large and high off the ground this vehicle is, so it will take some getting used to. The performance of the Ranger is a night and day difference from the Colorado, but the controls don't feel intuitive and their placement seems not very well thought through. Overall, the fit and finish is mediocre, not great/not bad, just could be a little better. Value is a relative thing and is different for everyone, but personally, I feel the price is a bit much for what you get. If you take away all of the many Ranger emblems letting everyone know it's a

I have an extended cab, so if we need more passenger space, we can use my car. It looks good and I've received a lot of compliments on it. It also has many safety features that other trucks in its class don't have. It's quite comfortable and I'm really pleased with my purchase!

  2. Arthur Padberg 2024-11-29

I haven't had it for very long, but so far it's been a great little truck.

  3. Vidal Senger 2024-11-24

You did a great job handling the vehicle! It has good power and a smooth ride.

  4. Ezra Kemmer 2024-11-17

Congratulations on your new 2021 Ford Ranger Roush! It's great to hear that you're enjoying it so much. The stunning exterior design and perfect interior must make every drive a pleasure. It sounds like you have some exciting plans to add even more power to your truck with the air intake and tuning. While it may come with a higher price tag, it's clear that the value you're getting is worth it. Thank you for sharing your positive experience with us!

  5. Harmon Keebler 2024-11-17

I come from a Ford family, and I still have my father's one-ton 1999 Ford F350 V10. Now, I get to add a 2022 Ford Ranger 4x4. As a senior citizen living in snow country and in my late 60s, I feel safe with my new truck. I love the high visibility it provides on the road, as well as the comfort it offers. My son recently traded in his Ford Ranger 4x4 for a 2022 Ford Ranger Tremor, which has more gadgets. I almost purchased his old truck as I love driving it. When it snowed, my 2018 Ford Escape had trouble getting out of the driveway, but his Ranger had no problems. Thanks to the tow package, it has a better cooling system and will not overheat as much as regular cars, especially in the hot deserts of Arizona.
