1999 Acura 3.0l problems

The Acura TLX is a four-door entry-level luxury sedan sold by Acura, a luxury division of Honda, since 2014. It is the successor to both the TL and TSX models. As of 2021, the discontinuation of the RLX leaves the TLX as the flagship sedan in Acura's lineup.

Design history

The Acura TLX was first shown as the "TLX Prototype", a sedan designed in Acura's Los Angeles Design Studio, as a replacement of the TL and TSX sedans. The production version was unveiled in April at the 2014 New York International Auto Show. Sales began in August, the TLX entered production during July at Marysville, Ohio, United States.

First generation (UB1/UB2/UB3/UB4; 2015)

Two powertrain options are available. A 2.4-liter four-cylinder DOHC i-VTEC engine with direct injection was offered with front-wheel drive only, mated to a dual-clutch transmission and all-wheel steering (P-AWS). This model's chassis code is UB1. The Honda designed dual clutch transmission is the first to use a torque converter, which absorbs transmission gear shift shock, thus reducing NVH. The engine is rated at 206 hp (154 kW; 209 PS) with an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 24 mpg‑US (9.8 L/100 km; 29 mpg‑imp)/35 mpg‑US (6.7 L/100 km; 42 mpg‑imp)/28 mpg‑US (8.4 L/100 km; 34 mpg‑imp) (city/highway/combined) compared to 22 mpg‑US (11 L/100 km; 26 mpg‑imp)/31 mpg‑US (7.6 L/100 km; 37 mpg‑imp)/26 mpg‑US (9.0 L/100 km; 31 mpg‑imp) (city/highway/combined) from the previous TSX. Honda estimates that the six-cylinder model is 1.5 seconds faster from 0 to 60 mph (0 to 97 km/h).

A 3.5-liter direct injected SOHC VTEC V-6 with cylinder deactivation (VCM) is mated to Honda's first time use of a 9-speed automatic transmission (sourced from ZF), available with either P-AWS or all-wheel drive (SH-AWD). The SH-AWD system uses hydraulic clutches instead of the electromagnetic clutch packs found on the previous TL which significantly cuts weight, size and cost. The engine is rated at 290 hp (216 kW; 294 PS) and front-wheel drive models deliver 21 mpg‑US (11 L/100 km; 25 mpg‑imp)/34 mpg‑US (6.9 L/100 km; 41 mpg‑imp)/25 mpg‑US (9.4 L/100 km; 30 mpg‑imp) (city/highway/combined) while all-wheel drive models are rated at 21 mpg‑US (11 L/100 km; 25 mpg‑imp)/31 mpg‑US (7.6 L/100 km; 37 mpg‑imp)/25 mpg‑US (9.4 L/100 km; 30 mpg‑imp). Model codes are UB2 for the front-wheel drive and UB3 for the SH-AWD, which comes standard with a "Technology Package". TLX models configured with the V6 engine lose nearly 150 lb (68 kg) compared to the FWD TL, and over 225 lb (102 kg) compared to the SH-AWD TL.

Overall length compared to the previous TL was reduced by 3.8 inches (97 mm) while the wheelbase maintains the same length. As with the ninth-generation Accord, the TLX loses the front double wishbone suspension of the TSX and TL in favor of a MacPherson strut arrangement, and loses the TL's all-aluminum front subframe in favor of a lower cost friction stir welded aluminum and steel piece.

To significantly cut down on interior noise, triple door seals are used as well as additional sound insulation.

Common 1999 Acura 3.0l problems

The 1999 Acura CL 3.0L is a popular car, but it has some common problems that owners have reported.

One issue that is often mentioned is the transmission slipping in the first and second gears, especially when the car is cold. This problem can be caused by a faulty transmission solenoid, which can be tested using a multimeter and a voltage meter. If the solenoid is found to be faulty, it can be replaced to fix the issue.

Another common problem with the 1999 Acura CL 3.0L is the engine stalling or hesitating, particularly when the car is idling. This issue can be caused by a variety of factors, including a dirty or clogged throttle body, a faulty mass air flow sensor, or a bad ignition coil. These problems can be diagnosed and fixed by a mechanic, but they can also be prevented by regular maintenance and tune-ups.

The 1999 Acura CL 3.0L also has some known issues with the suspension and steering. Some owners have reported problems with the steering feeling loose or sloppy, which can be caused by worn out steering rack bushings or a leaking power steering system. The suspension can also develop problems over time, such as worn out struts or shocks, which can cause the car to feel bouncy or unstable.

The car's audio system is also known to be a weak point, with many owners reporting poor sound quality from the factory speakers and stereo. Upgrading the speakers and stereo can significantly improve the sound quality, but this can be a time-consuming and expensive process.

In addition to these specific issues, the 1999 Acura CL 3.0L can also suffer from general wear and tear, especially if the car has high mileage. Rubber components, such as hoses and belts, can dry out and crack over time, which can lead to leaks and other problems. The suspension and steering components can also wear out, which can affect the car's handling and ride quality.

To avoid these problems, it is important to perform regular maintenance on the 1999 Acura CL 3.0L. This includes changing the oil and filters regularly, checking the brakes and tires, and inspecting the suspension and steering components. It is also a good idea to have the car inspected by a mechanic on a regular basis, to catch any potential problems before they become serious.

In summary, the 1999 Acura CL 3.0L is a reliable and fun-to-drive car, but it can suffer from some common problems, including transmission slipping, engine stalling, suspension and steering issues, and poor audio quality. Regular maintenance and inspections can help prevent these problems and keep the car running smoothly.

Is the 1999 Acura TL fast?

The TL's Anna, Ohio-built, 225-horse SOHC V-6, featuring variable-valve timing and a smooth-running 60-degree angle between cylinder banks, pushes the 3.2TL 0-60 mph in a quick 7.4 seconds.

What does p0401 mean on Acura TL?

Check engine light on with DTC's PO401 (insufficient EGR flow) or P1491 (insufficient EGR lift), this problem is due to the EGR port being clogged causing the failure. Honda has issued a TSB (Technical Service Bulletins) TSB-99-085 for the corrective action for cleaning the EGR port and installing a new EGR pipe kit.

Is Acura TL a reliable car?

RepairPal gave the Acura TL a reliability rating of 4.0 out of 5.0, and it placed 6th out of 31 luxury cars in its segment. The TL also has excellent ownership costs, low severity of repairs, and rarely develops major issues. The Acura TL can hit 100,000 miles or more without issue.

Does the 1999 Acura TL have VTEC?

The heart of the new TL is a compact, new 3.2-liter, 225-horsepower VTEC V-6.

  • VIN: 19UYA2258XL
  • Components: POWER TRAIN
  • Summary: I HAVE HAD THIS VEHICLE NOW FOR ONLY THREE WEEKS AND I HAVE HAD THE MOST PROBLEMS OUT OF THE TRANSMISSION. IT SHIFTS HARD TO THE POINT THAT IT ALMOST STOPS WHILE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC. IT DRIVES SMOOTH WHILE GETTING TO A HIGHER SPEED HOWEVER THIS IS NOT SAFE FOR ANYONE. THE TRANSMISSION IN THESE VEHICLES APPARENTLY HAVE BEEN PROBLEMATIC AS I HAVE BEEN FINDING OUT AND NO ONE WANTS TO OWN UP TO IT, OR EVEN REPLACE WITH A NON FAULTY TRANSMISSION. THE HARDSHIFTS START WHEN I AM DRIVING AROUND TOWN, OR DRIVING AT SPEEDS UNDER 35. I HAVE TO DRIVE IN DRIVE 3 GEAR JUST FOR A SMOOTHER RIDE. IF MY VEHICLE WAS TO ALL OF A SUDDEN NOT SHIFT I WOULD BE IN AN ACCIDENT. ALL THESE TRANSMISSIONS SHOULD BE ON A RECALL LIST. YES IT MAY BE EXPENSIVE BUT WHAT WILL BE MORE EXPENSIVE IS SOMEONE SUING THE CAR MANUFACTURER FOR MAKING FAULTY CAR TRANSMISSIONS AND NOT RECALLING THEM OR COMPENSATING OWNERS NO MATTER IF IT IS BRAND NEW OR USED. THIS CARS ARE CAUSING ACCIDENTS, LIVES POSSIBLY TAKEN, TAKING HARD EARN MONEY FROM PEOPLE'S POCKETS, AND SO MUCH MORE. IM A HONDA GIRL AND I AM DISAPPOINTED IN HONDA/ACURA.SOME ONE NEEDS TO GET IN TOUCH WITH THEIR SOUL AND DIG DEEP DOWN INSIDE AND ASK WOULD YOU WANT YOUR LOVED ONE GOING THROUGH THIS OR LOSING THEIR LIFE OVER A FAULTY CAR. IS IT WORTH IT!!!!! FIX OUR CARS NO MATTER IF UNDER WARRANTY OR NOT..... SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE NOW!!!!
