The Ford E-Series (also known as the Ford Econoline, Ford Econovan or Ford Club Wagon) is a range of full-size vans manufactured and marketed by the Ford Motor Company. Introduced for 1961 as the replacement of the Ford F-Series panel van, four generations of the model line have been produced. Marketed for both cargo and passenger transport configurations, the E-Series has been designed with multiple design variations for both retail and commercial sale, including vans, and commercial-grade cutaway van chassis and stripped chassis (a chassis without bodywork).

With over 8.2 million units sold since 1961, the Ford E-Series is the third-best selling van line in history (outranked only by the Ford Transit and Volkswagen Transporter). Ford retired the E-Series passenger and cargo vans after 2014, replacing them with the Ford Transit. As of current production, the E-Series remains offered exclusively in cutaway and stripped-chassis configurations. In 2021, the model line entered its 60th year of production (becoming the second current Ford line to do so).

The E-Series (cutaway/stripped chassis) is assembled by Ford at its Ohio Assembly facility (Avon Lake, Ohio), which has produced the model line since 1975. Prior to its closure, Lorain Assembly (Lorain, Ohio) assembled the model line from 1961 to 2005.

Common 2000 Ford Econoline problems

Common Problems with the Ford Econoline 2000:

1. Transmission Issues

One of the most common problems with the Ford Econoline 2000 is transmission issues. These problems can range from difficulty shifting gears to complete transmission failure. In some cases, the transmission may need to be replaced entirely.

2. Engine Stalling

Another common problem with the Ford Econoline 2000 is engine stalling. This can occur at any time, but it is more likely to happen when the engine is hot. The engine may stall when the vehicle is idling or when it is being driven. This problem can be caused by a variety of factors, including faulty sensors or a malfunctioning fuel pump.

3. Electrical System Malfunctions

The electrical system in the Ford Econoline 2000 can also cause problems. These malfunctions can range from minor issues, such as blown fuses, to more serious problems, such as a malfunctioning alternator. In some cases, the electrical system may need to be completely overhauled.

4. Fuel System Issues

Fuel system issues are also common in the Ford Econoline 2000. These problems can be caused by a variety of factors, including a clogged fuel filter or a faulty fuel pump. In some cases, the entire fuel system may need to be replaced.

5. Suspension and Steering Components Wearing Out Prematurely

The suspension and steering components in the Ford Econoline 2000 can also wear out prematurely. This can be caused by a variety of factors, including heavy use or poor maintenance. In some cases, the entire suspension and steering system may need to be replaced.

6. Rusting Body Panels

Rusting body panels are also a common problem with the Ford Econoline 2000. This can be caused by exposure to road salt or other corrosive substances. In some cases, the entire body panel may need to be replaced.

7. Sticking Calipers

Sticking calipers are another issue that can occur with older models of the Ford Econoline Van due to corrosion buildup inside their components over time. This prevents them from releasing properly after being applied during braking maneuvers which leads not only reduced stopping power but also increased wear on other parts such as rotors and pads as well since they must work harder than normal in order compensate for lack of release from caliper components themselves.

8. Troubleshooting Electrical Problems

To troubleshoot electrical problems in the Ford Econoline 2000, it is important to first check the battery terminal and its connections for corrosion or damage. If the battery is corroded or damaged, it may need to be replaced. Additionally, make sure that all of the cables are securely connected to both the battery and starter motor. If any of these connections are loose or corroded, they should be cleaned and tightened as needed.

Next, inspect all fuses in the fuse box for signs of damage such as melted plastic or discoloration around the metal contacts inside each fuse holder. If a fuse appears to be damaged it should be replaced with one that has an identical amperage rating as indicated on its label.

If neither of these steps resolves your issue then you may need to check other components such as relays and switches which control power flow throughout your vehicle’s electrical system. These components can become worn over time due to normal wear-and-tear so if any appear faulty they should also be replaced with new ones that match their original specifications exactly.

Finally, if none of these steps have resolved your issue then you may need professional assistance from a qualified mechanic who specializes in Ford Econoline vans in order to diagnose and repair more complex electrical problems such as wiring faults or short circuits within your vehicle’s system itself.

9. Brake Issues

The Ford Econoline Van is a popular vehicle for commercial and personal use. However, like any other vehicle, it can experience brake issues. The most common brake issues found on the Ford Econoline Van include low or high tire pressure, headlights or daytime running lights being on, lane-keeping assist system working, anti-lock brake system malfunction, and traction control system engagement. It is important to address these issues promptly to ensure the safety of the vehicle's occupants and others on the road.

Why was Ford Econoline discontinued?

In June 2014, production of E-Series passenger and cargo vans was discontinued as sales of the Ford Transit began in North America; at the time of its retirement, the model line had been the best-selling full-size van line in the United States since 1980.

What is the mpg on a 2000 Ford Econoline e350?

Based on data from 17 vehicles, 1,240 fuel-ups and 380,837 miles of driving, the 2000 Ford E-350 Econoline gets a combined Avg MPG of 14.34 with a 0.36 MPG margin of error.

How many miles can a Ford e350 van last?

If the vehicle has been maintained properly, there's no reason* why it won't last another 100,000 miles or more. 113,000 miles isn't unreasonable for a nine-year-old car. If your mechanic says it's in good shape, it's probably got plenty of mileage left in it.

How long do Ford Econoline vans last?

What is the realistic life expectancy for a well-maintained gasoline cargo van such as a Ford econoline? If it doesn't rust away, a well maintained van can last INDEFINITELY, compared to what it costs to buy a NEW van to replace your old one.

FUEL SYSTEM, DIESEL PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2010-10-14
  • VIN: 1FTSS34F8YH
  • Components: FUEL SYSTEM, DIESEL
  • Summary: I WAS DRIVING A FORD DIESEL VAN NORTH ON HIGHWAY 31 TOWARDS PENNINGTON, NJ, WHEN THE TRUCK STARTED ACTING UP. ULTIMATELY, IT STALLED - RIGHT THERE ON THE HIGHWAY; 4 LANES, SEMI TRUCKS COMING AROUND A BEND @ 40 + MPH, AND NO SHOULDER. I TOLD MY HELPER TO LEAVE THE TRUCK BECAUSE I WAS SURE WE WERE GOING TO GET HIT. NO WAY A TRACTOR TRAILER, AT THOSE SPEEDS, COULD STOP IN TIME. SEVERAL SEMI'S HAD TO CUT OFF CARS IN THE LEFT LANE TO AVOID US. I THOUGHT FOR SURE I WAS DEAD. AFTER SWEATING IT OUT, I FINALLY GOT THE TRUCK STARTED AND GOT TO A SIDE STREET, AT ABOUT 5 MPH. THAT'S WHEN I CALLED AAA & GOT THE TRUCK TOWED TO MY FORD DEALER, WHERE THEY WANT $2500 TO REPAIR WHAT THEY CALL " FUEL TANK DELAMINATION". I NEVER HEARD OF SUCH A THING AND NEITHER DID ANYONE I SPOKE WITH IN THE AUTO REPAIR INDUSTRY SO I GOOGLED IT: FORD DIESEL FUEL TANK PROBLEMS, AND AS IT TURNS OUT, THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF VEHICLES OUT THERE WITH THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. I"M SURPRISED NO ONE HAS DIED YET, BUT I GUESS THAT'S WHAT IT WILL TAKE, MAYBE WHEN A COUPLE OF KIDS DIE, FORD WILL DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT, IF IT DOESN'T COST TOO MUCH - OF COURSE. TO ALLEVIATE THIS "PROBLEM," THE FORD DEALER IS, IN EFFECT, GOING TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE FUEL DELIVERY SYSTEM, AT THE CONSUMERS COST. NEW FUEL TANK, NEW FUEL TRANSFER PUMP, CLEAN OUT THE FUEL LINES, REPLACE FUEL FILTER, CLEAN INJECTORS, SO, BEND OVER. PS REALLY HOPE NOBODY HAS TO DIE - BUT THAT'S YOUR CALL. *TR

FUEL SYSTEM, OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2010-01-31
  • VIN: 1FTSE34F5YH
  • Components: FUEL SYSTEM, OTHER
  • Summary: I HAVE A 2000 FORD E350 THAT STARTED RUNNING ROUGH AND EVENTUALLY LOST POWER ON THE FREEWAY WHEN IT WAS NEEDED I DID'NT KNOW WHAT HAPPENING TO THE VEHICLE IT JUST STARTED SPUTTERING AND SPEWING THICK SMOKE OUT OF THE TAIL PIPE. I LIMPED THE VAN TO THE DEALETSHIP AND AFTER ALL DIAGNOSIS AND REPLACEMENT OF CERTAIN FUEL PARTS WAS SAID AND DONE IT WAS A CLOGGED FUEL SENDING UNIT DUE TO A RUSTY FUEL TANK CAUSED BY DELAMINATION OF THE LINING INSIDE THE TANK. THESE PARTICALS OF DELAMINATION AND THE RUST OF THE EXPOSED METAL OF THE TANK CAUSED THE SENDING UNIT TO BE CLOGGED TO THE POINT OF REPLACEMENT, THE SENDING UNIT ALONE WAS OVER $600.00 OF THE $1600.00 BILL, IT WAS EXPLAINED TO ME THAT THE PROBLEM OF THE CLOGGED FUEL SENDING UNIT WILL HAPPENING AGAIN IN ABOUT A YEAR DUE TO THE TANK FAILING. I AM VERY CONCERNED WITH LOSING POWER AGAIN AND NOT BEING ABLE TO GET OFF THE ROAD ON A MAJOR FREEWAY AND SPEWING THE BIG CLOUD SMOKE OUT THE TAIL PIPE WHEN THIS HAPPENS AGAIN AND POSSIBLY BLINDING THE DRIVERS BEHIND ME. I SPOKE WITH THE DEALER, I WAS ADVISED THAT THE TANKS ARE MADE OF PLASTIC NOW TO AVOID/FIX THIS PROBLEM. I SPOKE WITH FORD MOTOR CORP., THEY STATED THAT MY VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANY AND THEY WOULD NOT COVER THIS UNVOIDABLE PROBLEM. I HAVE TAKEN VERY GOOD CARE OF THIS VEHICLE, IT IS A SERVICE VEHICLE FOR MY COMPANY AND WHEN IT IS DOWN I DO NOT MAKE ANY MONEY. I DO EVERYTHING I CAN TO PERFORM THE PREVENITIVE MAINTENANCE, THERE IS NOTHING I COULD HAVE DONE TO AVOID THIS SAFETY ISSUE, FORD KNOWS THE PROBLEM/SAFETY ISSUE IS THERE AND DID NOT WANT TO HELP OUT AT ALL. AFTER ALL THE RESEARCH THAT I HAVE DONE SINCE PAYING THE BILL AT THE DEALERSHIP I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED TO HEAR WHAT OTHERS ARE GOING THROUGH AND THE ROUTES THEY ARE TAKING TO TRY TO GET THE PROBLEM RESOLVED, THIS WHY I HAVE WRIITEN YOU THIS LETTER. *TR
