2010 Ford Econoline problems
The Ford E-Series (also known as the Ford Econoline, Ford Econovan or Ford Club Wagon) is a range of full-size vans manufactured and marketed by the Ford Motor Company. Introduced for 1961 as the replacement of the Ford F-Series panel van, four generations of the model line have been produced. Marketed for both cargo and passenger transport configurations, the E-Series has been designed with multiple design variations for both retail and commercial sale, including vans, and commercial-grade cutaway van chassis and stripped chassis (a chassis without bodywork).
With over 8.2 million units sold since 1961, the Ford E-Series is the third-best selling van line in history (outranked only by the Ford Transit and Volkswagen Transporter). Ford retired the E-Series passenger and cargo vans after 2014, replacing them with the Ford Transit. As of current production, the E-Series remains offered exclusively in cutaway and stripped-chassis configurations. In 2021, the model line entered its 60th year of production (becoming the second current Ford line to do so).
The E-Series (cutaway/stripped chassis) is assembled by Ford at its Ohio Assembly facility (Avon Lake, Ohio), which has produced the model line since 1975. Prior to its closure, Lorain Assembly (Lorain, Ohio) assembled the model line from 1961 to 2005.

Common 2010 Ford Econoline problems
The Ford Econoline 2010, also known as the Ford E-Series, is a popular choice for van life and commercial use due to its weight capacity and suspension. However, it is not without its common issues, which can impact its performance and safety. Here are three of the most frequently reported problems based on owner complaints:
- Exhaust Leak from Broken Manifold Bolts: The exhaust manifold is responsible for collecting exhaust gases from the engine and expelling them through the exhaust pipe. The manifold is bolted to the engine, which exposes it to extreme heat and temperature changes. Over time, the area where the manifold is bolted to the engine, known as the head, can expand and contract, causing the bolts to break or rot. This can lead to exhaust leaks, which can be a safety hazard if the gases leak into the engine compartment or cabin. To fix this issue, the studs holding the manifold in place should be inspected, and any broken ones should be replaced. The manifold should also be inspected for cracks or damage.
- Shift Linkage Loose in Steering Column: The shift linkage in the steering column of the Ford Econoline 2010 can become loose, causing difficulty in shifting gears. This issue can be caused by wear and tear on the linkage or a problem with the shift cable. To fix this issue, the shift linkage and cable should be inspected and adjusted or replaced if necessary. This issue can affect the drivability and safety of the vehicle, as it can make it difficult to shift gears while driving.
- Rust On the Van Frame: Rust is a common issue with the Ford Econoline 2010, particularly on the van frame. Rust can weaken the frame and make it more susceptible to damage, which can impact the safety and longevity of the vehicle. Rust can be caused by exposure to road salt, water, and other environmental factors. To prevent and address rust issues, regular inspections and maintenance should be performed, and any rust should be treated and repaired as soon as possible. This issue can affect the structural integrity and safety of the vehicle, making it important to address it promptly.
In conclusion, while the Ford Econoline 2010 is a popular and capable vehicle, it is not without its common issues. Exhaust leaks, shift linkage problems, and rust are all frequent complaints from owners. Regular inspections, maintenance, and repairs can help prevent and address these issues, ensuring the safety and longevity of the vehicle.

2010 Ford Econoline recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 1 recalls for different components of the 2010 Ford Econoline.
- Manufacturer: Ford Motor Company
- Components: POWER TRAIN:CLUTCH ASSEMBLY
- Summary: Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2009-2016 Ford Econoline vehicles equipped with a 5R110W transmission, 5.4L engine, and a school bus or ambulance preparation package. A weld within the coast clutch may fail, causing an unexpected loss of drive power.
- Consequence: A sudden loss of drive power increases the risk of a crash. Transferring occupants of a disabled school bus or ambulance to another vehicle increases their risk of injury.
- Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the single-engaging coast one-way clutch with a new dual-engaging one-way clutch, free of charge. The recall began August 19, 2019. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 19S20.
