The Chrysler PT Cruiser is a compact car that was built by the American company Chrysler from 2001 until 2010. Introduced as a five-door hatchback wagon, a two-door convertible variant was also made from 2005 until 2008.
Originally planned as a Plymouth model, the PT Cruiser was ultimately marketed as a Chrysler when Plymouth was discontinued. Intended to invoke 1930s aesthetics, the exterior of the PT Cruiser was designed by Bryan Nesbitt. The model received an intermediate facelift for the 2006 model year. Interior packaging was noted for its high roof, high h-point seating, and flexible cargo and passenger configurations enabled by a multi-level rear cargo shelf and rear seats a user could fold, tumble, or remove.
The PT Cruiser was produced in Mexico and Austria at the Toluca Car Assembly and Eurostar Automobilwerk factories. By the end of production in July 2010, worldwide production had reached 1.35 million.
In its nameplate, PT stands for "Personal Transport" or "Personal Transportation". PT was the PT Cruiser's product code for the Mexican-made units.

- Summary: I purchased the 2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser on 1/10/2024. I learned that the Chrysler Dealership does not make keys for the vehicle when locked out, nor does it Service the vehicle. They will "address" a Recall Notice and will do an oil change and will do an inspection only. Chrysler Dealership told me to "Come back tomorrow" when a Recall Notice was issued and they said it was not Safety Related, however a Power Steering Pressure Hose was found to be leaking/exploding oil and this IS a safety related issue. I was rear ended 1/23/24 with 2 dogs in the car. I did not purchase Uninsured Motorists Insurance because I thought under CA State Law that I was legally compliant with insurance I had purchased. I thought between two cars in a potential accident, one had to be able to cover fault for any reason if not both equally. I was told by my Insurance to go after the other Man's Insurance, even if he was not the driver and this did not seem right. The other Man's Insurance Policy had lapsed and I was told there is no coverage for being rear ended. The man said I hit him and said something about "not seeing" the light or turn signal which I demonstrated for functionality. Vehicle has been given different assessments and inspections from 1/10 when purchased to present. I paid $500 at one AAA ASE Facility and $15,000 out of Retirment plus hotel for 3 weeks for the vehicle "dying" and the problem cannot be identified. Car is doing weird things mechanically and no one can locate the problem. There is unaddressed Body Damage where the Rear Left Light (plastic and housing) broke. The vehicle has to have body repair and a new light ordered at a cost greater than what is available through an Auto Dismantler. Chrysler does not make parts for this vehicle. There was rust and corrosion in coolant and metal found in Transmission. I paid full price for a used Transmission. I need someone to review traffic footage to determine when the window went down and dog went out and why

- Summary: I'm driving along, cruise set to 65. Ac on. Radio on. No sounds or weird feels from the car. Every light on the dash comes on. They went off after two seconds, with the seatbelt light being last to shut off. Then the car hits 113k miles about ten miles later and just... shuts off. All gauges drop to zero. Ac shuts off. Radio still playing. Full tank of gas. Headlights still on, brakes worked, power steering worked, and emergency flashers worked. I managed to get out of traffic and pull over without causing an accident. I turn the radio off and turn the key off for a few minutes. It cranked right back up and ran a little rough for a moment before smoothing out. I drove home without incident, but kept the radio and cruise off. And stayed under 65. Thankfully, traffic was light. The car has not been fixed as of this posting, nor has it been seen by anyone due to the weekend. Unsure of when I can get it fixed due to finances, but if this happens in heavy traffic or on one of many roads with no shoulder, lives will be at risk.

Not the quickest of its generation or class, but with a 5-speed manual, it has good acceleration and better gas mileage than with an automatic transmission. The car makes great use of interior space, with tons of cargo options thanks to folding and removable back seats. It is also very stable at highway speeds and has good handling on winding roads. Additionally, with four-wheel disc brakes, this car stops on a dime!

My wife actually picked out this car while we were driving by the dealership. The test drive was satisfactory and the price was right, so we decided to trade in my 97 Stratus ES. Overall, after a year, we are quite satisfied with it. Although there are some issues with the fit of the doors and the motor can be a bit rowdy, and the gas mileage is so-so, all of that disappears when we put the top down. Then, it's all grins (and compliments from bystanders).

I absolutely love my grandmother's Pt! Since I've owned it, it's been an absolute blast. I've only had to change the timing belts twice, and that's it. This little car actually saved my life - I could have died the day I got into a wreck, but the air bags went off and the safety cage and firewall held up. It was a real trooper and I loved it for what it was. If you have anything negative to say about Pts, I'll have to disagree. It was my first car and I beat it up, ran it through rough terrain, and it took it like a champ. P.T. for life!

Your 2008 PT Cruiser has plenty of room and is great for moving furniture. Although the performance with the naturally aspirated 2.4l isn't great, it's not bad once you get it up to highway speeds. The average fuel consumption of about 20 mpg is not great for a car this small. However, the reliability has been fine. I have had to replace a few things over my 9 years of ownership, but it has been no worse than my Accord. Overall, I would definitely buy it again.

My wife owns one of these cars, so I get a chance to drive it occasionally. While I'm not overly impressed with it, I don't hate it either. The acceleration is average, but the engine seems underpowered for the weight of the vehicle. However, the turbo version is better. Perhaps the 5-speed is better suited for the engine, as my wife's car is an automatic. Working on the vehicle can be difficult for many tasks, given that the engine is tightly wedged in the compartment. Changing the timing belt and water pump is a real nightmare, so I let the dealer do that job :) The styling is okay, my wife likes it better than I do. That being said, it is pretty roomy on the inside and can easily fit 5 adults and cargo. The fuel economy suffers due to the weight of the vehicle.

The car runs great and handles well. It's nice and roomy, versatile, and fun to drive. Although there is a squeaking noise going over bumps that sounds like it hasn't been lubed, overall, I like it very much. Unfortunately, the headlights randomly flicker, ranging from mild to severe, with severe being when the dash lights flicker too and then they both blip out and then back on again. I've had it to two different dealers who can't find a thing wrong with it, so I guess it must be possessed. I wouldn't buy another one of these. At first, I loved my car - it was everything I had been looking for! However, after driving it for a little while, I had to change the brakes every 2 months and it started overheating about 3 hours away from home. I replaced the temperature gauge and water pump, but a month later, I had to do it all again! Unfortunately, this car is not reliable and has caused me too many problems, despite only having about 50,000 miles. I have decided to sell it and will not be getting another PT.

I purchased a 2008 PT Cruiser in June of that year. It's a beautiful looking car, but unfortunately, I've been experiencing some issues. I hear a lot of road noise on the driver's side, and despite taking the car back to the dealer several times, they say they can't hear anything. I was also told that the front end being out of alignment is normal for a PT Cruiser, which is disappointing. Additionally, it sounds like my window is down all the time, and I find it difficult to take my eyes off the road. On the bright side, I do get good gas mileage. However, the gas pedal now squeaks, which is frustrating. Overall, I'm not satisfied with my purchase and wouldn't buy another PT Cruiser. Even my daughter refuses to drive it because she's afraid of encountering too many problems.

I must say, I really love the look of this car (I have a convertible) and it's a lot of fun to drive. However, I've had some disappointing experiences with it. First, the computer was faulty and it had to be towed six times before they found the issue. (I found myself standing in a parking lot with a dead car that many times!) Fortunately, it was still under warranty at the time. After that, the issues started piling up: the battery exploded, the air conditioner stopped working and cost a thousand dollars to fix, and there's some kind of short that causes a pop and the dash to go out while I'm driving, which they can't seem to locate. I could go on, but it's really sad because I love this car. Unfortunately, I'm ready to give up on it due to the amount of money I've already had to spend on repairs.
