The Chrysler PT Cruiser is a compact car that was built by the American company Chrysler from 2001 until 2010. Introduced as a five-door hatchback wagon, a two-door convertible variant was also made from 2005 until 2008.
Originally planned as a Plymouth model, the PT Cruiser was ultimately marketed as a Chrysler when Plymouth was discontinued. Intended to invoke 1930s aesthetics, the exterior of the PT Cruiser was designed by Bryan Nesbitt. The model received an intermediate facelift for the 2006 model year. Interior packaging was noted for its high roof, high h-point seating, and flexible cargo and passenger configurations enabled by a multi-level rear cargo shelf and rear seats a user could fold, tumble, or remove.
The PT Cruiser was produced in Mexico and Austria at the Toluca Car Assembly and Eurostar Automobilwerk factories. By the end of production in July 2010, worldwide production had reached 1.35 million.
In its nameplate, PT stands for "Personal Transport" or "Personal Transportation". PT was the PT Cruiser's product code for the Mexican-made units.

- Summary: I purchased the 2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser on 1/10/2024. I learned that the Chrysler Dealership does not make keys for the vehicle when locked out, nor does it Service the vehicle. They will "address" a Recall Notice and will do an oil change and will do an inspection only. Chrysler Dealership told me to "Come back tomorrow" when a Recall Notice was issued and they said it was not Safety Related, however a Power Steering Pressure Hose was found to be leaking/exploding oil and this IS a safety related issue. I was rear ended 1/23/24 with 2 dogs in the car. I did not purchase Uninsured Motorists Insurance because I thought under CA State Law that I was legally compliant with insurance I had purchased. I thought between two cars in a potential accident, one had to be able to cover fault for any reason if not both equally. I was told by my Insurance to go after the other Man's Insurance, even if he was not the driver and this did not seem right. The other Man's Insurance Policy had lapsed and I was told there is no coverage for being rear ended. The man said I hit him and said something about "not seeing" the light or turn signal which I demonstrated for functionality. Vehicle has been given different assessments and inspections from 1/10 when purchased to present. I paid $500 at one AAA ASE Facility and $15,000 out of Retirment plus hotel for 3 weeks for the vehicle "dying" and the problem cannot be identified. Car is doing weird things mechanically and no one can locate the problem. There is unaddressed Body Damage where the Rear Left Light (plastic and housing) broke. The vehicle has to have body repair and a new light ordered at a cost greater than what is available through an Auto Dismantler. Chrysler does not make parts for this vehicle. There was rust and corrosion in coolant and metal found in Transmission. I paid full price for a used Transmission. I need someone to review traffic footage to determine when the window went down and dog went out and why

- Summary: I'm driving along, cruise set to 65. Ac on. Radio on. No sounds or weird feels from the car. Every light on the dash comes on. They went off after two seconds, with the seatbelt light being last to shut off. Then the car hits 113k miles about ten miles later and just... shuts off. All gauges drop to zero. Ac shuts off. Radio still playing. Full tank of gas. Headlights still on, brakes worked, power steering worked, and emergency flashers worked. I managed to get out of traffic and pull over without causing an accident. I turn the radio off and turn the key off for a few minutes. It cranked right back up and ran a little rough for a moment before smoothing out. I drove home without incident, but kept the radio and cruise off. And stayed under 65. Thankfully, traffic was light. The car has not been fixed as of this posting, nor has it been seen by anyone due to the weekend. Unsure of when I can get it fixed due to finances, but if this happens in heavy traffic or on one of many roads with no shoulder, lives will be at risk.

My 2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser GT has 215 horsepower and can easily reach speeds of 120-130 Kilometres per hour on the highways. It has a unique crossover wagon/minivan look that sets it apart from other cars, and it can even take on a Ford Mustang sports car. I haven't pushed the gas pedal to the maximum yet because I'm a little scared of unleashing its full power. The GT version is definitely not a sleeper car like the base model.

This car is a reliable and safe option, as proven by my personal experience of walking away unhurt from a front-end collision at 50 mph after 5 years and 55,000 miles. The leather seats and seat warmers are a luxurious touch, and the top is incredibly easy to put up and down. Despite its poor gas mileage (mid/high teens in the city) and the worst turning radius of any car I have ever driven, it can still easily accommodate 4 passengers and has decent trunk space. While the car does have some significant blind spots when the top is up, overall it is a great choice for those prioritizing safety and reliability.

I bought my PT GT used with about 37k miles. After the dealer performed a realignment, the handling became quite good. I've been in a few low-speed front impact accidents, and the car has protected me quite well and been repairable. In a region of weather extremes (-20 to 105 degrees), I've never once been unable to start my car, outside of my effort to stretch more time out of my battery (college student). I commute to school, about 800 miles a week the last year, and the PT GT is quite an able speeder. It merges quickly and confidently on the highway and can hold 80 mph at a mere 2500 rpm. Much of the car is rock-simple, but the vitals (engine, drivetrain) are rock solid as well.

This car has been an absolute joy to own! I purchased it used in 2007 and it has been consistently reliable. The only issues I have had are age-related, such as a crack in the dashboard (which could have been prevented if I had bought a dash cover), and both hydraulic pistons which hold up the rear lift gate need replacing. Additionally, the headliner is just now slightly peeling back from the front window edge, and the cruise control failed due to a faulty module which Chrysler has known about for years, yet continued to produce and install in many Chrysler models, including its minivans. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find that an engine rebuild for this car is only $1600, which is surprisingly inexpensive and takes only 10 working days. The PT Cruiser shares the same chassis as Chrysler's Neon, and the PT Cruiser is a much heavier car. I have an automatic transmission, which is supplemented by a K&N breather kit that improved gas mileage by almost 2 miles per gallon. This car currently has 178,000 miles on it, and if I rebuild the engine, I am confident I can run it for many years to come!

I'm really disappointed with this car. I bought it as a graduation gift to myself, but it hasn't lived up to my expectations. Unfortunately, I've had to take it to the shop more times than I can count. Even though it has 123,400 miles on it, I've had to change the tires twice, and the brakes make a strange noise. Additionally, there's a loud rattle on the back hatch door. I've had problems with this car since day one. To make matters worse, it failed inspection the year after I bought it because the tint was too dark. I haven't added anything extra to the car, and I'm in need of a reliable family car. It's also not very fuel-efficient, and I have to fill up twice a week just from going to work, picking up my son, and going home. I wouldn't recommend this car to anyone.

As a repeat customer, I did not think to inquire about the car's specifications at the dealership or conduct research beforehand. However, I have noticed a significant difference in performance compared to my previous model. The PT Cruiser is experiencing several issues, including overheating, malfunctioning lights on the left side of the car, and a non-functional horn. Despite having all fuses and lights checked, the cause of these issues remains unknown. Unfortunately, these problems have prevented the car from passing inspection, which is a concern given that it has been owned for less than a year. Additionally, the car requires frequent antifreeze refills to prevent engine damage. It may be best to avoid purchasing a PT Cruiser.

I really want to support American-made cars, but when the builders don't support the buyers, there is a problem. If you're struggling with cleaning the seats, I recommend using Woolite Oxyclean Spray. It removes all stains and makes the seats look new again. Unfortunately, I've had to take this car to the dealership too many times (thank God I have a warranty). I wouldn't recommend this car to consumers, as it's overpriced when new and taking a big chance when buying it used. Lastly, it's a bit of a gas guzzler.

The 2008 PT Cruiser has been a challenging car to own. The bushings have needed replacement three times in just two years, and the engine cooling fan module has also required expensive repairs. Despite these issues, the car does provide good heat in the winter. However, the gas mileage is disappointingly poor for a 4-cylinder car. Overall, it is clear that this car has its drawbacks, but with proper maintenance and care, it can still be a reliable mode of transportation.
