2005 Chevrolet Venture problems
The Chevrolet Venture is a minivan produced by General Motors for the 1997 to 2005 model years. The Chevrolet Venture, along with most of its General Motors minivan siblings, was built at GM's Doraville, Georgia, assembly plant.
Use of name
The Venture name was first used on a 1988 Chevrolet concept car, in this case a full-sized four-door sedan more aerodynamic than the 1991-1996 Chevrolet Caprice.
History
The Venture was introduced in 1996 for the 1997 model year as a replacement for the radically styled Lumina APV. In the United States, it was also sold as the Oldsmobile Silhouette and the Pontiac Trans Sport, which was later renamed as the Pontiac Montana for 1999 (2000 in Canada). The Venture came in three trim levels, the base, LS, and LT. The base models of the Venture were short wheelbase models which came equipped with cloth upholstery, front bucket seats with fixed head restraints, a 2nd-row 2-passenger bench seat, and steel wheels. The LS came in both short and long wheelbases, and offered aluminum wheels, a varied seating configuration, adjustable head restraints, side airbags, power windows (optional on the base models), and a remote keyless entry system. The LT model was an upscale of the LS and was exclusively a long wheelbase model and offered a power driver seat (optional on the base and LS models), optional leather seats, a roof rack (optional on the base and LS models), and a driver side sliding door (optional on the base and LS models from 1997 to 1999). The anti-lock brakes were standard on all Ventures from 1996 to 2002, but became optional on the base models later on.
The Venture and its siblings were powered by GM's 3.4 L LA1 V6, rated at 180 hp (134 kW). After 1999, the engine was slightly redesigned to produce an extra 5 hp (4 kW), for a total of 185 hp (138 kW), and the alarm system for seatbelts, door ajar, low fuel, etc. have been changed. All Ventures used a four-speed automatic transmission. The Venture was one of the few minivans to have an 8-passenger seating configuration as an option when most minivans seated up to 7 passengers. In 2000, the driver side sliding door became standard on all trim levels, when the passenger side only sliding door models of minivans have rapidly fallen out of favor since the 1996 models of Chrysler minivans. The exterior was refreshed in 2001, a back-up alarm was added to indicate possible obstacles behind the vehicle, and all-wheel drive was introduced in 2002. Also for 2002 was a new steering wheel equivalent to the 2000-2005 Chevrolet Impala, replacing the steering wheel equivalent to the 1995-2001 Chevrolet Lumina. New for this generation, cabin air filters were installed, and the filters can be accessed from behind an access panel easily accessed from inside the glove compartment.
The optional 2-3-2 seating configuration was dropped in favor of the more conventional 2-2-3 and 2-3-3 seating configurations. The 2-3-3 was the standard for the Chinese-made Buick GL8, and a 10-seats arranged in a 3-4-3 configuration was used in a Chinese-made version of the Chevrolet Venture for export to the Philippines and Latin America (where it sold alongside the U.S. Venture) where 10-seaters are favored with lower taxes. Reviews and sales were generally lukewarm, especially about the relatively narrow cabin due to being designed for European roads. Models came in both short and long wheelbases, and with optional all-wheel drive. The third row bench seat was designed to fold flat (introduced for 2001 and available on LS and Warner Bros. models), but forming a higher floor unlike the Honda, Mazda and Nissan minivans that folded into a well behind the third row.
The Venture was replaced after 2005 by the Chevrolet Uplander, which was essentially a facelift with one long wheelbase configuration, and a longer nose which served chiefly to improve crush distance and styling more like an SUV. Only the long-wheelbase Venture was sold for 2005 in the US but the short-wheelbase was still offered in Canada. Production of the Chevy Venture ended on June 24, 2005.

HAVING RESEARCHED THIS, IT IS APPARENT THAT THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM FOR THESE VEHICLES AS EARLY AS 2003. THIS THE THIRD TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED ON MY VAN. I HAVE ATTEMPTED TO REPAIR IT TWICE, USING AN EPOXY SEALER,BUT THE LEAK REDEVELOPS AFTER A FEW DAYS. I MIGHT HAVE TO REPLACE THE FUEL TANK AND FILLER TUBE, IF I CAN FIND ONE THAT I CAN AFFORD. GM SAYS THAT THIS IS NOT DEFECT AND WILL NOT ISSUE A RECALL, BUT IT SEEMS THAT JUST THE IDEA OF FIRE HAZARD WOULD BE ENOUGH REASON FOR GM TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I DO NOT SEE HOW GM CAN NOT SAY THAT THIS IS NOT A DEFECT IN THE DESIGN, SINCE THIS HAS OCCURRED A NUMBER OF TIME. IT'S A PLASTIC SIDE MOUNTED TANK WITH NO PROTECTION SURROUNDING IT AND A FILLER TUBE THAT JOINS IT IN A VERY VULNERABLE AREA. *TR

CAME HOME , TEMP GAUGE HAS BEEN READING FINE IF I TURN THE KEY ON AND OFF TO "RESET" THE GAUGE BACK TO "ZERO" STILL NOT SURE THAT IT IS READING CORRECTLY AT THAT POINT. $500.00 TO HAVE REPLACED. MOST CAR FORUMS PEOPLE HAVE BEEN COMPLAINING OF THIS ISSUE AND SOME OTHER COOLING ISSUES THAT VERY WELL MAY BE RELATED TO THIS PROBLEM. SAFETY OF MY FAMILY IS VERY IMPORTANT AND HAVING A VAN THAT "OVERHEATS"IS A PROBLEM DUE THE FACT THAT IF WE IGNORE THE GAUGE IT VERY WELL MAY OVERHEAT AND MY FAMILY MAY BE ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD NOT BEING ABLE TO GET TO A SAFE PLACE. CAME HOME , TEMP GAUGE HAS BEEN READING FINE IF I TURN THE KEY ON AND OFF TO "RESET" THE GAUGE BACK TO "ZERO" STILL NOT SURE THAT IT IS READING CORRECTLY AT THAT POINT. $500.00 TO HAVE REPLACED. MOST CAR FORUMS PEOPLE HAVE BEEN COMPLAINING OF THIS ISSUE AND SOME OTHER COOLING ISSUES THAT VERY WELL MAY BE RELATED TO THIS PROBLEM. SAFETY OF MY FAMILY IS VERY IMPORTANT AND HAVING A VAN THAT "OVERHEATS"IS A PROBLEM DUE THE FACT THAT IF WE IGNORE THE GAUGE IT VERY WELL MAY OVERHEAT AND MY FAMILY MAY BE ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD NOT BEING ABLE TO GET TO A SAFE PLACE. This vehicle has performed more than adequately. It rides smoothly, swallows more cargo than our previous SUV, and only cost $20,500 after rebates and discounts. We saved $6000 over the Honda Odyssey. While it's true that resale value is less than other minivans, this only matters if you plan on selling it quickly. At 58,000 miles, we only needed to replace the rotors and otherwise had no problems. The interior could be more high-class, but we didn't buy this car for style, we bought it for basic transportation and it has fulfilled this function well. Even the gas mileage is good, getting 25-26 miles in suburban driving. Overall, we are very satisfied.

This van is amazing! It's strong, quick, and surprisingly roomy for its short wheelbase. I've even used it to tow a 21 ft. open fisherman to a ramp 20 miles away, and it performed quite well despite its small engine size. While it may not have been designed for that kind of abuse, it certainly held up to the challenge!

I had to downsize from Suburbans and after adjusting I really like this van. You can't get more vehicle for the money. Its a shame GM does not have a mini-van in their line up now. I have been a loyal GM buyer for 25 + years but I am considering other options for new vans.

I never thought I would own a mini-van, but that all changed when I was pregnant with my third child! The convenience of getting the kids in and out of their car seats without having to bend over (like in a car) or stand on your tip toes (like in a truck) is amazing. Plus, the kids absolutely love the DVD player. It also has great highway mileage and handles the snow really well.

The Chevy is our first mini-van. The DVD is great and the seats are comfortable with leather upholstery. The features are nice, including Onstar, rear warning, info radio and onboard computer. My wife really enjoys it and that's all that matters.

Hello! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my van. It's been in my family since it was new, and I've only owned it for two months. So far, it's been great! I really love the leather interior, and it has good take off power. Although, it does struggle a bit on long hills. I've heard that earlier models had some gasket problems, but that's been resolved for the 2004 model. The only issue I've had is that the headrests of the 2nd row captains chairs create a bit of a blind spot when backing up, but I've learned to adjust to it. Also, there are a few rattles from the rear door when going over bumps. Overall, I'm really happy with my van and I hope this helps you in your search for a new vehicle!

I've owned my Venture for just over 4 years and unfortunately, I've experienced a number of issues. The hub bearing has broken twice since I've had it, once in the first year. Additionally, the sliding door doesn't stop if there's something in between it. In hindsight, I should have checked the engine area more thoroughly before purchasing. I've also found that the battery is covered by other parts, as well as the air filter, which are things I've maintained on other Chevy's previously. To add to the list, the window motor had to be replaced just 2 years into owning the van. While I love Chevy's, I must admit that I'm disappointed in the Venture. I purchased it for my sons to have more room on trips, but it's been a bit of a headache.
