The Chevrolet TrailBlazer (also known as Trailblazer) is a mid-size SUV produced by Chevrolet, a division of General Motors. The nameplate was first used in North America from 2001 to 2008; in 2009, it was replaced by the Traverse, as a crossover SUV. In 2011, production of a newly-redesigned version of the Trailblazer for the Asian and Brazilian markets began.

Blazer trim line (1998)

The TrailBlazer name was first introduced for the 1999 model year as an upscale trim level of the compact 4-door Chevrolet S-10 Blazer. It offered additional features on top of the previously top-of-the-line Chevrolet S-10 Blazer LT trim level, including an AM/FM stereo with single-disc CD player and optional remote cassette player, OnStar, color-keyed front and rear bumpers, side cladding, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, upgraded alloy wheels, a full-size spare tire and wheel, and upgraded cloth seating surfaces with power front bucket seats. Options such as a Bose premium sound system, leather-trimmed seating surfaces with heated front seats, power sunroof, and gold accents for the exterior emblems were all available for the original TrailBlazer trim package. The TrailBlazer trim was discontinued after 2001, when an all-new TrailBlazer model was introduced as a mid-size SUV. Production of the S-10 Blazer overlapped until the 2005 model year.

First generation (KC; 2001)

The first-generation TrailBlazer is based on a truck platform officially known as GMT360, with all models having four-wheel-drive layout as an option with both automatic engagement and the more traditional "Auto," "2-High," "4-High," and "4-Low" gearings, except the SS model which features an all-wheel-drive system. The TrailBlazer features an independent front suspension, and a five-link rear suspension. A G80 locking rear differential is available as an option on all models except for the SS, which has a G86 LSD as standard. An LTZ trim level had upgraded interior features (leather), upgraded sound system (Bose), and alloy wheels. All TrailBlazers came factory-equipped with a detachable towing hitch.

The TrailBlazer was updated in 2005 for the 2006 model year. An updated front fascia on all models (except for the base version) and new interior trim were included with the refresh. The SS received trim-specific front and rear fascias plus color-matched side skirts.

  • Summary: Brakes failed for no apparent reason around 8:00 am that morning. My friend and I was driving to my home in his 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer after many stops that morning. We was on the interstate doing 65 MPH. I noticed the traffic ahead approaching and I said "cars" indicating to my friend to slow down. He said "I have no brakes!" We narrowly missed the first cars and while readjusting we came into contact with the driver side of three vehicles rolling us on our side! I broke both my arms escaping thankfully with my life. We had no idea what suddenly and unexpectedly lost brakes. Weeks afterwards I started reading about the stabilitrac and steering sensor on the 1 of many Chevrolet vehicle defect issues. Around that year and I believe was the problem. I have been out of work and tried to explain this to people with no reply. I read an article about Chevrolet told about the issue and refused a recall. Senator Blumenthal requested an investigation but I haven't seen anything after a judge requested a Chevrolet CEO deposed. If this vehicle has these dangerous problems please know that it almost killed my friend and i. https://gmauthority.com/blog/2021/03/u-s-senator-asks-nhtsa-to-investigate-gm-over-faulty-steering-sensor/ Thanks if anyone is listening. Almost causing an accident. I had to dial back to 2HI quickly to unlock to front end. There was no light indicating any problems. Been driving it 2HI since with out any problems. Still no service light or anything, but feels like I'm stuck in A4WD. Feels like there is a drag and a pulling to the right. Also using more gas since. It was a scary, afraid to try the 4x4 functions again. Another snow storm is on the way!

Latest 5 recalls Chevrolet Trailblazer ext

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 13 recalls for different components of the Chevrolet Trailblazer ext.You can explore the year of the Volkswagen Jetta you are interested in by selecting it from the list.

  • Model: Chevrolet Trailblazer ext 2006
  • Report Received Date: 2015-09-24
  • Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
  • Components: VISIBILITY:POWER WINDOW DEVICES AND CONTROLS
  • Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2006-2007 Buick Rainier, Chevrolet Trailblazer and GMC Envoy vehicles, and 2006 GMC Envoy XL and Chevrolet Trailblazer EXT vehicles. Fluid may enter into the driver's door master power window switch module, causing corrosion that could result in a short in the circuit board, causing window switches to become inoperative. Previously, the affected vehicles may have had their master power window switch module treated with a protective coating, instead of having it replaced.
  • Consequence: The protective coating may not eliminate the risk that the circuit board could short and result in a fire, even while the vehicle is unattended.
  • Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will install a new driver's door switch module, free of charge. The recall began on November 2, 2015. Owners may contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, and GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is 15700.
  • Model: Chevrolet Trailblazer ext 2006
  • Report Received Date: 2015-08-14
  • Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
  • Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING:HEADLIGHTS
  • Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix, 2006-2009 Buick LaCrosse, 2006-2007 Buick Rainier, Chevrolet Trailblazer, GMC Envoy, 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer EXT, GMC Envoy XL, 2006-2008 Isuzu Ascender, and Saab 9-7x vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the headlamp driver module (HDM) may overheat and fail, causing the headlamps and daytime running lights to not illuminate.
  • Consequence: Headlamps that do not illuminate reduce the driver's ability to see the roadway and reduce the vehicle's visibility to oncoming vehicles, both of which increase the risk of a vehicle crash.
  • Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the HDM, free of charge. The recall began on May 17, 2016. Owners may contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300 or Pontiac customer service at 1-800-762-2737. GM's number for this recall is 14291.
  • Model: Chevrolet Trailblazer ext 2006
  • Report Received Date: 2014-07-02

  • Components: VISIBILITY:POWER WINDOW DEVICES AND CONTROLS

Fluid may enter the driver's door master power window switch module, causing corrosion that could result in a short in the circuit board. A short may cause the power door lock and power window switches to function intermittently or become inoperative. The short may also cause overheating, which could melt components of the door module, producing odor, smoke, or a fire.
  • Consequence: A short in the circuit board could lead to a fire, increasing the risk of personal injury. A fire could occur even while the vehicle is not in use. As a precaution, owners are advised to park outside until the remedy has been made.
  • Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the part number on the door module, and install a new door module if necessary, free of charge. Parts for the remedy are not currently available. An interim letter was mailed to owners in August 2014. A second owner letter will be mailed when parts are available. Owners may contact GM customer service at 1-800-521-7300 (Buick), 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet), 1-800-462-8782 (GMC), 1-800-955-9007 (SAAB), and 1-800-255-6727 (Isuzu). GM's number for this recall is 14309. NOTE: This recall provides a new remedy for all vehicles covered by recall 13V-248. Latest negative Chevrolet Trailblazer ext car reviews

  1. Jaren Prohaska 2024-11-24

    Vehicle year: 2004

Rear air compressor, fan motor, complete brake system (twice!), front wheel bearings and now, the transmission is shot! All at 48,500 miles! It's been a really frustrating experience. The car tends to slip even in mildly wet weather and has poor traction overall. The creature comforts are average at best. I wouldn't recommend this car to anyone, no matter what the price. Thanks for sharing your experience with us!

  2. Carter O'Keefe 2024-11-13

    Vehicle year: 2004

So far, so good! I just got the truck this week and I absolutely love the looks. It puts my 2002 Blazer to shame! The truck handles great and there's loads of space. Although I would be a bit happier if the 3rd row seats folded all the way down.

  3. Aiden Heathcote 2024-11-10

    Vehicle year: 2004

The build quality of the vehicle seems to be excellent. However, I was a little disappointed with the performance of the 5.3 V-8. Additionally, I found the way the vehicle sits up in the rear to be a bit of a letdown. While seating for 6 is tight, it is still acceptable. Seating for 7 is a bit of a stretch, but it can still work.

  4. Mateo O'Conner 2024-10-16

    Vehicle year: 2006

We purchased our 2006 Trailblazer about 3 years ago when it was already 3 years old. Unfortunately, we have had some issues with it since then. We had to replace the switch for the windows when they stopped working, and now the motor seems like it could give out at any moment. We also had to spend $400 to fix the heater fan, and the fuel gauge stopped working, which was quite a hassle since the whole fuel tank had to be dropped. However, Chevrolet has a recall for this issue and will reimburse half of the cost. Occasionally, the check engine light and 'skid' light come on, but they eventually turn off. Lastly, we have noticed some rusting on the doors. Despite these setbacks, we still enjoy driving our Trailblazer and hope to keep it running smoothly for years to come!

  5. Jalen Doyle 2024-09-09

    Vehicle year: 2006

I purchased the car used three years ago with 43,000 miles on it. Since then, I have experienced a number of issues, including needing a new starter, driver's side window motor, heater wires that melted and required replacement (a $300 fix), a gas sensor that does not work (a $700 fix), two wheel bearings, a new battery, throttle body cleaning (as the car felt like it would die out when idling), and the back emblem falling off. However, it is worth noting that the car performs well in snowy conditions.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with you. I used to be a loyal Expedition owner and naturally went to them when it was time for a new ride. However, after seeing the cost and the new interior, I changed my mind. I decided to go with the TrailBlazer instead and I'm so glad I did! It has so much style and personality. Plus, it's not a minivan and it responds quickly when you need it to.

  2. Garret Emmerich 2024-11-02

    Vehicle year: 2004

This vehicle is awesome! It handles great in all weather, especially the snow. It is a very smooth ride, all the way to the back seat. It is a great family vehicle. There is tons of space. We are very pleased with everything the Ext Trailblazer has to offer. The only negative thing I have to say is that it isn't very good on gas but that comes with buying an SUV. They did a great job on all the amenities.

I bought this particular vehicle because it was one of the few that could fit my 3-year-old daughter's wheelchair inside without having to take it apart. It handles perfectly and the ride is as smooth as a luxury car!

I'm so glad to hear that you're enjoying your SUV! It sounds like it's well-equipped and comfortable, just like a BMW. And it's great to hear that your daughters and grandchildren love it too!
