Competing against the Ford F-Series, Ram Pickup, Toyota Tundra, and Nissan Titan, the Silverado is among the best-selling vehicles in the United States, having sold over 12 million trucks since its introduction in 1998 as a 1999 model year.
History
The Silverado nameplate made its debut for the 1975 model year, becoming the top trim level on all Chevrolet C/K trucks, slotted above Custom Deluxe, Scottsdale, and Cheyenne. For the 1968 model year (seven years before the Silverado), GMC C/K trucks used variations of the Sierra name (Sierra, Sierra Classic, Sierra Grande, and High Sierra). Even after the C/K series officially ended, GM still uses the CK and the CC in their current model codes, to denote a two-wheel drive (CC), and four-wheel drive (CK).
For the 1988 GMT400 model architecture, Chevrolet retained the C/K model nomenclature, with GMC branding its full-size line as Sierras. While sharing the same body and chassis, the model chronology of the Silverado and Sierra are different, with five generations of the Sierra, while four of the Silverado.
In 2018, at the NTEA Work Truck Show in Indianapolis, Indiana, Chevrolet unveiled the first medium-duty Silverado, expanding the model line to a 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD chassis cab. Largely the successor to the 2003–2009 GMT560 chassis, the medium-duty trucks are exclusive to Chevrolet, with no plans for an equivalent GMC version. Instead, Navistar International (now partnering with GM) would sell the medium-duty trucks as a rebadged counterpart, called the CV. This is in fact a very similar nod to how the Avalanche did not have a GMC Yukon–based equivalent, but instead, Cadillac would take its place as the former's rebadged counterpart, the Escalade EXT.

Hey there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with my Chevy truck. When I first bought it new, I didn't have to do much maintenance on it for the first 125000 miles, except for replacing a cracked exhaust manifold at 650000 and changing the oil. However, in the last six months, I had to give it a complete overhaul since everything broke at once. I admit that I'm not the best with maintenance, so it all caught up with me. But now, with a complete new brake system, alternator, starter, the other manifold, and a tune-up, I'm hoping to get at least another 100000 miles out of it. The only issue I've had is with the ABS. Even after the recall, they still don't work right, but I found a quick fix by pulling the fuse. Overall, I'm hoping to get a few more years out of it and would definitely buy another Chevy. I hope you're doing well! I wanted to share my experience with my truck. I purchased it used with 35K miles and it now has 66K miles. It's actually the heavy-duty version of the 2500 that was replaced by the 2500HD in 2001. I'm happy to say that this truck has been entirely dependable with no major mechanical problems. The 6.0L engine is smooth with plenty of power and I haven't had to add any oil between changes. The ride is quiet and comfortable, even when loaded. I especially love the auto four-wheel drive option, which allows the transfer case to slip, making it great for slick pavement. Overall, I've been very satisfied with my purchase and I expect to keep this truck for 100K miles or more!

Over four years now & 238,000 miles. You couldn't ask for a more reliable truck. The fuel pump, water pump, & the alternator were the only things needing replaced. Pretty good for that many miles! It's comfortable, powerful, & it does everything you ask it to do. It's the best vehicle you've ever owned.

Hi there! I wanted to share my experience with this amazing truck that I purchased with only 17,132 miles on it. Currently, it has a little over 38k miles and I must say that it has been a great ride so far. I only had one minor issue with an 02 sensor that went out, but other than that, it has been smooth sailing. I have used this truck for hauling a couple of loads of 38k lbs and it has plenty of power! Although I did have a little mishap with the drive shaft once, it's all good now. I absolutely love this truck and it's even better now with the new Bully dog triple dog GT! Running empty, it gives me a decent 15 MPG. Thanks for reading!

I have been a loyal Chevy truck owner since 1972, but unfortunately my latest truck has had some issues. At around 20,000 miles, the oil pump failed, but it was not a major problem. However, at 25,000 miles, I noticed a knocking sound when starting the truck, which turned out to be the 'piston slap problem'. Despite bringing it to Sir Walter Chevy in Raleigh, they refused to look at it and only provided me with TSB #01-06-01-028, which did not address the issue. After doing some research online, I discovered that there was an extended warranty on the motor that covered the problem. Although I am currently experiencing some issues with the truck lasting only 5 minutes on startup at 29,000 miles, I am grateful for the extended warranty. Unfortunately, I am having trouble selling the truck due to the problem, so I am considering purchasing a Dodge Hemi instead.

We have tried various methods to improve the gas mileage, including installing a computer chip, air intake, and dual exhaust. However, despite our efforts, we are still only achieving 13 miles per gallon, and only 8 miles per gallon when towing. It may have been more beneficial to purchase the 454, which offers similar mileage but with more power.
