2002 Chevrolet Roadtrek problems
The Chevrolet Van or Chevy Van (also known as the Chevrolet/GMC G-series vans and GMC Vandura) is a range of vans that was manufactured by General Motors from the 1964 to 1996 model years. Introduced as the successor for the rear-engine Corvair Corvan/Greenbrier, the model line also replaced the panel van configuration of the Chevrolet Suburban. The vehicle was sold both in passenger van and cargo van configurations as well as a cutaway van chassis that served as the basis for a variety of custom applications.
Produced across three generations (1964–66, 1967–70, and 1970–96), the model line was sold under a wide variety of model names under both the Chevrolet and GMC brands. The first two generations were forward control vehicles (with the engine placed between the seats); the third generation adopted a configuration placing the engine forward of the driver. The second and third generations shared powertrain commonality with the C/K pickup truck model line.
After the 1996 model year, GM retired the G-Series vans, replacing them with the GMT600-platform Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana.

Common 2002 Chevrolet Roadtrek problems
The 2002 Roadtrek Popular, built on a Chevrolet chassis, has received several complaints from owners regarding its build quality, design, and component choices. Here are some common problems reported by owners:
- Poor build quality and workmanship: Owners have reported issues with the overall quality of the Roadtrek, including poor design choices and substandard workmanship. This has been evident in areas such as the awning, which was only held in place by four pieces of double-sided tape, leading to it falling off the vehicle. The dropped floor also gets very hot due to its proximity to the exhaust system, posing a risk to pets.
- Electrical system issues: Several owners have reported problems with the electrical system in their 2002 Roadtreks. In one instance, the wires connected to breakers had overheated, causing the insulation to melt off. Roadtrek initially blamed the component manufacturer but was ultimately responsible for choosing the unsuitable component for their electrical system. This fire hazard affected multiple Roadtrek owners, highlighting a significant design flaw.
- Component quality and lifespan: Many components in the 2002 Roadtrek, such as the water pump, water heater, side windows, stove, and others, are reported to have a short lifespan and will need to be replaced after 18 years. Roadtrek's choice of low-cost components has been criticized, as they may not be durable enough for long-term use.
- Inadequate customer support: Some owners have expressed frustration with Roadtrek's customer support, stating that the company did not take responsibility for the issues reported and did not offer recalls or fixes for the identified problems.
These common problems suggest that the 2002 Roadtrek Popular, while built on a reliable Chevrolet chassis, suffers from significant quality issues in its design, workmanship, and component choices. Potential buyers should be aware of these issues and consider inspecting the vehicle thoroughly before purchasing.
