2014 Bmw X3 problems
The BMW X3 is an SUV manufactured by BMW since 2003, based on the BMW 5 Series platform. Now in its third generation, BMW markets the car as a Sports Activity Vehicle, the company's proprietary descriptor for its X-line luxury vehicles.
The first-generation X3 was designed by BMW in conjunction with Magna Steyr of Graz, Austria—who also manufactured all X3s under contract to BMW. BMW manufactured the second-generation X3 at their Spartanburg plant in South Carolina, United States. Starting with the third generation, BMW South Africa's Rosslyn plant began production of the X3, alongside the Spartanburg plant, after the facility underwent a major upgrade to prepare for the X3 production, replacing the long-running 3 Series production in the plant. About 76,000 units will be manufactured there annually.
The car was the first mid-size, premium SUV on the market. In 2008, BMW started competing with the Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class (renamed GLC-Class since 2016), and numerous other SUVs in this segment. The X3 is smaller than the X5 and X6, and bigger than the X1 and the X2.
An all-electric variant is sold as the BMW iX3.

Common 2014 Bmw X3 problems
The 2014 BMW X3 has been reported to have several common problems, primarily related to the engine, electrical system, windows, and brakes.
- Engine problems: Some owners have reported a loss in overall performance and a grinding noise coming from the engine. These symptoms can be caused by problems with the timing chain guides, which help keep the chain taut and moving around as it should be. When this breaks, it can cause the engine to fail or be unable to start. The average quote for a timing chain repair on the BMW X3 is £1,407.84 when booked through WhoCanFixMyCar.
- Electrical problems: The 2014 BMW X3 has also been reported to have electrical problems, with some drivers experiencing a loss of power when applying the brakes, meaning they are having to apply increasing amounts of pressure to be able to get the car to stop. The most likely cause of this problem is due to a leak in the brake lines in the vehicle. When this happens, the brake fluid will begin to drain out until there is no longer enough left to transfer the pressure from your pedal to your tyres. The average quote for a brake fluid change on the BMW X3 is £60.72 when booked with WhoCanFixMyCar.
- Windows/windshield problems: There have been reports of faults with the braking system on the BMW X3, whereby steering has become increasingly heavy. While this problem is most often linked to a malfunctioning power steering system, it could also be caused by low tyre pressure. To rule this out, ensure that your tyres are fully topped up to the correct level. If the problem still persists, you’ve likely got a problem with your power steering on your hands. The average quote for a power steering repair on the BMW X3 is £63.30 when booked through WhoCanFixMyCar.
- Brakes problems: Drivers have also reported issues with the automatic gearbox on their BMW X3, where the gearbox selects the wrong gear for them. This is a highly common problem on X3 automatics, and is reportedly caused by an electrical fault. However, the only sure way to know what’s causing this problem is to take your car to a trained mechanic who can diagnose the fault for you. Depending on the cause of the problem, you may require the automatic gearbox to be reconfigured, or you may need an automatic gearbox repair. The average quote for an automatic gearbox repair on the BMW X3 is £225.75 when booked through WhoCanFixMyCar.
- Other issues: The 2014 BMW X3 has also been reported to have problems with the exhaust, in-car electronics, climate system, engine minor, paint and trim, brakes, electrical accessories, and fuel system/emissions.
In summary, the 2014 BMW X3 has several common problems, primarily related to the engine, electrical system, windows, and brakes. These issues can be costly to repair, and it is essential to address them promptly to ensure the safety and reliability of the vehicle.

This is a good car! While the acceleration and braking system may not be the best, I still feel safe driving it.
-
We have a double kayak and we love how easy it is to load and unload due to the height. Our previous 2002 X5 was taller but the same length. We also use it to tow our utility trailer and trailerable sailboat, and launching the sailboat is a breeze even on steep ramps. We are extremely satisfied with our experience.

The X3 is such a pleasure to drive! It's incredibly responsive, yet sturdy and quiet. I absolutely love the iDrive controller and the Heads Up display. And the seats are firm, yet comfortable.
-
Only had for a few weeks. I'm really glad with it so far.
-
The 3.5 accelerates and handles like a sports car, but it also has the space and utility of an SUV. It's a great option for someone with a family (or a dog like I have) who is also a car enthusiast.

Although there were some issues with the car, overall it lives up to its reputation for great handling and performance. The cost of repairs and maintenance can be high, and there were some problems with the fuel sensor and software, as well as the back hatch not opening. The run flat tires are also quite expensive and don't last very long. Additionally, some users may find BMW Connected Drive frustrating and the voice activation poor. However, these issues aside, the car is still a great choice for those looking for top-notch performance and handling.
