AIR BAGS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2016-07-01
- VIN: JH4KB2F68AC
- Components: AIR BAGS
- Summary: TAKATA RECALL - WE RECEIVED AN "IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL" NOTICE, INFORMING US OF THE DEFECTS IN PASSENGER-SIDE AIRBAG INFLATORS. NEEDLESS TO SAY, THE NATURE OF THE DEFECT IS SUCH THAT I WOULD NOT FEEL SAFE HAVING MYSELF OR A FAMILY MEMBER RIDE IN THE VEHICLE IN THE PASSENGER-SIDE FRONT SEAT. A SIMILAR RECALL NOTICE CAME OUT ABOUT THE DRIVER-SIDE AIRBAGS A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO. THAT PART WAS AVAILABLE QUICKLY, AND THE REPAIR WORK FOR THE RECALL DONE EXPEDITIOUSLY. I HAVE TO ASSUME THAT IS BECAUSE MY DEALERSHIP (OR AMERICAN HONDA MOTOR CORPORATION) WAS PAYING FOR MY RENTAL CAR IN THE INTERIM. I THINK IT HAS BEEN TOO LONG FOR THIS REPAIR/RECALL TO BE ADDRESSED, AS I RECEIVED THE NOTICE AND CONTACTED MY DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE REPAIR DONE TWO MONTHS AGO. IT IS DECIDEDLY INCONVENIENT TO HAVE TO USE TWO VEHICLES TO TRANSPORT MY FAMILY PLACES, AS NO ONE CAN RIDE IN THE FRONT SEAT AND BE ENSURED THAT IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT AND AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT, THE RISK OF DEATH OR GREAT BODILY INJURY WOULD NOT OCCUR. PLEASE TELL ME HOW I CAN GO ABOUT GETTING THIS REPAIR DONE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, AS I THINK THAT THE PRICE OF A RENTAL VEHICLE TO USE IN THE INTERIM SHOULD ABSOLUTELY BE COVERED BY THE DEALER, BASED ON THE NATURE OF THE DEFECT.

I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING MY CAR SINCE THE DRIVER'S AIRBAG IS AFFECTED BY THIS RECALL. I DO NOT FEEL THEY ARE RESPONDING IN AN APPROPRIATE AMOUNT OF TIME TO RECTIFY THIS ISSUE. DEALER HAD NO IDEA WHEN PARTS WOULD BE AVAILABLE. IT'S BEEN WELL OVER 60 DAYS SINCE I FIRST CALLED TO HAVE PARTS REPLACED.

- Components: AIR BAGS
- Summary: TAKATA RECALL: I WAS JUST NOTIFIED ON WEDNESDAY AUGUST 3, 2016 BY TELEPHONE BY ACURA EXECUTIVE CUSTOMER RELATIONS THAT MY PASSENGER AIRBAG REPLACEMENT HAS BEEN ORDERED. THIS WOMAN NOTIFIED ME ADDITIONALLY THAT I SHOULD NOT HAVE ANYONE SIT IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. I PURCHASED THIS CAR AS A FAMILY CAR, A FAMILY SEDAN. I MUST HAVE AVAILABILITY OF MY FRONT PASSENGER SEAT; IT CANNOT GO EMPTY. I STATED THIS TO ACURA AND REQUESTED THEY TAKE SPECIFIC ACTION BECAUSE THEY NEED TO GET ME A RENTAL VEHICLE IF NO ONE CAN SIT ON MY FRONT PASSENGER SEAT WITHOUT RISKING THEIR LIFE BECAUSE OF PROFIT DRIVEN MOTIVES BY TAKATA AND ACURA. THIS IS MY SECOND 2010 ACURA RL; THE FIRST ONE WAS TOTALED IN AN FRONT-TO-REAR-END COLLISION WHERE MY AIRBAG DEPLOYED. FORTUNATELY, THIS DEPLOYMENT DID NOT RESULT IN THE RELEASE OF METAL SHARDS. FURTHERMORE, I DROVE MY CURRENT RL AT RISK OF LOSING MY LIFE BECAUSE OF METAL SHARDS IN THE AIRBAG FOR THE DURATION UNTIL REPLACEMENT UNDER RECALL. I HAVE ALREADY TAKEN ENOUGH RISK OF LOSING MY LIFE AND/OR HEALTH AND THIS CANNOT CONTINUE. I DEMAND ACURA TAKE IMMEDIATE (I MEAN IMMEDIATE) STEPS TO GET ME A COMPARABLE RENTAL CAR. IF THEY DON'T RESPOND WITH AN IMMEDIATE SOLUTION, I WILL RENT A CAR MYSELF AND WILL SUBMIT THE BILL TO ACURA FOR CHARGES INCURRED. SINCE THAT TELEPHONE CALL, I WENT THROUGH MY UNOPENED MAIL AND DISCOVERED THE RECALL NOTICE; THE LETTER IS DATED "JULY 2016". IT IS INTERESTING THIS COMPANY IS NOT CAPABLE OF INSTALLING AN ACTUAL DATE ON THE LETTERHEAD AND IS ALLOWED TO SIMPLY STATE AN ENTIRE MONTH. IN THAT LETTER, COMPLAINT PROCEDURES ARE EXPLAINED TO INCLUDE THAT I MAY FILE A COMPLAINT AFTER 60 DAYS. I SPOKE WITH MY OAKLAND ACURA DEALER WHO HAS MY RECALL PART ON ORDER AND HE SAID IT WOULD BE 3-4 WEEKS AT LEAST AND LIKELY MORE UNTIL A REPLACEMENT AIRBAG IS AVAILABLE FOR INSTALLATION. AN IMMEDIATE SOLUTION IS REQUIRED.

Hi there! We hope you're enjoying your ride. Just a friendly reminder that proper handling and regular maintenance can help keep your ride in top condition. Have a great day!

I recently test drove a range of luxury cars including the new Jag, BMW 5 series, Infiniti M, Audi A6 & A5, and Lexus LS and GS. Initially, I wasn't planning on purchasing a car this year as none of them seemed worth the investment or an upgrade from my current Lexus LS 430. However, when I visited Acura to look at the 2009 MDX for my wife, I stumbled upon the RL and was pleasantly surprised. The pictures of the 09 RL did not do it justice. After test driving it, I fell in love with the handling, no-lag speed and pick-up, and luxurious interior with all the gadgets tastefully done. I must admit, as a car snob, I never even considered an Acura, but I was wrong. Now, I am happier than ever with my purchase, which has more features than the BMW 535xi and saved me over $10,000.

Hey there! Just a friendly reminder to watch your speed.
-
This car is really nice! It's very quiet and has an excellent radio. The controls can be a bit confusing at first, but with a little practice, you'll be changing radio channels and map functions like a pro. The interior styling always gets a lot of compliments from my co-workers, especially with the bright silver exterior and the prominent 'transformer shield' grill that blends in nicely. The tail end looks fabulous and reminds me of the BMW 7 series. The acceleration is very powerful and the SH-AWD provides great control on rainy roads. While the gas mileage isn't great, it's on par with a 300 hp car that weighs 4,000 lbs. Overall, I highly recommend this car!

This is our second Acura. Over all this is a nice comfortable car. Long trips don't beat you up like some can. The AWD is rock solid on icy roads. My only gripe is that I have had problems with the heater on days that are below freezing. Even with the temp control set at 62 the passenger compartment gets very hot. Then it will turn on the ac and blow cold air into your face. Three different dealers couldn't find anything wrong. The car, compared with other 09 Acura's, when tested above freezing temps, are identical.

Travon Hyatt 2024-05-13
For someone who has never owned a decent car, the RL would probably be a great choice. However, I have had a lot of reliability issues with it, which has made me decide to not buy an Acura again. Despite its slow speed, the handling is pretty good and it's fun to drive. Overall, I would give it a 7 out of 10.
Jordyn Jacobson 2024-02-07
I purchased the RL Tech package and unfortunately experienced significant quality issues on the second day. There were rattling noises coming from various parts of the car and within 6 weeks of ownership, several parts had to be replaced due to major manufacturing defects. The windshield and headliners had to be taken apart as well. While I am disappointed with the experience, I am confident that Honda corporate will take the necessary steps to address these issues and ensure customer satisfaction.
