The first generation of the coupé and convertible range of the BMW 2 Series subcompact executive car consists of the BMW 2 Series (F22) for the coupé version and BMW 2 Series (F23) for the convertible version. The F22/F23 was in production from November 2013 through 2021 and is often collectively referred to as the F22.

The F22 was released as the successor to the E82 1 Series coupé and E88 1 Series convertible. It is currently produced in Leipzig, previously alongside the F20 1 Series hatchback range.

The high-performance F87 M2 model was produced in the coupe body style. It is powered by the BMW N55 and BMW S55 turbocharged inline-six engines.

The United States was the most popular market for the 2 Series, accounting for one-third of all sales, followed by Germany and Great Britain.

Common 2021 Bmw 230i problems

The BMW 230i 2021 has been reported to have several common problems based on complaints from owners. One of the most significant issues is related to the steering system. The 2024 BMW 2 Series Coupe (230i) is included in a recall due to a potential issue with the steering gear, which may not have been tightened properly during manufacturing. This can cause the steering gear to loosen over time, potentially leading to a loss of steering control.

Another issue reported is related to the airbags in the 2023 BMW 2 Series Coupe (230i, 230i XDrive, M240i, M240i xDrive) vehicles. The second-row seat backrest cover panels for the side airbags may break during deployment, which can reduce the effectiveness of the side airbags in the event of a crash.

In addition to these recalls, there are also reports of issues with the power window and sunroof system in certain BMW models, including the 2 Series Coupe (230i, 230i xDrive, M240i xDrive, M2), Z4 sDrive30i, and Z4 M40i vehicles. When the digital key is removed from the vehicle, the Electronic Control Unit (ECU) software may still allow the power windows and sunroof to be closed, which can potentially lead to injury if a passenger's fingers or other body parts are in the way.

While there are no specific reports of common problems with the 2021 BMW 230i xDrive, it is worth noting that the BMW brand as a whole has a reliability rating of 2.5 out of 5.0, which ranks it 30th out of 32 for all car brands. The average annual repair cost for a BMW is $968, which means it has average ownership costs. However, the probability of a repair being severe is 15%, which is higher than average.

In summary, while there are no specific reports of common problems with the 2021 BMW 230i xDrive, there are several recalls and reported issues with other BMW models that may be of concern to potential buyers. The 2024 BMW 2 Series Coupe (230i) has a recall related to the steering system, and there are recalls related to the airbags and power window and sunroof systems in other BMW models. Additionally, the BMW brand as a whole has a lower than average reliability rating and a higher than average probability of severe repairs.
