The Q8 is the first SUV model under Audi's new head of design, Marc Lichte, and introduced a new design language for the brand's SUVs. The grill is larger and now has an octagonal shape, with both vertical and horizontal slats. The Q8 features full-laser headlamps and taillamps. The interior features the knob-less MMI system, three touch screens, and an enlarged virtual cockpit which has a fully digital instrument cluster. Common 2020 Audi Q8 problems

The 2020 Audi Q8 is a luxury midsize SUV that has been praised for its sophisticated design, advanced technology, and superior performance. However, like any vehicle, it may have certain issues that owners have reported. Here are some common problems with the Audi Q8 2020 based on complaints from owners:

  • Engine Problems: Some owners have reported an obvious throttle lag when the auto start/stop feature was engaged, particularly when the vehicle came out of a rolling stop. This issue was reportedly acknowledged by Audi and was supposedly fixed by the late 4th quarter of 2019. There have also been reports of engine misfires.
  • Transmission Problems: Some owners have reported that the vehicle failed to accelerate when the gas pedal was applied when coming to or from a stop. This delay in response could put drivers at risk when trying to cross traffic, accelerate from a stop sign, or turn left during oncoming traffic. This issue appears to be intermittent but is becoming more prevalent.
  • Power Train Complaints: The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has received 39 complaints about the powertrain of the 2020 Audi Q8. These complaints include issues with the vehicle's acceleration, transmission, and engine.
  • Electrical System Complaints: The NHTSA has also received 28 complaints about the electrical system of the 2020 Audi Q8. One owner claimed to face a scary situation when their car, after flashing multiple warnings, suddenly shut down on the highway. The system failure left them trapped inside as the doors wouldn't open.
  • Software Issues: Some owners have reported that the software is a little flakey, with strange messages appearing occasionally, and certain parts of the menus disabled on one drive for no reason.

It's important to note that these issues are based on complaints from owners and may not be representative of all 2020 Audi Q8 vehicles. Additionally, some of these issues may have been resolved through recalls or software updates. If you're considering purchasing a 2020 Audi Q8, it's recommended that you research the vehicle thoroughly and consider getting a pre-purchase inspection from a trusted mechanic.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-09-19
  • VIN: WA1EVAF19LD
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
  • Summary: On or about September 19, 2023, I was driving to work when all of a sudden, while I was driving, I received 2 error codes: 1) electrical system maintenance malfunction; and 2) vehicle starting system malfunction. I proceeded driving to work, and when I got there, no problems arose. I contacted Audi dealership to inquire about the problems, as I had only bought the vehicle maybe 2 months prior. I was informed that the vehicle cannot be driven, and I need to have it towed to the dealership immediately, as the car would more than likely breakdown and I would be stranded. I started researching the issue and discovered that this is an ongoing issue that has been happening for quite some time. Apparently, Audi has been aware of this issue for YEARS, and has failed to inform consumers or customers because they do not have the parts in stock to do a formal recall. As of this moment, my car is still at the dealer, and I am awaiting confirmation that the issue is the issue with the alternator as it relates to the battery, which is faulty. I have been informed that Audi is aware of the issue and the part has been on back order for quite some time. it could be weeks, if not months, for them to have the part needed to fix the vehicle. I do not have a loaner yet, and getting one has been an extreme pain and inconvenience, but it appears that Audi will do nothing to recall this problem due to the part shortage. I am grateful I discovered the problem when I did, and it did not cause any harm to me or anyone I know. However, there are SO many cars still on the road that this will affect, and it is a safety concern that should be looked into further.

I am still having to pay a car note, and insurance on a car I cannot drive. I have since tried to make several appointments with Audi to get this corrected and they have cancelled on me 3 times because there is no remedy/ solution. Negative 2020 Audi Q8 car reviews

  1. Hester Romaguera 2024-11-20

The SUV is beautiful inside and out. Once you get rolling, the drive is wonderful! It could benefit from a little more power and torque, perhaps an additional 30 hp. However, there are a few issues that could be improved. The turbo response time could be quicker, and the oil-overfilled warning light has a faulty system design, which Audi has acknowledged in a TSB. Additionally, the auto stop & start feature cuts off a bit too quickly while still rolling, causing a rough start-up and exacerbating the turbo lag. Overall, though, it's a great car with some minor areas for improvement.

  2. Travon Effertz 2024-10-14

Make sure you are aware of a fault light that may continue to come on and stay on. This is a warning light indicating that your oil level is too high and instructing you to release some oil from the oil chamber. According to an Audi specialist, this is a recent issue that Audi is acknowledging in some of their newer model cars. If you don't drive the car far enough, moisture builds up in the oil chamber, triggering the 'overfill' sensors and turning on a false warning light. However, the engine is never in danger of oil spilling and causing any sort of damage. The specialist is hopeful that Audi Motors will fix the problem. The car is very nice, but has a weak launch at the start.

Hey there! Just a quick reminder to take your time. Remember, things aren't always as difficult as they may seem at first glance.

Positive 2020 Audi Q8 car reviews

  1. Darren Schulist 2024-10-12

I purchased this car in 2019 after trading in my 2016 GLE 400. The ride quality and noise levels are significantly better than my previous car, and the air suspension option is fantastic. The four-wheel steering makes this large vehicle very maneuverable at low speeds. The luxury pack adds massaging seats and upgraded materials that really elevate this car to flagship status. My only complaints are that the driver assist features are not much better than my older generation Mercedes, and the wireless CarPlay often does not automatically connect. Additionally, most of the infotainment functions are locked out when the car is in motion, even for the passenger. Lastly, the touchscreens always attract fingerprints. Overall, I believe that the Q8 is one of the most comfortable and luxurious cars available for under $100k. I never thought I would consider a “coupe” SUV, but the Q8 does not feel like a compromise.

  2. Manley VonRueden 2024-10-09

The Q8 is an impressive piece of engineering, although there are some major safety concerns that need to be addressed. Firstly, the layout of the turn signal and cruise control levers is a serious human engineering flaw that any consultant would confirm. It is important that this issue is resolved to ensure the safety of drivers. Additionally, there have been some issues with the turbocharger failing to respond when needed, which can be dangerous. Despite these concerns, the engine itself is powerful and responsive. Perhaps it would be worth considering alternative options in the market.

  3. Lincoln Stark 2024-10-08

I have owned BMW's and other luxury SUVs, but my Audi Q8 beats them all! I bought it new, and it has not given me a single problem. I love it!

  4. Myrl Hoeger 2024-09-03

I’ve had my Q8 for 5 years now and, other than the tires being replaced earlier than expected and a faulty sensor in year 2, I couldn’t be happier. It has more power than I need, more luxury than I deserve, and it's the nicest ride I’ve experienced compared to other cars in its class. It's still going strong and looking great!

  5. Amir Reichel 2024-08-06

I drive this vehicle from Colorado to our summer retreat in Michigan and I absolutely love it! It's safe, roomy, and smooth, without feeling too 'couchy'. This is actually my 4th Audi in many years and I couldn't be happier with the quality and service. Even though it's a bit pricey, it's definitely worth it for the solid brand and the many years of enjoyment I've had with my Audis (including the 2002 Allroad, 2006 S3, 2014 Allroad, and 2019 Q8).
