The Audi A6 is an executive car made by the German company Audi since 1994. Now in its fifth generation, the successor to the Audi 100 is manufactured in Neckarsulm, Germany, and is available in saloon and estate configurations, the latter marketed by Audi as the Avant. Audi's internal numbering treats the A6 as a continuation of the Audi 100 lineage, with the initial A6 designated as a member of the C4-series, followed by the C5, C6, C7, and the C8. The related Audi A7 is essentially a Sportback (liftback) version of the C7-series and C8-series A6 but is marketed under its own separate identity and model designation.

All generations of the A6 have offered either front-wheel-drive or Torsen-based four-wheel-drive, marketed by Audi as their quattro system. The A6 has also been used as the basis for the company's Allroad models since 1999.

Both petrol and diesel versions of the A6 are offered. The wide range of engines available have power outputs ranging from 150 to 333 PS (110 to 245 kW). These are inline four-cylinder turbocharged engines and more powerful 3-litre units in a V6 configuration with a mechanical compressor.

AFTER READING ONLINE THAT MANY PEOPLE HAVE THIS SAME PROBLEM, I AM SHOCKED THAT THIS IS NOT A RECALL WHEN IT COULD BE POTENTIALLY LIFE THREATENING AND THAT AUDI WANTS TO CHARGE 3K TO LOWER THE TANK AND REPAIR.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2017-02-23
  • VIN: WAUVT64B03N
  • Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON, VEHICLE WILL NOT PASS EMISSIONS TESTING. AUDI DETERMINED THAT IT WAS DUE TO A FUEL LEAK FROM A CRACK IN THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR ROLLOVER VALVE. VEHICLE HAD BEEN RECALLED IN PAST FOR SIMILAR ISSUE (PERFORMED). TANK HAS 4 ROLLOVER VALVES, ONLY ONE (FRONT DRIVER) INCLUDED IN PRIOR RECALL. INITIAL QUOTED $3,300 TO REPLACE TANK. AUDI OFFERED TO PAY FOR REPLACEMENT TANK WITH THE EXCEPTION OF ~$600 (REPAIR ORDER ATTACHED). REPAIR COMPLETED ON 2/23/2017, CAR PASSES STATE INSPECTION. AS YOU CAN SEE BY THE "STAINING" IN THE ATTACHED PHOTO, THE LEAK WAS SIGNIFICANT DEALER THEN CALLS TO SAY THAT CAR NEEDS TO BE RETURNED TO PERFORM PRIOR RECALL ON THE NEWLY INSTALLED TANK. RECALL TO BE PERFORMED ON ONLY THE ONE ROLLOVER VALVE (DRIVER FRONT) THAT CAN BE ACCESSED WITH OUT REMOVING FUEL TANK. NOT THE VALVE THAT WAS LEAKING AND NECESSITATED THE REPLACEMENT. I REQUESTED THAT AUDI PERFORM RECALL ON ALL 4 ROLLOVER VALVES AS THEY INSTALLED A KNOWINGLY DEFECTIVE PART AND THE RISK OF ANOTHER CRACK/LEAK EXISTS. DEALER SAYS AUDI REFUSES. I HAVE MADE SEVERAL CALLS TO BOTH DEALER AND AUDI WITH NO RESPONSE FROM AUDI BEYOND A CONVERSATION WITH CUSTOMER SERVICE. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT BACK ON 5/08/2017. EMAILED DEALER ON 5/11/2017 (ATTACHED PDF) WITH MY REQUEST (AGAIN), AND HAVE RECEIVED NO CONTACT FROM AUDI. RETURNING CAR TO DEALER FOR RECALL ON THE ONE ROLLOVER VALVE ON 7/12/17. AUDI IS PUTTING THIS CAR BACK ON THE ROAD WITH THE STRONG POTENTIAL OF A FUEL LEAK.

FUEL SYSTEM, OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2014-10-15
  • VIN: WAUML64B43N
  • Components: FUEL SYSTEM, OTHER
  • Summary: I HAVE 2003 AUDI A6 QUATTRO 4.2 L. I HAD IN SHOP FOR REAR BRAKES AND MECHANIC NOTED FUEL LEAKING/DRIPPING FROM FRONT DRIVERS SIDE OF PLASTIC FUEL TANK. I DID INTERNET SEARCH AND FOUND RECALL CAMPAIGN 11V267000 AND MANY COMPLAINTS REGARDING SIMILAR LEAKS. I VERIFIED MANUFACTURE DATE 4/3/(2002 OR 2003?) FROM VEHICLE WHICH FALLS IN WINDOW COVERED BY RECALL OF UNITS MANUFACTURED BETWEEN JUNE 19, 2001 THROUGH JUNE 8, 2004. I CONTACTED AUDI AMERICA AND EVENTUALLY SPOKE WITH XXXX AT [XXX]. SHE ASSURED ME THAT MY CAR WAS EITHER NOT SUBJECT TO THE RECALL OR HAD BEEN FIXED. I TOLD HER I WAS THE OWNER OF THE CAR AT THE TIME OF THE RECALL ( MAY 2011) AND MY CAR HAD NOT BEEN FIXED. SHE ROBOTICALLY REPEATED THAT MY CAR HAD EITHER BEEN FIXED OR NOT PART OF THE RECALL. I ASKED HER TO VERIFY THAT IT HAD BEEN FIXED AND SHE SAID THEY HAVE NO RECORDS TO SHOW THAT. SHE SAID I COULD CONTACT THE DEALER THAT ORIGINALLY SOLD THE CAR. I SAID WHY WOULD A DEALER IN WISCONSIN WHO SOLD THE CAR IN 2003 HAVE ANY RECORDS REGARDING A RECALL ISSUED IN 20011 WHEN I OWNED THE CAR? SHE WAS SILENT. I ASKED FOR A LIST OF ALL VINS IN THE RECALL. SHE SAID SHE COULD NOT GIVE ME THAT. SHE AGREED TO SEND ME A "RANGE" OF AFFECTED VIN'S. SHE SAID THEY MIGHT BE ABLE TO HELP ME OUT BUT I NEED TO HAVE AND EVALUATION DONE AT MY EXPENSE AT AN AUDI DEALER TO DETERMINE WHAT IS WRONG. I SAID I KNOW WHAT IS WRING, IT IS LEAKING GAS FROM THE ROLLOVER VALVE CONNECTION ON THE TANK AND REPORTED ALL OVER THE INTERNET IN AUDI FORUMS ETC. I HAVE MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH AUDI FOR 31 OCTOBER MIN 1 HR LABOR AT $110/HR TO EVALUATE MY LEAK. THIS RECALL NEEDS TO BE ENFORCED AND AUDI NEEDS TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR EVASIVE RESPONSES. FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2011-12-18
  • VIN: WAULT64B43N
  • Components: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE
  • Summary: ON DECEMBER 18, 2011 I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND MY VEHICLE STALLED. I HAD MY CAR TOWED TO THE LOCAL AUDI DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT IT NEEDED A NEW FUEL PUMP. I CONDUCTED AN INTERNET SEARCH AND DISCOVERED THAT MY AUDI HAD BEEN PART OF A RECALL AND I ASKED THE LOCAL DEALER IF THE RECALL REPAIR HAD EVER BEEN CONDUCTED, THEY TOLD ME THAT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT PART OF A RECALL. THEY TOLD ME THAT ONLY AUDI A-4'S WERE PART OF THE RECALL. HOWEVER, THE NHTSA WEBSITE SHOWS A LETTER DATED JULY 23, 2007 SENT FROM VOLKSWAGEN OF AMERICA, INC. (PARENT COMPANY OF AUDI OF AMERICA, INC.) TO [XXX] OF NHTSA NOTIFYING NHTSA THAT VW OF AMERICA IS RECALLING AND REPLACING FUEL PUMPS ON VW PASSAT'S, AUDI A-4'S AND AUDI A-6'S, ADDITIONALLY, THE LETTER LISTED A RANGE OF VIN'S FOR EFFECTED AUDI A6'S THAT INCLUDED MY VIN. IN THE AFOREMENTIONED LETTER, VW OF AMERICA TOLD NHTSA THAT 'ANY SUBJECT VEHICLE THAT IS PRESENTED FOR SERVICE TO AN AUTHORIZED VOLKSWAGEN/AUDI DEALER WILL BE REPAIRED FREE OF CHARGE. COULD SOMEONE PLEASE ASSIST ME IN CAUSING VW OF AMERICA TO DO WHAT THEY TOLD NHTSA THEY WERE GOING TO DO? VW OF AMERICA NEVER NOTIFIED ME OF THE SAFETY ISSUE OR OF THE RECALL, AND WHEN I PRESENTED THIS INFORMATION TO THE DEALER THEY STILL REFUSED TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR. AUDI ENDANGERED ME AND LIKELY OTHER CONSUMERS BY NEVER INFORMING US OF THE RECALL AND I HAVE BEEN FORCED TO PAY OVER $500 TO REPAIR A PART THAT WAS PART OF A RECALL AND WOULD BE REPAIRED FREE OF CHARGE. COULD YOU PLEASE ASSIST ME IN COLLECTING MY FUNDS FROM AUDI? ADDITIONALLY, I BELIEVE THEY SHOULD BE SUBJECT TO SIGNIFICANT PENALTIES AND FINES FOR DECEIVING NHTSA. USED SAME SWITCH, BUT SOON AS CAR IS TURNED OFF AND TURNED BACK ON, SWITCH TENDS TO WORK ONLY FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS AND ABS SYSTEM SHOWS UP AGAIN WITH NO BRAKES LIGHTS AT ALL. TOOK TO AUDI DEALER IN WHICH THEY SAID THAT THERE HAS BEEN MANY PROBLEMS WITHIN THIS SYSTEM. BUT TO TOTALLY FIX THE PROBLEM WOULD RUN ANYWHERE FROM 700.00 TO 1200 DOLLARS ON A 35.00 TO 45.00 PART. NO BRAKES COULD LEAD TO SERIOUS ACCIDENTS NOT KNOWING THAT YOUR BRAKES LIGHTS ARE ACTUALLY OUT. PLEASE PLEASE RECALL THIS ISSUE ON ALL AUDI'S.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2011-05-20
  • Fire: 1
  • VIN: WAUVT64B83N
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
  • Summary: 2003 A6 QUATTRO AVANT 3.0 CAR RAN FINE DRIVING TO WORK. WHEN LEAVING AT END OF DAY, STARTED CAR AND IT RAN VERY ROUGH I DECIDED TO REVERSE BACK INTO PARKING SPACE AND AT THAT POINT NOTED SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER HOOD (CAR HAD RUN FOR APPROXIMATELY 20 SECONDS). TURNED OFF ENGINE, OPENED HOOD, AND FOUND THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR COIL PACK BURNING. EXTINGUISHED FLAME USING A BASEBALL CAP TO SMOTHER IT OUT. COIL PACK CONTINUED TO SMOKE AND REIGNITE DUE TO BURNING INSIDE COIL PACK. JAMMED SCREWDRIVER INTO PACK TO ROOT OUT FLAME. HAD CAR TOWED TO AUDI DEALER - AWAITING REPAIR. THERE IS AN ACTIVE RECALL CAMPAIGN FOR BAD COIL PACKS (28F2 / J1) - RECALL STATES CHECK ENGINE LIGHT MAY COME ON AND CAR WILL RUN ROUGH, FURTHER RECOMMENDS RETURING VEHICLE TO DEALER AT THAT TIME. THERE IS APPARENTLY TWO WAYS THE PACK CAN FAIL - A FAULT ON THE HIGH VOLTAGE END JUST BYPASSES THE SPARK TO THE ENGINE BLOCK CAUSING A MISFIRE. A FAULT AT THE LOW VOLTAGE END RESULTS IN A SHORT AND MOST LIKELY A FIRE. THIS POTENTIAL FOR FIRE IS UNDERSTATED BY AUDI AND SHOUD BE CLEARLY IDENTIFIED IN THE RECALL CAMPAIGN TO ENSURE THE RIGHT URGENCY IS PLACED ON THIS ISSUE. THE FACT IS, I WAS ABLE TO REACT AND EXTIGUISH THE FIRE, HAD THIS OCCURED IN OTHER CIRCUMSTANCES THE CAR WOULD MOST LIKELY HAVE COMPLETELY BURNED. *TR

FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2008-02-18
  • VIN: WAUML64B33N
  • Components: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE
  • Summary: JANUARY 15, 2011 RE: DEFECTIVE INVESTIGATION PE08008 AUDI 2003 A6 LEAKING FUEL FROM GAS TANK ASSEMBLY ATTACHED, PLEASE FIND EVIDENCE I REPORTED MY FUEL TANK LEAKED FUEL TO A LOS ANGELES AUDI DEALER. I BOUGHT THE CAR IN 2006 WITH 66,000 MILES AND REMAINS WITH NO DAMAGE HISTORY. IN 2008, FUEL BEGAN DRIPPING AT THE LOWER DRIVER SIDE VACUUM NIPPLE FLANGE WHICH SHIFTED OFF THE RIM OF THE FUEL TANK. WHEN THE TANK WAS FILLED PASSED HALF FULL, IT WOULD DRIP ONTO THE GROUND. THERE IS A VALID RECALL FOR MOST 2003 SEDAN MODELS AND THE 4.2L OFF-ROAD QUATTRO. THIS MODEL IS A 2003 SEDAN WITH THE 4.2L ENGINE SIZE AND SHOULD CERTAINLY BE INCLUDED IN THESE TWO RELATED RECALLS. DUE TO NO FAULT OF MY OWN, THE NATURE AND SEVERITY OF THE DEFECT, I QUESTIONED THE PROBLEM WAS A MANUFACTURES DEFECT WARRANTING REPAIR AND POTENTIAL RECALL. THEY DISAGREED, SAID IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND QUOTED ME A REPAIR. VALENTINE ASSERTED THE CONDITION WAS NOTED TO MY VIN IN THEIR SYSTEM. LATER THAT YEAR, LA AUDI MADE DIFFERENT REPAIRS AND THE FUEL LEAK CONDITION WAS AGAIN PUT ON THE WORK ORDER. FINALLY IN JUNE 2010, A NEIGHBOR WROTE NOTE THE CAR WAS LEAKING FUEL. IT TANK WAS POURING FUEL AFTER FILLING TO THE THREE-QUARTERS MARK AND PARKING IN OUR SUBTERRANEAN PARKING GARAGE. REPAIR COULD NOT BE AVOIDED. BASED ON LA AUDI'S POSITION, A LOCAL MECHANIC REPLACED THE ENTIRE TANK WITH A SALVAGE ONE HE FOUND. ATTACHED ARE PHOTOS, WORK REPAIR ORDERS, A HAZARD NOTE FROM NEIGHBOR OF THE FUEL LEAK, AND SIGNED DECLARATION THESE ITEM AS AUTHENTIC AND ALL ASSERTIONS ABOVE ARE TRUTHFUL. I APPRECIATE ASSISTANCE OBTAINING RECOVERY FROM AUDI FOR THE REPAIRS AS THEY REFUSED TO WHEN PRESENTED TWICE. YOUR ASSISTANCE IN THIS MATTER IS APPRECIATED. UPDATED PORTABLE 02/18/11

Negative 2003 Audi A6 car reviews

You all know it, it's a great car! As a 17-year-old, I love blasting music with the Bose sound system. It has decent gas mileage, great handling, and doesn't shake on the highway like my other car with nearly 220k miles. My dad recently spent $2800 for a checkup, and while the timing belt and brakes have had some issues, I still love it. Even a girl at my school who got a Hummer H3 for her 16th birthday says she really likes it. She just doesn't know about the maintenance costs that come with owning a German car. Thank goodness her mom has a Lexus, so she won't have to deal with the annoyances. Still, if you're looking for a reliable car, an Audi might not be the best choice.

Hey there! I just bought an Audi A6 2.7T 2003, but unfortunately, I'm already experiencing some issues. After only having the vehicle for 2 weeks, I need a torque converter, mass air flow, battery, and the tiptronic is failing. The cost to fix everything is $3,275.00, and there may be more to do once the mechanics are in there. It's definitely a bit pricey to maintain, but I'm determined to make it mine and fix it up like it's a classic!

  3. Kevin Bauch 2024-03-04

This all-wheel-drive car handles supremely in the rain, but it may be too light for heavy snow. The Bose stereo is excellent, but unfortunately, the car has poor quality. I had to return it to the dealer every month with a list of fixes, from electrical problems to issues with the windows, catalytic converter, gas gauges, window switches, mirrors, wipers, water pumps, and leaky engine gaskets. The dealers are overworked, making it hard to get appointments or even callbacks. This has been the most disappointing car I have ever purchased, especially when compared to BMWs, Lexuses, Pathfinders, and Toyotas. I would advise buyers to beware!

  4. Lucio Reilly 2024-02-19

The car experienced a complete electrical failure, including the windows, security system, rear warning system, sunroof, and more, which resulted in it being in the shop for a total of 20 days out of service over the course of 11 months. Despite the local dealer's inability to repair the problem and Audi corporation's initial lack of response, we were able to find a resolution through BBB Autoline arbitration. We presented our case to the arbitrator, and although Audi did not attend the meeting, they did send a statement advising against replacing the vehicle. Fortunately, the arbitrator ruled in our favor, and we are now awaiting Audi's repurchase of the vehicle. We hope to move on from this experience and find a more suitable product. Thank you for your understanding.

Positive 2003 Audi A6 car reviews

  1. Alberto Stokes 2025-01-09

When my wife and I went car shopping this summer, she wasn't initially thrilled about it. Our old car was running fine and didn't have too many issues, so she didn't see the need for a new one. However, after test driving the Audi A6, she fell in love with it just as much as I did. The car is incredibly fast, comfortable, and stylish. Although some people have expressed concerns about Audi's reliability, we haven't experienced any issues in the six months that we've owned it. The only downside is that the turbo consumes a lot of gas, and the cup holders could be better designed. Overall, we both absolutely adore this car!

  2. Anibal West 2024-11-13

The car is outstanding! The 2.7T engine just launches the car. Along with the ability to travel at MACH speed, the car provides outstanding comfort and superb road handling with its quattro all-wheel drive. It's a wonderful car, and I enjoy it more every day. I would definitely recommend it to anyone!

  3. Orval Kreiger 2024-11-03

At 6'5, finding a car with enough height and legroom can be a challenge, but the A6 fits the bill perfectly. Even with a cowboy hat on, I still have plenty of space. The back seat is also surprisingly roomy. The driving experience is simply amazing - it's so smooth and fast that you have to pay close attention to keep up. The luxury feel is just the cherry on top. Overall, I'm thoroughly impressed with the A6.

  4. Karl Stamm 2024-10-21

This car is really impressive! The interior is so luxurious that I feel like I could live in the back seat. The quattro AWD makes powering through turns with confidence a breeze, something that BMW enthusiasts may not understand (I traded in my BMW 535IS for this beauty). The stopping power and cornering traction are incredible. It's surprising that BMW gets so much hype from the media while ignoring the 2.7T 6 speed. Those who know about cars will definitely choose this one. It has more room than a 330I or 530I, better traction, faster 0-60 time, nicer interior, and a solid warranty. I have had no problems with it except for two burned tail bulbs. My wife even traded in her SUV for an Audi A-6 Avant. We absolutely love this car!

  5. Olen Rolfson 2024-10-08

I don't have anything negative to say about my Audi! It has over 153,000 miles and the only issue it recently had was a cracked oil pan that caused a leak. Fortunately, I have a 3rd party warranty company that covered 50% of the cost, and I only had to pay $193 for the replacement. It's performing much better and more affordably than my previous Ford. I have no regrets!
