Upon deployment of the driver's frontal air bag, excessive internal pressure may cause the inflator to rupture.
- Consequence: In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the driver's frontal air bag, the inflator could rupture with metal fragments striking the vehicle occupants potentially resulting in serious injury or death.
- Remedy: Volkswagen will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver's frontal air bag inflators, free of charge. Volkswagen issued an interim notification to owners on April 12, 2016, and will send a second notification when parts are available. Volkswagen will notify owners again once parts are available. I hope you're doing well! I noticed that you mentioned the ECM/TCM reprogramming from IE. It can be a bit pricey if you have the auto trans and have to flash that, but it really does work wonders. The car is now quicker by a second 0-60 than the GTI of the era, which is amazing! It's an absolute riot to drive. The only downside is that it requires high octane fuel which can be quite expensive nowadays, but since you don't drive many miles a week, it shouldn't be too much of an issue. I had a new thought on suspension. I think the Koni Sports are over-damped for these springs. The FSD or a Bilstein B8 would be a better choice. Overall, it's a great car. It's a total sleeper now that you've finally installed the sport suspension. The factory VW DG springs with Koni sport dampers look great and lower the car by 1 inch, which is more sporty and aggressive but doesn't look 'slammed'. The handling is on par with a GTI from the era (i.e. before adaptive dampers). The ride is somewhat firmer but not harsh, and it's so much fun on a twisty back road. With 75K miles now, not a single issue has arisen. You have new plugs and coil packs to install, but that is preventative only. There are no squeaks or rattles, and no rust anywhere (even underneath). They really built this car right. Your next upgrade will be the eco/tcu tune from Integrated Engineering. There's a lot of potential in that lowly 2.5 engine, and the engine tune is stupid fun. It can go from 0-60 in 6.8-6.9, which is better than the stock GTI of the era. The only downside besides the initial cost is that it requires premium grade fuel, which has become a bit pricey. Still, with all the abuse, not a single thing has broken on this car. You've done nothing short of religious maintenance (which includes 5K oil changes on synthetic, not 10K as allowed). It's fun, it's practical, it's bulletproof, and I think it looks cool. Adding a factory Votex body kit in the spring will make it look even cooler. In my opinion, it's the best car you've ever owned!

I chose this car over a Nissan Frontier truck mainly for its MPG, and I was excited to see that the EPA rating was 23 city/31 Hwy. Although I did not purchase the extended warranty for my auto, I encountered an issue with the sunroof getting stuck open and tilted on one side. Despite the dealer's inability to identify the problem, they estimated a cost of $2048 to fix it, assuming the worst-case scenario of a broken frame. It is worth noting that I barely used the sunroof, but living in the woods on a gravel road may have caused it to stick due to dust and spruce needles. Additionally, the sensor for the window washing fluid broke, despite my use of antifreeze window washer fluid. It is advisable to purchase the warranty, especially if you opt for the sunroof, as repairs can be costly. However, I will consider a different brand for my next purchase.
