  • Date Complaint: 2015-12-07
  • VIN: WV2MH47H016
  • Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: THE ISSUE WITH THE VEHICLE IS THAT AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF PRESSURE AND HEAT BUILDS UP INSIDE THE GAS TANK WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED AND TO EVEN A GREATER EXTENT WHEN IN STOP-N-GO TRAFFIC OR SITTING IN THE PARKING LOT IDLING. THE RESULT IS THAT WHEN OPENING THE GAS CAP FROM HOT FUMES AND FUEL SPRAY OUT AFTER RUNNING THE VEHICLE FOR LESS THAN AN HOUR. THERE ARE NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS OR CHECKS IN PLACE TO WARN OR PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING. IT IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN! I HAVE BEEN WORKING WITH THE VW DEALER FOR OVER ONE YEAR NOW BUT STILL NO RESOLVE. UNDER THE DIRECTION OF VW OF AMERICA THEIR CERTIFIED MECHANICS HAVE SYSTEMATICALLY REPLACED ALMOST ALL OF THE COMPONENTS RELATING TO THE FUEL SYSTEM BUT TO NO RESOLVE. AT THIS POINT THE PROBLEM STILL PERSIST AND THE DEALERSHIP IS RELUCTANT TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THE GAS TANK IS ACTUALLY HEATING UP EVEN THOUGH THEY HAVE REPRODUCED THE RESULTS IN THEIR SHOP. I DO HAVE A VIDEO OF THE PROBLEM IN ACTION BUT AM UNABLE TO SHARE THAT WITH YOU THROUGH THE DOCUMENT UPLOADING SYSTEM. BY THE WAY I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THE VEHICLE AND HAVE ALWAYS HAD IT SERVICED AT THE CERTIFIED VW DEALERSHIP.

OF AMERICA, WHICH I DID IMMEDIATELY, AS I SPOKE WITH THE CUSTOMER SERVICE REP. I WAS TOLD THAT VW. USES THE SAME BRAKE PADS FOR ALL VEHICLES FROM THE BEETLE TO THE SUV'S AND CAMPERS. Latest negative Volkswagen Eurovan car reviews

  1. Salvatore Bauch 2025-07-26

    Vehicle year: 2000

I just want to start by saying that I absolutely love this van! As a camping and bike racing family, we find it to be incredibly useful, comfortable, and spacious. However, I have had some issues with the HVAC system, which unfortunately occurred outside of the warranty period. I have had to make 5 visits to the dealer in the past 18 months to address this issue, and it seems that I will need to make another visit soon as the error code for the HVAC has started flashing again. Additionally, some other electronic problems have arisen, making this the most expensive vehicle I have ever owned in terms of maintenance costs, especially considering that these issues have occurred within the first 80,000 miles. Despite these challenges, I still love my van and hope to resolve these issues soon.

  2. Hiram Hansen 2025-07-03

    Vehicle year: 2002

The van is really spacious and looks great! It's perfect for road trips or vacations, especially if you have kids. We haven't had any major issues with it, and even when the A/C went out, the dealer replaced it promptly under warranty. The ride is comfortable, although there is some noise from outside. Overall, I would definitely consider buying another one in the future!

  3. Kayden Schmitt 2025-06-29

    Vehicle year: 1993

I purchased a Eurovan from someone because my wife is a big fan of VWs. Unfortunately, within a year of owning it, we experienced several issues such as transmission problems, stalling, and the A/C stopped working. We also had to replace the catalytic converter and dealt with other minor issues like the door locks not working. The cost of repairs for Volkswagens is quite high. Additionally, the vehicle is underpowered with only about 100 horsepower, which makes it difficult to maintain speed on hills while driving on the highway. After this experience and my wife's negative experience with her Jetta, I have decided not to purchase another VW product again.

  4. Kendrick Hermiston 2025-06-09

    Vehicle year: 2003

At 3000 miles, my 03 MV has encountered a few issues such as fuzzy sounding speakers, a non-functional Heater/AC blower, a driver side window washer that doesn't work, and peeling plastic on the driver side door handle. Despite these issues, I am still keeping the VW due to its fresh warranty. However, I must admit that I prefer the comfort of my 2000 GMC Safari. It's unfortunate that it's near the end of its warranty cycle and I have put it up for sale.

  5. Eusebio Larkin 2025-06-02

    Vehicle year: 1997

I absolutely adore my 1993 Volkswagen EuroVan for its phenomenal interior space! It can accommodate anything from building materials to furniture to people. However, I have had to invest a lot of money into repairing it repeatedly, which has been a bit of a disappointment. I have been towed so many times that the local tow truck driver recognizes me as soon as he gets the call! Although it is now worth more in parts than as a whole, I cannot bring myself to sell it because I love it. Unfortunately, it has not been very reliable lately, and I cannot drive it because it won't stay running.

    Vehicle year: 1997

I bought my VW Weekender for one main reason: camping. I know the van is a little underpowered, but I don't mind. I've owned this van for almost 9 years and I still like it.

  2. Connor Jacobson 2025-07-23

    Vehicle year: 2003

This is my second Eurovan and my fifth VW van. I'm really impressed with the performance of this 2003 model compared to other VW vans. The pickup is outstanding and the traction control (ESP) is the best I've ever driven. Braking is excellent. The only issue I've had is that I've had to replace the brake pads at thirty thousand mile intervals (using factory brake parts). Overall, it's a really solid vehicle and the VR6 engine is a monster!

  3. Horace Koelpin 2025-07-20

    Vehicle year: 1999

At first, the price may seem a bit steep, but I have come to love it and my wife is absolutely thrilled with it. There is no other van out there that can do everything this one can. It's not just a car like the Odessy or Chrysler, it's a versatile vehicle that can be used as a daily family driver, a camper, a hauler, and a long-trip cruiser. It can easily maintain a speed of 80 mph all day, has better seats than my Audi A4, handles safely (if not sportily), and can even pull my horse trailer. My brother bought a 2000.5 and he's very happy with it, using it for both family outings and to tow his SCCA race cars. While it's not perfect, there's simply no competition in the market. The quirks of this vehicle are only a real issue if you don't really need this type of vehicle.

My dad bought our Eurovan back in 1997, when I was just a young person (more than I am now), and ever since then our family has had great experiences in this van. This is the car I learned to drive on, and I have to say after putting several thousand miles on it, I absolutely love it. Yes, I have driven other standard shift cars (some very sporty ones at that), and after nearly 200K the gearbox is still great. Until it was about 12 years old, it had absolutely no mechanical issues. Sure, parts and repairs can be expensive, but that doesn't take away from how amazing this van is. Just the other day I drove it over the 193,000 mile mark, and I can't wait to get it to 200,000!
