I IMMEDIATELY TURNED OFF THE SEAT HEATER AND PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. UPON EXAMINING THE SEAT, I FOUND THE SEAT HEATER HAD BURNED A HOLE AT BASE OF THE LOWER BACK WHERE THE UPPER SEAT MEETS THE LOWER SEAT CUSION (AS SEEN IN THE ATTACHED PHOTO). I TURNED OFF THE SEAT HEATER AND HAVE NOT USED IT SINCE. I AM CONCERNED AROUND THE SAFETY OF THIS FEATURE AND UPON SPEAKING TO A VW REPRESENTATIVE, THEY STATED I WOULD NEED TO PURCHASE A NEW SEAT AND HAVE THEM REPLACE IT AT FULL COST.

HERZOG-MEIER VOLKSWAGEN (LOCATED AT 4275 SW 139TH WAY, BEAVERTON OR, 97005, TEL: 503-644-9121) WAS CONTACTED; HOWEVER, THE CONTACT WAS REFERRED TO THE MANUFACTURER FOR ASSISTANCE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CALLED AND THE CONTACT WAS REFERRED BACK TO THE LOCAL DEALER TO HAVE THE VEHICLE DIAGNOSED. THE MECHANIC WAS ABLE TO DIAGNOSE AND CONFIRM THE FAILURE OF THE SEAT WARMER, BUT THE SEAT WAS NOT REPLACED DUE TO THE AGE OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000.

- Summary: THE ISSUE WITH THE VEHICLE IS THAT AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF PRESSURE AND HEAT BUILDS UP INSIDE THE GAS TANK WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED AND TO EVEN A GREATER EXTENT WHEN IN STOP-N-GO TRAFFIC OR SITTING IN THE PARKING LOT IDLING. THE RESULT IS THAT WHEN OPENING THE GAS CAP FROM HOT FUMES AND FUEL SPRAY OUT AFTER RUNNING THE VEHICLE FOR LESS THAN AN HOUR. THERE ARE NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS OR CHECKS IN PLACE TO WARN OR PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING. IT IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN! I HAVE BEEN WORKING WITH THE VW DEALER FOR OVER ONE YEAR NOW BUT STILL NO RESOLVE. UNDER THE DIRECTION OF VW OF AMERICA THEIR CERTIFIED MECHANICS HAVE SYSTEMATICALLY REPLACED ALMOST ALL OF THE COMPONENTS RELATING TO THE FUEL SYSTEM BUT TO NO RESOLVE. AT THIS POINT THE PROBLEM STILL PERSIST AND THE DEALERSHIP IS RELUCTANT TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THE GAS TANK IS ACTUALLY HEATING UP EVEN THOUGH THEY HAVE REPRODUCED THE RESULTS IN THEIR SHOP. I DO HAVE A VIDEO OF THE PROBLEM IN ACTION BUT AM UNABLE TO SHARE THAT WITH YOU THROUGH THE DOCUMENT UPLOADING SYSTEM. BY THE WAY I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THE VEHICLE AND HAVE ALWAYS HAD IT SERVICED AT THE CERTIFIED VW DEALERSHIP.

OF AMERICA, WHICH I DID IMMEDIATELY, AS I SPOKE WITH THE CUSTOMER SERVICE REP. I WAS TOLD THAT VW. USES THE SAME BRAKE PADS FOR ALL VEHICLES FROM THE BEETLE TO THE SUV'S AND CAMPERS. THAT DIDN'T MAKE ANY SENSE AND AS I WENT FURTHER INTO THE DISCUSSION, WAS DIRECTED TO THE ENGINEERS FOR MORE CLARIFICATION SINCE THEY WOULD BE MORE INDICATED . AS I SPOKE WITH AN ENGINEER, THEY TOLD ME YES THAT VW. USES THE SAME BRAKE FOR A VEHICLE OF 2000PDS. AS WELL 6000PDS. AS I TRIED TO EXPLAIN THAT USING THE SAME BRAKES ON HEAVIER VEHICLES VW. WAS PUTTING THE LIFE OF THE DRIVERS AND PASSENGERS IN DANGER, SINCE THE VEHICLE OF 6000PDS. WILL BRAKE DIFFERENTLY THAT ONE THAT WEIGHTS 2000PDS. RUDELY AND SARCASTICLY REPLY THAT I AM NOT QUALIFY TO ARGUE THE CASE WITH THEM AND HANG UP. THIS LETS ME TO BELIEVE THAT VW. CARES LESS ABOUT CUSTOMERS AND ONLY CARE ABOUT THE MONEY THAT THEY MAKE EVERY TIME WE HAVE TO REPLACE, PADS, ROTORS AND CALIPERS. THIS SITUATION AS TO END AND VW. HAS TO CORRECT THIS MATTER AS CONTINUOUSLY THEY ARE PUTTING PEOPLE IN DIRE DANGER, IF THEY ARE NOT AWARE OF THIS SITUATION, PEOPLE THAT I HAVE SPOKE HAVE THE SAME VEHICLE AND HAVE FOUND THEMSELVES IN THE SAME PREDICAMENT. - Summary: Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2003 Volkswagen Passat sedan, Jetta, Jetta wagon, Golf, EuroVan, EuroVan Camper Van and EuroVan Chassis vehicles. Upon deployment of the driver's frontal air bag, excessive internal pressure may cause the inflator to explode.
- Consequence: In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the driver's frontal air bag, the inflator could explode with metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
- Remedy: Volkswagen will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver's frontal air bag inflator, free of charge. The recall began May 2, 2019. Owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 69X3.

- Summary: THESE STEERING WHEELS AND INCLUDE A UNIVERSAL JOINT WHICH IS ATTACHED TO STEERING SHAFTS AND SECURED BY LOCKING BOLTS. THE UNIVERSAL JOINT'S UPPER LOCKING BOLT WAS NOT SUFFICIENTLY TORQUED DURING MANUFACTURE, AND CAN EVENTUALLY LOOSEN.
- Consequence: IF THE UPPER LOCKING BOLT HOLDING THE STEERING ASSEMBLY'S UNIVERSAL JOINT LOOSENS, IT CAN RENDER THE STEERING SYSTEM INOPERATIVE AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT.
- Remedy: DEALERS WILL REMOVE THE PRESENT UNIVERSAL UPPER LOCKING BOLT, INSTALL A NEW ONE, AND TORQUE IT TO SPECIFICATIONS.

I have owned VW vans for a long time, and I must say that the GLS with VR6 is probably the best one I have ever had. It has power, comfort, and a really great exterior design. This is by far the prettiest shoe box I have ever seen!!

I hope you're doing well! I wanted to share my experience with my Eurovan. I purchased it used, when it was less than a year old and had about 11000 miles on it. Luckily, it was still under warranty and I haven't had any mechanical issues with it, except for a driveline seal that was replaced under warranty. I always take it to University VW in Albuquerque for servicing, and they've been great. Personally, I find it very comfortable to drive long distances, but my wife finds the seats a bit too tall (seat to floor) for sustained comfort. The VR6 provides fair acceleration, and we get about 20 mpg in terms of fuel economy. Additionally, the E'van is capable of pulling a light trailer, which is a great bonus. The 'bus' has been an excellent and reliable car for almost two years. It has better visibility than SUVs, is fast, and most importantly, has a huge interior. It is a perfect vacation road car for a family of five. We have had only two problems, a leaking oil cooler and water pump, both of which were repaired under warranty in less than a day. The 'bus' is unique, with not many on the road, and drives very well.

I drove a full-size Ford van for travel, but my wife found it too big. When I started looking at 'minivans', I was disappointed to find that they were less spacious than the station wagons I grew up with. They felt like sedans with an extra seat squeezed in. However, the newly designed Eurovan is incredibly spacious without taking up the whole road. It offers a commanding panoramic view of the road and can truly seat seven people comfortably. It takes me back to the old Microbus days, but it can climb hills like a champ. It's a great van!

This is the second VW Van we've owned and we absolutely love it! It's incredibly versatile and comfortable, with so many well thought out features that make it hard to describe all the good things VW built into this model. We plan on keeping this van for many years to come.

I completely understand Toledo Joe's frustration. I had all the same problems with my CL Eurovan, and even more. Within the first year, the rear A/C unit, battery, horn, and odometer all needed to be replaced. I also had the auto-shift lever get stuck at carparks three times, with the last time resulting in me having to tow it to the dealer. The engine is underpowered and very sluggish, and there is a big thump every time the automatic gear shifts. Additionally, rain seeps through from the window and windshield. While the new Passat looks nice, I don't think I have the courage to try another VW.
