The Toyota Prius v (for versatile), also named Prius α (pronounced as Alpha) in Japan, and Prius+ in Europe and Singapore, is a hybrid gasoline-electric automobile produced by Toyota introduced in Japan in May 2011, in the U.S. in October 2011, and released in Europe in June 2012. The Prius v was unveiled at the January 2011 North American International Auto Show alongside the Prius c Concept, and it is the first Prius variant to be spun off from the Prius platform. According to Toyota the "v" stands for "versatility". It is a compact MPV with a standard full hybrid drivetrain.

The Prius α was offered in the Japanese market with both nickel–metal hydride battery and lithium-ion battery. The Prius v in the U.S. was offered only with a nickel–metal hydride battery. As of April 2016, global sales totaled about 634,000 units, led by Japan with 428,400 units sold, representing 67.6% of global sales.

Specifications

The Prius v design resembles compact based minivans prevalent in Europe and has a drag coefficient of Cd=0.29 with a shape that evolved from the Prius. The exterior styling is rounded with an extended roofline that allows the vehicle to retain the triangular silhouette symbolic of Prius. Other differences are the trapezoidal-shaped front with sharp-edged headlamps and wind-slipping aero corners for improved aerodynamics, as well as an enlarged under grille. The rear styling has a specially designed roof spoiler that improves air flow.

The interior cargo space is more than 50% larger than the 2010 Toyota Prius, 5 inches (130 mm) longer and 1 inch (25 mm) wider, providing 34.3 cubic feet (970 L) of cargo space behind the rear seats; it also offers 38 inches (970 mm) of rear leg room, and more head height.

The Toyota Prius v includes many of the same standard features of the 2010 Prius, with four driving modes: Normal, Power, Eco and EV; smart key with push button start, an electronic shift lever, Hill Start Assist Control (HAC), and a back-up camera. Available options include energy-efficient LED headlamps, dynamic radar cruise control with a Pre-Collision System (PCS), and advanced parking guidance system. The Prius v has several technical advancements including Toyota's new Toyota Entune Multimedia System and a panoramic sunroof made of lightweight resin, 40% lighter than a glass roof of the same size. Entune premiered on the 2012 Toyota Prius v.

Common 2014 Toyota Prius v problems

Based on complaints from owners of the 2014 Toyota Prius V, common problems include:

  • Moldy Smell from Air Conditioning:
    • Another common problem is a moldy smell emanating from the air conditioning system within the first 10,000 miles of use. This issue is often due to a clogged A/C drain line, a common occurrence across Toyota vehicles. Clearing the line is a simple task that can be handled by many shops for under $50.
  • Engine Not Starting:
    • Some owners have experienced difficulties with the engine failing to start at around 5,000 miles. This problem is typically caused by a dead 12-volt battery used to initiate the engine. Leaving electronics on with the engine off can drain the battery. Replacing the battery costs approximately $300, depending on labor rates.
  • Hybrid Inverter Recalls:
    • The 2014 Toyota Prius V has been subject to average recalls related to the hybrid inverter shutting down suddenly, leading to potential stalling. Toyota has addressed this issue with a software update that can be installed at dealerships for free, ensuring the safety and reliability of the vehicle.

These problems, while notable, are considered minor compared to other compact cars from the same year, with affordable repair costs. Regular maintenance and addressing these issues promptly can help maintain the longevity and performance of the 2014 Toyota Prius V.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-10-03
  • VIN: JTDKN3DU4E0
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES
  • Summary: I was driving on the highway during rush hour when a loud beeping noice began. My 15 year old cousin was in the passenger seat and began to check for the source of the beeping. I was driving 55mph on a busy highway with no safe shoulder stop. As I was preparing for the exit, the brakes suddenly became dysfunctional. The pedal was extremely hard to press down and I found myself unable to slow down the car in enough time to avoid hitting upcoming traffic. I found myself in an urgent, life threatening situation and needed to pull over into the emergency lane located before the exit. I could not just consider my safety, but that of other drivers and my 15 year old passenger. She is traumatized. I was able to get the car to stop with my entire weight on the pedal. Once stopped, I scrambled to find the reason for the sudden brake problem, checking if anything rolled under my foot, if the floor mat was loose, if the gear shift was wrong, even checked if I accidentally hit the emergency brake. Nothing was out of place. No new dash lights. I looked in the manual. I had no information. I went to jiffy lube and they performed a diagnostic test and informed me they are unable see all the codes with hybrids because Toyota’s computer can only see Just in August I went to Toyota for my oil change, nothing was said about the brakes needing to be fixed and how repairing them now would prevent the failure of the accumulator pump system. If I had known paying $400-$500 for the brakes then would prevent having to pay $3000 to replace a pump. I would have made that sacrifice and went outside of my budget. This is paramount information that should be disclosed to all Toyota customers that take their car in for care and pay. After further research, I STRONGLY BELIEVE TOYOTA EMPLOYEES PURPOSELY WITHHOLD INFORMATION FROM THEIR CUSTOMERS NOT INFORMING CONSUMERS ABOUT AVOIDING PUMP FAILURE AND THE NEED REPAIR THEIR BRAKES AND IS COMPLICIT IN ANY INCIDENT CAUSED BY PUMP FAILURE MAY CAUSE.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-10-18
  • VIN: JTDZN3EU0EJ
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,SERVICE BRAKES
  • Summary: Car was diagnosed at a Toyota dealership with a brake booster issue reading code 20TE07 after my vehicles brakes suddenly would not work and the car continued to jolt forward. The brakes wouldn’t stop the car. According to Toyota, my vehicle is three months outside of the warranty period but under the covered mileage so we are left to repair this defect ourselves. This was a very dangerous situation and could have cost us and our children our lives instead of just the $4800 repair cost. This has happened to both of our Prius’s so this is not a rare issue. Toyota needs to have a plan for these parts failing suddenly and they should all be recalled for safety in my opinion. The experience was very scary and we had zero control over the vehicle when the brakes suddenly went out. Where do I join the class action lawsuit?

SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-10-16
  • VIN: JTDKN3DU9E0
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES
  • Summary: Without warning, my brakes completely stopped working and I was fortunate enough to be somewhere I was able to pull over without being killed. Toyota is aware of this issue, but put a 10 year timeline on the complementary repair, which is totally unacceptable, as owners were not notified directly about this program, therefore how could we know it existed, was a problem, and to go get it fixed within their arbitrary deadline? I could have died losing brakes on the freeway, or even could have killed or injured others. This is a known, and severe safety hazard, and Toyota is not taking responsibility. It is unconscionable. Hoping for a class action lawsuit. It was a $5500 repair in California, which was almost the value of the car. Absolutely brutal and horrendous business practices from this company. Shame on them. I hope this agency NHTSA will add this report to the pile of others who have reported this, and actually take meaningful action for those of us who have been put at risk, and ripped off in the process.

SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-10-11
  • VIN: JTDKN3DU0E1
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES
  • Summary: My 2014 prius experienced a failing brake booster actuator assembly. I was driving when suddenly my traction control light came on and my brake pedal turned mushy. I pulled over to a parking lot and put my vehicle in park. As soon as I did this, the ABS and parking brake light both turned on. I had the vehicle towed to the Toyota dealership. They diagnosed the problem as an internal leak in the brake booster actuator assembly. This is a common problem with these vehicles, but instead of Toyota issuing a recall, they only did an extended warranty coverage of which my prius didn't fit the parameters. Now I am stuck with a vehicle that is unsafe to drive and a repair estimate of $3,900 because of one of their parts failing. This should clearly have been made a recall with the volume of prius owners experiencing this problem. What a disappointment after having 3 Toyotas for many years.

SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-09-24
  • VIN: JTDKN3DU2E0
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES
  • Summary: On [XXX] my brakes failed while driving, (brake booster and actuator) moving at 25 mph, all of a sudden lights ABS and brakes indicator light started flashing and beep. I was approaching a yellow light and attempting to slow down, my foot went to to floor and the were NO BRAKES. I used the EMG brake slow down me pulled into an empty parking lot. My vehicle is available for inspection at request. My safety was was put at risk due to having no control and coming very close to crashing into another car putting that driver at risks as well, but was blessed I was able to avoid an accident. This problem has been confirmed by Phillips Toyota in Leesburg FL #(352)728-3020. The vehicle components have not been inspected by others besides the dealer. I am 2 months over the 10yr customer support program at 102k miles. I have been complaining for the past YEAR to the dealer regarding strange noises like chirping, air deflating when pressing brakes, constant buzzing sounds from system even when car is off, and being propelled forward when going over gravel or railroad track surfaces of the ABS light goes on. This is on record and each time I’d ask, they’d mention it is the brake booster going but because there was no indicator lights or code coming up, they were unable to do anything. My last service in may 2024, I requested a diagnostic on the brake system, which I paid extra for, knowing the 10yr program was about to be expired in July. The dealer found no codes and assured me it was safe to drive and that if I were to see those warning light come on, that I was to drive the car straight to the dealer to inspect. Well, long story short, the lights came on, and immediately the were NO Brakes and I was completely out of control with no time to drive it safely to the dealer. I had it towed to the dealer and they quoted me $3000 to repair brake booster/actuator. I am working with Toyota corporate for compensation. This is a major safety issue that should be a RECALL! This puts the drivers, myself and fiance, at risk of catastrophic collision in the event that the brakes fail while driving. I will call Toyota to obtain a replacement of the system that has occurred with many other drivers. The vehicle has not been inspected by manufacturer yet but it is important to know that this is a serious problem that could kill people. The problem was identified when warning lights came up on the dashboard but there is also a sound coming from the brake actuator that shows a problem. The problem is due to manufacturer error, I have driven the vehicle normally.

SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-08-27
  • VIN: JTDKN3DU7E1
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES
  • Summary: So my wife is pulling into our driveway with my little ones and notices the ABS, traction control and Brake light come on. I then had the vehicle looked at by a local Toyota dealership and they tell me I'm getting code C1391 and that it's a known issue. They then tell me I'm out of my extended customer support warranty time frame and I will have to pay. According to NHTSA this is a known defect on this vehicle and it affects more than 100k Toyota Prius vehicles. So basically, we've been driving around in a vehicle that the brakes may fail at any moment and potentially kill us all but is only addressed by the manufacturer when the known failure occurs. Even then, they only address it if the error occurs during their set time frame. It seems this has been brought to NHTSA's attention on a few occasions and nothing has been done. I would think brakes are something that warrants a recall on a known defect. Thankfully my wife and kids weren't doing 70mph down the highway when the brakes all of the sudden stopped working.

  • Summary: This vehicle lost braking assist while in motion on a well known problem from TOYOTA. There has been class action lawsuits on this very fact. Toyota issued a customer service warranty for vehicles that have less than 150,000 and filed before March 2024! My car has 127k and failure was Sept 9 out of the warranty. I understand that there is a line if the sand however this needs to be a recall as it effects so many vehicles and it is dangerous! I am asking you urge them to make a recall for this! I have paid for this repair and am furious but I had to do it!

SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-04-15
  • VIN: JTDKN3DU1E0
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES
  • Summary: ABS actuator failed in April of 2023 after more than a year of constant whirling, which my mechanic didn't diagnose until after my dashboard lit up with errors. The issue was diagnosed by AAA mechanics after the dashboard warning lights lit up, with a $4,000 cost to repair. Brakes are spongy, car is rarely driven at this time. We were told that the brakes would continue to work, but the ABS system would not. Now the vehicle beeps constantly when driving, which appears to mean the brakes could fully fail at any time. Based on subsequent research, Toyota was quietly fixing the ABS acuator issue until last year, but it was not offered when my vehicle was brought in last year during another recall. When it failed the car was under 10 years and 150K.

SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-08-07
  • VIN: JTDZN3EU4E3
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES
  • Summary: Brakes failed to stop vehicle for over almost ½ of a block. The driver, a young woman, was so terrified that she is refusing to drive the car even after the brakes have been repaired. It is my understanding that Toyota is aware of this problem and has issued directives for its dealers to make the necessary repairs. However, I was told that this was extended to 150,000 miles or 10 years from first in service date. I am including the invoice from Lipton Toyota for over $4,000 and I am respectfully requesting that Toyota makes this right and refunds this money. The failure of a braking system represents a critical life threatening situation of which no one can deniy.

SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-08-18
  • VIN: JTDKN3DU2E1
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES
  • Summary: My car started exhibiting signs of a known brake booster/brake systems failure for Priuses in the 2010-2015 range. These include the ABS, brake system, and skid/traction lights coming on and a 3-5 cycling whirring noise. The brake sensitivity is also altered. This happened suddenly today. I checked the battery voltage (normal), so this is not causing the issue. After investigating online, I have discovered that many consumers have experienced the same issue and are being denied a recall/repair coverage by Toyota. Today, I am reaching out to Toyota to see if the replacement/repair, which should be in the range of $3-4k will be covered by Toyota. According to numerous other Prius owners online, this issue is being denied by Toyota for coverage, even though it is something they are fully aware of. This is unacceptable and dangerous on their part. My vehicle has 110k miles, was leased used last year, and has not had any issues otherwise. I am up to date with all routine maintenance, including getting my pads replaced and rotors maintained last year as well as new tires.

SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-08-10
  • VIN: JTDZN3EU0E3
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES
  • Summary: I have a 2014 Toyota Prius V. I was driving down the highway at 55 m/h when my brakes became spongy all of a sudden and the ABS, traction and brake lights came on the dashboard. I was very scared and seeing that my brakes were failing I almost caused an accident that could have cost my life and my family's. I managed to get home safely and after scanning the system got the code C1391 - ABORMAL LEAK IN ACCUMULATOR. I did some research and this defect is so well known that Toyota launched a costumer program to replace the booster for free. I took it to a Toyota dealership and they wont't replace it though because the program expired a couple of months ago. This is an expensive and life-threatening part. The defect comes from the manufacturing facility, not from usage, so Toyota should be responsible for it.

SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-07-31
  • VIN: JTDZN3EU3E3
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES
  • Summary: I am a US military member stationed in Germany. I bought my Toyota Prius V used, in 2020, knowing I'd be stationed in Europe and expressly because of Toyotas reliability and Prius's great mileage. This was our family's third Prius and a sixth Toyota vehicle. It's been almost exactly 2 years since my family moved to Germany, when one day I was driving through a small town, below the speed limit of 35 mph (50 km/h). Suddenly, while driving, the red BRAKE light, yellow ABS light, and red brake system warning lights came on all at once. The car's brake continued to work normally but I also started hearing a low volume, frequent, 1-sec long electronic buzzing sound coming from somewhere the front of the car, on the driver's side. It was audible every 3 seconds or so, even after the car was put in Park and turned off, then it went off after a couple minutes. I took the car to a local German Toyota leadership to have the problem diagnosed. The Service Department told me later that day the DTC1391 was identified, and the brake booster assembly + brake booster pump assembly needed to be replaced, at a total cost of this repair being over EUR 9,000 (around $9,900). The parts themselves were quoted to cost EUR 3,500 and EUR 4,000 each, and would have to be ordered from the US. I cannot afford to pay $10K to repair a 10-year old car. After some research, I discovered while Toyota never issued a recall, they knew about this brakes problem since 2018. I found several "Customer Support Program" notifications to Prius owners for this specific problem, including the one numbered 20TE07 which applied to 2012-2015 Prius's V. It told dealers to do this repair free of charge and extended the coverage for 10 years or 150,000 miles It also had info on repair cost reimbursement to customers. Hoping I could get my car fixed and file for reimbursement I called Toyota US and was told this CSP expired in Mar 2024 for my VIN and that there was nothing Toyota would be able to do.

  • Summary: Brake warning lights illuminated and loud beeping for the first time. Took the car to local repair shop who advised me to take it to the dealership. Dealership indicates that R&R Brake Booster assembly with master cylinder and brake booster pump assembly need to be replaced at over $3100 and brakes are at risk of failure. I researched and found the NHTSA Customer Support Bulletin - [XXX] indicating this known issue. The support period expired in March and mileage has now exceeded the limit for support. Though I have had the car in the dealership for service many times, this was never brought to my attention. The dealership advised me to contact Toyota. Toyota then advised me to contact NHTSA about the problem. Further research indicates ongoing problems with this issue that have not been resolved - [XXX] should have issued a recall for this important safety issue. SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-07-24
  • VIN: JTDKN3DU8E1
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES
  • Summary: Brake Booster Assembly in my 2014 Toyota Prius began cycling more often than usual in December 2023. By March 2024 it began cycling approximately every 30 seconds. Randomly while stopped or parked, there would be four warning lights illuminated on the dash - SLIP indicator, both Brake System Warning Lights - the word "Brake" and the "((!))", and ABS Warning Light. By June 2024, I would also randomly lose stopping power & a great distance was necessary to stop the vehicle. I took the Prius into my local Toyota Service Center where it was recommended both the Brake Booster Pump and Brake Booster Actuator be replaced. When I brought up Toyota's Customer Support Program for which my Prius is eligible in terms of age, mileage, and symptoms, I was told a DTC is required to verify the issue. According to this local Toyota dealership, the Master Tech confirming the issue and recommending replacement is not sufficient. Since the lights were illuminated, I asked why there was no stored DTC. They responded "Well, I'm not sure" and continued to reference the required DTC. This brake assembly is an issue that Toyota has acknowledged, but fails to accept full responsibility by issuing a recall. This gross negligence by a vehicle manufacturer.

The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed and attempting to stop the vehicle, the brake pedal was stiff and would not depress easily, requiring exhaustive effort to depress and bring the vehicle to a complete stop. The brake, traction control, and ABS warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a brake booster and brake pump assembly failure. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 116,000. The VIN was not available.

SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-07-01
  • VIN: JTDZN3EU5E3
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
  • Summary: Four warning lights related to the braking system illuminate, followed by what seems to be the cessation of the ABS. After 5 minutes of driving, the lights went off and abs returned, although brakes are shaky. The abs seems to be a known faulty park and is covered under warranty but only up to 150,000 miles. When taken to a dealer, the repair shop recommended I call corporate. Citing the arbitrary mileage limit, the Toyota mechanic seemed convinced the corporate office would cover the cost, saying he’s seen it done on a case by case basis. This coverage should be made unilaterally for all car owners with this defect, not simply those willing to fight for it. Class action lawsuits over what seems to be a similar issue have been privately settled.

  • Crash: 1
  • VIN: JTDZN3EU5EJ
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC
  • Summary: The contact owns a 2014 Toyota Prius V. The contact stated that the vehicle was previously involved in two car crashes, where the vehicle rear-ended other vehicles due to the brakes failure. The air bags did not deploy. A police report was filed after the second crash, but the information was not available. The contact stated that the other driver sustained unknown injuries during the second crash. The vehicle sustained damages and was repaired. There was no further information provided. Additionally, the contact stated while driving at various speeds and depressing the brake pedal, the brakes made an abnormal sound and the brake pedal was spongy. The contact stated that the vehicle hesitated to respond. The ABS warning light and several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the brake booster had failed and needed to be replaced. The dealer informed the contact that it was a known failure; however, the repair could not be covered because the vehicle had a salvage title. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.

SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-05-23
  • VIN: JTDKN3DU0E1
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES
  • Summary: Drove car to work one morning and it was VERY difficult to brake almost causing an accident. Brought it into the Toyota shop and they said this code came up: DTC code C1391: Abnormal leak of accumulator pressure ,recommending to replace brake booster and brake booster pump assembly internal malfunction of components. The necessity of its routine replacement is vital as an old or malfunctioning unit leads to decreased braking performance and ultimately brake failure. They told me that there was a program offered to customers where they would replace this known issue, but I'm 2 months outside of this so the issue is no longer covered under Toyota. The fact that this is a known issue that Toyota does not want to recall is ridiculous and now they want customers to pay for it.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-05-03
  • VIN: JTDKN3DUXE1
  • Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE
  • Summary: 2014 Toyota Prius: While driving at high speed the engine stalled unexpectedly, steering and braking were not effected. Was able to safely coast to a stop in the breakdown lane and after a few minutes, restart the engine and proceed driving. Another event occurred on the entrance ramp onto an interstate highway. I was able to pull over safely and the car restarted after a short delay. This seems to be a very dangerous condition. Toyota dealer service said they could not determine the cause and they know of no recall. I found online a reference to NHTSA Recall # 20V369000 that referred to "unexpected hybrid power system shut down." That is what happened to me.

Negative 2014 Toyota Prius v car reviews

  1. Jabari Gleichner 2025-01-05

This car is really fun to drive! It's sporty and has no problem getting up to speed to pass. I especially love the cruise control that keeps you from accelerating beyond the settings even on a long, downhill slope. However, it's important to note that you may not get the full 50mpg as advertised unless you're driving at a slower pace. Regardless of where I drive (mountains, freeway, city), I never get better than 46 mpg. The zippy, tight turns and easy parking may take some getting used to, but it's worth it. The rear storage area is larger than it appears, and it seats five people comfortably. Although, like most cars today, you will have to move anything you have in the storage area to change a tire. I did have to find a cushion to raise the seat up to a good driving level, since seat height is not adjustable. If you have lower back issues, you may need to find another cushion since there's not much support there. The backup camera is standard, but the rear visibility is not great. However, the visors do cover most of the possibilities. The climate controls, digital displays, and navigation can be a bit tricky to operate, but once you get the hang of it, it's not too bad. Overall, this car is a great choice for anyone looking for a fun and sporty ride!Toyota used to have a really user-friendly three-dial control system. It was so intuitive that you could easily adjust the temperature to your liking by simply turning the dial to the red zone if you were too cold, the blue zone if you were too hot, or the white zone if you wanted outside air mixed in. It was incredibly effective and easy to use. Plus, you never had to worry about your furry friends accidentally changing your settings!

The car has some areas for improvement, but overall it is well-packaged and efficient. The driving controls are decent and the central gauge cluster is acceptable. Although the infotainment system is slow and the resistive touchscreen is not ideal, it still serves its purpose. The Prius power train could be more refined, but it is still capable of carrying what is needed and achieving over 40 mpg in mixed driving. The brakes can be overly grippy at low speeds and mushy at high speeds, but this is a minor issue. Despite some drawbacks, the car is a great choice for those who prioritize efficiency and practicality.

Welcome to the Prius V by Toyota! While prioritizing reliability, this vehicle may require some compromises. However, you can trust in the Toyota brand to get you where you need to go without breaking the bank on gas prices. It's important to note that the IIHS safety rating for this vehicle is not the highest, but we still believe in the merits of the Prius V. Thank you for considering this eco-friendly option!

Positive 2014 Toyota Prius v car reviews

  1. Pablo Cremin 2024-11-18

I bought this car used with less than 7k miles in January. It's a significant improvement over my 08 Mazda 5. Although the rear room is the same, the mpg is twice that of the Mazda 5! My husband, toddler, and two mutts all fit just fine. My husband loves it, and it has plenty of room for him (he's 6'2

I can't think of anything negative to say about this car. Congratulations on owning two Toyota Prius!

It's great to hear that you're interested in driving our fully capable economy car!

  4. Irving Altenwerth 2024-09-23

If you're considering purchasing a used Prius V, don't worry! I've driven mine for 130,000 miles and it hasn't cost me anything beyond regular maintenance. I haven't even had to replace the brake pads yet. Recently, I met an Uber driver who had a 2014 Prius with 312,000 miles on it and he hadn't had to replace the battery pack or do anything other than regular maintenance. With an average of 42mpg on the highway and 48mpg in the city, it has saved me a lot of money on both gas and maintenance compared to my previous vehicles. The only downside is the road noise, especially on poorly maintained concrete highways. However, we were able to reduce the noise significantly by purchasing low tread noise Bridgestone tires at 30,000 miles. This vehicle has never had any issues keeping up with traffic through the mountains, even when fully loaded and driving to Florida twice a year. If it continues to perform this well, it may outlast me with its 20,000 miles driven annually!

Hi there! I understand you're looking for a car that can handle winter weather and has higher seating. While the Prius is a great car, it may not be the best fit for your needs since it's a lighter weight vehicle with only front wheel drive. I know the market is currently strong in SUVs, but don't worry - you don't have to change if you're still happy with your Prius V! It's reliable, roomy, and gets an impressive 40 mpg. Thanks for considering your options!
