2003 Toyota Mr2 spyder problems

The Toyota MR2 is a line of two-seater, mid-engined, rear-wheel-drive sports cars, manufactured in Japan and marketed globally by Toyota from 1984 until 2007 over three generations: W10 (1984–1989), W20 (1989–1999) and W30 (1999–2007). It is Japan's first rear mid-engined production car.
Conceived as a small, economical and sporty car, the MR2 uses simple but effective design elements, including an inline-four engine, transversely mounted in front of the rear axle, four-wheel disc brakes, and fully independent coilover suspension – MacPherson strut fronts and Chapman strut rears.
The name MR2 stands for either "mid-ship run-about 2-seater" or "mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive, 2-seater". In French-speaking markets, the vehicle was renamed Toyota MR because the abbreviation "MR2" sounds like the profanity "merde" when spoken in French.

The MR2 may not be the first choice for soccer moms, farmers, or those who prioritize practicality over fun. However, if you're looking for a reliable, economical, relatively rare, good-looking, and super fun way to get from point A to B, the MR2 is unbeatable.

I recently took my Spyder to Victoria, BC and had a bit of a management challenge trying to fit both mine and my wife's luggage into the small box behind the seats. However, we managed to even stuff a small suitcase into the well where the top folds in. We drove 1000 miles up and 1000 miles back, and despite having minimal luggage, we had a blast in this car. I felt safe driving it as it can outrun any truck or SUV on the highway, and around town, no one can even come close. The car attracted lots of attention, especially since it's not available in Canada. On top of its speed, handling, and style, it also has good mileage. I haven't had this much fun in a long time!

I have the sequential shift '03 model. This car is like a big go-cart. It takes corners well and shifting is smooth. This car is a lot of fun to drive and garners a lot of envious looks by passer-bys.

This is such a fun little pocket rocket! Where else can you find this much performance, handling, and satisfaction for your money? I absolutely love the style and the attention we get from other drivers. The car is truly unique and turns heads wherever we go. While the six-speed SMT may not be as quick as the full manual five-speed, it is surprisingly nimble. This car loves to run in the high revs, corners like a cheetah, and makes weekend drives a whole lot of fun. The car feels solid and tight, with a near-perfect suspension.

The handling of this car is definitely superior to that of the Miata. Additionally, the mid-engine design and high-quality materials make it a great choice. Although it would have been nice if Toyota had given it an extra 20 horsepower, the car is still quite light and accelerates quickly. It also gets good mileage, averaging around 31 mpg. Overall, it's a fantastic car!

After driving over 35000 miles, it seems like my car has been experiencing some issues. The power steering and suspension have gone bad, and there are some rattles in the soft top, body, and exhaust system. Additionally, some small hardware parts have broken and the rear brakes have gone out. Unfortunately, it took a few weeks to get the necessary parts as they were not in stock.
