The Saab 9000 is a car produced by the Swedish company Saab from 1984 to 1998. Representing the company's foray into the executive car scene, it was developed as a result of the successes of the turbocharged 99 and 900 models. The 9000 remained in production until May 1998 and it was replaced by the Saab 9-5 in late 1997, although some final cars were produced into 1998. The Saab 9000 was only available with petrol engines, in two different 5-door hatchback designs or as a 4-door notchback.
Saab designed the 9000 as part of the Type Four platform in conjunction with the Italian automaker Fiat Automobiles. Fiat retailed similar derivative versions as the more basic Fiat Croma, the luxury-themed Lancia Thema, and the sports-oriented Alfa Romeo 164. Unlike the 164, which shares only the chassis, the Croma and Thema are outwardly similar to the 9000. As such, much of the bodywork appeared interchangeable between the 9000, Croma and Thema; for example, the doors. However, because Saab fitted heavier side impact protection they will not fit. Fiat had designed the Croma with no consideration of American crash test requirements, which forced Saab to strengthen the body by fitting various reinforcements. Thus, the front of the Saab is radically different from the Italian siblings due to the much improved crash protection. Only seven parts are actually interchangeable. The 9000's body was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro and Saab designer Björn Envall.
Despite being shorter overall than the 900 which was still produced in parallel, the 9000 has a longer wheelbase and greater interior space with 3.5 cubic metres (120 cu ft) of interior space 0.67 cubic feet (0.019 m3) in the boot, 1.6 cubic metres (57 cu ft) with rear seats folded), qualifying as an EPA-rated large car, a distinction shared only with the contemporary Rolls-Royce in America. This was achieved by installing the engine transversely to the direction of travel in the Saab 9000 (instead longitudinally as in the Saab 900). Unlike the 900 the 9000 kept the ignition switch in the more conventional steering column position rather than between the front seats. The inspiration for the seats was taken by Björn Envall from The Muppet Show's Pigs in Space, a sketch by the late puppeteer Jim Henson.
In total, 503,087 Saab 9000s were manufactured. These are divided into: 216,385 Saab 9000 CC (MY 1985–1991), 174,525 Saab 9000 CS (MY 1992–1998), 112,177 Saab 9000 CD (MY 1988–1997).

WAS TOLD BY SAAB THAT INSURANCE COMPANY WOULD SUBROGATE THE CLAIM IF THEY THOUGHT IT WAS WORTHWHILE. INSURANCE COMPANY (METLIFE) COMMENTED THAT LOSS WAS NOT LARGE ENOUGH TO PURSUE SUBROGATION. OBSERVED NO CONCERN THAT A PROBLEM COULD EXIST AND RAN INTO COMPLETE DENIAL OF ANY RESPONSIBILITY. CONCERN IS HOW AND WHY IT COULD HAVE HAPPENED AND UNDER SIMILAR CIRCUMSTANCES WILL OTHERS BE IN DANGER OF A LIKE HAZARD. This was my first car, which we traded for and had previously belonged to my dad for two years. The manual transmission was unlike any I had ever driven before - it was a bit stiff, but also very smooth. The car handled corners very well, and when you stepped on the gas, you could feel the 200hp. Despite this, it was not very loud and provided a nice, smooth ride. While the car did have a few minor problems, such as leaks in the radiator, I was able to fix them with some liquid sealant. Additionally, one door only opened from the outside and another only from the inside. For some reason, the off button lost connection and the air would non-stop blow no matter what you did, but at least it produced nice heat. The car had 206,000 miles on it and was running strong, with only a few minor quirks and cosmetic problems. Overall, I really grew to love this car and would definitely consider getting another one. 😁

I've owned this car for over a decade and it's been an incredibly reliable and trustworthy companion. Even with over 100,000 miles, it's still going strong. The design is so timeless that people are often surprised to learn it's nearly 11 years old.

My 94 9000 CSE Turbo gave up the ghost (i.e. transmission) at 136K, but it was still a great car. As a Saab enthusiast, I have owned several Saabs in the past, starting with an '84 900. I have always been impressed with their reliability and performance, and I am confident that my next Saab will be just as great. I am fortunate to have a specialized Saab mechanic who has always provided excellent service. I purchased this car with a little over 100K miles for only $5400, and it performed exceptionally well for a well-used machine. After 3 years and 30,000 miles, I took it to the desert and had one of the most fun rides to date - fast and smooth with great handling on those long lone stretches. Although replacing the transmission can be costly, I am confident that it is time to try the 9-5!

I really enjoy driving this car, although I would prefer a manual. The automatic 3spd with overdrive is quite particular about the speeds it shifts in, and it can be a bit difficult to downshift. Unfortunately, it hasn't been very reliable. In less than two years, I've had to replace the anti-vibration chains and gears, water pump, and radiator. The vibration issues were initially difficult to diagnose, and I've had four road failures, which resulted in tow charges, half-fixes, and so on. It was a great deal to start with at $6,000, but after spending $4,000 on repairs, it doesn't seem like such a good bargain anymore.

I was searching for a car to purchase that met my specific requirements. I wanted a vehicle that was visually appealing both inside and out, comfortable, spacious, fuel-efficient, and high-performing. After careful consideration, I decided to purchase a '97 Aero, which fit all of my criteria and was also affordable. I am thrilled with the acceleration and am looking forward to adding some upgrades for even better performance, such as a blowout valve, intake, and manual boost controller, which should give me around 250 horsepower. Overall, I am extremely satisfied with my purchase and feel that it meets all of my needs and desires.

I've found that regular trips to the shop can cost an average of $500, as various components such as the transmission, engine, and brakes may need attention every six months. On the upside, the ride is great - very smooth and comfortable, making for a luxurious experience. I would recommend taking good care of the car to avoid any unexpected expenses.

I bought my car with 130,000 miles on it, and now it has 150,000 miles. It's a great ride with good gas mileage (22 mpg in the city and almost 32 mpg on the highway). The turbo is a lot of fun, and the leather seats and climate control make it perfect for long trips. Although it's expensive, it's also very classy. However, it can be expensive to fix and impossible to repair in your own garage. I spent $3,500 on the car and about $8,000 on parts and labor, but it still runs. It can be hard to start when it's cold, but the turbo is easy to tune. With just a turbo boost, a K&N air filter, and high-octane (98 octane) fuel, mine has 235 torque and 205 horsepower. It beats any Civic or Integra with ease and even beat an '89 Mustang down a strip. It's a fun car for kids, but you'll need a good mechanic.

Although I have owned three Saabs, this one has been the least reliable. It has required multiple repairs, including the replacement of the heater core, head gasket, water pump, and fuel pump. Currently, it is leaking coolant all over my garage. Unfortunately, the prior owner also experienced mechanical problems while the car was still under warranty, which I only learned about after purchasing the vehicle.

Since I purchased the car, I have driven 8000 miles. I have had to replace the transmission, timing chain, and fuel pump. Unfortunately, the TCS problems are still present. Just a friendly warning to watch out for cars with TCS. On the bright side, it is the fastest four-cylinder car I have ever driven!
