Saab 9-7x problems

The Saab 9-7X is a mid-size luxury SUV that was built by General Motors for the American market and sold under the Saab marque. The 9-7X was first revealed at the 2004 New York International Auto Show, and was available starting in the model year of 2005, as a replacement for the Oldsmobile Bravada.
Information and vehicle details
The Saab 9-7X was introduced in 2004 for the 2005 model year and was made by General Motors, and the 9-7X was also built on the GMT360 platform, which is the same platform that the Chevrolet TrailBlazer, GMC Envoy, Isuzu Ascender, Oldsmobile Bravada, and Buick Rainier were all built on. The 9-7X was Saab's first-ever SUV.
The Saab 9-7X was originally available in two trim levels for 2005: the Linear and the Arc. The Saab 9-7X did not offer a turbocharged engine, quite unusual for a Saab vehicle. All Saab 9-7X vehicles come with all wheel drive (2005 was the first year all wheel drive was offered by Saab), eighteen inch sport wheels, and sport tuned suspension as standard equipment. The 9-7X was built at GM's Moraine, Ohio assembly plant. The Saab 9-7X is classified as a midsize luxury SUV.
When the 2005 Saab 9-7X had been introduced, it had served as the replacement for the Oldsmobile Bravada (which was discontinued as a direct result of the Oldsmobile brand being discontinued in 2004), along with the Buick Rainier. Most of the exterior styling on the Saab 9-7X and on the Buick Rainier was a direct transfer from the discontinued Bravada, except for a front fascia designed to resemble other Saab vehicles.
From 2005 to 2009, the Saab 9-7X was the second most expensive luxury SUV made by General Motors, the most expensive being the Cadillac Escalade. GM had marketed the Saab 9-7X as a direct competitor to more upmarket luxury SUVs, like the Volvo XC90 and the Volkswagen Touareg.
All Saab 9-7X models came standard with side curtain airbags, leather interior, heated front seats, automatic climate control, an AM/FM radio with a CD player and Bose speakers, as well as XM Satellite Radio, and OnStar. HomeLink was standard as well. All Saab 9-7X vehicles came with all-wheel drive as standard equipment. A touchscreen navigation system was available as an optional feature.
For the 2006 model year, the Linear trim level was renamed as the 4.2i, and the Arc trim level was renamed as the 5.3i. The 4.2i trim level comes with the 4.2L inline six engine, and was rated at 285 hp (213 kW) and 276 lb⋅ft (374 N⋅m) of torque. The 5.3L V8 engine was rated at an estimated 300 hp (224 kW) and 330 lb⋅ft (447 N⋅m) of torque.
The Saab 9-7X equipped with the 5.3L V8 engine has the capability to tow up to 6,500 lb (2,948 kg).
For the 2008 model year, the new Aero trim level was added as a more luxurious version of the Chevrolet Trailblazer SS. Both the Saab 9-7X Aero and the Chevrolet Trailblazer SS came with the 6.0L LS2 V8 engine, the same engine used in the 2005 to 2007 model of the Chevrolet Corvette modified for use in GMT360 vehicles. The Saab 9-7X also came with a 4L60E four speed automatic transmission as standard equipment.
Also for the 2008 model year, the Saab 9-7X with the 5.3L V8 engine was available with Displacement on Demand technology to reduce fuel consumption. Saab had made enhancements to the vehicle's GM made chassis. Saab had also added a lower ride height, firmer springs and shock absorbers, larger brakes with steel front calipers, a strengthened frame, steering revisions and a thicker front stabilizer bar.
A self leveling rear air suspension was also added. The 9-7X, along with the other GM midsize SUVs built on GM's GMT360 platform were originally scheduled to be redesigned for the model year of 2007, but instead, GM had decided to continue the production the GMT360 SUVs and to only give them minor updates.
The 9-7X as well as the other GMT360 midsize SUVs made by GM were not scheduled to be redesigned, updated, or to continue production after the 2009 model year, as a result of GM closing their Moraine, Ohio assembly plant, where the GMT360 SUVs were built on December 23, 2008. As a result, the Saab 9-7X was discontinued after the 2009 model year.

Common Saab 9-7x problems
The Saab 9-7x, a midsize luxury SUV, shares its platform with the Chevrolet TrailBlazer, GMC Envoy, and Isuzu Ascender. Despite its robust underpinnings, the Saab 9-7x has been known to suffer from certain issues that are common among its owners.
- Sporadic Operation of All Wheel Drive System: This issue is caused by friction plate failure in the transfer case and differential. This is a common problem on this model, and the only way to check for it is to sample the oil in the transfer case and differential to see if any friction material is present. If friction material is found, the transfer case and differential will need to be repaired or replaced.
- Tailgate Malfunctions Opening or Closing: The tailgate malfunctions can be caused by a variety of issues, including faulty sensors, wiring problems, or mechanical failure. Depending on the cause, the tailgate may need to be repaired or replaced.
- Air Compressor Runs Continuously: This problem is often caused by a faulty air suspension system. The shocks/struts and the air suspension system will need to be checked for any leaks or blown components and replacement done as required. If nothing is wrong there, a compatible scan tool will need to be used to diagnose the automatic electric suspension system which is likely not operating properly.
- Sudden Low Beam Headlight Failure: This issue is caused by a defective headlamp driver module which is responsible for distributing power to the lights. The headlamp driver module will need to be replaced to fix this problem.
- Leaks in Both Air Bags and Fuel: This is a serious issue that can affect the safety and reliability of the vehicle. If leaks are found in the air bags or fuel system, they will need to be repaired or replaced as soon as possible.
- Faulty Engine Components: Some owners have reported issues with the engine, including leaks and other mechanical problems. These issues can be caused by a variety of factors, including wear and tear, manufacturing defects, or improper maintenance.
- Electrical Issues: Electrical problems, such as faulty sensors or wiring issues, can also affect the Saab 9-7x. These issues can be caused by wear and tear, manufacturing defects, or improper maintenance.
- Interior Quality Issues: Some owners have reported issues with the interior quality of the Saab 9-7x, including cheap materials and poor fit and finish. These issues can affect the overall durability and longevity of the vehicle.
- Fuel System Issues: Some owners have reported issues with the fuel system, including leaks and other mechanical problems. These issues can be caused by a variety of factors, including wear and tear, manufacturing defects, or improper maintenance.
- Exterior Quality Issues: Some owners have reported issues with the exterior quality of the Saab 9-7x, including paint problems and poor fit and finish. These issues can affect the overall durability and longevity of the vehicle.
- Running Issues: Some owners have reported issues with the running of the Saab 9-7x, including rough idling, stalling, and other mechanical problems. These issues can be caused by a variety of factors, including wear and tear, manufacturing defects, or improper maintenance.
In conclusion, the Saab 9-7x is a capable and luxurious SUV, but like any vehicle, it can suffer from certain issues that are common among its owners. These issues can range from minor inconveniences to major safety concerns, and they can be caused by a variety of factors, including wear and tear, manufacturing defects, or improper maintenance. If you own a Saab 9-7x, it's important to be aware of these common problems and to address them promptly to ensure the safety and reliability of your vehicle.

IT WAS REPLACED. THE REPLACEMENT MODULE STARTED ON FIRE. THE LOCAL DEALER BLAMED 'RAIN WATER GETTING IN IT.' I ORDERED A BRAND NEW DDM THAT HAS NEVER SEEN THE ELEMENTS OR BEEN INSTALLED IN A CAR ' AND IT HAS THE SAME CORROSION THAT CAUSED MY FIRE! SEE PIC. TO ADD INSULT TO INJURY THE LOCAL GMC AND CHEVY DEALERS BOTH SAY 'OH THAT'S A SAAB, WE CAN'T PROGRAM THAT.' THE NEAREST DEALER WILLING TO DO THIS WORK IS ZIMBRICK IN MADISON WISCONSIN. IT'S 150 MILES AWAY. THEY'RE STATING THEY CAN'T DO THE WORK A SECOND TIME UNDER THE CALL. THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH MY WINDOW SWITCH BEFORE THEY DID THE RECALL WORK, AND SUPPOSEDLY THE 'SUPERIOR' FIXED PART IN FACT CAUGHT ON FIRE. IF THIS WAS A TRAILBLAZER OR AN ENVOY THEY'D DO THE WORK BUT BECAUSE IT'S A SAAB THEY'RE BEING STUPID AND SAYING THEY CAN'T WORK ON SAAB'S. IT'S THE SAME THING. BOTTOM LINE: THE RECALL WORK DOES NOT MITIGATE THE FIRE HAZARD AND BRAND NEW REPLACEMENT MODULES HAVE THE SAME CORROSION THAT GM BLAMES ON 'WATER GETTING INTO THE DDM.' I CHALLENGE THAT NARRATIVE AND BELIEVE ALL THESE VEHICLES MAY STILL BE A FIRE HAZARD

I'm so glad to hear that you're enjoying your 9-7! It sounds like you got a great deal on it, and it's been a reliable vehicle for you and your family. It's great to hear that it's been able to handle all of your needs, from hauling your kids and their sports equipment to getting good gas mileage in the city and on the highway. Thanks for sharing your positive experience with us!

Vehicle year: 2007
When I first bought my truck, I had to replace all of the brakes and rotors due to rust from driving in the north with all the salt they put out for the snow. However, other than those minor maintenance issues, it has been a great vehicle. People are always impressed by the way it looks and say they never knew Saab made an SUV. I like that it is a unique model and I never see anyone else driving my truck. Although I would not recommend it to anyone because of the horrible gas mileage, they can probably find something that looks just as good but with better gas mileage.

Congratulations on your new addition to the family! I completely understand the need for a bigger car and it sounds like you made a great choice with the SUV. Despite concerns about gas prices, it seems like this car has exceeded your expectations with its V-6 engine and zippy acceleration. Plus, it's great to hear that it has all the features you were looking for and that it's easy for you and your baby to get in and out of. The cargo space is definitely a plus, although it would be nice to have a few more cubbies for smaller items. Overall, it sounds like you're really happy with your new ride!

I really admire this SUV. I needed a reliable vehicle for work as I demonstrate medical equipment and have to carry around equipment that weighs 300 pounds and is about the size of a small dresser. After researching, I was impressed with the SAAB. I had previously driven a Trailblazer for 100k miles, but there is no comparison. I appreciate the sophisticated looks and the fact that when it needs repairs, I can take advantage of lower priced GM parts. This is the main reason I chose not to buy the Cayenne. I have driven 40,000 miles so far and have not experienced any issues. The only thing that wore prematurely were the brake rotors at 22,000 miles, but it only cost a few hundred bucks to fix, which was not bad at all.

The car not only looks great, but it also performs great. It's a fantastic ride, with excellent handling and a tight turning radius. I absolutely love it!

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my SAAB 9.7x. I've had it for just over 2 years now and it's been quite the adventure. Before my 9.7x, I owned a 1998 Lexus ES and a 2002 Audi A6. I travel quite a bit, about three months out of the year, averaging about 300 additional highway miles per week. While I've had a few repairs to date, including over $4,000 for wheel suspension and other minor problems, I'm still enjoying my SAAB. Last week, the fan for heat stopped blowing and cost me $340 (I live in Iowa), and I recently had a fuel connector issue that was quoted at $700+ (fuel shows on

The best thing about my Saab is the extra 100,000 mile warranty I purchased. Despite the car having 48,000 miles on it, I have been able to avoid spending around 5k thanks to this warranty. Although I have had to replace the accelerator, two starters, two windshield wiper pumps, and even the computer, I am still grateful for the warranty. Does anyone happen to be interested in buying a car?

I have owned three SAABs in the past and have always loved them. However, my recent purchase of the 9-7X has been a major disappointment. I had hoped that this car would provide enough space for the tall men in my life to travel comfortably, and while the space is great and comfy, the car has had multiple major issues. Additionally, it is sluggish when going uphill and has poor gas mileage. Despite these issues, the DVD and multi-CD players are sweet, and the on-board air-compressor is a great asset. Unfortunately, the car has spent more time in the dealership garage than on the road with me, and has cost me a lot of time and money. I am looking forward to trading it in soon!

I took a look at the GMC Envoy Denali and SLT with the 4.2 engine. I noticed a significant difference between the Denali and the SLT with the 4.2 engine. The Saab 9-7x, on the other hand, falls right in between in terms of comfort and ride. With the 9-7x, you get a lot more luxury than with the Envoy SLT. The 9-7x's ride and handling, thanks to its lower profile and larger wheels, makes a dramatic difference. Unless you're planning to go off-road, I would recommend choosing the 9-7x over its GM siblings. However, it's worth noting that the quality and fit and finish are still GM, so it's not quite on par with a Lexus.

My overall impression is that Saab tried to make a small/mid sized SUV feel like a car. I hope the remaining days of my 27 month lease go by quickly.
