The Nissan GT-R (Gran Turismo–Racing; model code: R35; Japanese: 日産・GT-R; Nissan GT-R) is a car built by Japanese marque Nissan since 2007. It has a 2+2 seating layout and is considered both a sports car and a grand tourer. The engine is front-mid mounted and drives all four wheels. It succeeds the Nissan Skyline GT-R, a faster variant of the Nissan Skyline. Although this model was the sixth-generation to bear the GT-R name, it is no longer part of the Skyline line-up. The car is built on the PM platform, derived from the FM platform used in the Skyline and Nissan Z models. Production is conducted in a shared production line at Nissan's Tochigi plant in Japan.

As per Nissan's intention of creating a world beating sports car, the GT-R brand was revived as part of the Nissan Revival Plan. Overall development began in 2000, following seven years of development and testing, including the introduction of two concept models in 2001 and 2005. The production version of the GT-R was unveiled at the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show. The GT-R is a brand-new car built on the PM platform, and featured innovative concepts and technologies, such as advanced aerodynamics, the VR38DETT engine, an active suspension system and the ATTESA E-TS Pro all-wheel-drive system, making it the first ever rear mounted independent transaxle all-wheel-drive vehicle. It is one of the first production cars to feature launch control and a dual-clutch transmission as well. The overall body is made out of steel, aluminium and carbon-fibre. In 2009 it set a record for the fastest accelerating 4-seater production car.

The GT-R is offered worldwide, unlike its predecessors which were sold in a limited number of markets. It received various facelifts and updates to be up to date with the competition, and several special editions were also offered during its prolonged production span. The car is used in motorsports, notably winning championships in the FIA GT1 World Championship, Super GT and in various GT3 racing series, including the GT World Challenge. It is well received among enthusiasts and automotive publications as well, British motor magazine Top Gear named it as "one of the most incredible cars of any kind ever built", due its exceptional performance and practicality given at an affordable price. Despite being one of the fastest production cars, it has won numerous notable accolades such as the World Performance Car of The Year among many others.

Sales in the Australian market were ceased due to new side impact regulations. In the European market, including the United Kingdom were similarly suspended, due to newly implemented noise regulations. Currently, the car is primarily available only in the North America, Japan, and some markets.

Common 2013 Nissan Gt-r problems

Based on complaints from owners of the Nissan GT-R 2013, several common problems have been reported:

  • Under Power and Rattling Noise: Owners have reported a problem with the 2015 Nissan GT-R where it sounds underpowered with constant rattling. This issue can affect the performance and driving experience of the vehicle.
  • Brake Wear: The Nissan GT-R is known for wearing out brake pads and discs quickly, particularly if the car is used on a track. Owners have experienced increased braking distances, noise when applying brakes, and cracks around the edges of drilled holes in the brake discs, indicating reduced effectiveness.
  • Starting and Idling Issues: Some Nissan GT-Rs have exhibited problems with starting, rough idling, and excessive vibration, often attributed to the AAC valve. Cleaning or replacing this valve can help resolve these issues.
  • Engine Bearing Problems: Another common problem reported by Nissan GT-R owners is engine bearing issues, leading to a bell housing rattle sound. This issue is often due to a loose bearing attached to the flywheel shaft, causing vibrations and potential wear over time.
  • Headlight Condensation: Condensation within the headlights has been noted as a problem with the Nissan GT-R. This issue is caused by design flaws in the headlamp's vents and seals, leading to water droplets inside the unit. Unfortunately, the only solution is to purchase a replacement part.
  • ABS Pump Failures: Older Nissan GT-Rs have experienced ABS pump failures, which are becoming increasingly common. Replacement parts are available, and installation takes around two hours to complete.
  • Starting Faults: Starting faults have been reported by many Nissan GT-R owners, leading to recovery into service centers. These faults can sometimes be traced back to issues with fobs, battery synchronization, or the original Tracker system, requiring reprogramming or disabling.

These common problems with the Nissan GT-R 2013 highlight various issues that owners have faced, ranging from transmission and brake wear to starting and idling issues, emphasizing the importance of regular maintenance and prompt attention to any emerging problems.

Is the Nissan GT-R a reliable car?

For a sports car, it will last a decent time on the road before garnering expensive repairs. However, according to motorbiscuit.com, you can't work the vehicle very hard, or it might not last longer than 150,000 miles before it needs extensive fixes. The Nissan GT-R works pretty well for a sports car.

Which year GT-R has transmission issues?

The 2010 Nissan GT-R has fewer complaints than the 2009 version but still has several problem areas, including the transmission. CarComplaints says the 2010 GT-R has 21 complaints, and its main issues are faulty tire valves, fuel/propulsion system, and transmission.

What is the disadvantage of GT-R?

What are the downsides to owning a Nissan GT-R? The GTR itself, when first bought Brand New from the Nissan Dealership, is the crazy high price. The GTR Premium, which is the cheapest & basic of all GTR models have an average starting MSRP of $120,000. That's way too high for a Nissan.

Is Nissan GT-R good for daily?

The technology allows you to drive on snowy, icy roads, muddy fields, or road conditions that a conventional two-wheel drive vehicle cannot, making the GT-R not just a great daily driver but also a dependable one.

Negative 2013 Nissan Gt-r car reviews

I've had this for 4 months now and absolutely love it! However, before you think about purchasing, it's important to figure out what you care about. Let me start with the areas that could use some improvement. The ride can be quite harsh, even with the comfort setting on. Living in the Midwest, where the roads can be quite rough, I think Nissan should consider adding a true comfort setting. Additionally, the sound deadening could be improved as I can hear some road noise, gravel, rocks, exhaust, and transmission noises. It's also worth noting that there is no backup camera or parking sensors, and the car lacks memory and cooled seats. For an $85k car, these features should be included. Despite these areas for improvement, I still think this car is fantastic and offers a great driving experience. Thanks for considering my thoughts!

Positive 2013 Nissan Gt-r car reviews

  1. Giles Crist 2025-05-21

I researched this car for over a year, comparing it to the BMW M3, Mercedes C63 AMG, Audi RS4, and Corvette Z06. Coming from a WRX STi, I was blown away by how well this car performs. Despite what I had heard about it having a hard ride and being noisy, I found that it handles beautifully and turns immediately when you want it to. The power is indescribable and the sound of the car, in my opinion, is just right (V8s are overrated). The interior is quality crafted and it has all the modern tech you could need or want. However, it's important to note that the rear seats are not very usable. On the plus side, it does better MPG than my STi did and the sound system is great. Be prepared for the attention you will receive because these cars are so rare. Overall, I think it's the best car out there!

If you're thinking about buying a Nissan GTR, I highly recommend it! This car has it all - top-notch performance, advanced suspension and safety features, and cutting-edge technology - all for a great value. While I'm not one to seek attention, I have to admit that this car has a certain rock star quality that always turns heads. Everywhere I go, people are amazed by its sleek design and impressive performance. I've owned mine for six months now and I couldn't be happier. It's an absolute joy to drive and handles beautifully on the track, whether it's a 1/4 mile or autocross. I test drove several other cars, including the M3, M5, AMG SL63, and Z06, but the GTR was the clear winner. It's simply the best car I've ever owned!

  3. Buster Bosco 2025-05-14

I've had my gtr for about a month now and I absolutely love it! I've owned many cars in the past, including an Audi rs4, e55, m3, and Corvette, but I have to say that this car surpasses them all in terms of looks and build quality. The handling and power that this car delivers in every gear is simply amazing. The only downside is that it can be a bit of a rough ride, but I suppose that's to be expected from a supercar that handles as well as this one does. If you don't like attention, then this car may not be for you. Everywhere I go, whether it's at gas stations or stoplights, people ask me how I like the car and compliment me on what a sweet ride it is. I personally bought the White version. I live in New Jersey where the roads are terrible and full of potholes, so I have to be careful. However, if you're lucky enough to live in Florida or California, you'll really be able to enjoy this car on the great roads there.

  4. Wendell Schuster 2025-05-01

I only have 117 miles on the car so far, but I must say it has been quite an experience. I purchased the car as a daily driver in Wisconsin and I am pleased to report that the ride is not harsh at all. The gear box is a manual and the shifts feel just like a good manual transmission should. Although there is a little too much road noise for my personal taste, overall I am enjoying the car.

  5. Kristofer Altenwerth 2025-04-06

I've owned it for a month so far and I must say, the performance is truly astonishing. The car is very easy to drive and the torque range is great. Even at 70mph, you can mash the throttle and still get shoved in your seat. The lateral movement is like something out of a video game, and I've often wondered how the car took the turn at THAT speed and I'm still alive. I can't seem to find its breaking limit! The comfort setting is nice, but it still feels like a sports car. I had an M6 before this, and this car blows it out of the water by far. Best of all, it's 5k less! :)
