Common 2011 Nissan Frontier problems
The Nissan Frontier 2011 has been reported to have several common problems based on complaints from owners. Here are some of the most frequently mentioned issues:
- Lack of Legroom: Some owners of the Nissan Frontier 2011 have reported that the vehicle is too small, with not enough legroom for the front and back seats. This can make the vehicle feel cramped and uncomfortable, especially on long trips.
- Uncomfortable Seats: Several owners have reported that the seats in the Nissan Frontier 2011 are uncomfortable, which can make long trips less enjoyable. This issue can be resolved by replacing the seats or adding seat cushions for extra comfort.
- Lack of Special Features: Some owners have reported that the Nissan Frontier 2011 is a basic vehicle with few special features. This can make the vehicle feel outdated compared to other vehicles in its class.
- Transmission Problems: While transmission problems are more common in earlier models of the Nissan Frontier, some owners of the 2011 model have reported issues with the transmission. These issues can include radiator leaks that cause transmission failure, coolant leaks that ruin the transmission, and cracking radiators that leak fluid into the transmission.
It is important to note that these issues are based on complaints from owners and may not affect all Nissan Frontier 2011 vehicles. If you are considering purchasing a Nissan Frontier 2011, it is recommended that you have the vehicle inspected by a qualified mechanic to ensure that it is in good working condition.
How many miles will a 2011 Nissan Frontier last?
between 200,000 to 300,000 miles
Nissan vehicles are generally known for their reliability and longevity. On average, a well-maintained Nissan can last between 200,000 to 300,000 miles. This means if you drive around 15,000 miles per year, which is the average for most drivers, you can expect your Nissan to last between 13 to 20 years.
What year was a bad year for a Nissan Frontier?
Nissan Frontiers with automatic transmissions manufactured between 2005 and 2008 have a defective radiator design. The fluid lines for the truck's transmission pass through the radiator. Any leaks or problems with the radiator can instantly destroy both the radiator and the transmission on these Frontier models.

AIR BAGS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-01-25
- Crash: 1
- VIN: 1N6AD0EV9BC
- Components: AIR BAGS
- Summary: On January 25, 2024 my son was driving this truck and hit a dog on the highway. His driver side airbag deployed, the driver side seatbelt would not retract, and there was some minor body damage. The engine of the vehicle is fine and completely operational. Since then, we have been waiting for repairs to be made. Per USAA, repairs will be approx $5000 or less. The vehicle is worth over $12,000 so they decided to repair it. The problem is that part number 98820-ZP78A (air bag control module) is no longer being manufactured by Nissan. All other parts, including the *actual* air bag can still be purchased from Nissan, but they are not making the sensor we need to fix this vehicle. We are not the only ones who cannot obtain this part.

WHEELS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2018-11-14
- VIN: 1N6BD0CT4BC
- Components: WHEELS
- Summary: A DESIGN DEFECT IN THE STEEL WHEELS ALLOWS WATER TO PUDDLE IN A CHANNEL IN THE WHEEL -- BECAUSE THERE IS INADEQUATE DRAINAGE BEHIND A SHOULDER ON THE RIM. FURTHERMORE THE COATING OF THE STEEL RIM IS INADEQUATE TO PREVENT RUSTING OF THE RIM. THUS, AFTER AS LITTLE AS 57,500 MILES, THE PUDDLING IN THIS UNDRAINED CHANNEL LEADS TO SEVERE CORROSION, WITH FOLLOWING ADVERSE RESULTS. (1) THE CORROSION INVADES THE HOLE FOR THE TPMS WHICH IS LOCATED RIGHT IN THE CHANNEL -- CAUSING LOSS OF AIR PRESSURE AROUND THE BASE OF THE TPMS, THAT CANNOT BE EASILY REMEDIED. (2) THE EXTENT AND SEVERITY OF THE CORROSION AT SUCH LOW MILEAGE STRONGLY PREDICTS EVENTUAL CATASTROPHIC WHEEL FAILURE DURING THE NORMAL LIFETIME OF THE VEHICLE.

Awesome truck! I do wish I had purchased the PRO-4X instead, but overall this is the best pickup truck I've owned. It's practically bulletproof and I've put it through the wringer. It handles great in snow and mud, and is very stable. At times, it almost drives like a car. I haven't had any problems with it in the last 5 years, just regular maintenance. In my opinion, a Nissan truck is definitely a better buy. I'm glad I didn't choose the other brand that starts with a T and ends with an A!

We purchased our Frontier during the recession when dealer inventories were sparse. We needed to replace an industrial model S-10 and this truck came loaded with options. In the 9 years since, it has only required its recommended maintenance and a front brake repair. Everything still works perfectly. Although it was very competitively priced as a new truck, our primary issue with it is its unwieldy handling in town. However, on other roads it performs well and has been our go-to car for long trips since we bought it. Until recently, it consistently averaged nearly 20 mpg. We have even used it for heavy hauling on occasion without any struggling or deterioration in its handling.
-
Excellent truck! I have never had any problems with it, just regular maintenance. It is the best 4x4 truck I have ever owned. Everything works just like it did when it was brand new, even after 95000 miles. I highly recommend it - 5 stars!
-
Only have it a few weeks, but I'm really enjoying it so far.
-
You paid $11,300 for a truck that has been well-maintained and has leather in unbelievable shape, even after 140,000 miles. The engine and transmission run strong, and the frame is spotless. The SL with roof rack and side steps is the only way to go, as it gives the truck a sleek look. On dry pavement, it performs fine, but it is less competent in snow compared to your old 2001 Tacoma. The ride is a bit more stiff and bumpy, but it is also a lot cheaper to buy than the Tacoma. Although a 6-speed auto transmission would help improve MPG's, the Frontier is still a solid choice for a reliable mid-size truck.

The V6 engine is capable, but it may be slow to start. However, once the revs are up, it performs well. The 4x4 is also capable in 4-6 inches of snow. While the seats and interior may feel a little flimsy, my wife, our 13-year-old, and 9-year-old all fit comfortably. Unfortunately, some features such as Cruise and overhead drivers light are not available on this model. On the bright side, the MPG is decent, averaging 15 mph under varying conditions. Overall, I am happy with my purchase, but there are some areas of concern, especially related to how the interior will hold up. I plan to return for a 6-month evaluation.

Hello! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my new 2010 Nissan Frontier Pro 4X4 that I purchased in July. I noticed that when stopped on a hill, the vehicle rolls backwards while in drive and forward while in reverse. However, I recently discovered that there is a feature called 'Hill Start Assist' that prevents the vehicle from rolling back for two seconds after releasing the brake. Unfortunately, after two seconds, the vehicle rolls back as if it's in neutral. Despite this, I still appreciate the feature. When I reported the issue to the dealership, they suggested that I 'two pedal it' when on a hill. Have you experienced anything similar?
Doug Stiedemann 2024-04-29
I got it with the utility package. This means it has some bells and whistles. I compared it to the Tacoma and, to me, the Nissan rode better. The cost of Toyota versus Nissan made it an easy choice. The gas mileage is 16 city and 19 combined.

I have owned three Nissans, including this truck, and have had great experiences with the brand. However, this Frontier has been a bit of a challenge. Despite routine maintenance, I have had to replace several parts, including the harness and cable to the driver side downstream O2 sensor, the O2 sensor itself, and the passenger-side camshaft sensor. These repairs have been costly, but I have been fortunate to find good mechanics to do the work. Recently, I discovered oil on one of the spark plugs and in the well, which will require replacement of the rocker arm/valve cover at an estimated cost of $600. While the truck still meets my needs and rides well, it has become quite expensive to own, with a budget of at least $0.10 per mile depending on mileage.
