Common 2007 Nissan Frontier problems

The Nissan Frontier, particularly the 2005 to 2007 models, has been associated with several significant problems, primarily related to the transmission. These issues stem from problems with the seals in the radiator, leading to cross-contamination between the oil and coolant. This contamination can cause both the engine and radiator to fail, requiring costly replacements.

The 2005 Nissan Frontier, in particular, is considered one of the worst model years due to these transmission failures. The radiator's seals were prone to leaking, allowing coolant to mix with the transmission fluid. This mixture would cause the transmission to fail, necessitating an engine and radiator replacement.

The 2006 Nissan Frontier also faced transmission-related problems, with the radiator's crack leading to leaked fluid that contaminated the transmission. This issue resulted in an average repair cost of $4,100 and affected vehicles with an average mileage of 117,000 miles.

In 2007, the Nissan Frontier continued to experience transmission issues, with coolant leaking into and ruining the transmission. The average repair cost for this problem was $3,600, with affected vehicles having an average mileage of 110,000 miles.

Besides transmission problems, the 2007 Nissan Frontier also had issues with fuel systems. Drivers reported inaccurate fuel gauge readings, with failures typically occurring under 100,000 miles. Additionally, some drivers experienced problems with tire pressure monitors giving inaccurate readings.

Despite these problems, the 2007 Nissan Frontier still offers several positive aspects, including a comfortable cabin, slightly better fuel economy compared to competitors, and good crash test scores. However, potential buyers should be aware of the significant mechanical issues associated with the 2005 to 2007 models and consider other, more reliable options within the same class.

Is Nissan Frontier 2007 a good truck?

With smart features, abundant power and a rugged disposition, the V6-equipped Nissan Frontier ranks at the top of its class. Still, if you're shopping for a small truck, you'd be remiss not to try the Frontier's chief rival, the Toyota Tacoma.

How many miles do 2007 Nissan Frontiers last?

How Long Will the 2007 Nissan Frontier Last? Nissans are usually built to last, and the Frontier should get you a minimum of 200,000 miles before your first expensive repair. With excellent care, 250,000 miles isn't unrealistic. Just make sure to shop around and find one in good condition.

What year was a bad year for a Nissan Frontier?

Nissan Frontiers with automatic transmissions manufactured between 2005 and 2008 have a defective radiator design. The fluid lines for the truck's transmission pass through the radiator. Any leaks or problems with the radiator can instantly destroy both the radiator and the transmission on these Frontier models.

Negative 2007 Nissan Frontier car reviews

The Frontier King Cab is a decent truck, but it does have some flaws that are worth noting. If you plan on having passengers in the back, I would recommend going with the Crew Cab instead. While the interior may look a bit cheap, it's important to remember that this is a truck. One minor issue I've noticed is that the clock radio can be difficult to read in bright sunlight. Additionally, I have heard some noise coming from under the dashboard and when spinning the tires, but it's not a major concern. The truck's wide turn radius can be a bit of a hassle, but overall it's a nice vehicle. The fuel mileage could be better for a 6 cylinder engine, and my brakes tend to squeak quite a bit.

  2. Harold Stamm 2024-10-09

Although the drive train is great, there have been some issues with the build quality and interior rattles. Additionally, there have been some small issues with the gas gauge. Unfortunately, the dealer service has not met my expectations. Despite trying multiple dealers, I have not received the level of service I have come to expect from Nissan. As a long-time Nissan customer, I am disappointed with the current state of service. While I appreciate the improved gas mileage in the city, I do miss my F150.

  3. Douglas Harber 2024-06-20

I researched several brands before purchasing the Frontier and found it to be the best value for the money. The fit and finish were tight with no apparent problems. However, I did notice that the interior entry may be difficult for tall or large frame people. On the other hand, the seating is comfortable on short and long trips. Although the interior is spartan with lots of vinyl, it still gets the job done. There was only one recall for the crash sensor in front due to corrosion. The rear box is functional with the spray-on bed liner, but the lock-down hooks and bed extender were a complete loss for our usage. The tires make a lot of road noise which permeates through the cabin area, but it is manageable. Unfortunately, the brakes have been a major disappointment on this vehicle, both in stopping and replacement (22000), which is much too premature for a 25k truck.

  4. Dedric Bogisich 2024-05-10

The Frontier crew cab has a really nice road feel - it's stable and solid, and the ride is comfortable. There are also great space utilization options behind the driver's seat. With a few improvements and options, I believe it could fit the needs of many more customers than it currently attracts. It could be the perfect choice for those of us looking for an all-around vehicle with versatility, and who don't need a truck for towing or off-roading.

  5. Jovani Osinski 2024-05-05

I have a Nissan Frontier that I bought brand new. Although I have experienced some issues such as problems with the rad, ball joints, tie rod ends, starter, and alternator, I have driven it for 165000 km. Currently, I need a new transmission valve body which can be expensive.

Positive 2007 Nissan Frontier car reviews

  1. Easton Yost 2025-01-07

I really like the drive train and suspension on this truck - it feels like driving a sports car and is so much fun to run the 2.5L 4 banger through the gears. However, I'm having trouble finding a comfortable position for the driver's seat. The door panel is taking up too much leg space, the front lip of the seat is digging into my thighs, and the seat bottom/back is just too hard. I'm now considering options such as a custom seat, upgrading seats from a wrecked SE/LE, or possibly reupholstering. Unfortunately, the uncomfortable seats are starting to ruin my experience with an otherwise wonderful truck.

  2. Garnett Torp 2024-11-27

So far, I've been really happy with my '07 Frontier. It has a quiet ride, zippy performance, and a fairly comfortable driving position. I have had only one recurring problem, which is a malfunctioning tire pressure sensor. However, it was finally fixed after the third visit to the dealer. I owned a comparable Tacoma before this truck, but I like my Nissan far better.

  3. Ari Bradtke 2024-10-15

This is a very quiet truck, well made, with excellent power. It rides great and tows a 4000lb travel trailer very well. I highly recommend it. While there are a few minor issues, such as a poor turning radius and weird radio controls, overall it's a great choice. Additionally, be aware that the edge of the rear tail light is not shielded from breakage if the tailgate is down - I learned this the hard way when I broke it while transporting long planks. Finally, keep in mind that installing aftermarket wheels and tires without tire pressure sensors will cause you to lose your traction control.

  4. Jamaal Frami 2024-09-12

I love my truck! I've had it for two years now and it's been my trusty companion for everything from commuting to mountain biking and skiing. It's got plenty of power and handles great both on and off road. Plus, it's amazing on snow and ice! The crew cab long bed is perfect for me - I can fit a whole crew of 4, 2 dogs, and 4 mountain bikes and still travel in comfort to far away destinations. I test drove all the other crew cab trucks, but the Frontier was the clear winner for me. I'm so happy with my choice!

  5. Shayne Bruen 2024-09-02

Congratulations on your new purchase! I've had my 2007 Frontier Nismo for a month now (bought used) and I'm really enjoying it. So far, I've been getting a steady 18mpg in the city, but I haven't had a chance to take it on a highway trip yet. The Nismo package does make for a bit of a rougher ride compared to my neighbor's 2006 Frontier XE, but I'm happy to have the towing capacity for my boat and camper. The electronic locking rear differential has also been a lifesaver when pulling my boat out of the water at the boat launch. Overall, I would definitely give this truck a well-deserved A rating. Let me know if you have any questions or if there's anything else I can help with!
