2019 Nissan Armada problems
The Nissan Armada (retrospectively referred to unofficially as the Nissan Pathfinder Armada) is a full-size SUV manufactured by Nissan for the North American market. From 2003 to 2015, the first-generation Armada was assembled in Canton, Mississippi based on the Nissan Titan. From mid-2016 onwards, the second-generation Armada has been built in Yukuhashi, Kyushu, Japan and shares the same platform as the Nissan Patrol, with American-specific modifications, and went on sale in late mid-2016 as a 2017 model. A luxury version of the Armada has been sold as the Infiniti QX80 (originally QX56).
First generation (TA60; 2004)
The 2004 model Pathfinder Armada was unveiled on April 17, 2003, at the New York International Auto Show. Developed under Carlos Ghosn's NRP (Nissan Revival Plan), development was done in September 1999 to 2003 under lead designers Shiro Nakamura and Diane Allen and chief engineers Yuzo Sakita and Larry Dominique. In January 2001, a final exterior design by Giovanny Arroba had been approved by Sakita, Allen, Nakamura, and Nissan executive management, with the final design freeze being completed in July 2001. It is assigned the platform code TA60.
Prototypes based on the Y61 Patrol were hand-assembled as mules from 2001, with the first TA60-specific prototypes being completed and sent to testing in early 2002. Design patents were filed in 2003, with production starting on August 14, 2003, and going on sale on October 1, 2003.
The Armada had a 5.6 L VK56DE V8 engine that made 305 hp (227 kW) and 385 lb⋅ft (522 N⋅m) of torque. This was mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission, and the Armada had a choice of either rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. There are some Armadas that are capable of using E85. It has a towing capacity of up to 9,000 lb (4,000 kg).
The rear door handles are installed on the "C" pillar as part of a Nissan design tradition that started with the 1986 Nissan Pathfinder. When the four-door Pathfinder was introduced, Nissan chose to conceal the door handles as a part of the "C" pillar trim to visually make it appear like a two-door truck with a camper shell, with conventional door handles on the front doors.
The switch to the Armada name occurred in September 2004 for the 2005 model year, where it received new badges without "Pathfinder." The 2005 model year also included a backup camera.

Common 2019 Nissan Armada problems
Based on complaints from owners of the 2019 Nissan Armada, several common problems have been reported:
- Transmission Problems: Some owners have faced challenges with the transmission, specifically with the vehicle not engaging into park properly. This issue can prevent the parking pawl from engaging, making it difficult to secure the vehicle when parked. In some cases, this issue has required the replacement of the entire transmission.
- Electrical and Technology Malfunctions: Complaints have been raised regarding various electrical and technology-related problems. These include issues with the GPS system being outdated, Bluetooth connectivity working intermittently, faults with Nissan Connect services, lack of compatibility with Android Auto, and outdated back seat inputs. These problems can affect the overall driving experience and convenience of using the vehicle.
- Sunroof Concerns: Lawsuits have accused Nissan of using a faulty tempering process for their sunroofs since 2008, leading to potential issues such as sunroof rattles and explosions. This poses a safety risk to occupants in the vehicle and can result in unexpected damages and hazards.
- Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) Malfunctions: Malfunctions in Nissan's AEB system have been reported, causing vehicles to suddenly brake even when there are no obstructions on the road ahead. These sudden stops can create dangerous situations, increasing the risk of rear-end collisions and accidents.
These common problems reported by owners of the 2019 Nissan Armada highlight various safety, functionality, and technology-related issues that have impacted the driving experience and reliability of this vehicle.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-17
- VIN: JN8AY2NC5K9
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: Car intermittent problems with not starting. Believe it has to do with smart alternator not charging cause of short distance driving and not getting full charge so it runs down the battery.
SUSPENSION PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-08-01
- VIN: JN8AY2NC6K9
- Components: SUSPENSION
- Summary: The rear end air suspension stopped working and will not raise the vehicle to the proper height. This caused the vehicle to become unstable in the rear and difficult to fully control the vehicle. With a wet road it becomes much worse as the rear end will lose contact with the road even at a much lower reduced speed. I've noticed several other Armada's with sagging rear ends and I've read several threads online with owners. After experiencing this first hand as a CDL-A driver. This is very dangerous and Nissan doesn't appear to care one bit about this issue with their high end product. Please help us do something about this before someone gets hurt or worse, thank you for your consideration in the matter.
SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-07-16
- Crash: 1

- Summary: What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Brakes and front sensor. Yes How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Collisions Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? No Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Yes Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? Yes’ , front sensor failure light appeared and brakes failed. On two occasions, the brakes have failed when we are in the drive-through, causing us to rear end the vehicle in front of us. We had the car towed to a Nissan dealer. They were unable to re-create the problem as they did not take it through a drive-through or where they would be in close proximity of another car. After bringing it home, we drove it again no issues until we were in a drive through where the brakes failed as we were pushing on them. The light came on saying front sensor failure again we rear ended another vehicle.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-06-13
- VIN: JN8AY2NCXK9
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: In June 2022, my wife and children were stranded at a state forest, with no one around to assist, due to the vehicle not starting. My wife explained the vehicle symptoms and I expected it to be a battery or key fob issue, so I left work, grabbed the spare fob and jumper cables and headed to their location. First I tried to start it with the spare fob but that did not work, so I jumped battery and the vehicle started right up. We took the vehicle to a Nissan dealership to have it looked at, thinking it was an issue with the charging system. After the dealership looked at it, they came to the conclusion that the battery was bad and also the vehicle was pulling too much power from the battery. The battery was replaced under warranty on June 10, 2022. Almost exactly 2 years later, June 13, 2024, the same incident occurred. My wife and children were stranded yet again, at a gas station. This time someone was able to assist, they jumped the battery, it started right up. I immediately contacted the same dealership, and took it there the following morning. This time the battery tested good, but said the vehicle is pulling to much power from the battery causing it to drain. They recommended having the battery saver settings changed in BCM and modify the smart charge system. They also stated that this is becoming a known issue with this vehicle model and has been having several others in with this same issue.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,SERVICE BRAKES,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-11-11
- VIN: JN8AY2NF6K9
- Components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,SERVICE BRAKES,ENGINE
- Summary: This vehicle has less than 24k miles, and just surpassed the warranty period and suddenly with no explanation, it won't start due to a faulty start switch in the brake pedal which must be depressed to start the vehicle or shift into drive. 90% of the time the vehicle will not start. Only after spending 10-20 fidgeting with the break pedal while simultaneously pushing the start button and moving the gear knob will the vehicle start if you are lucky. Then you can spend another 20 minutes trying to get the vehicle to go into gear. The dealer and Nissan refuse to recall this item despite over one million complaints on the issue, and a history or recalls on other models with the same switch. But the dealer is happy to charge over $1500 to replace it. After spending nearly 70,000 on these cars new, few people are willing to throw $1500 at it with so few miles. Now the vehicle has SERIOUS problems. While driving down the road, the car will suddenly and instantly lock the brakes with no warning. This happened twice. Once in the street and one on the highway. In addition, the BCI malfunction and several other lights come on and many of the main funtions of the car just shut down while driving.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-09-08
- VIN: JN8AY2NC6KX
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: I was driving on the Mass Pike (Rte 90) when exiting the highway the vehicle lurched and the engine started racing. Then the vehicle had no acceleration and would not go above 20 mph. I towed it to a mechanic who stated the transmission was shot. Six weeks later the vehicle was fixed and the transmission was replaced for a LOT of money!! There was no warning before the transmission broke.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-08-28
- VIN: JN8AY2NCXK9
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: Almost new battery, it checked out okay; Alternator appears to be providing proper Voltage and Current. Issue is excessive drain and once the temperature drops the Car/Suv will not start and needs a jump start and then on all great. To me issue appears to be battery drain more then expected. We will do further diagnosis on component level and see which one is draining more than expected.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-07-28
- Number Of Injuries: 1
- Crash: 1
- VIN: JN8AY2NC9KX
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: A little over a year ago my car started to display “BCI malfunction”, “Forward collision”, “slick conditions” on the dashboard and would jolt me forward and then not allow me to accelerate. We didn’t know when it would happen because it didn’t happen every time until I got stuck at a stop light due to those lights displaying and jolting me forward and not allowing me to accelerate. I contacted the dealership and they got the car in and fixed what needed to be fixed and it didn’t do it again. Year and a half later it started displaying the same lights on the dashboard, jolting me forward and not letting me accelerate. This time I was parked in my work parking light and there was a light pole about 4 feet in front of my parking spot. I turned my car on, put it into gear it displayed those same images that I stated above, jolted me forwarded directly into the light pole causing my airbags to deploy into my neck. No one else was hurt as it was just myself in the vehicle, with the way it hit the pole I do not believe my airbag should have even went off as it should have been the passenger side airbag that should have deployed if any at all. My insurance has been contacted and is aware of the incident and it is currently at a shop being looked over. I have also contacted the Nissan dealership and they stated there wasn’t a recall on my vehicle and there wasn’t anything they could do for me.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-06-28
- VIN: JN8AY2ND0K9
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: My car shuts off and will not restart. The battery drains if I go for a short drive. I have taken and had it inspected by the dealership I bought it from and the Nissan dealership itself. I was told that it is showing no codes therefore they cannot address the issue. They drained and recharged my battery at the Nissan dealership, and it continues to happen. I have looked online and found many people with the same vehicle have the same issues. As for safety of the car I am not sure it poses a threat to anyone, but me walking home in this heat because my $35,000.00 is not good. My mother who has many respiratory issues cannot be in this heat and when the car did not start she was forced to sit and wait for my husband to leave work for an hour to jump us. Many say to disconnect a wire but I was warned if I do anything, my warranty will be void. The Nissan dealership said because there is not a code for that, they cannot do anything. This happened yesterday and this is the 6th time since I got it.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-06-27
- VIN: JN8AY2NC8K9
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: Battery has been changed several times. First time we were told there was a recall on due to the brake light draining the battery. This was supposedly fixed and we were charged for a new battery. Within a year of new battery we experienced the same thing car not starting due to dead battery, we took it back to dealership and was told the battery they sold us was defective and we needed it to be replaced, battery got replaced (no charge since it was still under warranty). A year after that I’m back here in the dealership due to the same problem vehicle not starting due to a dead battery, now they are saying battery is not defective but they need to investigate further and in order to do that they charging me $160 dollars. Something is clearly defective that continues to drain the battery for no reason. It’s ridiculous having to change batteries every year and having the car not starting and having to jump start it every time you need to be somewhere. I have not have good experiences with nissan I will not purchases another vehicle ever again from them, so people should be aware of all the problems and their failure to address them.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-08-24
- VIN: JN8AY2NC4KX
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: I have had this vehicle for a little over 2 years and within the past 18 months, I have had to replace my battery 4 times. I took my vehicle to a Nissan dealer and was told that it was my bluetooth, my radio, and other non-related things that is draining the battery. I finally took it to a mom and pop mechanic and was told that it was my Anti-theft system that was draining the battery, and if I wanted him to replace it, there was a chance the car would never start again. There is clearly a problem with the Armada's electrical system, and Nissan should definitely address it!
AIR BAGS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-03-24
- VIN: JN8AY2NC2K9
- Components: AIR BAGS
- Summary: The passenger airbag seat sensor is defective. It has disabled the passenger airbag, and will not reactivate even with a passenger in the seat. The cost to repair the sensor is $5670. Just the sensor. The airbag has never deployed. We requested that Nissan cover the repair or at least the part, as the airbag is obviously critical safety equipment, but they have refused.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-03-01
- VIN: JN8AY2ND3K9
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE
- Summary: Multiple times while operating vehicle, vehicle quit running both while idling at a light and while driving down the road at speed. Collision narrowly avoided several times as I tried to steer the car with no power steering or power braking. Unknown if brake lights continued to work. All electrical systems quit, affecting steering, braking and engine power. Engine subsequently restarted, sometimes with difficulty. Dealer unable to diagnose or repair problem. Vehicle is available for inspection. Multiple codes displayed afterwards on code reader. Check engine light stays on. Check engine light reappears after erased by dealer.
ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-11-18
- VIN: JN8AY2ND8K9
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: The contact owns a 2019 Nissan Armada. The contact stated while driving 65 MPH, the vehicle failed to properly accelerate. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact pulled over on the side of the road and turned off and restarted the vehicle and the vehicle operated but failed to exceed 20 MPH. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the transmission was replaced and the engine coolant was flushed and replaced; however, the failure recurred. Additionally, the contact stated that the HVAC system failed to operate as needed. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer and the contact was informed that coolant was leaking into the engine and that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was unknown.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-11-29
- VIN: JN8AY2ND4K9
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: Despite two new batteries, within 10 months, I have been stranded several times when the car would not start. I checked with my local mechanic and the alternator is working correctly, but apparently there is a sensor that only works the alternator when doing non-city driving. I checked with Nissan today and even though this is clearly a defect, they charge $400 to disable the faulty sensor and do not consider it a design flaw
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-11-29
- VIN: JN8AY2ND8K9
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: Have had several issues with the battery draining when nothing is on. Over the 2.5 years since I've owned the vehicle, this has been a constant problem. The vehicle has been to the dealership on several occasions and I was told that a wire from the computer to the electrical system was causing the problem. The dealer also told me they had to call Nissan Headquarters to try to troubleshoot the problem. There are several forums online discussing how everyone knows this is a known problem with the Armada, but nothing is being done. Went to buy a new battery today because it would not start or jumped, but was told the battery was actually good.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-08-11
- VIN: JN8AY2NDXK9
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: Repeatedly drained battery, and won’t start.Nissan dealership Has the worst scheduling system that takes 1 week to get an appointment. Still unknown issue, car turns on, replaced battery worked for one week and then issue appeared again. The Armada drains the battery for no reason. The frontal collision warning comes on while driving even if no car are near and stays on. Car has power but will not start or release the gear to neutral. This has happened on several occasions and then it starts later after a jump. Can’t turn car off or I will get stranded.
2019 Nissan Armada recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 1 recalls for different components of the 2019 Nissan Armada.
- Manufacturer: Nissan North America, Inc.
- Components: BACK OVER PREVENTION: SENSING SYSTEM: CAMERA
- Summary: Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2018-2019 Nissan Altima, Armada, Frontier, Kicks, Leaf, Maxima, Murano, NV, NV200, Pathfinder, Rogue, Rogue Sport, Sentra, Titan, Titan Diesel, Versa Note and Versa Sedan vehicles, as well as Infiniti Q50, Q60, QX30 and QX80 vehicles. Additionally included are 2019 Nissan GT-R and Taxi and Infiniti QX50, QX60, Q70, Q70L vehicles. The back-up camera and display settings can be adjusted such that the rear view image is no longer visible and the system will retain that setting the next time the vehicle is placed in reverse. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 111, "Rear Visibility."
- Consequence: The lack of an image in the back-up camera display increases the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Nissan will notify owners in phases, having dealers update the back-up camera settings software, free of charge. The recall began November 11, 2019 and all affected VINs should be activated. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669 or INFINITI customer service at 1-800-662-6200.

I completely agree with the other posts regarding the starting issues. I had initially swapped the brake switch, but the problem persisted. Fortunately, it was covered under warranty and resolved with a software update (refer to NTB19-099). Since then, I haven't experienced any issues. Although I work from home, I still use my Armada for towing my boat and for family trips. The V8 engine sounds amazing, and the cabin is incredibly quiet compared to any other vehicle I've owned. Additionally, the rear air suspension does an excellent job of leveling out when towing heavy loads, making it feel very stable at highway speeds. Overall, I'm extremely satisfied with my Armada and would definitely purchase another one without hesitation.
-
It’s bigger than our previous Armada. The engine performance is superior and the handling is awesome.
-
I'm so glad to hear that you love this car!
-
Great value compared to Tahoe or Yukon. Just as nice, but much cheaper pre-owned. The engine is very good and the interior is nice, although it may seem a little dated when compared to something like the new Expedition.
-
I love most things about this vehicle and I'm thrilled we bought it. However, the navigation system is somewhat out of date and it is not a GPS system. Additionally, in certain weather conditions, the cruise completely goes offline. When the front sensors get covered, the cruise control is unusable. That is a flaw in the system. Update: After having the Armada for several years and putting a lot of miles on it, I can confidently say that this vehicle is amazing and comfortable. I wouldn't trade the Armada for anything.

I had a really bad experience with my Armada. The self-leveling system stopped working at 47K and cost me $810 to fix. Then, at 52K, the brake sensor failed and the vehicle wouldn't start, which was another $270 and caused me a lot of frustration. The AC also stopped working at 65K and cost me $1200 to repair. At 69K, the self-leveling system failed again, costing me $1100. Now, at 69.7K, the transmission is slipping. I never towed anything more than a 2 place snowmobile trailer, which weighed less than 2000lbs. Unfortunately, none of these issues were covered under warranty, and the certified used warranty was not helpful. I would not recommend buying an Armada. If you're in the market for a full-size SUV, I suggest looking into a Sequoia instead. My last one had close to 200,000 miles on it and I never had any of these issues. Update: On my way home from vacation, I got a BCI malfunction code for the second time in two years. The vehicle stopped working just three miles from home, and it still has less than 70K miles on the odometer. Overall, I had a really tough time with my Armada, and I would recommend considering other options.

If you enjoy driving, the Nissan Armada may not be the best fit for you. However, it is fully capable both on and off road and performs well in both environments. Unfortunately, it has poor fuel economy and ride quality. Despite these drawbacks, if you are looking for a reliable SUV, the Nissan Armada is worth considering. Although, if you are looking for a vehicle designed specifically for the driver, you may want to explore other options. Personally, I am considering trading in for a Ford Expedition at the first opportunity.

I have always wanted a QX56/80 until now. Although I was excited for this car, it has not met my expectations in terms of drive and technology, especially considering the price of the vehicle. While I love the look of this car, inside and out, there are several aspects that I don't love. Firstly, the absence of Apple CarPlay is a letdown. Most Nissans have this feature now, so it's surprising that it's not included in this vehicle. Additionally, there are some minor issues, such as the heated steering wheel not coming on automatically with remote start (although it does heat up nicely), and the instrument panel in the dash being quite boring, requiring you to flip through it to access basic information like gas mileage and temperature. The lighting in the vehicle is also poor, and the storage bins don't light up. The USB and Bluetooth features are cumbersome, and I don't receive texts. The technology in this car is way behind, even though Nissan has it in other cars. However, the most significant issue for me is the drive. While the car is beautiful and comfortable on straight, smooth roads, it feels like a boat on bumpy and winding roads (which is a problem for me as I live in Pittsburgh where the roads are bad). The gas mileage is also quite atrocious (although I knew that going in), and the front sensors are touchy, causing the car to constantly beep at me when it's snowing. Overall, I am disappointed with this car, and I can't wait to get rid of it.

We rented a 2019 Armada SL for an 8-day road trip. It was a comfortable ride with a strong and quiet V8 engine. Although the gas mileage was not great and the tank was small, we were not surprised by this. The additional seating in the back was nice when we didn’t have our luggage with us, but it was not very practical if you needed storage space. The car had many bells and whistles, such as rear and overhead camera views for backing up, which were nice but not necessary. However, these features made driving the car a bit of a hassle as the whole system needed to reset regularly. The front radar unit used for emergency braking and cruise control was broken from the start, but we were able to work around it with the help of the owner's manual. There were some other minor issues, such as a warning to check the back seat that would occasionally honk the horn unnecessarily. Overall, we enjoyed our trip in the Armada SL despite these minor inconveniences. There were some other warnings that I turned off, but they kept reappearing every time I started the car. Overall, the implementation of these features was really poor. In the end, it was a relief to return the Armada. After just one week, I was convinced to stay away from buying one of these. Although the minor annoyances never left us stranded, I wouldn't want to be stuck paying the repair bills for this vehicle. The radar unit alone probably costs $1k, and it would likely take ten trips to the dealer to figure out why the volume knob sometimes stops working. Our rental only had 20k miles on it, so I can only imagine what a mess this Armada will be at 40k.

I experienced three breakdowns within the first 1500 miles, which led to the replacement of the front wiring harness and a compensation of $600, along with an additional 5-year warranty. Despite these efforts, my vehicle recently broke down again, requiring a jumpstart due to a flat battery. The dealer installed a new battery, but after only 6 weeks, the same issue occurred. Although the dealer was unable to diagnose the root cause of the problem, they replaced the battery once again. It is evident that there is a persistent issue that needs to be addressed. I am dissatisfied with this situation. I received a call from Nissan while I was in the shower, and I am currently awaiting a recall.
