Common Nissan 350z problems
The Nissan 350Z is a popular sports car known for its handling and performance. However, like any vehicle, it can have certain issues that owners may encounter. Here are some of the most common problems with the Nissan 350Z based on complaints from owners:
- Faulty fuel damper: Another common issue is a faulty fuel damper, which can cause a ticking noise due to fuel pressure fluctuations.
- Oil consumption: Some Nissan 350Z owners have reported that their engines burn oil more frequently than expected, requiring more frequent top-ups. This issue is not limited to high-mileage vehicles and can affect all 350Z models.
- Sensor failure: If sensors in the Nissan 350Z break, the engine may experience stalling or misfiring, and gasoline or black smoke may be visible from the exhaust.
- Clicking driveshafts: High-mileage Nissan 350Zs may experience clicking noises from the rear axles and driveshafts, caused by metal-on-metal contact due to insufficient or worn-away lubrication.
- Synchro wear: High-mileage 350Zs may also experience synchro wear, which can lead to grinding or crunching sounds during shifting. This issue is more common in manual transmission models and can be addressed by replacing the transmission fluid or, in some cases, the entire transmission.
- Fuel filler hose cracks: Some 2003-2004 Nissan 350Z models have experienced fuel filler hose cracks, which led to a recall. This issue can cause gasoline or black smoke to leak from the exhaust.
- Timing chain guide and tensioner failure: This issue primarily affects 2003-2006 models and can lead to expensive repairs. It is important to keep an eye on the timing chain and tensioner for any signs of wear or failure.
- Broken fuel dampers: This issue affects pre-2007 models and can cause engine stalling, misfiring, and loud ticking, knocking, thumping, or clicking noises while idling. Affected vehicles should have more durable replacements due to a technical service bulletin, but if the original version is still in place, replacement is not expensive or difficult.
In summary, the Nissan 350Z is generally reliable, but high-mileage models may experience certain issues, such as synchro wear, timing chain guide and tensioner failure, and broken fuel dampers. Other problems, like oil consumption, sensor failure, and clicking driveshafts, can affect all 350Z models. It is essential to address these issues promptly to ensure the longevity and performance of the vehicle.

I really enjoyed this car! I owned it for three years and drove 70,000 miles. When I sold it, I only lost $3,000 from the original purchase price. I only had one mechanical issue with this car, where it went into sleeper mode a few times, but it was an easy fix with no out-of-pocket expenses. This car was very fast and handled great - I have no complaints! I would love to own one again. - Gregory J Strzelecki

The comfort, visibility and storage may not be the best, but hey, it's a sports car! And I must say, I got exactly what I expected and I love it. I've had mine for a month now and I still can't get enough of it. It may be a bit challenging to get in and out of, so you need to be in good shape. But once you're in, it's like riding a rocket! It's definitely one of the hottest cars I've ever owned.

Hello! I've owned this car for 13 years and I would give it an A. With regular maintenance, including exterior/interior detailing every 1-2 years, this car has surpassed my expectations. I've added a cold-air K/N intake system and a 'cat-back' Borla exhaust system (which sounds not too aggressive, but nice) for better performance. I've also added Nismo body-kit parts, such as a rear spoiler and side skirts, as well as an after-market hood (Varona) which has stylish vents and a louvre, and a VIS-racing front-bumper cover. All of these exterior additions add a nice sporty look to the car. Oh, and I've had the emblems and wheels painted matte-gold, which goes very well with the dark maroon color of the car. I'm hesitant to sell the car, but I feel like I've had enough time with it. On the negative side, there are a few scratches on the exterior paint, the cup holder is plastic and is difficult to push in (which is why I usually just leave it out), and the map lights need replacement.

This car is fast and fun! If you take off the traction control, you'll get an improved feel and handling. It may slip a bit, but it's enjoyable and maneuverable. The shifting is smooth and the car is great for small-sized people. However, it may be too small for anyone taller than 6' or over a medium frame. I have an '07 and get 16-17 miles to the gallon with the A/C on constantly. I've been able to drive in snow and slush with Blizzaks in Long Island winters on relatively flat roads. I've never had any major mechanical issues when I've owned it - 60k-85k miles. You can even fit a large gym bag or full-sized acoustic guitar in the trunk! I get so many compliments on my car and I don't get stopped for speeding. If you're looking for a roadster, I would recommend getting ventilated seats. Overall, it's a great price for the horsepower, grip, and features. Plus, the Bose sound system is awesome! The subwoofers really rock!

I've had this beautiful pearl black car since October of last year, and every minute behind the wheel is a thrill and a half. I almost feel a bit sad when I have to turn off the engine, because the power, handling, and performance are simply breathtaking. When you get a hold of the 306 ponies, you're gone. It's worth every penny compared to those high-end sports cars. I love the compliments and everything this car has to offer. I even joked about trading my wife for it, that's how much I love it! (Just kidding).

The interior paint/coating on all plastic panels (door, dash, etc) scratches off with normal use to reveal a white plastic. However, this is a known issue that Nissan has chosen not to address. In contrast, I have owned five different cars, all older than the 350 and with more mileage, and have not experienced this issue. Unfortunately, this problem started soon after the warranty expired, 36 months. As a result, I had to have all these panels removed and painted by a body shop. Additionally, the power window motors also stopped working, which is another known problem that Nissan has not solved. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Nissan.

The car can be uncomfortable to sit in for extended periods of time. The center console and door-mounted armrest are located quite low, which can be uncomfortable for your hip bones. You may find yourself having to stretch your arms out to reach the wheel. Additionally, the car can be quite bumpy on the road. However, there are other sporty cars available that offer a more comfortable ride. Have you considered a Ford Mustang GT? It has 300hp, more room, a great interior, and a better working convertible top. We switched to the Mustang and have not looked back since!

What a fun car! It goes fast, looks good and it attracts attention. However, there are a few things to keep in mind. Firstly, the paint quality could be improved as it faded quickly and had a few stains that the dealer couldn't get out. Secondly, the brakes and rotors needed to be replaced at 30k miles, which is a bit sooner than expected. However, despite this, the car is still a joy to drive! Lastly, there were a few minor issues with the electronics, such as the auto transmission stopping shifting after a heavy rain, the auto-up windows going back down rather than staying up, and the airbag sensor going out. Additionally, the tire wear is only fair, so you can expect only 25-30k if you drive the car easy. Overall, this car is a lot of fun to drive and definitely worth considering!

I have had the center dash in my 2005 Nissan 350Z replaced nine times, and the radio has been replaced three times. Currently, I am waiting to replace it for the fourth time. The windshield wipers have never worked correctly, and the brakes have made funny noises since I've had the car. Despite these issues, I am confident in my decision to never purchase a Nissan product again due to the poor customer service I have received. While the car was fun to drive when it worked properly, the recurring issues and lack of support from Nissan have left me with a negative impression.

Well, to be honest, I was hoping for a bit more from all the hype. While the performance of this vehicle is good, it falls short of the American V8s. It's marketed as a sport car, but it feels more like a V6. The driving experience is similar to the Altima. Of course, this is just my personal opinion on the 350Z.
