The Mitsubishi Eclipse is a sport compact car that was produced by Mitsubishi in four generations from 1989 until 2011. A convertible body style was added during the 1996 model year.
The first two generations share the automobile platform and parts with the rebadged Eagle Talon and Plymouth Laser captive imports. They were built during Mitsubishi Motors' close relationship with Chrysler Corporation. Their partnership was known as Diamond-Star Motors (DSM). In Japan, the first two generations were sold at a specific Japanese retail chain called Mitsubishi Car Plaza. The third, 2000–2005 generation shared a redesigned platform with the Chrysler Sebring and Dodge Stratus. In May 2005, the fourth, and final generation Eclipse was introduced, replacing the Chrysler platform used for the third generation with the PS platform.
According to Mitsubishi Motors, the Eclipse was named after an unbeaten 18th-century English racehorse that won 18 races in a row and then retired.
At the end of August 2011, the final Eclipse was manufactured and subsequently auctioned for charity.
In 2017, Mitsubishi resurrected the Eclipse name on a compact crossover vehicle, called the Eclipse Cross.

This car is amazing to own! Although I had a few issues with the convertible top, the warranty covered it. In the three years that I owned it, I never had any mechanical problems. I recently traded it in for an '03 Eclipse GTS, but it broke my heart to let this one go. If you're thinking of buying a '99 Eclipse, just make sure that any modifications were done properly. By the way, if you happen to buy a white Eclipse with a black top in Denver or its suburbs, please tell her I said hi!

When you first get a car, it's easy to fall in love with it. The colors are sharp and the style looks sleek. However, after driving it for a while, you may start to notice some issues. Unfortunately, I experienced some problems with my car recently. The clutch went out at 46K, which cost about $1200 to fix. Additionally, the CD player keeps spitting out my CDs and won't even take new ones. On top of that, the roof has been leaking since I bought it. It's frustrating, but I'm hoping to get these issues resolved soon.

This is definitely a chick magnet. It's perfect for the college guy who likes to drive a fun car that sounds incredible. Even without the turbo, it's still powerful at four years old. I would have liked to see the all-wheel drive stay around for another year, but overall, no complaints here.

After a month, everything is going well. Although I bought it used, it has only experienced a slight leak with the top up. Fortunately, I purchased a 4-year warranty to cover any annoyances like this. The car definitely attracts attention, especially from the ladies down the shore, with its black exterior and black top. I highly recommend it for fun driving, tight turns, great sound system, convenient top device, and stunning exterior appearance. However, it's worth noting that the GS model's overall performance is average at best, but that's to be expected with about 142HP and a tight fit in the backseat. We'll see how it handles in the winter, but for now, I absolutely love it!

This car has been a disappointment since the beginning. It burns about 1-2 quarts of oil between every 3000 mile oil change, which is not acceptable. Despite the dealership's claims that this is normal, it is not a common issue among other car owners. The service has been slow and unproductive, with many excuses. Additionally, the car is built with cheap materials and has had issues with the antenna sticking. The oil problems have even resulted in engine issues. Based on my experience and that of a friend who owns the same vehicle, I would not recommend purchasing this car or any other Mitsubishi model.

The car looks great and is fun to drive on the highway. However, I've had some issues with my top leaking whenever it rains somewhat hard, despite having it fixed three times. Additionally, my driver side window keeps coming loose, leaving a gap between the large window and smaller back window.
