2009 Jeep Commander problems
The Jeep Commander XK and XH (for diesel-powered export version) is a mid-size SUV that was manufactured from 2005 to 2010 by the Jeep division of the American manufacturer Chrysler.
Concept car
Jeep exhibited a concept car named Commander during the 1999 auto show circuit. The concept featured an experimental direct methanol fuel cell that produced electricity to charge a nickel–metal hydride battery pack. Full-time four-wheel drive was by a severe duty electric motor on each axle. The suspension could be raised 4 inches (102 mm) for traversing off-road purposes. The overall styling influenced the development of the third-generation Grand Cherokee that was at that time six years away. The concept car had the same height as production Grand Cherokees, but was about 8 inches (203 mm) wider. This allowed for an interior featuring an extra wide center console in the front and three bucket seats in the second row. The Commander concept had no relation to the production SUV.
Production
The production version of the Jeep Commander (XK and the diesel-powered XH export version) debuted at the 2005 New York Auto Show as a five- or seven-passenger counterpart of the Jeep Liberty. It was developed to target consumers who wanted a three-row SUV, but designed to be only two inches longer than the Jeep Grand Cherokee with its two-rows of seats as well as to be assembled on the same production line.
It shared its unibody construction, independent short/long arm front suspension and its 5-link live rear axle with the Grand Cherokee on which it was based. It featured an upright windshield and squared-off sides. Its stepped roof was disguised by the roof rack; a design similar to the GMC Envoy XL and Chevrolet TrailBlazer EXT. This allowed the second and third-row seats to be mounted higher than the first-row seats.

- Water Leak From Sunroof Drain Tube:
Some owners have reported water leaks from the sunroof drain tube, which can lead to interior damage and discomfort. Addressing this issue promptly is crucial to prevent further damage to the vehicle.
- Delayed Transmission Engagement:
Delayed transmission engagement has been a concern for some 2009 Jeep Commander owners. THERE IS ALSO A CLICKING NOISE SOMETIMES WHEN I UNLOCK THE DOORS EVEN WHILE THE JEEP IS OFF, IT ALSO HAPPENS SOMETIMES WHEN TURNING THE HEAT ON. THIS IS SOMETIMES RESOLVED BY CHANGING THE FAN TO CABIN MODE, OTHER TIMES IT CONTINUES FOR RANDOM LENGTHS OF TIME. I SEE THAT THERE WERE OTHER RECALLS REGARDING THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM ON THIS MODEL & AM WORRIED ABOUT DRIVING IT IN CASE IT TURNS INTO A MORE SERIOUS ISSUE. WHEN LOOKING AT RECALL INFORMATION ON KBB.COM IT SAYS MY VIN IS A PART OF THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM RECALL FOR POWER TRAIN TRANSFER CASE, BUT WHEN I CHECK IT HERE IT SAYS THERE ARE NO INREPAIRED RECALLS. Solid build quality, roomy, no blind spots, great Boston Acoustics stereo, solid as a tank, very fast, drivers seat moves back when key is removed, nav system easy to operate, rear camera, parking sensors, remote start. This vehicle is a great choice with many features for the price!

I hope you're doing well! I wanted to share my experience with my Jeep Army Green 08 Jeep Commander. I've had it for over 8 months now and I'm still just as happy with my purchase as I was when I first got it. I decided to pay cash and opted for the lifetime power Trane and bumper to bumper since I had my last Grand Cherokee for 11 years and thought it would be a good investment. The Boston Acoustic stereo is fantastic and the sunroof, along with the two additional sunroofs in the back seat area, are really cool features that my kids love. The A/C power in the back seat is also really helpful and the heated leather seats are both stylish and comfortable. When we go up the Pocono Mountains, it very smartly shifts for steep inclines providing plenty of power with the 6 cyl. I hope this helps if you're considering a Jeep Commander!

Hey there! I also own a Jeep Commander 5.7 V8 Limited and I've found a cool trick to get cold air without using the air conditioner compressor and still maintain good fuel economy. If you have the dual control with a vent dial and fan speed dial, turn the right dial to auto and adjust the fan speed to your liking. Then, turn the temperature dials all the way down and voila! You'll get cool air without the air conditioner light coming on. I believe the dehumidifier is taking the moisture out of the air and pumping out cold air without using the compressor. Give it a try and let me know how it works for you! Best regards, Dr. Burke.

I had the opportunity to drive this car for a week during my west coast trip. Unfortunately, I found the driving experience to be quite unpleasant. Firstly, the base V6 engine's acceleration was very poor, which made merging onto the crowded California highways a downright scary experience. With only 200 horsepower, the engine felt inadequate for such a big SUV. Secondly, the car's design did not take visibility into account. Even without passengers, there were large blind spots on both sides, making lane changes a harrowing experience. With passengers, it was nearly impossible to check for oncoming cars when attempting to change lanes. Overall, I did not enjoy driving this car.

Since we purchased the car in May 2007, we have unfortunately had to return it to the dealership six times due to the same issue. Water has been leaking into the driver and passenger floorboards, and has now even advanced to leaking into the dashboard. The dealership has been working hard to try and remedy the issue, but unfortunately, it has not been successful. It is now September 2008, and we had another issue with water leaking into the car from the rain over the weekend. The car is back in the shop, and it was in the shop for the exact same thing just last week. It's really unfortunate that this has detracted from our enjoyment of the car.

I purchased a 2008 Commander Limited 4.7 as an 'executive use' car with only 15,000 miles in December 2008. Unfortunately, I experienced some issues with the mygig system and antenna wiring, which required multiple trips to the dealership for repairs. Additionally, I noticed some vibration at speeds over 70 mph, which also required multiple visits to the dealership. Although the issue was not completely resolved, the front seats are comfortable and spacious, and the sound system is excellent. However, I would advise against rolling down the front windows in the rain, as water tends to flood in. Also, the near-vertical front window can make it difficult to see traffic signals. Overall, I hope these experiences can help improve the quality of the vehicle for future buyers.
Corbin Fadel 2024-07-08
The Jeep rides very smoothly, almost like a luxury vehicle. While the front seats are comfortable, the back seats can be uncomfortable on long trips, as they are positioned too high and can cause leg pain. Although I appreciate the theater seats for the view, they are not the most comfortable option. Unfortunately, my brand new Jeep has experienced several issues, including the oil cover falling off, the water pump failing, and the tensioner belt breaking, among other problems. While I have had to take my vehicle back to the dealer multiple times, I do appreciate that it runs perfectly through the snow. Overall, I have some concerns about taking long trips in my Jeep, but I am hopeful that these issues will be resolved soon.

I bought this truck a year ago, but unfortunately, it hasn't met my expectations. When I put car seats in the back, I found it difficult to sit comfortably in the front. The dashboard in the passenger seat is hard to reach, and the glove box is almost impossible to open. Additionally, I have to suck my head down to see the gauges, which is not very comfortable. The rear storage is also not very spacious. For a big SUV, the layout of this truck is not very practical. Unfortunately, the transmission was not very reliable, and I had to replace it after only 100000 miles. It seems like something breaks on it every other week, which is not very convenient. The Jeep dealership near me also requires a 2 to 3 week appointment to get service done, which can be frustrating. Overall, I have had a negative experience with this truck, and I don't think I will be purchasing another Jeep in the future.
